Hi all! No offence taken BB It does move quickly on there doesn't it! Lovely to hear all your ideas for names. Milly is a v pretty name but our niece is already a Milly.

I'm pretty settled on Elizabeth Anne or George Henry, but still to convince DH. Not that he has come up with any names at all. Told him that we can't just call it Baby forever!

Had our scan yesterday and didn't find out the sex, but all measurements were good and looked lovely. Got a great pic where baby is waving at us.

Hope all those feeling sicky are a bit better today and everyone is blooming!

RooBear · 28/05/2010 11:41

morning all, posted this on the other thread so apologies if you've read it! I want more clothes and don't know if I'm just being greedy or not! DH is ok about it, I'm trying to get long tops, jersey dresses and skirts with elastic waist bands so i can wear them for a long time after as well, if I throw a lot out of older stuff do you think I can justify it?! (I realise i'm trying justify it to myself )

Hevster · 28/05/2010 12:01

Well it doesn't rain in Hevster land, it pours....just got back from docs and DD has chicken pox - oh happy days!

RooBear all things "needed" when pregnant can be justified especially clothes!

Patsy glad scan went well

Dixiebell · 28/05/2010 13:29

Patsy - you could call it baby forever if you wanted; apparently in 2008, 10 people named their sons Baby and 11 used it for their daughters! (Btw - link for ONS top 2000 names is at www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/Product.asp?vlnk=15282 if anyone not seen.

I've just discovered the name Marlo for a boy, which I'm really liking as an alternative to Milo. DH said 'hmmm', but will work on him!

Jacksmybaby · 28/05/2010 13:36

Oh Hevster .

RooBear there are enough sh*t things about being pg that you can't change. Being miserable about not having any nice clothes (if you can afford to buy some) should not be one of them. I'm a big believer in doing little things to keep one's morale up during pg; one's mental wellbeing is crucial, so I think that is justification enough to treat yourself! (And besides think of all the money you are not spending on booze ).

Patsy good news re scan. Off to mine shortly so will report back later!!

PatsyIsPreggers · 28/05/2010 13:44

Thanks ladies.

Lol Dixie please don't tell DH he can call the baby Baby!

good luck Jacks! Roo I think you should buy def the clothes you want. We can't drink, we can't eat most nice food, what else are we to do when preg except shop?!

Oh no Hevster, is DS ok? and are you immune to chicken pox?

Jacksmybaby · 28/05/2010 16:27

Hello, back from scan and guess what?!!! Yet another...

GIRL!!!!!!

Scan was great. Very wriggly baby! Very helpful sonographer, he explained everything and pointed out all the different bits and pieces (all of which were in the right place and measuring fine)... much better than the 20wk scan with DS which was conducted mostly in silence!

Re the sex, sonographer said we can't be certain (which I know they always do)... he didn't state it quite as definitely as they did with DS, but we did see the 3 lines which I know is what they look for for a girl.

DH a bit disappointed which I am a bit about; still I think I would have been slightly disappointed if it was another boy, and I would have got over it v quickly so hopefully he will too.

Dixie re working on your DH with names - keep going on it! DH didn't like Ellie at first (too similar to the name of his psycho ex!!) but is coming round to it.

Well off to start daydreaming about pink stuff now!

Hevster · 28/05/2010 17:02

Jacks how exciting, reckon October is the month of the girl!. Am sure DH will be quite happy shortly, my DH was a bit at another girl but by the time he had been and come back from the gym he was buzzing with excitement. As for the pink - believe me there is no choice, everything comes in 1 shade of pink or another!

Hevster · 01/06/2010 05:25

hope you have all had a good bank holiday weekend.
been a little stressful here with DD and her chicken pox, although in herself she hasn't been too bad (millions of spots but quite active) it's been a nightmare unable to go anywhere apart from my own horse's field!
Very grateful they only get it once!!!!

Saartjie · 01/06/2010 12:52

KFW - ah so we have the same scan date! Exciting. Suddenly the days are moving very slowly whilst waiting for the 9th June to arrive. Can't help but worrying about the scan, just want everything to be alright with bubs. Obviously it will be very exciting to find out what it is but I am primarily looking forward to hearing that all is as it should.

Have felt flutters all weekend which is great. Also got to hear the heart beat again on Friday at Midwife's appointment which was amazing.

Hope everyone had a nice bank holiday weekend.

Saartjie · 01/06/2010 13:00

Oh forgor to ask something. I know we are not allowed to eat blue cheese or goats cheese (both of which I love). I've found a blue cheese and a goats cheese made with pasturised milk, do you think that I can eat those as they are pasturised? I have such cravings for cheese at the moment

Jacksmybaby · 01/06/2010 13:06

Hmm, Saartjie I would probably go with yes to the pasturised goat's cheese but no to the blue cheese - I think if it has mould on it that is not recommended.

Hope everyone enjoyed the BH weekend. We went to a friend's little girl's christening on Sunday, amazingly the weather was perfect just for those few hours on Sunday p.m. for a post-church garden party at their house.

Saartjie · 01/06/2010 13:12

Thanks Jacksmybaby and I guess you're right. I am getting so confused as to what I can and cannot eat and why. Still if I can at least eat the goats cheese then that should satisfy my cravings a bit. I can do without the alcohol and coffee but my soft cheeses I really really miss.

KFW · 01/06/2010 13:31

Saartjie I also LOVE soft cheese. I have had a little soft cheese (pasteurised), but I read the government recommendations and it seems to me that maybe we shouldnt eat them at all because it doesnt mention pasteurisation. It isnt that clear though I dont think. Link below.

That said, I am pretty sure that pregnant ladies in France and Italy eat them regularly so it's probably a bit of scare mongering. I have already planned my first meal post pregnancy: v v v rare steak with a large blob of blue cheese on top.

RooBear · 01/06/2010 14:30

hi everyone, had the scan this morning and everything seems healthy! we resisted finding out the sex as well so still unknown! hope all is well x

Jacksmybaby · 01/06/2010 14:32

I agree that the risk is probably non-existent BUT I think I would worry if I did eat something not recommended and the worry would probably do more harm than the food itself! That said I did have some chicken liver pate earlier on in pg .

Saartjie · 01/06/2010 14:42

KFW That's funny. My first meal after pregnancy is exactly the same as yours with a huge glass of red wine on the side.

I have just read up on the cheese bit and it seems to say that you can eat most cheeses even not pasturised ones as long as they are thoroughly heated up. So melted pasturised goats cheese should be fine.

I agree with Jacksmybaby though and would rather be safe than sorry. I have therefore decided to leave the goats cheese alone until after next weeks scan. I can then double check with the midwife. If she says no then I wont have it. Roll on October I say!!

Jacksmybaby · 01/06/2010 14:49

Hello RooBear just seen yr post! Must have been a x-post with mine! That's great news re scan.

MummyBeth · 02/06/2010 10:28

Oh you're all so good - I have had a couple of little 'slips' and told myself that it's just about minimising risk.

Have my 20 week scan today looking forward to seeing some more piccies and hearing that all is ok.

mamjo · 02/06/2010 13:05

Good luck mummybeth!!!

My scan is next Monday and I can't wait! I just want to see "it" moving as I am still unsure about what I am feeling.

I had a couple of glasses of champagne on Saturday at a wedding and it was lovely!! (reception at 2 and toast at 7) I may need to find more reasons to celebrate in the next few weeks so I can indulge again.

Dixiebell · 02/06/2010 13:18

I went on hols to Italy a few weeks back, stayed in a family-run hotel where they cooked a (delicious!) dinner every night, but no menu to select from. So gave them a list of everything I couldn't eat beforehand. Then there were two other couples there at the same time, not British, and both women were pregnant, and eating everything, drinking wine in the evening...! I felt like I was being a very fussy Brit! They were very nice about it to be fair, but a few occasions (cured fish...) where I had to smuggle some of the courses onto DH's plate!

I am looking forward to parma ham. And sushi. And beer in the sunshine....

Saartjie · 02/06/2010 13:40

MummyBeth glad to hear that you have also had a couple of slips Also good luck on your scan today. I am very jealous, mine is on Wednesday next week and it feels like it is a year away.

Now to a bit of ranting...My usual train to work was cancelled yesterday morning so had to take the next train which of course was completely packed. It was so packed in fact that I could not get even close to the seats so I gave up and decided to keep standing. A lady got on at the next station and when she saw me she shouted down the carriage 'there is a pregnant lady standing up can someone offer their seat please'. She shouted this twice and I got slightly embarrassed although very grateful as I was really uncomfortable standing. Not one single person offered me their seat. Now I fully understand that if one does not ask one does not get but I think the lady had made it perfectly clear and people were just ignoring it. Needless to say I had to stand all the way to London Liverpool Street (1 hour). I have only started looking quite pregnant in the last couple of weeks so this is all new to me but is this really how it is? Does anyone else have any good bad experiences. Enough ranting from me for now

Jacksmybaby · 02/06/2010 14:18

Saartjie, have not really been going into work for last couple of mths so not sure what it would be like on my line (would be very unusual not to get a seat in any case unless as you say there had been a cancellation) but last pg I lived in London and travelled to work on the tube which was HIDEOUS; you used to have to push and shove just to get on the train let alone get a seat, and I never got offered one because it was all so crowded that no-one (at least no-one sitting down) had a chance of seeing that I was pg.

I would bet that even though you think you look very pg, it's not all that obvious yet to people that don't know you and that usually not getting offered a seat would be largely down to people being terrified of making a faux pas in case you're not! Slightly that everyone still ignored you after the lady had shouted out, maybe they were worried she had made a mistake esp if you were looking embarrassed!

KFW · 02/06/2010 15:23

Saartjie you poor thing. An hour standing on the train sounds like hell and I cant believe no one was shamed into getting up!

The vast majority of the time recently I have been offered a seat on the tube. I have deliberately taken my coat off and made no attempt to suck my tummy in and it seems to have worked.

I think you were just very unlucky. Most people seem to be pretty good. (Apart from teenagers sitting in priority seats with their ipods on. But then being a teenager is far worse than being pregnant in my view so I let them off!)

And here's a positive thought: isnt it better being big (or growing) in summer rather than winter when we would have to be all bundled up? At least this way we are able to wear floaty roomy things. I can personally get away without a suit in summer and that would NOT be an option in my office for winter, which would make travel even more uncomfy.

Here's bringing some nice friendly vibes to people travelling to Liverpool St. I hope they treat you better tomorrow.

Saartjie · 02/06/2010 15:54

Jacksmybaby I think I was just upset that everyone completely ignored the request. Also I've been told I look pregnant AND I am wearing the 'baby on board' London Underground badge which should signal to most that I am pregnant and not just fat Anyway, next time I want to sit I think I will just ask myself and see what happens. I might just be pleasantly surprised.

KFW I agree it is lovely not to have to wear a suit in summer. I am a lawyer so a suit is a must unless you have a good reason, pregnancy being one of those reasons.

Got a seat this morning so no complaints today. Oh and the sun is shining which is lovely!
