I'm giving birth to a very poorly 29 weeker tomorrow, any advice?

I won't go into too much detail as it can be a little quiet on here and I don't want to pour my heart out to no replies Blush

Il be exactly 29 weeks tomorrow, the baby is very poorly and it's been made clear her chances arnt great if they deliver her. But we also don't have any options to help her if we leave her in utero, so she's clearly going to get more sick and die anyway. The doctors arnt giving an opinion of what they think is best so it's all been left down to us, although they said if I was past 32 weeks they'd deliver. So we feel we need to deliver as surly even a tiny tiny chance is better than no chance. Our last baby was stillborn to the same condition (we were told these things don't happen twice, we had absolutely no idea, and nither did the doctors, that it could reoccur) but we didn't find out until hours before she died last time so we couldn't do anything, this time we've been trying for over 4 weeks and have exhausted all options other than delivery.

Don't no what advice I'm looking for, has anyone else had a baby against the odds and how did it go? I think with the doctors not being able to offer an opinion I want to feel like I'm not making a selfish or wrong decision somehow Confused

i have just seen this. I remember you from the conception boards. congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Flowers I hope she keeps on fighting like this and is home with you in no time.

Frazzled2207 · 09/04/2017 20:06

That's such positive news to hear. Pleased you're both doing so well!

LuchiMangsho · 09/04/2017 20:16

High flow is FAB. If you are wondering why I am gushing is because artificial ventilation has all kinds of other side effects. And if you can get on to oxygen quickly, which she has, then other things like her lungs and her eyes should hopefully, fingers crossed be fine.
Ask if you can pump next to her btw. I have a lot of milk and pumped a LOT (and I am currently breastfeeding the 26 weeker) but whatever you manage to produce is great. Don't get down on yourself. I have a NICU diary and even though we were discharged only 3 weeks ago, I read that and I am amazed at how far he has come. It's about taking one day at a time, so so trite but so true in the NICU. And don't be floored by setbacks- they are common. We had a couple of infection scares and while the doctors were all 'ah we'll see for 36 hours etc', I found the sudden bad news after a prolonged spell of upbeat news really hard to take. So hang in there!

SolomanDaisy · 09/04/2017 20:22

Fab that she's doing so well!

I only expressed three or four times a day in NICU and it was plenty. DD is fully breastfed now.

Hi Alb I have been lurking and checking for updates, and am so pleased to read your update. What weight was your DD? I gave birth to DS at 32 weeks, at 3lb 10, and he spent 8 weeks in SCBU. He is now 6ft tall and about to turn 18! They are fighters - your LO has strenght and a will to live - I wish you and your family all the very best. Does she have a name yet?

Footle · 10/04/2017 07:35

XxBecxX · 19/04/2017 18:00

How are you getting on Alb xx

Alb1 · 20/04/2017 16:02

Hello, we are doing well! She's now 17 days old, we have been transferred back to our local hospital because the cardiac team were happy she's stable on her medication (shel see them as an out patient here though). Still on high flow but just a small amount, tolerating feeds really well, even routing when hungry now! Not gaining weight yet so they are substituting a little with formula to help her along, but she's so active and wriggly I think she slows her own weight gain down. She's doing great though Smile
