Primary school places - waiting room for anxious parents !

When does everyone find out where their dc have been allocated a place ?

Very nervous waiting going on here as we have applied to dc1's school for a place for dc2 even though we are out of catchment but because the order of preference rules have changed siblings out of catchment no longer have priority over children within catchment (The school wasn't that popular when we applied for dc1 but has been over subscribed for the last 2 years).

Dreading having to be in 2 places at once on the school run if dc2 doesn't get in.

Off to check the LEA website for date of notification of places but it is deffo March sometime.

Lots of people on here who know more about appeals - maybe start another thread to get more responses.

But my understanding is that you appeal to get into a school you haven't been allocated a place at - giving reasons why your child should attend - rather than appealing against an allocation to a school you don't like. Also you when appealing to get into a school you should not mention anything about it being because you don't want your child to go tho the awful school that's been allocated.

Kizzipoppet - getting child care sorted is very important and I urge all the first time school mums who will need child care to sort it as soon as they find out their allocation. I had a nightmare trying to sort mine as all childminders were full.

were 15th april here....DS is in a good school, there are 6 in our small town, and i only put down 2 choices, one is catholic, one is the other side of town and is very exclusive, choice 1 is DS's school and 2 is the next best. the last 2 are PANTS!!! lol. i hope that DD gets into our choice, but as everyone says, its never guaranteed even with a sibling there.
ive just checked with the web site about admissions, and DS's school is voluntary aided CofE, which meens the govenors have final say about admissions
fingers crossed for everyone xx

mumoverseas · 14/03/2011 17:57

We find out 1st April online. We are 0.4 miles away but there are lots of children where we live so no idea what our chances are

JiltedJohnsJulie · 15/03/2011 20:11

Mumoverseas if you are in the Uk I think the LEA will give you a rough idea if you give them a call.

wizzler · 15/03/2011 21:54

11th April here. DD has a sibling there and are in catchment, but school is massively oversubscribed and there are horror stories of people like us living towards the edge of catchment not getting in, even with sibling... fingers crossed

mumoverseas · 16/03/2011 03:02

Jilted Really? we were just told that everyone found out on 1st April. Might think about phoning, its been a very long wait and I'm not the most patient person Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 10:14

They won't tell you if you've got in, but they should be able to give you an idea of how over or under subscribed it is.

Harimad · 22/03/2011 20:21

27th April here. DH's b'day - already warned him it could be either a great day or a rubbish one!! Hmm

We were renting just a few hundred metres from the school, but landlady decided to sell up after we'd only been there 6 months.Angry Now we're just 50m inside last years catchment area so no idea what our chances are...

Halogen · 23/03/2011 21:30

4th April here. I'm not that nervous, exactly, but I just want to KNOW!

NatzCNL · 31/03/2011 14:54

The notification day is getting closer! Just re-read my letter confirming which choices I have made and noticed it said the offer letters were being sent on the 4th April, dont know why I had it in my head that we would get an email on the 7th because surely the letter would arrive first?
Am getting very twitchy and willing the days to pass quickly. Im not well known for my patience! Grin. Good luck to all

mumoverseas · 31/03/2011 16:00

Tomorrow is the day for us! Apparently we should get an email by 2pm

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 16:12

Waiting to hear today - supposed to get an email after 4pm. Well, it's 4.11pm now and I am getting RSI from refreshing my inbox!

newlark · 31/03/2011 16:20

I'm busy refrehing my inbox too!

newlark · 31/03/2011 16:22

Should have been "refreshing" Blush - I'm waiting to hear whether I have a 15 min walk or a 35 min walk - both good schools so am lucky on that front

coccyx · 31/03/2011 16:25

good luck

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 16:43

Good luck newlark - my main hope is that both my twins get an offer from the same school. Still haven't had my email yet - curse you, Kent County Council! I just want to know now [wails].

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 16:44

PS Thanks coccyx! Can't quite believe how jittery I'm feeling Blush

mumoverseas · 31/03/2011 16:50

bellabelly surely they won't split up twins? Shock oh dear, I suspect I'll be pressing 'refresh' on here all night now hoping that you have good news!

newlark · 31/03/2011 16:55

I'm in the same county bellabelly - apparently last year some heard around 5.30 - others not until much later in the evening so the emails might go out in batches and take a while to find their way through the ether...

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 17:14

Ah, that's helpful - maybe I should just step away from the computer for a few hours then... mumoverseas, tbh I'm not sure whether they would or not. Common sense would say not but the whole sibling priority thing won't apply because they are both applying at the same time, with no older siblings already there iyswim? I think it can and does happen occasionally in some counties, not sure what Kent's policy is. Just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

newlark · 31/03/2011 17:19

Don't step away - I've just looked and spotted that on the kent applications page you can just log in to see the offer!!! I've got my 15 min walk - phew!

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 17:22

Oh brilliant, thanks! I'll have a look right now! And fab that you have got your 15-min walk rather than 35 mins, that's v good news, especially on rainy days Smile.

newlark · 31/03/2011 17:26

you do need to be able to remember your log in (was on original email when you registered) and password - took me a couple of attempts to remember that!

bellabelly · 31/03/2011 17:27

OK, at the top of the application, it says in green writing "offered" - same for each of my DTs. Does that mean I've got my first choice school or does it just mean that an offer has been made for one of my three choices? I am probably being really thick here but I don't understand! THere's no other writing apart from the original application details...
