BabyB and Hevester - I think you are so right about the travel system - which is why we didn't want to buy a really expensive one too. That said DH "really likes the idea of being able to keep the baby in the car seat for short trips and apparantly all 4 of our children will get use from it so even if each child only uses it for 6 months that still 2 years worth of use - eek!!!

Jacksmybaby · 28/06/2010 21:43

Our travel system had been ditched by 3 months too for a maclaren triumph (this is the one everyone has!). You need to get one that reclines if you want to use it from 3 months (we also have a volo which is the lightest one but didn't realise it didn't recline, not great for napping in!). Some maclarens (I think the techno xt) can be used from birth as they recline completely flat.

Re NCT we did it and it it would have been great but as it turned out I only made it to a couple of classes before DS arrived (at 35 wks) AND we knew we were planning to move away from the area (which we did when DS was 6mths) so it didn't really work out for me in terms of long term friendships, would have done though if things had been different and loads of my friends are now very close to their NCT mummy friends.

Not had a great day today, nearly fainted in the post office, it was boiling hot in there and was standing in the queue with DS, suddenly felt very hot, sick, dizzy and faint and started sweating like mad. Think it was just the heat but I haven't felt quite right since. Luckily seeing MW tomorrow anyway for 25 week check so will get BP checked then and ask her about it. Anyone else been getting dizzy spells in this heat?

babyb rubbish about your boss sitting right behind you, that would make me v paranoid!!

Hevster · 28/06/2010 22:15

Jacks that sounds horrible, hope u feel better after a nights kip and hope midwife is reasuring and helpful.
We have techno xt and it goes flat from birth, is best bit of kit I have purchased for DD although not cheap.

Off to do battle with midwife in the morning, am determined to make her update my notes and tick the hyperemesis box....

MummyBeth · 29/06/2010 21:56

I'm at the midwife tomorrow too - not really sure what to expect though. Blood, urine and blood pressure I'm guessing?

Take care of yourself Jacks the heat had been getting to me a bit but I've taken to having a nap each day at about 5pm - not always possible - but I think it has helped as am feeling great this week!

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 30/06/2010 09:53

Hi all...

About travel systems,

A lot of you say you ditch them after 3 months, we have bought a bugaboo chameleon and people tell me they last for absolutely ages... is this not the case?

xx

Jacksmybaby · 30/06/2010 10:26

MB, thanks. Is it your 25 week check with MW? I had this yesterday. BP, fundal height, baby's heartbeat, general poke of the tummy, wee test. And questions about how I was feeling. Also got form for HIP grant and MATB1 form for work.

anythingwith... they can last ages if you want them to. It's just that a maclaren is so much lighter and easier to fold, get in the car etc.

MummyBeth · 30/06/2010 13:33

Thanks Jacks - that's exacly what happened - I was in and out in about 10 mins which I always see as a good thing. You could see the baby kicking out like mad which was fun.

Any... I think it tends to be the case but everyone is different. People I know who bought a Maclaren did so initally for air travel and then just continued to use it. Don't let this put you off though - enjoy your pram and get excited about it!

TizzyNo1 · 30/06/2010 13:40

Hello all, Sorry to hear some of you are suffering in the warm weather. Good to see comments re Maclaren - am going to go for XLR I think, as can use with a car seat and from birth. Want to use mainly sling if poss tho. Has anyone been thinking of using real nappies? We are but not sure which to try out...any tips gratefully received! ...oh, the things which occupy our minds nowadays eh! !

Saartjie · 30/06/2010 14:11

Hi all,

Well I had just recovered from my chest infection, took last penicillin on Monday only to wake up with a soar throat and fever again today. Seems like my body is weaker than I thought. Getting pretty bored of this. Was so looking forwad to working from home but I have been ill ever since I started doing this. Feeling mighty sorry for myself.

The heat is not helping either although as everyone keeps reminding me every bloody second, I should get used to it considering I will be in Africa in less than two months.

By the way does anyone know if one can eat Strepsile (not sure how to spell it) for soar throats when pregnant?

I am thinking of going shopping this weekend for some baby clothes, hoping this will cheer me up a bit. I get a bit jealous when I hear all of you talking about your prams etc as I am not allowed to buy anything at the moment due to the move. Still I will get some clothes I think to get me started.

Baby girl is still kicking lots and lots and I love watching my belly move.

How is everyone else?

RooBear · 30/06/2010 15:06

Hi everyone, its been a while since I've commented! Really starting to feel kicks now its very exciting! I've got my MW appt next monday to look forward to (seems strange to look forward to a doctors/hospital appt!)I took strepsils for a sore throat last fortnight saartjie. Is anyone elses boobs still growing? I was telling the girls on the other thread how I was raising morale at work by wearing summer dresses with my new found curves(I work on a army base!).

Hevster · 30/06/2010 15:34

anythingwitha my best mate has a bugaboo Chameleon and a lightweight maclaren, she still uses the bugaboo loads just not when she is taking the car.
Tizzy we are going down the real nappy route, although I didn't last time and I won't until she is about 6 weeks and I am in the swing of 'normal' life with 2 DD's. we are going for the Bambino Mio as my friend uses them and says they are great middle of the road option (price, ease of use and drying time)
saartjie sorry you have been rough for so long, how miserable for you, hope you are feeling better soon.

I have an apt with the consultant tomorrow so am currently trying to put my case together for an elective c-section which is stressing me a bit but such is life.

Roo always good to boost morale!

MummyBeth · 30/06/2010 16:16

Tizzy We're also planning on going down the reusable nappy route - expensive at the start but I think better for the environment esp if you use environmentally friendly washing powder! We're also planning on using disposables for the first few weeks while we get our heads round other things like feeding and routine. Hevster I think those arethe ones we will use - they have come highly recommended from other folk too Good luck with the case - It's such a shame that we have to arm ourselves like that to get what we want - surely a non-stressed mother is as important as a natural birth?

Roo Don't get me started on boobs - yes they are still growing - was in Bravissimo earlier in the week and they can't help me - I am wearing sports bras that are a bit like crop tops at the moment as I'm worried about underwire in an ill-fitting bra. DH LOVES it though - I can barely get him to look at my face!!

Feel better Saartjie and when you are feeling poorly have a bit of chocolate and watch your beautiful new baby girl do the boogaloo in your belly.

babybunting2010 · 30/06/2010 17:27

Hi All, Having to catch up on posts whilst boss bot looking which isn't easy!

Boobs were pretty massive before and don't seem to have grown too much but am still a couple of sizes bigger.

Am going to have a look into a buggy system for when I have got tired of lugging around the travel system. Might drag DH to have a look at the weekend

Saartjie- sorry you are having such a rough time again hun. Hope you feel better soon!

Re the reusable nappies, we did look into this and it's still something I would like to consider but I get really confused. I feel a little under pressure as well as my sister has set up a whole website on it all, there is a forum on there of women who use them etc.... Go have a look if you want some more ideas etc... www.clothnappytree.com Hope it helps!

Today has really really dragged! I am so ready to go home!
xx

DillyDora · 30/06/2010 18:01

Hi All, too hot to have anything sensible to say, work is pretty busy and stressful and I am soooo tired but just wanted to say, variously,
Hello!
Get well soon Saartjie Hevster interesting article re c-sections in the Times today re c-sections
Boobs...I don't think they're growing but they are very veiny...eeeuw!
Nappies - I want to go to one of these Nappycino events (sp?) to learn all about them
Buggies - still can't bring my mind to bear...
I'm useless, me!
Lots of love to all (oooh, so not MN!)

babybunting2010 · 01/07/2010 09:27

Tizzy, Hevster and MummyB and anyone else interested in real nappies, I posted on Cloth Nappy Tree last night saying how much cloth nappies were confusing me with the options and got a fab response from one of the ladies that did loads of research on them all and now runs a website. She has said if any of us would like she can pop onto this thread to answer any questions... would this be of any help to anyone or am I sticking my ore in where no one wants it?

Dilly... I know what you mean about not having anything sensible to say but keep your chin up hun and don't get too stressed at work!

Roo... LOL at the poor army men wandering round with you showing off the curves, maybe we should send more curvilicious ladies to army bases to keep morale up! I think it's a fab idea!

xxx

MummyBeth · 01/07/2010 12:45

Babybunting that sounds fab - what's the website - I love it when other people do the research and just tell me what the score is!

Also I'd totally be up for going to the army base to keep up morale - all those lovely soldiers - just give us a few months to get the old tumy back in shape and think of a way of telling the hubby

Hideous heartburn last night - sleeping in a sitting up position helped but it's back today. Brandy balls to the rescue ... again!

KFW · 01/07/2010 15:26

hello ladies

Am I the only one whose firm is so environmentally unfriendly that we have a ridiculous amount of air conditioning? I feel sill for complaining, but I am a bit too cold at my desk. If I wear something to be not too hot on the tube, I then spend all day wanting to be wrapped up.
Ho hum. We pregnant ladies are never happy

Boobs: I think mine have had a wee growth spurt again. My ribcage has expanded too because my new bras are already tight under the boob

Nappies: I am so not thinking about them yet However, I prefer the idea of reusables. I think I might start with disposables to keep work load down and then try reusables once I have got the hang of it all a bit.

Buggies: ordered our mountain buggy and paid a deposit but not picking it up until about 35 wks.

I am going to a marketing event at Henley tomorrow. Just me and a load of accountants/other lawyers. I think it's just a drinking fest isnt it? And I am going to be the only girl. Oh joy.

Hevster · 01/07/2010 15:39

babyb great idea to get the lady to answer questions, will have to get my brain in order to think of the questions i need answers to!

Saartjie · 01/07/2010 18:33

Afternoon all,

Feeling heaps better today. Back in the land of the living so to speak.

I love that so many of you are going to give reusables a go, I am not sure if I will do so or not. I think I will wait until I see our new house and the washing fascilities until I commmit to anything.

Feels like time is dragging at the moment. Anyone else feel like week 20 to 25 seems endless. I am now 23 weeks and my MW appointment at 25 weeks seems like a life time away.

I just realised that I am moaning again. Seems like that is all I do these days. Think my illness and the stress of our move is getting to me a bit. Need to cheer up for sure.

KFW I used to hate marketing events with the firm. All men and too much alcohol. Still you can parade your bump around, that usually makes the men all nervous and polite

YummyMummy1208 · 01/07/2010 20:13

Hello Ladies,

just been catching up on the post as i havent checked this one for a while!

I am having a bad week,. My brain seems to have disappeared which is not good as the main part of my job role is producing databases for promotions and i already cocked 2 up this week! I am getting serious baby brain, is anyone else getting this? its like im just doing stupid things and making silly mistakes i havent yet made in the whole year iv been there!
And my poor OH is totally getting it this week, hormones are raging and they are making me just want to punch his lights out as soon as i see him. (slight giggle). There is no way out for him, whatever he does he stil gets it in the neck but to be fair he is taking it all pretty well and has tollerated me far too nicely this week. I am making him a baby tho so he deserves a little bit of earache surely??

i would say im looking forward to my next check up (28 weeks) on 3rd of August but im not as i have the dreaded blood tests to do. i am such a needle phobe its unreal. altho i cant wait to hear baby's heart beat again so will just think of that.

is anyone else a hormonal wreck this week??

Hevster · 01/07/2010 21:39

Yes,I am a complete hormonal wreck this week - it's totally out of character for me and I find I am either ranting at someone or bursting into tears (I don't do tears!) i seem to have everything out of proportion and am driving myself mad - really hope I can get a grip v soon and Yummymummy hope your hormones calm down soon too

TizzyNo1 · 01/07/2010 23:12

Hi babybunting, thanks for that sounds great! Will also check out website- ta for tips! X

DillyDora · 02/07/2010 10:37

Hi All, I've been really hormonal too. The heat doesn't help (for Uk dwellers!). Sorry about the mistakes at work yummymummy that must feel horrid when you know it's so not 'you'.

Errr..I don't know if this will help or it's just TMI but I really needed to feel close to DH and was in such a grump with him but found a ..ahem...sh*g to be most helpful. It's not that I'm all horny, I'm just all...irritated and let's face it, blokes always solve that by a quick one and so I thought I'd try it. It's helped no end, we're even going to look at buggies this evening before going on a date with each other Worth a try?!!

Now I'm a bit for suggesting that and will go and bake a coffee and walnut cake (which is the other cure for feeling hormonal!)

Yes Saartjie these weeks do seem endless and I panic periodically about getting bigger, I think the heat makes the worry worse.

YummyMummy1208 · 02/07/2010 10:55

well the thing is DillyDora OH doesnt want to continue our sex life until after baby is here...he finds it 'wrong' to have sex with a baby inside of me... he knows he wont hurt the baby but think he sees it as the baby will be there as part of me when were doing the 'act'!
Does anyone elses partners feel this way or is it just mine? We havent had sex for at least 2 months now. :-( last time we did it was like he wasnt there, he totally didnt enjoy it cos he was thinking about the baby the whole time.
not quite sure how to cure that one!

DillyDora · 02/07/2010 11:13

Oh nooooooooo Yummy I have heard of that, my Dad was the same apparently (o my, the things people share) O that's such a shame, I'm really sorry. Anyone got any clever ideas? (Apart from all the other things you could do that don't involve penetration? Sorry if I'm crossing a line!)

I remember when people were posting on this thread or the other october one about feeling super horny and I never got that and felt most hard done by!
