Worried medical abortion is not working properly

Hi, sorry I am brand new to this so apologies if I do something wrong.

I am 22 and live with my parents and boyfriend. I had a late period and got a strong positive pregnancy test at the start of this week (just stupidness and naivety thinking I was immune to pregnancy- will never make the same mistake again.) and knew almost straight away I can’t have this baby. This is really devastating to me and I’ve been very emotional about it all week but it’s just not an option with our financial and current living situation, as well as Covid. I’m 5 weeks and 1 day.

The only person I’ve talked to about it is my boyfriend, I can’t tell my parents as I’m scared they would kick us out, rightfully. So it feels weird to be typing it.

Anyway to get to the point, I had a phone consultation with a lovely midwife from BPAS on Wednesday evening and had my packet of pills delivered to my door yesterday morning- can’t fault them, they have been very gentle and non-judgemental which I’m thankful for. Took the first pill yesterday lunchtime and the second set at 3:30pm today, 4 hours ago, along with 30mg of codeine. So far I’ve had fairly bad cramping but nothing much worse than my worst period pains, no bleeding whatsoever.
I’ve just inserted the second lot of misoprostol about ten minutes ago. Feeling no pain whatsoever now. I’m worried that something hasn’t worked or I’ve done it wrong. Can someone please advise? I’m pretty scared and I don’t know what I’ll do if it doesn’t work.

I am bleeding .. but I'm not soaking pads just when I wipe it's quite messy like a period that's a usual period for me Too x

My bleeding was the exact same and then it progressed and got a little heavy so you should be fine, I had pain but it was only intense for about a hour then I'd just cramp now and then I have painful periods regardless so I think thats what contributed to it 5 weeks is really early so you're not expected to bleed much or have excessive pain x

I only started to bleed after 24 hours and it's on going but like I said there isn't a lot of it.. but i haven't lost any clots are anything just like a period but I do now feel a little better after hearing your story, I keep wanting the intense pain to start I just want it over with now It might sound horrible my partner is booked in for the snip in January and it was all just a accident 😭 xx how long did it take for you to start?

It was 48 hours at 12.30pm today.. so I'm way over now and still haven't had anything I think it might be best to still get scanned but I'm so hoping my bleeding was it yesterday are hoping something happens tonight Iv given up hope though :( x

We basically all in the situation. It’s very nerve racking. I had to take an extra dose of misoprostol and I started seeing white pregnancy tissue mixed with blood. Not really bleeding only when I wipe. It’s been almost 48 hrs since the first dose of misoprostol. I’m scared I just hope it worked

Have you called them to see if its working ? I'm still the same today no pains.. just when I wipe nothing out of the ordinary at all just like my usual period 🤔 how you getting on today? X

im assuming even with just a period yours worked ? Was it within the 2 days because Iv had no pains and I'm 71 hours in now :( x

I know I shouldn't have taken it until 3 week after but I took the test they give you because I thought it was a pregnancy test to make sure I was defiantly pregnant and it come back that the termination was successful already?? Not sure if that's right .. but Iv called and asked for another 1 to take in 3 weeks time 🤦🏻‍♀️ X

Hey I just wanted to give you a little head up I called today and the nurse called me back straight away she was so nice she said because I'm 5 week I'm probably not even that that there probably isn't enough tissue to clot but it's a good sign that I'm bleeding and that she will scan me anyway, she said it may be a chemical pregnancy too and it's good that it does just feel like a normal period for me she said not to worry x

I bet you feel relieved now. That’s good news. Are you soaking pads at all or you only see blood when you wipe ? Cos it’s almost 72 hrs and all I have is brown discharge. I haven’t soaked 1 pad at all 😔

Just blood when I wipe and that's how my periods are sometimes .. I'm over 72 hours now and realy hoping it's worked I only ever have a period for 4 days and it's just like! Today it's like I'm going to be coming off a period it's very strange ... but she's booked me for a scan next week I did have bits of tissue in my blood for the few days Iv been on .. but I can't see how Iv had no pains :/ how's your pains? Have you called them at all? X

ive been cramping right from the first dose. I’m still cramping but it’s mild. Yes I called and I was told the bleeding will get heavier. So fingers crossed. Xx

Is that what they told you? Because I feel like My bleeding is slowing down :/ but I'll see how it is in the morning.. have they told you to just ride it out ? I'm with MSI and soon as it's been 48 hours and there's no cramping are bleeding they get you in for a check up, Iv had on and off cramps but very dull I don't even need ibrofen for them but when you read up on other people's stories they have to take the codeine that they get so I'm baffled 😕 xx

Yes I was told to wait it out it will eventually get heavier but there’s no sign of it getting heavier 😔I’ll probably just wait a couple more days before I book another appointment to see if it worked. And also everyone is different, I don’t think the cramps has to be very painful. At least you’re cramping a little I think that’s an indication that it’s working.xx

Have you been moving around Ano it sounds like a silly question but they told me to keep mobile to bring my period on heavier, I had cramps in my back and front last night only mild like I said didn't hurt at all.. but I went to the toilet and wiped and there was still blood and bits of tissue? I'm assuming it's tissue looks a darker red only small tho they've all been small x

Quick update they've rang me to go for a scan this morning as soon as I can get there so I will let you no the out come hun x

Yes I’ve been moving around. Still not getting heavy. Yeah mine is more brownish with little clots here and there when I wipe

Hi I just wanted to update you sorry it's took all day I dropped my phone and had to get it fixed 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lol, I had my scan and there's nothing in my uterus .. she said she's not a big fan of the telephone meds because they don't scan you before hand! She also did the pregnancy test on me. They provide you with. And it was negative .. I said it's just been a normal period no pain no clots not filled 1 pad and today I'm basically off it .. she said it could be chemical pregnancy are I was so early it's just come away as a period, she said to defo take the test in 3 weeks anyway but to just take it as though I'm negative now, but tonight I feel so tired and drained .. I just feel worn out I'm not sure if thats what happens after raking the medication x

Thank you for the update. I bet you feel relieved now. I doubt you’re still pregnant. But I think it will be a good idea to take the test again in a couple weeks. I go in for my scan next week. I really hope it worked for me.

its ok hun, I think if it doesn't work they just provide more medication anyway some woman need more but look at me I'm still baffled.. 🤦🏻‍♀️ But there's no pregnancy in my uterus and she said if it was Anywere else (ectopic) would show on a test are I'd have symtoms so she wasn't remotely worried... do you feel tired. Are anything? I just can't not be bothered to do anything I wonder if it's the medication and the. Process even tho I havent had a hard time x

Yes I think it's stress I do suffer with anxiety and half the time never no what triggers it so this won't be helping me at all! 😴😴😴 my fingers are crossed for you and if you need me you can always message hun x

Yes I feel very tired and exhausted. I’ve been overthinking a lot. I’ve googled everything about medical abortion 😭I’ve been so stressed out. I was particularly bothered if was an ectopic cos I wasn’t bleeding up until I took a second dose. But after I passed bits of tissue I felt relief even if it’s still a worry. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it was negative. Also I’m still feeling kinda sick I guess it’s cos of the medication.
