Beginner here - does this sound like a reasonable stockpile?

I've always liked to have a fair bit extra in, but thanks to MN I decided to get really organised and ensure I'm covered for (hopefully) every eventuality. It's actually really helped my anxiety as I feel a bit more in control.

Just wondered if anyone could take a look and see if this sounds reasonable prep wise, basically just got extra of what we normally eat in (for three of us) - feel like I'm missing obvious things!

Cupboard Stuff
Red/Green Pesto: 10 jars
Beans/Spaghetti hoops: 10 tins
Pasta Sauce: 10 jars
Curry Paste: 5 jars
Veg - peas/new potatoes/carrots/spinach - 5 tins each
Black Beans - 5 cans
Butter Beans - 5 cans
Broad Beans - 5 cans
Mixed Beans - 5 cans
Kidney Beans - 4 cans
Ravioli - 5 cans
Soups - mixed - 10 cans
Rice - 1kg + a selection of microwavable packs
Couscous - mixed selection of individual packs
Lentils - 1kg
Quinoa - 500g
Pasta - 1kg
Spaghetti - five packs
Passata - 8 cartons
Chopped Tomatoes - 10 cans
Tomato Puree - 3 tubes
Tuna - 10 cans
Peas - 4 cans
Corned beef - 2 cans
Sardines in sauce - 5 packs
Mackerel - 5 packs
Stewing steak - 3 tins
Jumbo Oats
Weetabix
Muesli
2 litre bottles water - 5
2kg coffee beans
Tea bags - mix
Hot Chocolate - big tub of powdered
Long life milk (currently 4 cartons will probably pick up more)
Tortillas - 2 packs
Mix of herbs and marinades/rubs
Slow cooker sauce packs
Mixed nuts
Nut Butters/Nutella/Marmite/Marmalade and Honey

Frozen
Avocado
Onions
Peppers (mixed)
Cabbage
Spinach
Herbs
Peas/sweetcorn
Carrots
Broc + cauli
Meat - assorted
Fish fillets
Fish Fingers [ who doesn't love a fish finger sandwich?!]
ice cream
Bread
Just Rol Pastry - two packs

Household
Candles (two bags tealights plus various)
Solar lamp + charger
three 6 litre collapsable water containers [empty but ready to go]
Torches x 2
Toilet Rolls (50)
Mouthwash & toothpaste [bulk packs of each]
Batteries
Full first aid kit including bandages, plasters, wound wipes, antiseptic cream, cold + flu tablets and sachets, digestion aids and medicines, paracetamol and ibuprofen, migraine tablets, allergy tablets

Plan to get
Camping stove/hob [we have regular power outages - not sure they'd be ideal for inside though?]
Life straws x 3
Couple more torches
Baby wipes
Soap
Laundry Powder
Energy Bars [less about prepping, more about DH loving them for walking holidays but handy none the less]

Now I've written it all down, I probably sound a bit OTT? But the snow last year really made me see I needed more in, especially if we get hit with a power cut around the same time [I know I can't 100% rely on my freezer stores but I like to have it stocked incase we get ill/can't get out for a few days or i'm too lazy to think about what to eat!]
Do you think I've missed anything obvious?

@confusedmummy76 I've explained why in a previous post

thanks @bellinisurge will check that out

Oil and ghee.

If the going ever gets really tough, you need to be able to eat stuff out a packet/tin with a fork. Tin or packet curry and dhal are always forgiving.

A bottle of iodine, (doubt Brexit will led to a total breakdown of the health system) preventing infection and therefor the need for anti-biotics can be life saving (at any time).

A kelly kettle boils water very quickly on little fuel. We have one at the allotment.

Local knowledge of your local spring or well.

PestymcPestFace · 31/07/2018 16:12

A magnesium fire starter.

AdaColeman · 31/07/2018 16:19

Wine! Wine Wine

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 16:44

Wine or your relaxer treat of choice is actually a good call @AdaColeman . Morale boosting stuff - and everyone has their personal fave - is a good idea. Children as well as adults.

gamerchick · 31/07/2018 16:53

One of these? www.amazon.co.uk/Inverter-Certified-ERAYAK-Converter-Outlets/dp/B01N955006/ref=zg_bs_2481728031_8?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21&refRID=AFWNNT6MTM8CHZ4SE8DC

Just buy a car battery to go with it and you can keep your freezer running when the powers off. They come in handy for camping even.

TrippingTheVelvet · 31/07/2018 16:55

Can I ask a genuine question? What happens in say 2 years time if it's not used and is now out of date? Will you bin it and just start over?

RhythmStix · 31/07/2018 16:58

If only people could be this generous at their local foodbanks, or collecting for the harvest festival boxes. Hmm

PestymcPestFace · 31/07/2018 16:59

Tripping you rotate it, just like a shop does with stock. Hence it being daft to stockpile spam if nobody eats it. Artichoke hearts are a stockpile item here Grin

PestymcPestFace · 31/07/2018 17:00

Rhythm what makes you think preppers are mean and don't do these things?

lettuceWrap · 31/07/2018 17:02

You might want to think about sources of fat to add in meals- for emergency supplies you want lots of calories for your cash. For example, coconut oil, Gee or other shelf stable fats can be added to any dish to bump up the calories, stir-fry rice in it etc.
Buy tuna in oil rather than in water, because that’s more calories/nutrients for the same cost (and the same storage space). Normally you’d drain all the oil away but in an emergency situation, it’s valuable stuff!
Chocolate with nuts is a good mix of fat, protein and carbs- and it’s also chocolate Grin so it’s an essential for any emergency cupboard...

Caribbeanyesplease · 31/07/2018 17:03

Don't forget chocolate and sweets for energy.

If you want the kind of energy that spikes for all of 15 minutes and then nose dives!

Caribbeanyesplease · 31/07/2018 17:04

RhythmStix

Not sure where you live, but everywhere I have lived in UK - food banks and harvest time is overflowing with donations

NerrSnerr · 31/07/2018 17:05

I suppose prepping for illness makes sense if you don't know anyone locally who can drop you round a few bits from the Spar. The rest just seems over the top.

I wonder how many people are feeling unnecessarily anxious because of all these prepping threads on here?

I'm 'pro remain' but I'm not pro scare mongering which is what this latest prepping push is.

RhythmStix · 31/07/2018 17:06

Well there is never much at my local foodbank. Maybe there is at yours Pesty. Are preppers known for their generosity?

Snog · 31/07/2018 17:07

Zombie apocalypse?

Caribbeanyesplease · 31/07/2018 17:08

RhythmStix

Have you volunteered at one?

RhythmStix · 31/07/2018 17:09

Indeed I have Caribbean. I do a lot for the homeless round my way. I'm not a prepper though. So I guess I have the time...

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 17:12

@NerrSnerr - this is the Prepper topic. It's been going for ages. Brexit is just another thing like, eg, bad snow to consider. The topic wasn't set up be Remoaners or whatever you want to call them. It's a way of thinking that some people have. There are shades of opinion within the idea. Shock horror!
I've done an AMA if you want to ask me questions about why I do it. Set it up a couple of weeks ago. Feel free to AMA on it.
If anyone doesn't see Brexit as a risk, they don't have to prep for it. I, for example, don't see flooding as a risk to me so I don't really plan for it.

Caribbeanyesplease · 31/07/2018 17:12

RhythmStix

If you prepped you might then be able to assist some homeless people in the event of need then!

mmmgoats · 31/07/2018 17:14

@rhythm I donate to foodbanks regularly. None of these foods will go to waste, in fact if I'm all stocked up and can save a bit of money in the long term it means more cash is spare to help others when I can.

Me ensuring I'm stocked up incase of illness/shortage etc and using up the food/rotating it as I go has nothing to do with my donations.

Perhaps you should think about what will happen if people don't prep for these things - the first thing that will suffer is donations to food banks etc as nobody will have anything to spare, they'll be trying to look after their own families.

OP posts:
RhythmStix · 31/07/2018 17:14

I already do Caribbean - you'd have realised that if you had read my reply to your question.

I fail to see the actual point of 'prepping'. Truly.

mmmgoats · 31/07/2018 17:16

@nerrsnerr my intention wasn't to scaremonger. This isn't particularly because of Brexit, as I've mentioned in other posts, I like to be prepared as I've been caught short before because of illness/power outage and weather.
That's the reason I'm posting in Prepping not Brexit.

OP posts:
Caribbeanyesplease · 31/07/2018 17:16

you have misunderstood me

You have said you’re not a prepper

My, somewhat facetious, response was that perhaps you may not be able to provide for the homeless if the shit ever hits the fan because you ate not a prepper!

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 17:16

@RhythmStix - if you don't see the point of prepping, that's obviously fine. People who don't like cats don't bother with The Litter Tray topic.
Prepping isn't all about Brexit. Or Zombies. Or whatever.
