Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

@MrsWhites - the politicians here have openly said they've gradually ramped it up.

Partly in response to gradual worsening and partially because no-one was respecting the rules.

My MIL said the news said the UK is 4 weeks behind Italy.

We had 387 cases on the 26th.
712 on the 27th - two weeks ago.

15113 today.

sideorderofchips · 12/03/2020 17:50

Guernsey is now advising people not to leave or return to the island

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/03/2020 17:50

@janus and if 80% get it, with a 1% death rate (as provided in today's press conference) then that's over 500,000 deaths.

Janus · 12/03/2020 17:51

I feel that if they won’t test any more part of this is to hide how many people are getting it and then how many are dying from it, fudging they figures.

daisypond · 12/03/2020 17:52

What I don’t really understand is why aren’t we testing more? Why don’t we send every family a swab kit, open a lab and get it all sent there and tested quickly?
We do not have the political will/resources to do this. We do not have the political will or resources to do the extreme measures that other countries have taken. Individuals dying do not matter.

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/03/2020 17:53

Yes that's a fair point . I suppose it's also about prioritising resources severe cases, as many are mild . Statistically it's probably getting much more likely that if you develop symptoms at the moment it's more likely to be CV than anything else

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 17:54

How is this going to work I wonder! how can we self isolate in a house? should we self isolate as families?

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 17:55

@Janus true that and also classify some numbers under “mild or severe flu”

QueSera · 12/03/2020 17:56

They said to self-isolate for 7 days - why not 14?
They said we are 4 weeks behind Italy - however it seems to me that we are much closer to just over 2 weeks behind Italy, at which point (26 Feb) Italy had 445 confirmed cases and 12 deaths (we now have 590 cases and 10 deaths):

Sprayitall · 12/03/2020 17:57

I hope the decision changes over the weekend - it’s hard to cope for me

daisypond · 12/03/2020 17:57

Even many with severe symptoms will not get treated anyway, as we do not have the resources. People will be left to die. It’s better to catch the virus now than in a few weeks before we are overwhelmed.

MrsWhites · 12/03/2020 17:58

Crazy figures @VenetoResident, I hope you are keeping safe and well.

Like many others, I also think we are far closer to 2 weeks behind Italy than 4 weeks. Although whether the official figures demonstrate that, I don’t know. We simply aren’t testing enough people I believe!

KundaliniRising · 12/03/2020 18:00

I feel very shocked by this announcement.

To shocked to feel anger at the moment.

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:00

So peak in approx 12 weeks ( mid June). 50% of those who are going to get ill wil get it two weeks either side of the peak- all quite a long way off!

KundaliniRising · 12/03/2020 18:02

@Janus i think that you are right

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 18:03

Not sure what to do either, I don't think it's THE virus but where do we go from here ?

You isolate. Most people wont think they have it but there's no way of knowing and so if you have a cough which isn't either just a one off cough due to something in your throat or a chronic long term condition eg due to smoking then you must self isolate.

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:03

I think that’s why they’re not shutting schools now- because it would need to be for 3-6 months and people will only do it properly for a little while. Although I don’t like it- was really hoping schools would shut next week- it sort of made sense

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 18:06

My children all have a cough but I wouldn’t describe it as persistent, it mostly happens at night

But its not the norm for them so its a self isolate situation

My DS2 has a bit of a cough. Its not the norm for him and he's probably coughing 3-4 times an hour at the moment so not all the time. But its not the norm so its self isolate. (But I took mine out of school anyway today).

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:06

They were also honest and said there’s probably about 10000 people with it if we have 500 confirmed cases. BUT in a way that’s good- it means 9500 aren’t ill enough to see a dr

Gingerninja4 · 12/03/2020 18:07

Am expecting funny looks DS3 has a cough but not virus it is his Asthma just started new meds to try and control it better

I am involved in a school think good 50/60% of children are coughing/sneezing have mild colds .Think could be some empty classes

FuckThisWind · 12/03/2020 18:08

9500 may not be ill enough to see a doctor. But they are transmitting it throughout the community.

OP posts:
HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 18:08

I think schools will start to close anyway. DSis says half their staff are coughing and will need to self isolate

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 12/03/2020 18:10

What a nothing response from gov. So angry. And worried.

Can anyone link me to the graphic someone shared a few days ago please?

It was a chart showing what symptoms present when during the virus.

It had coloured rectangles of differing lengths indicating how long certain symptoms were typically present for, and in what sequence they appeared.

Sorry I can’t remember what it was called!

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:12

@FuckThisWind very true. Latest research suggest that nearly 75% of people in a particular study got it from people who didn’t have any symptoms yet 😳

Ladyellow · 12/03/2020 18:14

I wonder if we’ll see school closures the other side of Easter... although they sort of made out they wouldn’t shut the schools at all.
