New thread - happy Monday!

Just incase you are wondering this is a thread for premmie mums who feel like they have missed out on the NCT classes experience and would like to chat.

I have missed out twice as has had two premies!
One of which seems to be wide awake at 4am - I have just fallen over a toy trying to get to her and am now cuddling her praying she'll drop off fast!
How's everyone?

Mmama - you have an ice hockey fitness test! You used to jump three metres??? You have six children!!! Omg I feel inadequate - ha ha.
What happens in an ice hockey fitness test?
Mama which coast did you go to and what have you done to yourself to be on crutches?
Went for a quick run tonight and my body is now aching, should have gone to bed earlier but we got hooked into tje new episodes of 24 and that was that! Work tomorrow.
Glad Halo is doing well, on another course of antibiotics here for ENT issues again.
Have a good day tomorrow ladies xxxx

Wow Mmama that's amazing! You're amazing! Smile How's Halo today?
Val, I had my youngest ds at 24 weeks I had to have a emergency hysterectomy following my emergency c section and have been left partially paralysed. I am improving but slowly and need crutches or a wheelchair when out and about. But it's all good, considering the crappy odds we were given a week before I had him - we were both given less than 20% chance of survival. Plus my eldest has decorated my crutches so their all sparkly Grin!

Mama1980 · 07/05/2014 08:11

Posted too soon, oops, I was in Southend. I hope your little one is doing better soon. X

MultipleMama · 07/05/2014 09:15

God, mama that must have been a awful situation however I am so glad you and your little one are doing well! :)

Val, I hope the antibiotics kick in soon and your little one gets better quickly!

For the test they basically test all levels of my fitness so; body size i.e height & weight, body composition i.e body fat & muscle mass, Stength and power i.e push up & vertical/horitzonal jumping exercises, flexibility i.e loads of weird yoga exercises, agility i.e hand eye cordination test & quick direction changing, aerobic fitness i.e shuttle run & Vo2 bike (I dread this test!), anaerobic power i.e windgate & yoyo. That's just to name a few! And then I'll be doing practices on Ice.

Valdeeves · 08/05/2014 00:35

Are you a pro Mmama?
Mama, I have heard of some paralysis happening from a C section. Will you gain more movement as time goes on?
We nearly had our DS at 23 (on holiday - it wasn't great) but some intense drugs stopped it happening.
Went to Ballet tonight my body is aching - why have I stayed up so late again? I blame Greys Anatomy - had to watch it!

Valdeeves · 08/05/2014 00:36

What is Windgate and Yo Yo? Sounds like CBeebies!!
Btw - tried to cook a curry tonight and I wrecked it - most disgusting tea ever.

MultipleMama · 08/05/2014 06:32

Not a pro but I used to play pee wee hockey in Canada and then international hockey until I was 20 then stopped as I was PG with dc2. I haven't played a game in 3 n a half years though I do still train when I'm not heavily pregnant haha

This explains it better wingate & yoyo

I can only cook one type of curry, I ruin everything else! Haha.

Mama1980 · 08/05/2014 07:25

Morning all,
Mmama that wingate test sounds very difficult. One of my sister in laws plays hockey, I'm always impressed by the levels of fitness involved.
How's Halo this morning? I hope you all had a good night.
Val, how's your little one, I hope the anti biotics are working.
Chances are at this point I probably won't improve much, they had to do a lot of damage to save me and my hips had had surgery on them even prior to the birth of my youngest ds. But the more I move the stronger I become, my muscle tone improves so there's always a chance.
I'm a greys fan too Smile which episode are you up to?

MultipleMama · 08/05/2014 18:12

The Vo2 is so much worse than the wingate test. At least to me. Hockey is a very physical sport and a lot of what goes on in training is hidden. My oldest ds plays hockey - has been playing since he was 2. We hope when he's a little older we can get him on a team. He lives and breathes hockey and he's only 5!

Halo is doing well, he's now off CPAP and on to low-flow (thank god!) and has regained his swallowing reflex but is still fed by tube. He's off all medication including fluids but excluding his original meds for his conditions. He has no movement in his left arm, his head is still a little wobbly and he has little movement in his left leg. Tomorrow he will be moved to HDU for monitoring and loads of scans and hopefully by next week he will be on the Children's ward or home! :)

Currently at the hospital having Kangeroo care with my lovely twins :)

Mama, glad to hear you're getting stronger :)

Val how's your LO?

Valdeeves · 08/05/2014 23:50

She's ok thanks for asking - I just found out that my DS best friend has chicken pox so here we go with the next thing!
Any tips on how to make it easier to cope with?

OP posts:
Valdeeves · 08/05/2014 23:51

I am on the episode where everyone is sick with a virus in the hospital. I just love it - that and Game of Thrones at the mo.

Cope with chickenpox? I like to avoid chemicals as much as possible on the kids skin, so I have remedies for everything passed to me by my mother.

Just had a look at the chickenpox card and if I'm reading right:...

  • Mix ½ tspn of Baking soda in 1 glass of water and apply to body with sponge. When soda dries it should help control itchiness and irritation on skin. Or put 1/2 cup in warm water for a bath.
-Put honey on the scabs, helps heal the scars. -Apply vitamin E oil on the chickenpox blisters in order to quickly heal them. -Apply fresh aloe vera gel on the rashes to get a soothing relief from chickenpox

None of my kids have had it so no idea how well they work! Haha.

Mama1980 · 09/05/2014 08:06

My eldest ds (5 at the time) had chicken pox when Alex was only two weeks out of hospital. He had it really badly in terms of blisters but was absolutely fine in himself and didn't feel unwell at all. I agree with Mmama s suggestion and used bsoda in water on his skin it really helped with the itching.
I tried to keep him covered up as well I found when he couldn't see the blisters he forget they were there, also it stopped everything touching and irritating them.
I used a goats milk cream with vitamin E twice a day once the blisters has gone as it was really really dry.
How old is your little one? Alex didn't get it in the end as I was breast feeding and passed on immunity.
Glad to hear Halo is continuing to improve, did he have a good night? Have you had any luck with Artie and the bottles?

MultipleMama · 09/05/2014 19:58

Halo had a good night, he's sleeps practically all the time but I expected that as his body recovers. His feeds have increased and is having roughly 4oz feeds, every 2 hours which is doing him the world of good. :) Monday, I've been told he is bypassing HDU and going straight onto the children's ward! :)

We finally managed to get Artie to accept the bottles - we're using the BreastFlow ones, and she made less fuss with those, and can get a full feed out of them :)

Valdeeves · 09/05/2014 23:01

That's good news - thanks for the pox tips ladies - I'll be buying in the baking soda!

Valdeeves · 11/05/2014 00:34

Ha ha - got to love trashy TV!

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 11/05/2014 01:52

Those lifeguards in shorts. Yum Grin

Valdeeves · 11/05/2014 21:31

Watching Fargo tonight

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 11/05/2014 21:47

Spending tonight at home as the twin boys are just having a rough night, and I'm missing home comforts - like my bed! Called the hospital and Halo, has had a tube fed and is out like a light. Artie however is content to lay on DH's chest but refuses to go to sleep.

I have a bed full of children, so I think we're all bed sharing tonight, DH has hooked Bondi Rescue up to the TV, 3 out of 5 are asleep so hoping they'll fall asleep to the TV :)

MultipleMama · 12/05/2014 14:40

Urgh. Feeling so nauseous today, I think it was that curry I made yesterday, it never did taste right. I hope I haven't poisoned the kids Hmm... called Apollo's unit and they said not to come incase it is food poisoning. They're not moving him until this evening so DH will be there when he finishes work at 3.

Valdeeves · 12/05/2014 22:00

Where's he moving too?

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 12/05/2014 22:06

He's just being moved to the general Children's ward upstairs as now he's out of danger and it's just about his recovery. :)

Mama1980 · 13/05/2014 08:44

Great news well done Halo! I hope you're feeling better today Mmama?

MultipleMama · 13/05/2014 13:05

I still feel shocking and have got a headache but today is busy and kids don't wait for mama to get better haha xx

How are you lovelies today?
