Hey mums. I’ve just started the medical abortion process, I’ve taken the first tablet a couple of hours ago. I’m absolutely terrified is anyone able to chat to me please? And can anyone please give me some gentle experiences as everything I’ve read online has terrified me. Has anyone had an experience that hasn’t resulted in pains as bad as labour etc? Would appreciate anyone to chat to.

Hi @scaredmu please don’t be scared

i did my medical termination at home last week Thursday & Friday. I was so so so scared that I was shaking for both processes after reading horror stories online. In the end my pain was manageable by paracetamol and ibuprofen, my bleeding was just abit worse than my heavy periods and I found the best thing for me was sitting on the toilet until it was all done. This will all be over with soon.

this was my first pregnancy, so no experience of labour but I do get bad periods and didn’t have to use the Codine. I also didn’t vomit nor felt any nausea.

you’ll be okay, thinking of you

Thank you so much for your reply that response has made me feel a million times better! Sending you love too hope you’re feeling okay now! I’m feeling alot more emotional than I had anticipated. Even though this is 1000% the right choice for us. I also have had bad period pains in previous years (they used to make me sick) so I’m hoping I can handle the pain that comes. Are you still bleeding? Thank you again for your response it’s honestly lifted a little weight off my shoulders x

I’m alot better now thank you:) I was very emotional though - I cried through my telephone call with the nurse! I’m still bleeding but like a light period now :) not had cramps for 2 days

scaredmu · 28/12/2022 18:35

@Confusedandlost1812 bless you that’s good you’re doing okay, it’s not easy is it. That’s good to hear. Do you mind me asking how many weeks you were please? I think I’m only around 4 weeks (doctors class it as more as last period was longer ago but I know that I can’t be that far) and I’m wondering if the earlier the less bad it is maybe

Confusedandlost1812 · 28/12/2022 19:24

@scaredmu I was 7 weeks from my LMP, But my cycle is about 35 days average (longer than usual) so I would’ve around 5 weeks fetal age. I do think you’re right there, I think the further on you are the worse it might be

PixieDust10 · 29/12/2022 11:18

Hi.
I also went through this last week and wondering if you are still experiencing any pain?

Confusedandlost1812 · 29/12/2022 11:18

Hi @PixieDust10 I haven’t had any cramps for 3 days ish now but still bleeding mod/lightly

PixieDust10 · 29/12/2022 11:20

My bleeding has stopped but still having pain in lower abdomen and back. I think I am over thinking and worrying about infection but I suppose it’s still very early days.
I hope your doing ok.

scaredmu · 29/12/2022 11:47

@Confusedandlost1812 ah okay! Mine also would be around 7 weeks from last period but I know it can only be 4 weeks. I took the first tablets yesterday morning around 10am and was going to wait til 2pm today for the second lot as I needed to pop out but the bleeding has started naturally so I’ve put the second lot in and got into bed. Really nervous just trying to stay calm

PixieDust10 · 29/12/2022 11:57

@scaredmu I hope all goes ok for you today. I stayed in bed for the 1st couple of days which I found helped a lot. I’m now a week down the line and hoping it’s all settling down now.

scaredmu · 29/12/2022 12:12

@PixieDust10 thank you, I can feel some weak movement/cramping starting it’s a bit of an odd feeling but the tablets have only been in less than an hour. Hope you’re okay!

Thinking of you today @scaredmu you’ve got this! Mine started super quick too

scaredmu · 29/12/2022 14:30

@Confusedandlost1812 thank you bless you! Well not much happened but the past 10 mins it’s started much more, pains kicking in and bleeding has sped up. Did you put the third and final tablets in vaginally? I want to do that as I don’t want them in my mouth as I read it can make people sick more likely. But worried about it coming back out with the bleeding

OP posts:
PixieDust10 · 29/12/2022 15:49

@scaredmu I did the last tablets in my mouth and I couldn’t taste anything. I left them for 30min then swallowed what was left with some water. I wasn’t sick but I have had no sickness throughout any of the process.

Confusedandlost1812 · 30/12/2022 12:44

How are you today @scaredmu ?

scaredmu · 30/12/2022 16:33

@Confusedandlost1812 hey thanks so much for asking, I’m actually doing really well, as you rightly said it was nothing like the bad experiences online, the pain at its worst was like bad period pains but was immediately gone with ibuprofen/paracetamol and a hot water bottle. The bleeding was pretty yuck and heavy but manageable. I almost feel like “has it worked well enough” I’ve only had one clot that was quite small but online it says that’s fine. I feel so much more human today than I have for the last couple of weeks the nausea and exhaustion has already gone. Hope you’re doing okay!

Hey again @Confusedandlost1812 i just wondered did your bleeding get worse again after getting better? I took the first tablet a week ago tomorrow and the second the day after. And the bleeding etc was slowing down but today all of a sudden im in pain, loads of blood and big and small clots.

Confusedandlost1812 · 03/01/2023 19:07

Hi @scaredmu mine went light then came back heavy!! Only stopped bleeding on day 9, now having minimal spotting very rarely.

hope all is ok

scaredmu · 03/01/2023 19:34

Ah that’s good to hear you had the same so hopefully it’s normal. Ah bless you it’s a long road isn’t it I didn’t expect it to be so drawn out

Hi, afraid don’t have any advice but I had an unexpected positive test today and I have made an appointment for a phone consultation with Msi for this Saturday (earliest they had). I was wondering how long it took you to get the medication from first consultation? I’m about 5 weeks I think and just want it sorted quickly. Am also terrified about the pain and wondering how many days I’ll be bleeding for. I hope you’re doing ok OP and to here any other experiences would be so reassuring and helpful x

Confusedandlost1812 · 04/01/2023 12:56

@Ellemkc hi! If I was you I’d ring other clinics too - like bpas and Nupas as they’re much quicker. I initially went with MSI but cancelled after getting a last min appt elsewhere, and I heard online MSI require 2 calls prior to dispensing the pills

Ellemkc · 04/01/2023 13:01

@Confusedandlost1812 thank you so much for this. I initially tried BPAS but they told me only MSI work in my area with NHS funding. Am in south west of the UK. I’m going to try Nupas now as I really don’t want to wait too long if I can help it! Do you mind me asking did you pay or get this done via NHS? Thanks a lot x

Ellemkc · 04/01/2023 13:19

@Confusedandlost1812 confirmed MSI is the only NHS funded option in my area. So I’m going to have to wait. First consultation is Saturday. In my mind I have almost rationalised it that the second one is likely to be mid-late next week then I guess a couple days for them to post out, so I guess I am looking at a couple more weeks before it’s done (plus recovery). Do you think that sounds feasible or were wait times even longer for you? God I wish I still lived in London!!! Thanks x

scaredmu · 04/01/2023 20:51

@Ellemkc hope all goes well for you sorry you have to wait! Mine took 7 days to arrive because of Royal Mail strikes and Xmas etc but most people say it arrives next day but that’s with bpas I’m not sure if it’s different with others. Hope you don’t have to wait too long! Don’t panick about the pain it’s no where near the horror stories online, like the lovely person said to me on here :) I’m a week past first tablet now and still bleeding and yesterday was fairly heavy, so still waiting to see when it settles. Hope you’re okay x

Glad to hear you’re doing well @scaredmu

@Ellemkc i went NHS - and all 3 covered my area! I’m more up north than you though so could be why.. I’m sure you might be able to push it more forward if you express that you want this doing asap! Thinking of you, it’ll be all done soon!
