Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

DS1 is at Heathrow waiting for his flight home (USA). Im going to be very glad to get him back under my roof. I was having sleepless nights about him getting ill at University with no-one to look after him. He got permission to leave early as we didnt want him to get stuck in the UK if they started to quarantine areas. It looks like that might have been a silly assumption but Im glad he is on his way in any case.

grannycake · 11/03/2020 15:26

Wales jump was two in Carmarthenshire and the others were contacts from the original Neath Port Talbot - BBC Wales this am.

Another one in Newport is showing on the Guardian site today - works in the National Statistics Office

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 15:28

@grannycake - thanks for the clarification. Not sure how I missed that!

Also may have missed this being mentioned earlier, but apparently Matt Hancock will be delivering a statement RE covid-19 to Parliament this evening at 7pm.

Justmum89 · 11/03/2020 15:34

I must say I did feel slightly reassured watching the budget........
All MP's are humans and surely they arent that concerned packing themselves in like that after the health minister has been diagnosed? I wonder what the average age is aswell?
Perhaps I'm being a bit too optimistic today 🙃

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 15:42

@NatoPMT pray tell me what you said please. about 90% certain we will be doing the same next week. I'm presuming it's a take the consequences pull out of school kind of thing

Readyme · 11/03/2020 15:43

@Sprayitall from this point the most important thing I can do to prep my household is to limit who enters it.
I have one family member coming to visit this week, she is scrupulous about hygiene and taking this threat seriously otherwise I would cancel, after that it's doors closed to all other than those that live here.

After that the 'red zone' in our house is the front door keeping that clean will be a daily priority.
Once inside shoes and coats are kept away in closet by front door.
Change clothes once home and wash hands.

For now I plan to stick to usual cleaning schedule I do tend to clean kitchen and bathroom daily.
Otherwise it's business as usual once inside I want us to be able to relax and not see our home as dangerous.

AlohaMolly · 11/03/2020 15:44

Thank you rhi!

justmum the budget made me feel worse Sad there’s an awful lot of measures they’re putting in place given the outward attitude of nothing to see here from the government, I thought.

Justmum89 · 11/03/2020 15:49

@AlohaMolly I agree there is a lot of measures being put in place but surely if they were that worried they wouldn't have gone ahead and all packed into that space?

I think I'm just trying really hard to find small things to make it all seem better in my head at the moment. We have scary times ahead I'm sure 😢

Readyme · 11/03/2020 15:49

@rhij86 I would pay of the debt this could run for a while better to not have it hanging over you if money becomes difficult in the future.
I say that as someone that was crippled by the 08 crash hence why we are now preppers.

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 15:51

@readyme yes thanks that makes sense, we don't have a lot of disposable income but have enough to see us through until pay day easily enough in terms of food etc.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 15:56

@rhij86 that’s a nice routine. I have started to clean window and door handles more often too. Also food prep surfaces, dd’s little table etc. I also found it tricky to spray the underneath surface the boxes that arrive. I am wondering how often do we need to change the sheets too? My sofa covers are washable so they will be chucked into the machine more often say once a week than once in ten days. Also I am finding it very difficult to cope if someone helps themselves and eats from the tiny little shelf that I have prepped 😂

Regarding finances, are you then eligible to apply for a new card? If so I will do that.

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 15:58

@sprayitall no, I wouldn't be able to get a new card, credit rating is in the toilet Blush - I'm trying (and managing, very slowly) to claw my way out of debt.

Coughsyrupsucks · 11/03/2020 15:59

Where is everyone at with pulling the kids from school? DD is autistic and is terrified she’s going to bring it home with her. So for her mental health alone it’s tempting. My gut is saying this Friday but her attendance has been awful this term already.

JaneBond0007 · 11/03/2020 16:00

When are people going to stock up on fresh stuff if we are heading for a lockdown? If the announcement tonight says lockdown from Sunday if the rumours that are circulating are right when is best to stock up ok fresh fruit and veg, milk, eggs, cheese, butter, bread etc to go in the fridge.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 16:00

@Readyme I agree. I am not letting anyone in anyways. But dd coming home from school or dh entering home after work is what I’m worrying the most. Dd can’t wash her hair daily because she gets this blocked nose and sinuses so I am making her wash her hands go straight to bath and may be wipe her head down with dettol Wipes?or is it ott

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 16:03

@rhij86 I understand. Times are difficult isn’t it. If you have a mortgage may be try remortgaging now and get some money earlier to tidy it off? The reduced interest of Bank of England that was announced might help people on variable mortgages I believe.

Coughsyrupsucks · 11/03/2020 16:05

@janebond0007 go now before it gets too busy, you don’t want to be in crowds. You can freeze butter and cheese. Eggs last forever in the fridge. And if you buy milk like Cravendale it’s got a date of early April on it.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 16:06

@JaneBond0007 I have my usual grocery delivery scheduled for Thursday this time. But a lock down is unlikely - even if there is a lockdown now I think the ship has sailed with infection peaking already and there will be no use anyway

Posharmchairs · 11/03/2020 16:07

@Sprayitall can your dd have her hair in a French plait? It might help it from resting on mucky surfaces, but the wiping with dettol wipes feels a bit extreme to me.., happy to be told otherwise.

Eggs are freezing really well in silicone ice cube trays.

Bought an extra pack of butter today and hope to do another pack of butter, cheese, uht mile and some more cooking oil soon.

I’ve never gone as far as bottled water, what are thoughts on bottled water with regards to cv19?

Justmum89 · 11/03/2020 16:11

Have just had an E-Mail from DS Secondary school much to the tune of plans for students education in the event of school closures. We are in a very large county with 1 confirmed case (that we currently know of)

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 16:12

@posh Lol true it feels a bit ott even to me.. but I was thinking how else we can keep her hair clean? I’m really bad at plaiting my dd and she never shows her hair either so that’s not going to work

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 16:13

@NatoPMT You are a star..how did you scare the school into agreeing .. educate me on that please

YoursTunbridgeWells · 11/03/2020 16:14

Shop report - Morrisons - lots of bog roll - being rationed to 2 per customer. Tissues - some.
Pasta - 4 packs left!
Tins - variable. But some of everything to be had.
Soap - a few liquid soaps but mostly only hand soap.

Handgel - None and expecting none.

Home Bargains - no bog roll, no pasta, no rice, paractemol and calpol. Very few toiltries

16943389ao · 11/03/2020 16:17

@JaneBond0007 what rumours have you heard re lockdown? Hoping something will be announced soon? It’s business as usual at my husbands work and I’m just trying to work out what to do re my reception aged child. Really want to pull her out but am worried about loosing her place or being seen to be over reacting.

MoonlightMistletoe · 11/03/2020 16:17

@Sprayitall could you get some of this spray, it's tea tree and can be used as a head lice repellant , not saying it will kill Covid-19 but might do something even if it's for peace of mind. I'd spray it on and put hair up in a neat bun.
