Beginner here - does this sound like a reasonable stockpile?

I've always liked to have a fair bit extra in, but thanks to MN I decided to get really organised and ensure I'm covered for (hopefully) every eventuality. It's actually really helped my anxiety as I feel a bit more in control.

Just wondered if anyone could take a look and see if this sounds reasonable prep wise, basically just got extra of what we normally eat in (for three of us) - feel like I'm missing obvious things!

Cupboard Stuff
Red/Green Pesto: 10 jars
Beans/Spaghetti hoops: 10 tins
Pasta Sauce: 10 jars
Curry Paste: 5 jars
Veg - peas/new potatoes/carrots/spinach - 5 tins each
Black Beans - 5 cans
Butter Beans - 5 cans
Broad Beans - 5 cans
Mixed Beans - 5 cans
Kidney Beans - 4 cans
Ravioli - 5 cans
Soups - mixed - 10 cans
Rice - 1kg + a selection of microwavable packs
Couscous - mixed selection of individual packs
Lentils - 1kg
Quinoa - 500g
Pasta - 1kg
Spaghetti - five packs
Passata - 8 cartons
Chopped Tomatoes - 10 cans
Tomato Puree - 3 tubes
Tuna - 10 cans
Peas - 4 cans
Corned beef - 2 cans
Sardines in sauce - 5 packs
Mackerel - 5 packs
Stewing steak - 3 tins
Jumbo Oats
Weetabix
Muesli
2 litre bottles water - 5
2kg coffee beans
Tea bags - mix
Hot Chocolate - big tub of powdered
Long life milk (currently 4 cartons will probably pick up more)
Tortillas - 2 packs
Mix of herbs and marinades/rubs
Slow cooker sauce packs
Mixed nuts
Nut Butters/Nutella/Marmite/Marmalade and Honey

Frozen
Avocado
Onions
Peppers (mixed)
Cabbage
Spinach
Herbs
Peas/sweetcorn
Carrots
Broc + cauli
Meat - assorted
Fish fillets
Fish Fingers [ who doesn't love a fish finger sandwich?!]
ice cream
Bread
Just Rol Pastry - two packs

Household
Candles (two bags tealights plus various)
Solar lamp + charger
three 6 litre collapsable water containers [empty but ready to go]
Torches x 2
Toilet Rolls (50)
Mouthwash & toothpaste [bulk packs of each]
Batteries
Full first aid kit including bandages, plasters, wound wipes, antiseptic cream, cold + flu tablets and sachets, digestion aids and medicines, paracetamol and ibuprofen, migraine tablets, allergy tablets

Plan to get
Camping stove/hob [we have regular power outages - not sure they'd be ideal for inside though?]
Life straws x 3
Couple more torches
Baby wipes
Soap
Laundry Powder
Energy Bars [less about prepping, more about DH loving them for walking holidays but handy none the less]

Now I've written it all down, I probably sound a bit OTT? But the snow last year really made me see I needed more in, especially if we get hit with a power cut around the same time [I know I can't 100% rely on my freezer stores but I like to have it stocked incase we get ill/can't get out for a few days or i'm too lazy to think about what to eat!]
Do you think I've missed anything obvious?

I don't get how we moved from people being greedy and selfish by not sharing their own personal food in their cupboards at home with strangers who knock on the door to someone choosing to buy an overpriced banana in a cafe Confused

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 14:53

But someone over charging you for a banana has got nothing to do with people who have made provisions, specifically for their family, not wanting to dish it out for free willy nilly to strangers.

JustLikeBefore · 07/08/2018 15:13

So no broken down car, not in the middle of nowhere, but a local place with a cafe, food in the car, money for food from cafe (and or shop if one) money for a B&B and B&B available.

Just WTAF was your point of coming to a preppers board posting on a prepper's thread called "beginner here"?! Really?

If you were that bothered by it, why didn't you start a "AIBU to think this cafe owner was taking the piss"

Because it really has fuck all to do with prepping or preppers. Or the person who started a thread for advice on her store, from other like minded people.

FFS

and anyone else who comes on and say's why/I don't get it/ etc
RTFT (READ THE FUCKING THREAD)
then fuck off back to AIBU

twats

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 15:42

the connection is about sharing/not sharing.
in the event of a catastrophe.

The Blitz spirit.

JustLikeBefore · 07/08/2018 15:47

its still not relevent to this preppers thread.

Start your own thread FFS and don't make about some bullshit anecdote that never happened.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/08/2018 15:50

Would you take food from your hungry children and share it with a stranger, in a catastrophe?

HEY EVERYBODY, HEAD ON OVER TO PETROLPUMP’S GAFF!! SHES GOT BLITZ SPIRIT!

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 15:51

Not even close to a challenging situation @petrolpump28 . Just a negative tripadvisor review.

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 16:06

So have you learnt from you dire situation and prepared your home for an awful situation? Our are you going to rely on the hard work of others?

JumblieGirl · 07/08/2018 16:07

But has everyone missed the helpful, prepared MIL in the saga, who prepped sandwiches? Well done that woman, next time, include a banana.

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 16:10

I love that being overcharged for a banana in a storm is a catastrophe.

Banana in a tea cup is new saying.

needyourlovingtouch · 07/08/2018 17:01

Prepping for what exactly?

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 17:05

Here we go again ....

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 17:21

Prepping for what exactly?

The apocalypse.
Obviously.

needyourlovingtouch · 07/08/2018 17:22

Is preppers topic to do with Brexit or just general emergency?

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 17:24

Gosh there are some incredibly rude and angry people on here.

petrolpump28 · 07/08/2018 17:25

sorry does prep mean......make as in prep sandwiches
prep as in horde stuff
prep as in an old coat in a car?

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 17:26

@needyourlovingtouch - general emergency. Depends on your situation. Not just Brexit. This topic has been here for ages.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 17:29

@petrolpump28 -it means preparedness. Like for a long journey with kids where you pack food they will eat and expect it to be difficult to get a bargain at the only cafe for milesGrin. Or real emergencies like being snowed in or losing your job etc

JumblieGirl · 07/08/2018 17:29

The topic has been going way longer than Brexit threads, and prepping isn’t just for emergencies. It’s more the idea of being prepared for whatever comes your way so that if there is a problem, from a power cut to a serious snowfall, to cock up in the food supply to a Zombie Apocalypse you are as prepared as possible.
Because so many MNetters found the idea weird, or hysterically funny, scary or Triggering, we got our own little section so we can talk about things with like-minded people. But there are still the lost and vague and trollolling who come and ask WTF we are doing.
Taking about stashing stuff just in case.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 17:34

Seems like we are spending a lot of time on Prepper threads explaining what prepping is or addressing people taking the piss. Like being on The Litter Tray topic and having to deal with posters popping on to say cats are rubbish.

JustLikeBefore · 07/08/2018 17:56

just RTFT lazy fuckwits.

all questions have been answered many times over.

oh and don't forget to cancel the cheque.

bellinisurge · 07/08/2018 18:00

@petrolpump28 and @needyourlovingtouch - I did an AMA a few weeks ago and rebooted it recently. Find it on AMA and, by all means, ask me anything. This topic is generally used by people who have got over the "idea" and have questions for each other.
There are plenty of other topics on MN for you to look at.

needyourlovingtouch · 07/08/2018 18:02

Thanks @bellinisurge I think it's a good idea. Have never seen the topic in mumsnet before so was curious. Thank you for answering

IAmInsignificunt · 07/08/2018 19:00

Gosh there are some incredibly rude and angry people on here.

Resisting the urge to say “I know you are but what are we”.

Judging by your replies, this thread and sub forum clearly aren’t for you or you’re on a wind up @petrolpump28.
Many people on this thread have explained what it is for, there are many threads explaining what it is for but you just keep yammering on about paying for a banana in a cafe besmirching the historical notion of “blitz spirit”.

Ariclock · 07/08/2018 19:14

Hi op, thanks for posting your list of items. I'm pretty new to prepping and have a small larder so have the space to stash extra food. If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to build up your supplies? I'll have to buy a little extra each week rather than one massive bulk buy.
