Great news Loopy and Dorcas :)

Know what you mean Viv I bottled having a scan between my 6 and 12 week one to stay in the ignorance is bliss camp......I am with you on the knowing sooner rather than later thing which is why we went for the 6 week one but also the ignorance is bliss def works well Wink Good that your midwife is trying for you.

louisesh sorry you are having a rubbish time, fingers crossed for your BP on Friday.

In the world of Magic8 all seems to be going ok, feeling sick again and shattered this week (and it's only Tuesday!) Cat is out of the bag to the world including my mindees parents who have all been fabulous about having to swap days etc round because of all the appointments, which is nice. My lovely Midwife called me this morn and has booked in for another scan as I had a very mini wobble last week about not being scanned again until 17 weeks (which was when my waters broke with DD2) so that is a relief.......fingers crossed mon cervix doesn't start to get shorter Confused. MagicSis is still leaking fluid and was showing signs of infection yesterday......so is at the hospital today for a more thorough check up Hmm

Big waves to all - anyone feeling rather Autumnal?!

batteryhen · 14/09/2010 14:38

Loopy - That is brilliant news! May you have a very dull next 8 months!

magic - Hope your sis is Ok, and glad everyone is being kind and supportive of you!
viv - I too WAS battling with the 'to scan or not to scan'.

However - I have now booked a scan for Saturday 25th Sept - I will be 8+6 then. I just can't bear to wait for 12 weeks - I think the ignorance is bliss thing was fine with me, but now I have realised, if something is wrong I want to know about it sooner rather than later. However, I am feeling positive, and think everything will be fine :) (FX)Also - if I went for an early scan on the NHS I would have to go back to the same place as before and I can't do that - the very place just depresses me.

Big wave to everyone else - am at work so can't really name check without being fired ! xx

Unbuffy · 14/09/2010 14:39

YAY LOOPY WOOT WOOT! I'm so pleased for you, it must be really, well, probably bewildering and fabulous and just plain GrinGrin all at once. Sort of thang.

Very pleased for Dorcas too, it's such a relief to get to that point!

Magic16 Hope your sister's okay, and that you feel a bit less bleurgh soon - although with double bubble dot dot dot

Louisesh GAH bastard bastarding cars and the bastarding bastards who are supposed to mend/deal with them. You have my many many sympathies. Pull the 'I'm VERY pregnant and you might make me go into labour RIGHT NOW with any stress' card. You've got every right!

Clareanna well done on grasping the nettle - must have been very hard, especially dealing with someone that tricky, and required mucho tact and diplomacy. But only has to be done once...

Viv hmm a tricky one. What is your gut feeling? If you'd be more relaxed knowing then it's better to find out now, but knowing what it's like you'll probably be doing the bricking thing before the 12-week anyway, whether you scan or not. I had an early scan this time due to a bleed at 8 weeks and was convinced i'd lost it, but even though it was okay then i was still convinced it was all going to go wrong for the 12 week. And then the 20 week... It is truly hard to know what the best thing to do is. Sorry, that wasn't much help, was it?

Hello to anyone and everyone I've missed, there will doubtless be lots of you because brian has departed taking his suitcase with him after many nights waking up at 1.30 am and not getting back to sleep until 6. And constant agonising reflux - i now cannot eat any carbohydrates at all. And total lack of energy. It feels so unfair, when I was pg with dd I had buckets of energy and redecorated the whole house although it did not really need it. Now I really could DO with that energy because of a)toddler and b)house that really DOES need decorating (not to mention plain old tidying!). So where the &*%^ IS it? GAH.

Anyone else feeling really cheery today?! I normally love the autumn thang and the wind and so on but not today, Josephine.

And I've lost so much weight my wedding ring keeps falling off and if i lost it i'd be sooo upset it don't bear thinking about.

I'll stop now... [scrooge and bah humbug emoticon]

Unbuffy · 14/09/2010 14:41

x-posts Battery due to rambling rant. Hello and good luck!!

Sarahlou8 · 14/09/2010 15:41

Hi all, I've not been around for a long long time due to a house move and having no internet, but I've just seen boodle's news and wanted to say a huge congratulations on the arrival of little Alice, and hope everything is going well.
And also Hi to Viv glad youve finally made it and all the very best.
Hi to everyone else who remembers me, 34 weeks now and not long to go!! xx

dorcas111 · 14/09/2010 15:51

Loopy that is wonderful news, fx for the next few weeks, I hope they aren't too stressful for you.
Viv, I too went for the ignorance is bliss approach despite at first being determined to get an early scan- although of course it was far from bliss, more like an incredibly anxious three months of knicker checking and panicking over every twinge and ache. I think either way there is no avoiding the worry and stress, as there's never any guarantees, but I can see why you would want an early scan with your previous experiences.
magic, hope your sister is okay. That's good news about getting another scan, glad they are listening to you and looking after you.
unbuffy I didn't know it was possible to lose weight after the first trimester- the rate I am going my bum is going to outgrow my maternity jeans before my bump does... (although I did buy a size too small to start with as they were reduced to a tenner and the only size left...)
Hi everyone else, hope you are having a nice day. I'm off to take the dog out for a walk and it looks so grey and windy, I'd much rather stay on the sofa eating chocolate. (And that would be exactly why my arse is getting so fat... Blush )

bessie26 · 14/09/2010 21:05

Unbuffy - if you goto a jewelers they should be able to sell you/fit a little clip thing which will temporarily make your ring slightly smaller. (I think mine cost £5-£10ish)

I got one last winter as the cold & the post-pg weight loss meant my ring was very very close to slipping off. I'm still wearing it now as I don't want to get the ring made smaller in case my fingers get all chubby during this pg Grin (Green & Blacks Butterscotch is the only thing which stops me feeling sick )

toomuchteaching · 14/09/2010 21:29

Hello all.

Just a speedy update from teaching towers... had a growth scan today and all looking right on the curves etc. She did the 3D thing and seeing a little face was so weird but lovely... got a bit choked up.

Also cried at the births on BBC3 last night, it was brilliant, I'm so emotional though.

Hope everyone is well, glad there's some good news on here, and chin up everyone with car/autumn/house/ring/puppy/work issues! Just about to finish a big pack of minstrels... really ought to pass them round.

clareanna · 14/09/2010 22:41

good news loopy I know you probably don't feel quite out of the woods yet, but I'm so pleased for you!

dorcas fab to see you through the 20 week mark. I had a low lying placenta with ds and it moved round fine- nice to have another scan at 36 wks!!!

magic glad to hear you're being well looked after by your mw and will have the extra scan.

unbuffy I nearly fell off my chair at the thought of not being able to eat carbs- my worst pg nightmare! Although am slightly Envy at the thought of a bit of weight loss- I had a bit too much junk in the trunk to start with! However reflux sounds horrible- poor you! Is there anything you can take for reflux??

Bump is now out loud and proud at work- hurray!
Just realised that due to c-section, on Thursday I'll be officially half way there- yay!

AlbaDeTamble · 15/09/2010 09:23

Morning all

Loopy that must be such a relief! Hope you're taking it nice and easy now till next check.

Dorcas every scan is nervewracking now, glad all was good for you.

I'm feeling dreadful, spent an unhappy couple of hours vomiting last night. Not sure if it's something I've eaten, worried food poisoning will harm the baby... He was kicking madly throughout, which set the vomiting off again and I'm just drained this morning. He's still kicking so I guess is fine? All I can find on quick google search is that I should drink lots of water, try to eat bland food and no need to see Dr unless high temp (which I don't have) or if it goes on for 48 hrs. Hoping that means unlikely the bug will have hurt baby... But I worry about everything.
I too watched the BBC3 baby program and blubbed a bit, v scared seeing the 40yr old woman having to deliver at 29 weeks Shock. I turn 42 on Friday, don't look anywhere near as old as her, so my lovely DH assures me, and am in denial that I'm quite so old, in my mind I'm still thirtysomething... But still... The old mum risks have me worrying now too...
Sorry, bit of a mememe post. Will go back to sleep and try to come back later a little cheerier.

PenguinsMummy · 15/09/2010 09:26

Fab news Loopy and Dorcas!

Viv I thought about the early scan as well but have gone for the ignorance is bliss route - am 8 weeks today per dates but both DD's were 6 days early so don't know if that means I am more like 9 weeksish?!? I have my first MW appointment on Friday so will find out when my scan is then. When I first spoke to them, they did say that they would try and get me scanned around 10-11 weeks. I had MC at 11+2 and I think that I will be totally paranoid if I am scanned before then.

Like with all of my pregnancies, my bump is expanding rapidly and has popped out over the last 10 days so I don't think that this will go unnoticed for the next 4 weeks but don't really want to confirm to anyone at work just yet - will just have to get used to the stares Smile Bit of a shock to go from one week to the next and now have none of my normal clothes fit! Oh well - bring on the stretchy maternity clothes!! Grin

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 15/09/2010 09:51

Moaning Morning!, there is a big back cloud about magic towers today everyone is pissing me off today........well not everyone but YKWIM???? Hormones eh?

Upduf how you feeling today? The sky is very blue and the sun is out (although it's a little chilly) I hope it is your way too and is making your feel more cheery today. And Shock at your wedding band and no carbs because of reflux that SUCKS big times no wonder you are down! What about some flourless orange and almond cake (I have a recipe to try but it sounds lush) or just pure hardcore chocolate? I have plenty of weight to share if you wants some, I have also come across something scary called twin skin Confused!

Toomuchteaching oooooo on the 3D scan! Was that the Cherry thing on TV? I must watch on iPlayer when DH at work and DD at school so I can blub like mad!

Dorcas I had low lying placenta with both DDs and they had moved well in time.......with DD1 I had extra scans which was lovely even though you can't see much when they are bigger.

Glad the bump is out Clare Grin

Alba poor you that is horrible being pukey. I am sure baby will be absolutely fine but make sure you drink lots and don't get dehydrated. Call your MW if you are worried though hun wont you? x

Pengiun Grin at your bump - maybe you could wear a trendy scarf now it is getting a tad chilly?

Right MUST put some washing on and do some housework...................Mwah Mwah!! (I feel in a better mood now :) ) xx

twin skin is the VERY stretched skin left behind (although I know you can get this with just one), Bio oil is my new best friend. Magicsis ok thanks, she is 32 weeks today and back on antibiotics, fingers crossed he hangs in there a few more weeks.

(I did put some washing on BTW!)

HappyGirl1 · 15/09/2010 10:40

Morning All!

Loopy absolutely delighted to hear your good news.. that's just fab.. here's to an uneventful pregnancy now

Dorcas really glad to hear your scan went well also.

Unbuffy how are u doing today? Not being able to have carbs must be so tough, I literally live on carbs when pregnant (I know I shouldn't have as much though but I can't help it!).

I'm just shattered here, sorry for the low name check. Just so so tired, sleep is stressful at the minute cos having really awful dreams and i wake up panting. Got 28 MW appt today so will be glad to get to ask her about that random contraction on Sunday and hopefully she will do a heartbeat check also. Someone in work thought I hadn't grown much in the last 2 weeks so hopefully will measure okay too.

Unbuffy · 15/09/2010 11:10

Morning all!
Sun is shining, it's dh's birfday and he's off work (daft shift thingies), am trying to be all cheery and stoof! But have to go to Tescos intead... oh joy...

Loopy where in Devon are you? We're abot 15 min the right side (ie the OTHER) side of the border in the not-quite-so-mad land of sunnysomersetshire but I'm starting to think there's not a lot of difference, everyone's maaad doon here. Including us I think... The Brat Dog (all of them!) are Labs btw, whippets only happen in the norf!

Hope all well with everyone, must go and DO stuff, actually got a bit of sleep last night Shock so a bit of energy will help - might get the kitchen a bit tidier perhaps?

Big box of Cadbury eclairs that i should not be eating (current weight loss notwithstanding) being passed around) and a nice piece of buttered toast for Alba, poor you that sounds really really nasty. I don't think you need to worry about Bump though at this stage, just yourself!

Amyboo with son Matthew James, 4.714kg (10lb3oz) born Tuesday 30th March 2010
Hoops with son Benjamin Scott, 7lb4oz born Friday 2nd April 2010
Memorylapse with daughter Olivia, born Friday 16th April 2010
Jacanne with daughter Lotta Eliza, 8lbs 5oz born 20th April 2010
Becky78 with son Thomas Christopher born 22nd May - 9lb 1oz
Meita with son Ianto born 23 August - 7lbs 4
Boodleboot with daughter Alice Elizabeth born 10 Sep - 8lbs 2

Alba I am still booked at Pembury but we are intending to just call Maidstone delivery suite when I go into labour. That said, I have resigned myself to the fact that I may end up at Pembury if I am induced or need an ambulance though because that?s where my consultant is based. I am hoping for another straightforward delivery and to be able to come home quickly. Sorry to hear that you have been sick. Lousy.

Boodle Congratulations! I just about remember your BFP and it?s lovely to hear that Alice has been born safe and sound, if not without a little bit of drama. I hope that you are getting on well, first few weeks can be both hellish and fabulous, often at the same time!

Happygirl I?ve had loads of patches where the time seemed to drag, mainly over the summer school holidays. I felt like I was almost 32 weeks for a month. Suddenly it?s all started to fly by again. I guess keeping busy makes the time move faster!

Buffy Glad you seems to be feeling better, it?s good to see you posting. You must be delighted to be several puppies lighter. I don?t know how you did it, I?m in awe a bit.

Dorcas Congratulations on your scan, I cried at all my scans until I started having them monthly. It?s so hard to believe that what you see on the screen will turn out to be a real baby. I am so focused on the birth that I haven ?t given enough though to the fact that there will be a baby living with us very soon!

Loopy I am delighted that your baby is ok. You must have been so terribly worried.

Viv I?m glad you are getting on alright, I never know what to say when people are thinking of reassurance scans. I wanted to have one but DH talked me out of it. He said that there was no reason to suppose that I wasn?t pregnant and to enjoy and celebrate it. That said I really understand why you would want to.

Magic Sorry to hear that you are feeling sick again. Both my nausea and exhaustion seem to be returning now at 35 weeks. Lovely. How are getting on with the idea of two new babies?

Sarahlou How are you?! It?s lovely to hear from you, I have missed finding out how you are getting on because we are at about the same stage. How is it going, are you well or have you had enough?

Sorry if I missed something really important out of the name check... I have stayed at home today as I've been getting more and more tired and just couldn't face going in to school. I've had a lovely day just doing very little and snoozing. I think that the baby is lower than she was on Friday when she was 2/5 palpable so am hopeful that she is fully engaged now. I know I'm a bit of an eejit and possibly setting myself up to look stupid, but I really feel like my baby will be born soon. She is low and I have been woken up by uncomfortable contractions for the last two nights. Only a couple each time but enough to remind me what labour feels like. Ouch. My cyst is still causing the same pain as before and am due to see the consultant on Tuesday. I am aiming to come away with a date for induction (possibly wishful thinking) should I not go into labour naturally. They were talking about 36 weeks but I'd like to hold off until 38 if I can. At the moment I am just managing the pain but it never goes away. On the whole though I still feel optimistic and am starting to think how much I will miss my lovely bump! Maternity leave due to start in two weeks, 35 weeks today. Love to all, SB x

clareanna · 15/09/2010 20:10

Oooh, sometimes it's just so nice to take your bra off isn't it?!

Alba- hope it's a temporary sickness and that you feel better soon x

Sam you're doing really well - not long now, I hope it flies by for you and im glad to hear you're getting some rest

magic grrrr hope the rage has found a good outlet!

Can't do big post as on phone, but waves to everyone else!!

Evening! back from emergency visit to my parents (some of you might have seen my manic thread about my poor step father's ruined back last week). He is still in absolute bloody agony, on insane quantities of drugs, but we have had to come home as am having a joint birthday party for DS and one of his friends on Friday and have to bake cake/snacks etc.

Arrived home to find massive tarantula on the bathroom wall (which meant crossing legs till DP arrived home at about 7:30pm) and a message from MW offering me booking in appointment on Friday morning (which will make party preparations interesting...). It'll be nice to be officially booked in, but I won't believe anything till I get a scan - I'm hoping she'll be able to give me my scan appointment, which is what happened last time, and I hope it's soon - can't believe I'm 12 weeks on Sat!

Have definite pregnancy bump and ginormoboobs - increasingly difficult to hide, particularly given visiting family on the weekend for DS's birthday, but hoping to keep the news under wraps till after scan, whenever that is.

Off to catch up now!

clareanna · 15/09/2010 20:21

Just popping in to catch up, feeling a little better as have eaten and it's stayed down. Yay!

MATB1, need to give to work by 25 weeks. I phoned and left a message for midwife who kindly wrote one for me and left it at GP reception. I wanted mine at 20 weeks, which is earliest it can be issued, to send to Southeastern to get permission to travel 1st class if no seats... use it rarely, but when I need to it's invaluable! Any other commuters, check train company maternity policies, it's a fabulous perk...

Afternoon all - Gosh it's quiet around here . Or have you moved house and not told me :( Blush

Hopefully It sounds miserable for you and your family at the moment - I hope things get better soon xx

Alba Glad you are not doing the pukey regime - and managing to keep stuff down.

Loopy How are you feeling - still grinning from ear to ear??

sam I hope the next few weeks pass quickly for you and you can update us on your arrival :)

All is quiet here. I was worried yesterday that I was a bit symptomless, but today I do feel queasy and someone hugged me earlier and my boobs protested loudly at being squashed. So I am a bit happier :)

Am still looking forward to my scan next week, but will be really really nervous. My DP lives abroad and we hoped he would be back sometime soon on a permenant basis - but has been told it will be next year. I am am not a happy hen.

Also DP told his boss that I was pregnant (in order to get back for the scan) and his boss laughed and said 'god how old are you??' - DP is 39. He was upset. And so am I. I want to kill said boss. Angry

Wave to all xx
