Worried medical abortion is not working properly

Hi, sorry I am brand new to this so apologies if I do something wrong.

I am 22 and live with my parents and boyfriend. I had a late period and got a strong positive pregnancy test at the start of this week (just stupidness and naivety thinking I was immune to pregnancy- will never make the same mistake again.) and knew almost straight away I can’t have this baby. This is really devastating to me and I’ve been very emotional about it all week but it’s just not an option with our financial and current living situation, as well as Covid. I’m 5 weeks and 1 day.

The only person I’ve talked to about it is my boyfriend, I can’t tell my parents as I’m scared they would kick us out, rightfully. So it feels weird to be typing it.

Anyway to get to the point, I had a phone consultation with a lovely midwife from BPAS on Wednesday evening and had my packet of pills delivered to my door yesterday morning- can’t fault them, they have been very gentle and non-judgemental which I’m thankful for. Took the first pill yesterday lunchtime and the second set at 3:30pm today, 4 hours ago, along with 30mg of codeine. So far I’ve had fairly bad cramping but nothing much worse than my worst period pains, no bleeding whatsoever.
I’ve just inserted the second lot of misoprostol about ten minutes ago. Feeling no pain whatsoever now. I’m worried that something hasn’t worked or I’ve done it wrong. Can someone please advise? I’m pretty scared and I don’t know what I’ll do if it doesn’t work.

Iv been Googling EVERYTHING and I couldn't find anything that anyone had started to bleed 24hours after medication!! Did you use the test they sent you ? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did I no I shouldn't have but I did and it was negative .. yes I'm such a worrier too I'll still over think now until 3 weeks passed and I do another test but I'll probably take 1 sooner knowing me ! Also my partner is in for the snip so this never has to happen again xx

Glad that you got some good news can only imagine how unsettling it must have been considering what you're already dealing with! Youre definitely in the clear now due to the ultrasound everything should be just fine we should consider ourselves lucky not having to deal with much pain and bleeding xx

the Only thing Iv had to deal with its feeling very Tired but it's got to be due to the stress of the thought it didn't work! So glad they got me in yesterday for the ultrasound! Yes we should thank ourself so lucky Iv read some horror stories 🤦🏻‍♀️ Xx

Hi sorry I haven’t updated. Haven’t really been myself. So I went for a scan a week ago and I was told I had remnants in my uterus from the medical abortion. I was given the option of another dose of the abortion pill or the surgical abortion and I choose another dose. I had severe cramping and I barely bled. Just small spotting. So I’m scared it didn’t work again and this time around I’ll have no choice but to do a surgical abortion which I’m so scared of. I’m going for another scan tomorrow to see if all the remaining pregnancy tissue in my uterus is gone. I’m really praying it is gone so I won’t have to do a surgical one.

@Joy333 no way :( hope it's all gone for you! I now feel worried but I'm pretty sure I had a chemical pregnancy anyway I wouldn't have needed the abortion pills if I just held off a few more days .. I'm going to do another test after the weekend to make sure anyway! Did they see something in your uterus then? When they showed me mine there was nothing there .. but Iv had no bleeding and. Don't feel pregnant at all I do have other children and suffer with hgc (sickness) from very early on all the way to the end! Let me no xxx

I’m no more pregnant I just have left over pregnancy tissue in my uterus. It was there on the scan. So this is what I need to get rid of completely. So I’m hoping my scan today goes well and my uterus is completely empty. I don’t think you should be worried there was nothing your uterus so I think you’re good. Pray for me.xxx

Good luck with it and please don't worry. I was told I had remained products or blood they couldn't tell 100%. I waited for my period to come and had a scan afterwards and it had gone away. Good luck xx

I went for a scan today and there were still remained products. I was advised to do a D and C. I was sedated so I didn’t feel anything. On my way home and I’m just glad this is all over. Getting on birth control asap. Thank you guys for your support.

Hi everyone, I'm 4 week since I had a termination at home iv just taken a cheap hcg test ( what they told me to take) and it's still saying I'm positive.. 😭😭 it's made me feel sick with worry I haven't had another period yet but they said it can take up to 8 weeks to come, but because I had no pain and not much bleeding I'm really worrying anyone else testing positive still?? X

Is it fainter than the last one you took?xx

I would say it's the same as my first 1 was light because I was very early x

I did have a scan a few days after and they did there test on me and it was negative and there was no pregnancy in my uterus so I'm very confused ..

If they've done a scan after and a test and it was negative I wouldn't worry too much hun the test you did may be sensitive and could pick up the little bit of hcg you have left, have you had intercourse since as I think you should rule out and get it checked that it's not a new pregnancy if you have xx

I haven't had any unprotected sex, the midwife called and she said at home tests are not good to take after because I can test positive for up to 6 week and I can also not have my period for up to 8 weeks, she did say if I wanted I could call my doctors and ask them to check my hcg levels to see if there coming down, I did do a clear blue and that's saying 1-2 week witch means 3-4 but it must be coming doesn't because I would be over 3months on there test if it's not worked.. I no there's nothing. In my uterus and 2 of there tests they give you I was negative but I'm worrying it's ectopic :( iv heard stories people don't have symtoms but she did say if it was ectopic out tests would show positive and she wasn't worried about it being ectopic x

The at home tests are definitely more sensitive I used the one they gave me also and it came out negative and shortly after did the at home test and there was still a faint line. I know it's hard but try not to overthink or worry, if it was a ectopic at this stage you would definitely know and like you said it's showing 1-2 weeks which means that it's likely that you still have a bit of the hormone which is completely normal x

Hi Iv come to the hospital today for a scan, and they've found 2 sacks 😭😭😭 empty still left inside they said I was very very very earlia then what I thought ... but they've got to rescan me in 10 days and then give me medication for it to come away x

I'm currently 4/5 weeks i don't know yet . I took the pills and I cramps for the whole dayy but only bled a little. I already know what that means . I have a continuing pregnancy. Which is actually sad because I'm starting college in February so I have to retake the medication

I took 8 pills and I cramped for about an hour and then I started bleeding moderately. I was around 4/5 weeks pregnant. I passed a sac like thing , it had yellowish fluid inside it and something else inside the sac. Idk if that was the amniotic sac or something. After passing that thing I passed clots & bled for 4 more days. My breasts became less tender and my nipples aren't sore anymore. I don't feel pregnant at all. Some of my symptoms were back pain & vomiting . Now I only have little back pain. But something feels off . What to do , pls help ?

have you taken a the test they gave you?? Also if you feel off call them and they'll advise you what to do.. tell them you want a scan to check it's all come away

Hey all,I found out I’m pregnant last week,I am 45 and married,we have a beautiful daughter, our contraception has failed. I have decided to do a medical abortion,have taken the first pill yesterday. The second lot at 9am this morning,and the third lot at 1pm. I have had mild to moderate cramping on and off,but no bleeding or spotting at all. Is there anyone here that went through similar? Please help!
