New thread - happy Monday!

Just incase you are wondering this is a thread for premmie mums who feel like they have missed out on the NCT classes experience and would like to chat.

I have missed out twice as has had two premies!
One of which seems to be wide awake at 4am - I have just fallen over a toy trying to get to her and am now cuddling her praying she'll drop off fast!
How's everyone?

He's fascinated with the turtle. He's weirdly perfectly content to stare at the ceiling. He hates the melody but I've noticed the ocean sound on the lowest volume intrigues him. The vibrating pad is a miracle!! That thing is genius! When Halo is in wrap I put against my tummy and his, and when he's fussy I switch it on and he's so much easier to settle.

Glad they finally listened to you and gave your little one something to help her xx

MultipleMama · 08/04/2014 10:48

Happy birthday to my beautiful baby girl, Aubrey Greta, who turns 3 years old today!! She's growing up so fast! I love you farther than the moon and back xxxx

MultipleMama · 09/04/2014 23:23

Thinking of weaning Artie next week. She's 27+1 weeks and even though most research says to wait until a preemie is 6-8 months (actual age). I talked to her GP and her Ped at the hospital and they said to go ahead and try it, and if it doesn't work, leave it and try in a few weeks.

She seems ready; hands to mouth, eyes to food, seems to be cluster feeding more than usual. So I think I'm going to introduce 3 meals between all her feeds. We BLW, so I'm going to try porridge pancakes for breakfast. I am hoping to avoid most pureed stuff (my eldest twins had pureed everything for months because they refused to try solids).

Bankholidaybaby · 11/04/2014 13:00

Hello, I hope all the babies are well. Mine just seems to be a little bit I'll all the time now - just been to the GP again who says he thinks he has a virus.

FraggleRock77 · 11/04/2014 14:37

Hello. I'm currently spoiling myself. Booked into a hotel for a Hen Night while DH has DS. I'm laid on the bed with a gin and tonic. MMama your daughter has a beautiful name. How is the weaning going with Artie? Val, is your LO any better. BankHol, was your GP helpful? Any nice WKend plans anyone? Xxx

livenlet · 11/04/2014 20:57

MultipleMama · 12/04/2014 08:18

In hospital :(Apollo has not been well lately which we put down to teething and his GP agreed too. His temp was up, his feeds had decreased and more sleepy and stressed than usual...However around 2am, his monitor went off usually it's nothing so I wasn't too worried but when I looked at him he just didn't look right and he felt very hot. I woke DH up who tried to rouse him while I called an ambulance.

DH mananged to wake him where he proceeded to vomit on DH (he has never vomitted before) and bathed him twice (first time Apollo had diarrhea in the tub) as he was putting on his onesie DH noticed a rash a long his neck and around his ears. Cue freaking out.

By the time ambulance arrived Apollo was screaming and still vomitting, his breathing had also become rattled. In the ambulance he had a sezuire, he is currently in HDU on CPAP due his breathing and swollen nodes on his neck.

They suspect measles (going by symptoms and rash) but are going to do a lumbar to rule out meningitis. He's on fluids, pain relief and antibiotics.

...And if things couldn't get any worse around 4.30am Artie started getting a high temperature and diarrhea so they are keeping her in too; as she's been exposed.

I am completely exhausted and DH has had to phone work and has been given 5 days sick off starting Monday. And cancel this morning's conference call.

Such a blasted mess. I feel such a crappy mama for not noticing sooner and for letting it get to this point. Just when things were starting calm down. :(I hate this!

FraggleRock77 · 12/04/2014 09:47

Sending positive thoughts MMama. Don't blame yourself. We also thought DS was teething when it turned out to be a UTi. In hindsight things are always more obvious. I hope you're home very soon.
I hope you're having a good wk end Liv? Grin

Bankholidaybaby · 12/04/2014 10:29

Mmama, I was reading your post thinking how amazing you were to call the ambulance when you did and how good your instinct was - then you say you should have noticed sooner! You noticed sooner than most people would - you called the ambulance because you didn't feel right about how he felt and seemed, and then he got the symptoms that would worry other people - I think that's being a great mother.

I hope all is going well at the hospital with Halo and Artie, and that the others at home are coping. Xx

MultipleMama · 12/04/2014 17:17

So hard not to blame myself and as they hindsight it's clear to see there was something wrong. I haven't slept yet, I want to but Halo is currently in the throughs of a screaming fit and becomes worse when you try to pick him up, so I'm sat here watching him scream and it's breaking my heart :( He's completely covered in rashes and his fever has risen to 40.5 despite meds so when the doctor returns we are going to try and bring it down by sponge.

I think he's having a sensory overload. Called his OT and she said to make calm environment so DH is currently getting home comforts to bring like his weighted swaddle, vibe pad and night light.

Artie is also covered in rashes but just her neck, back and arms and a few on her face. Her fever is finally breaking as is down to 39.1 :)

It just really sucks this is the first time Artie has been in hospital since coming home in Nov and Halo was finally, finally settling into a routine. I'm sick of hospitals :( :(

PiL have agreed to look after DC and keep them in for a few days as we have no idea where they picked up the virus from, my BiL and his kids cannot even visit his parents (he's HIV+ and measles could be deadly to him). I feel like we keep dragging family into this and ruining their plans and putting their lives on hold. Urgh, I hate feeling "poor me" and so frustrated at myself. DH is so calm and is brilliant, I feel useless compared to him. :(

Valdeeves · 12/04/2014 17:25

What's happening now Mama? Did they get to the bottom of what's wrong with them?
Are you ok? Must be stressed?
Sorry not been on much, DD also been poorly for a week with an infection but antibiotics have sorted her out.
You must blame yourself - its impossible to tell with a baby as they can be fractious anyway.

MultipleMama · 12/04/2014 19:29

Lumbar puncture ruled out meningitis and blood work showed measles so that's a little bit of relief.

I now understand your feelings Fraggle when your LO had the lumbar, it's something I never want to go through again.

Halo finally cried himself to sleep - I think his weighted swaddled help. Only now he's plastered against my chest and any attempt to move him wakes him. The staff are happy for me to keep holding him as long he doesn't too warm and his CPAP isn't knocked.

One good thing is that the twins can share on cubicle. Artie's temp is still a little high but nothing too worrysome. She's on pain relief for joint pains and is a little sensitive to light. DH has her in just a diaper on his chest with those crappy hospital sheet covering them. Both are out for the count.

I'm stressed and worn out, my nerves are shot and I miss my kids :(

Glad to hear DD is on the mend! :)

Frag, how's your LO? X

Valdeeves · 12/04/2014 19:49

Musn't !!! I meant to say

Valdeeves · 12/04/2014 19:51

How do they treat measles these days? Are you guys staying there overnight?

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 12/04/2014 20:00

I think they usually just let it run it's course with loads of fluids (or breastfeeds) and pain relief if the fever is bad or having body aches.

We're in because his fever is dangerously high and having trouble with his breathing. He had seziure in the ambulance and is still vomitting. Artie's just in because she started showing signs at the hospital, she can go home tomorrow but Halo has got to stay in until he's off CPAP and his fever is no longer dangerously high. Hoping it's just overnight for him too but he's really struggling.

livenlet · 12/04/2014 20:14

Mmama my thoughts are with you really hope twins get better asap hope you manage to get some rest too,

Valdeeves · 12/04/2014 20:53

Livenlet how are you getting on with that 12 year old?

OP posts:
Bankholidaybaby · 12/04/2014 22:12

Mmama, I'm so glad it's not meningitis. I'm praying the measles runs its course quickly and that his fever subsides.

Valdeeves · 13/04/2014 00:44

How's Halo doing now?

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 13/04/2014 01:16

He's finally sleeping in the cot and not on me so I can try and catch a few winks. He's stopped vomitting but still has pretty bad diarrhea. He hasn't fed since yesterday evening so they're going to see if I can get him to feed when he wakes up, if not, then they're going to put in a OG-tube just to get some nutrition into him besides the fluid drip. They say he'll be on CPAP at least until afternoon but they increased his meds as his fever reached 42.3 at one point which sent him into another sezuire but I think the meds are starting to work as he now back down to 40.2 - still high though.

MultipleMama · 13/04/2014 17:59

Artie has been discharged! She's now home with DH. She's been given some pain relief prescription in case see needs it but otherwise she just has to ride it out.

Halo is still on CPAP and unfortunately had to have the OG tube in because he won't latch (even tried a bottle but no luck), his temp has lowered slightly to 40 but not nearly low enough.

PiL have kindly agreed to have the DC until Fri or Mon.

MultipleMama · 13/04/2014 18:18

Doctors have just informed me that tomorrow morning Halo will be taken for a MRI and EEG because they have a few suspicions about the Lumbar that was done yesterday. Doctors here don't tell you more unless you ask; I'm terrified to ask. Why do they want brain scans?! He only has measles! I need DH but he has Artie. And i'm freaking out...

MultipleMama · 14/04/2014 20:14

Just to update you a little. I will be AWOL for awhile, Apollo has developed Encephalitis from the measles and has took a turn for the worse and will be transfered to another hospital who are more experienced to treat the Neuro side of things. So, yeah. I'll be absent for awhile but I'll still be reading! X

nagapie1 · 14/04/2014 21:29

So sorry to hear that, MultipleMama. I don't post here much but do read and I always am very inspired by your energy and positivity, I hope that and your family support you through this difficult time.

My son also had a very hard time when he was born. Three days after he came home and after many phone calls to the professionals who told me he was just being fussy, I called an ambulance to take him back to hospital. He was back on a ventilator for 3.5 weeks and his infection lead to NEC and he had to have half his long intestine resected. After having been through so much and feeling finally in the clear, it was horrible to find ourselves back in hospital hell and even worse than before.

Hopefully Apollo will do really well and get better soon but I know how you must be feeling; stay strong.

FraggleRock77 · 15/04/2014 03:06

Just catching up MMama. So sorry to hear about your news. Everything crossed that your LO will be ok x
