Hello All

Have been lurking due to having nasty summer cold thing - sore throat and headache etc - feeling quite grim. Not helped by the fact honey and lemon and paracetamol is the best I can do! Not feeling up to name checking, but wanted to say hi, especially to those who have been feeling a bit low or having issues with appts.

Alba I am having an ind mw, but am lucky she is my friend so is not charging me for care. I am about to switch over to her after having my booking in appt with the nhs mw who came on Mon. I needed to get the bloods done by them as it's a pain otherwise. You might find this website useful if looking for a Doula or ind mw www.independentmidwives.org.uk/. I know many do payment by monthly installments so it makes it a bit more affordable.

Hope to be back when feel a bit less ill!

clareanna · 11/07/2010 20:23

Evening all- quiet here today?
Hope everyone is ok and had a good weekend.
muse lol at vomming behind a tree- poor you!

happy how are you feeling?

Annie can you choose a middle ground with this pg? Some scans for reassurance when you need them, but not the bloods?

Today is my bad day- from mmc this is the time the bean stopped growing. Have my day from hell assessment tomorrow and then a scan on tuesday morning -fx!

very best of luck for tomorrow and for Tuesday Clareanna, looking forward to hearing good news.

Annie I'm so sorry not to have remembered that you'd had so many losses, it must be really tough trying to decide what to do, I wish I could think of something helpful to say, possibly just go with your gut instinct, often the best decision maker? We're all rooting for you that this little one is a lovely healthy sticky one.

Unbuffy, another Tuesday scan, very best of luck for you too.

LadyBee · 11/07/2010 21:55

Couldn't resist doing that list, needed to see me get up to the 8 week mark, putting my dates back those few days seemed to make this stretch last forever

Annie I had a long chat with DH this morning about the idea of going for another scan, following the last one I had which showed a heartbeat but smaller size than expected. DH was really good at helping me clarify why I wanted it - for me it'll only be 'reassuring' if I see spot-on growth for the interval (or better) as well as continued heartbeat (obviously). There's an enormous chance I wouldn't see that, because of the variability of growth patterns, measurements, it would be at a different place etc etc. The only advantage for me finding out that something had gone wrong before my body told me (or before the hospital's standard dating/NT scan), is that is might give me more chance to 'deal with it' before I have to travel for work. But I've got holiday booked when I'm about 13/14 weeks, so if the worst happens and is discovered at the scan, I'll have some time up my sleeve.

In all the reading I did about scan variability/accuracy etc etc, I did read quite a lot that suggested that an early scan at 8 weeks, will give the best prediction of outcome for the pregnancy. I guess by that time, they should see heartbeat, CRL is large enough not to be completely thrown by a mm off from the sonographer, and the yolk sac and gestational sac should be within predictable parameters. Where are you now? And do you want to be added to the list??
Good luck with it all - especially making a decision. We resolved that we'd take it day by day, but if I started to feel bad or very very anxious I'd book one.

I have been absolutely ravenous these last few days. Not constant, but the hunger just descends and then finding something to assuage it becomes all-important. Fortunately we just discovered a fantastic Indian curry delivery - leaflet came through the door - it's amazingly nice, so have filled up on spicey food tonight and the beast that is my stomach appears to have been satisfied.

I'm on tenterhooks, watching the cup final and typing, I drew Spain in my work pool....come on!!

LadyBee · 11/07/2010 21:56

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

[g rin]

LadyBee · 11/07/2010 21:57

bloody hell.

That was spooky.

I should be hired out to football teams.

AlbaDeTamble · 12/07/2010 11:10

Where is everyone??

Bad day for me, 15 weeks and had what felt like very strong, very painful Braxton Hicks this morning, and now bump and lower back really aching... anyone higher up the list than me have any experience of this so soon?? Have managed to get an appointment with the midwife this afternoon to check it out, was quite scary at the time and I'm feeling rather sick now

Unbuffy · 12/07/2010 11:35

Hi Alba, I'm here! No clever ideas or advice, hope all goes well with mw and they find the hb for you. the only time I've had aches like that is when I've rather overdone it - but they don't feel much like b/h to me (But then i've never been sure what they SHOULD feel like iyswim - never got to do labour).

In bad mood due to mother's misbehaving dog, too many people invading my house/space and general knackeredness... Oh and very clingy toddler.

Gi1da · 12/07/2010 13:09

Hello. Also lurking about but trying not to share my lack of positivity. Not feeling pregnant just feeling fat and gloomy. Have midwife appt on Wednesday, I hope they do a doppler otherwise I will be continuing my menkul state of well I think I imagined it all. No baby, just lardy.

Alba, no experience of that I'm afraid but I am a total novice at all this.

LadyBee doing the lottery this week then?

Unbuff hope you manage to find some peace and quit - do you have a shed??

Unbuffy · 12/07/2010 13:28

mmmm, peace and quit...

Gilda I am feeling similarly negative, with no good reasons. Blame hormones all the way. Have been quiet too recently because of that. Very nervous about scan tomorrow, have to go alone as dh away. where's that fish gone?

-(@) o O

(Like the fishy? It have bubbles...)

sparklyrainbow · 12/07/2010 13:48

Hi everyone. I have been lurking on and off too- Gilda I could have written your post except my m/w appointment is Thursday! I have a (little) bump now, living in a couple of maternity skirts at the moment! I?m actually off work today as I think I must have overdone it yesterday- exhausted and back achey- got a sudden urge to clean and tidy (very unusual). Have had a lot of ligament stretching pains when I move suddenly as well. DH persuaded me a day of rest was probably a good thing!

Albahope everything is ok.

Good luck to anyone else with appointments/scans etc and welcome/hello to anyone I haven?t ?met? yet.

oh, and Unbuffy loving the fish and good luck tomorrow

AlbaDeTamble · 12/07/2010 14:15

so it's not just me then.... and I thought after the 12 week scan it would be all fine.

I like our new thread fish. Thankfully doesn't smell like that awful haddock!

-(@)oO

AlbaDeTamble · 12/07/2010 14:17

Don't think I got that fish quite right, was trying to practise with a preview message there... grrr, brian deserted me completely and I hit the wrong button, I need a slap with this here fishy

-(@) o O

(is this one right Unbuffy?)

Unbuffy · 12/07/2010 15:01

Make it up as you go along, I reckon - might be a different type of fish in your part of the world (things be pretty weeeird around yere...)

-(#)o O

PS what do you call a fish with no eyes?

Unbuffy · 12/07/2010 15:02

a fsh...

Gi1da · 12/07/2010 15:16

I iz loving da fishy!

Buffs at freudian peace and quit typo, oh I wish I could quit for some peace! Good luck tomorrow. Hope it puts the back on your face.

Also glad to hear that I am not alone in the duffer-doldrums, but sorry some of you are going through it too.

Sparkly I started painting the hallway on Sunday... maybe we need to be looking for these kind of symptoms rather than the physical ones!

AlbaDeTamble · 12/07/2010 17:15

Saw the most lovely, kind, reassuring midwife this afternoon. It's just stretching pains, but she said with post-mc anxiety they can seem so much worse and be incredibly worrying. Heartbeat heard, and a kick, all fine, and I was prescribed 2 paracetamol, a nice cup of tea, DH to cook dinner and my feet up for the evening. I won't argue with instructions like that!

Now here's to lovely good news from Unbuffy and Clareanna tomorrow.

HappyGirl1 · 12/07/2010 17:46

GIlda that's really hard.. I hope so much that they do the doppler for you I really really do but maybe don't get your hopes up too much. I was told that they don't do that anymore so as not to worry us mums to be but really I think when they don't do it,it worries us more. Maybe just ask lots and see if they will do it! I definitely found wks 16 and 17 a bit of a worry at the back of my mind but then just accepted that somehow things were okay. Once you get through the two weeks though then you start to wonder and hope re flutterings etc.

Alba that's mad you are having BH - that's exactly what my neighbour said about the pains I was having last week.. I really didn't realise you could get them so early. Good you have a MW appointment.

Good Luck to the scans tomorrow! Hope they go great

Unbuffy · 12/07/2010 18:04

I've just about had enough of today.

Just want the next few days to be over with now.

Can't even have a good cry - crying =coughing =being sick.

Trying to keep me fish up but, y'know.

Sorry for miserable post, will try to be more cheery in future (cue Monty Python Fish Slapping Dance but I can't draw that - perhaps

(@)-<

??

clareanna · 12/07/2010 18:56

unbuffy big hug and haddock coming your way - will be thinking of you tomorrow

alba it may be your ligaments softening that is causing some pain? put your feet up and take it easy

gi1da don't worry - the blobby phase won't last much longer - soon you'll have a proper bump and won't be able to see your toes - promise!

My assessment centre went ok today - far better than I thought it was going to be. had one panic halfway through when I went to the loo and found blood (cue horrendous images of ambulances and faintings in front of exec) but it was just mr pile having a lickle joke - how I laughed. after that nothing could stop me, only made one stupid mistake that I recognised immediately so hopefully that is taken into account - will get feedback after my hols.

scan is at 9.10 tomorrow morning. DH actually asked if i wanted him to come with me - errr YES?!

OP posts:
Muser · 12/07/2010 19:12

Good luck with the scan tomorrow clareanna.

Lots of big fishy slaps to those with fears. Although secretly I would be exactly the same! Let's think positively together!

WestYorkshireGirl · 12/07/2010 19:16

Hi All

Sending lots of positivity to everyone who has had a bad day. I too have been feeling a bit low, but put it down to being off with this cold thing.

Unbuffy have you tried chocolate? I find it does often does wonders? Hope tomorrow goes well.
Alba really pleased your mw was able to reassure you and hope you had a nice dinner cooked for you!
I'm not sure I understand the fish thing -can someone elaborate?
Sparkly did you rest today? I slept for most of the afternoon! It's my first day off since being pg so don't feel that bad!
LadyB well done on drawing Spain - did you get a nice windfall? I had Greece in our sweepstake so didn't do that well!
Clare good luck for tomorrow.
