Beginner here - does this sound like a reasonable stockpile?

I've always liked to have a fair bit extra in, but thanks to MN I decided to get really organised and ensure I'm covered for (hopefully) every eventuality. It's actually really helped my anxiety as I feel a bit more in control.

Just wondered if anyone could take a look and see if this sounds reasonable prep wise, basically just got extra of what we normally eat in (for three of us) - feel like I'm missing obvious things!

Cupboard Stuff
Red/Green Pesto: 10 jars
Beans/Spaghetti hoops: 10 tins
Pasta Sauce: 10 jars
Curry Paste: 5 jars
Veg - peas/new potatoes/carrots/spinach - 5 tins each
Black Beans - 5 cans
Butter Beans - 5 cans
Broad Beans - 5 cans
Mixed Beans - 5 cans
Kidney Beans - 4 cans
Ravioli - 5 cans
Soups - mixed - 10 cans
Rice - 1kg + a selection of microwavable packs
Couscous - mixed selection of individual packs
Lentils - 1kg
Quinoa - 500g
Pasta - 1kg
Spaghetti - five packs
Passata - 8 cartons
Chopped Tomatoes - 10 cans
Tomato Puree - 3 tubes
Tuna - 10 cans
Peas - 4 cans
Corned beef - 2 cans
Sardines in sauce - 5 packs
Mackerel - 5 packs
Stewing steak - 3 tins
Jumbo Oats
Weetabix
Muesli
2 litre bottles water - 5
2kg coffee beans
Tea bags - mix
Hot Chocolate - big tub of powdered
Long life milk (currently 4 cartons will probably pick up more)
Tortillas - 2 packs
Mix of herbs and marinades/rubs
Slow cooker sauce packs
Mixed nuts
Nut Butters/Nutella/Marmite/Marmalade and Honey

Frozen
Avocado
Onions
Peppers (mixed)
Cabbage
Spinach
Herbs
Peas/sweetcorn
Carrots
Broc + cauli
Meat - assorted
Fish fillets
Fish Fingers [ who doesn't love a fish finger sandwich?!]
ice cream
Bread
Just Rol Pastry - two packs

Household
Candles (two bags tealights plus various)
Solar lamp + charger
three 6 litre collapsable water containers [empty but ready to go]
Torches x 2
Toilet Rolls (50)
Mouthwash & toothpaste [bulk packs of each]
Batteries
Full first aid kit including bandages, plasters, wound wipes, antiseptic cream, cold + flu tablets and sachets, digestion aids and medicines, paracetamol and ibuprofen, migraine tablets, allergy tablets

Plan to get
Camping stove/hob [we have regular power outages - not sure they'd be ideal for inside though?]
Life straws x 3
Couple more torches
Baby wipes
Soap
Laundry Powder
Energy Bars [less about prepping, more about DH loving them for walking holidays but handy none the less]

Now I've written it all down, I probably sound a bit OTT? But the snow last year really made me see I needed more in, especially if we get hit with a power cut around the same time [I know I can't 100% rely on my freezer stores but I like to have it stocked incase we get ill/can't get out for a few days or i'm too lazy to think about what to eat!]
Do you think I've missed anything obvious?

@Ariclock - I'm not the op but I would heartily endorse the "little and when you can afford it" approach.
Focus on what you actually enjoy eating.

JustLikeBefore · 07/08/2018 19:37

Ariclock As bellinisurge little and when you can.

If every time you pop to a shop for lunch/ bottle of water/bread, if you can afford it, pick up one thing to go in the stock pile, like a tin, packet of cheap paracetamol/Ibuprofen, pasta. it's amazing how much adds up, especially as sometimes we don't realise how often we 'just nip to the shops'

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 19:41

Ariclock

Also not the OP but mine has been going for some time now. I have slowly been adding a few items a week (or even just one a week during lean times) for a while.

That said my friend only started prepping at the start of the year (because her job isn’t stable thanks to Brexit) and has a hearty stock after dedicating £20-25 per month.

Ariclock · 07/08/2018 20:01

Great advice, thanks all Smile

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 20:07

You see "yammering on" is rude. There was no yammering. Have a laugh, have a dig, tell me I'm a liar whatever but own it.

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 20:09

There is a connection. I have no wish to stockpile items of food specifically for my family how horrible. We are all human.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 20:16

@petrolpump28 - not really interested in your situation if you are on here to have a go at everyone and, frankly, embellish half stories.

KimCheesePickle · 07/08/2018 20:19

The thing is Petrol, if you stockpile food for your own family in case of national crisis, it means you're not reliant on government/army support services, and support for those in actual need is not spread around so thinly. By being self reliant in such situations (to the degree that you can afford to and are physically able) you are helping others more.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 20:22

@petrolpump28 -please, by all means, go onto the AMA I started a while ago about being a prepper. Coming on here carping on with your misunderstanding is not much use to you or anyone.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 20:28

What @KimCheesePickle said

RedStef1983 · 07/08/2018 20:33

I'm not really into stockpiling but having looked at the list the thing that stands out most is how little water you have. Forget the power, if the water went out in an and extreme, end of the world type scenario, 10 litres won't get you far.

But at least you have pesto and avocado Wink

RedStef1983 · 07/08/2018 20:37

Joking aside however, I am now intrigued by having a small back up.

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 20:43

You see "yammering on" is rude. There was no yammering. Have a laugh, have a dig, tell me I'm a liar whatever but own it.

But you are “yammering on”, you’re bleating utter nonsense that makes no sense.

I have no wish to stockpile items of food specifically for my family how horrible. We are all human.
Can I come over to your house for supper one evening when I haven’t made it to the supermarket? I’ll bring my 6 DC with me.

JumblieGirl · 07/08/2018 21:05

By stockpiling now, no one else is being deprived of the opportunity to buy food or goods. It’s only immoral IMO if an individual grabs more than they need of a finite resource, preventing others from having access. Which isn’t the case for preppers.
As Kim pointed out, your family will be able to access support more easily if all of us are not in the same mob, clambering for the same limited resources. You can rely on your family being carried by others, but some of us prefer a more proactive and independent attitude.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 21:11

@RedStef1983 - the op has Life Straws. Which means they can collect water from wherever and use them as a filter to drink.

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 21:25

Yes come welcome.

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 21:27

Only immoral if an individual grabs..... Omg I seriously cannot believe this nonsense.

Do you have weapons and the confederate flag

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 21:30

@petrolpump28 - is it helpful to you to get into a sniping session with people who don't live their lives the way you do.
If you don't like dogs, perhaps you could get into an argument with someone in The Doghouse topic. If you don't like fashion etc you could have a big barney with someone on Style and Beauty.
Or just have some fun on AIBU?
What are you trying to achieve?

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 21:30

And no we don't have weapons and a confederate flag. Grow the fuck up.

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 21:33

“Bleating” = inane chatter. I’d say that’s pretty accurate. “Fucking nasty woman” is delightful misogyny.

Sorry to the OP re your thread being derailed by such nonsense.

JustLikeBefore · 07/08/2018 21:33

--------->""

yeaaaaahhh bleating and yammering

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 21:35

"Nasty woman" is a criticism worn as a badge of pride by Samantha Bee. In good company if you are one.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/08/2018 21:46

Oh well done, you’ve shown yourself as the nasty piece of work you are petrol pump please find somewhere else to post your drivel. I’ve reported your posts which are entirely useless and offensive.
