What the fuck are Theriens?

My youngest DD (10) has taken a liking to jumping like an animal in the garden, drawing foxes, and wants me to buy her a mask and tail for her 11th birthday. She claims she's a "Therien" and feels like an animal. Apparently a few kids her age have gotten into it.

This can be quite common amongst autistic teens and adults, I wasn't surprised at all when Wisteria said she was autistic.

Autistic people often have senses that are more highly tuned than other people's, and struggle to fit in and understand neurotypical people, so subcultures are often where they feel more comfortable.

Most young people who find these cultures may dabble for a while then grow out of it, whereas some with ASD will stay for life and feel a real sense of belonging.
Not too dissimilar to the punk and goth scene when I was younger.

Cosplay and comicon is a huge thing now and this can be part of that.
However it is also, as mentioned by other posters, a fetish area for some adults so I would be monitoring closely her Internet use.

I have adult children who were into this but not any more.

I agree with the wider view. Even before the recent well known cult, there were attention seeking people who were truly desperate to believe they were 'special'. Most started as DC trying things out, normal phases. Rather than getting through it and bocoming socially aware they became stuck on an idea of difference and validation probably helps with this brainwashing.

It's a shame schools cannot support mental health in this area, but the whole, "I am what I say I am" brigade would turn up outside the gate and dox them online.

Evolution is a proven scientific fact. (A scientific 'theory' is a fact). If something disproves it, then the theory would change because it’s science not a belief.

You've just demonstrated you don’t understand evolution. Apes didn’t 'turn into' humans, we share a common ancestor and evolved in different ways.

Hi! Friendly therian talking here! Exclusing this to some people known as fake therians (you can guess from the name) fake being a therian, therianthropy is not a phase and can not be 'grown out of'. We don't choose it and we can't get rid of it, even if you wanted to. Being a therian isn't about acting like an animal as play, though most do quadrobics as a fun activity that makes them feel more animal-like.Therianthropy is when you identify as one, as many therians experience memories from their past lives as animals. On every level except physical, therians identify as their thereotypes and can relate to the animalistic behaviour of them. We do quadrobics on all fours to feel morre connected to our thereotypes, with mine being Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf, Scottish Fold, Cross Fox and Dragon. (Yes, you can have multiple thereotypes.) Being a therian isn't created by the internet, you are born with therianthropy, but seeing videos on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok might encourage you you're not alone in how you're feeling, that there are others just like you, and you don't feel so scared anymore. Therianthropy is also NOT from any TV shows, it is REAL LIFE, not just some thing we made up. It is us. We are it. Just like you could be autistic (which I am) or dyslexic, you are born with it and it's not inspired by anything other than our inner souls. But one thing I ask you, if your child comes out to you saying they're a therian or anything that is considered 'weird' by some of the community-whether they're a furry or quadrobist or in the LGBTQ+ community (which I myself am), please, please, please support them. It means so much to them if you support them, that they don't have to hide anything from you, that they feel safe, that they can be themselves and be free around you instead of trapped by those unspoken rules that make up 'the norm', and even if you try to beat it out of them, it's not going to work. No one hates you. Probably they feel sorry for you, I know I do.

Questions, wolves live around 15 to 20 years, if you get to have been a wolf for 20 years, does it age,does it die, do you become another wolf, what kind of dragon are you, if you "shift" when thinking, doing, feeling, when are you not shifting?

I think the fact that teens and older are wanting to play as animals is a devastating symptom of the fact that there are whole generations of people growing up who haven't played as children. A normal childhood involves pretending you are all manners of magical, mythical creatures and animals over many years and just playing, exploring, role play. Most people have outgrown it by the time they're about 12 ! It suggests to me ita a much needed stage that people are missing out on.

There is something in this. By play, I mean play with other children in real life and tumbling about in nature with other animals. These kids "play" on screen adopting pseudo-identities and it does a number on the neuro atypical ones amongst them.

Does a Mountain wolf know it's a mountain wolf? I suspect wolves are able to distinguish between wolves and not-wolves, between prey that are easy or more difficult to hunt, but without a mirror and language I can't see how the specificity would work.

Personally I would get her off you tube, find out which friend has been encouraging this (and distance them) and get her some new hobbies that will keep her v v busy and do not get her a fucking tail or mask etc.

Minimise any discussion around this at home.

Other kids think it's weird because it is.
