How dare you babybunting I am very busy and important

DillyDora · 15/06/2010 18:01

Cheers Jazzie for the support. I got so wound up about it last year that I nearly ended up not marrying DH (his ex was making trouble over the wedding) and I am determined not to let that level of upset happen again, especially when the stress can affect little Toby Joe, that doesn't seem right at all, it's not his fault. I just have days when I'm less ok, and Monday was one of them but DH is brilliant and on the whole it's fine. I have suggested he take his DSs camping to give her a break from them, and the ex said 'well, if DillyDora's going they won't want to go' and i thought - ha ha foolish woman what are you thinking of?! I have no intention of going, I shall be at home with a box of biscuits and a box set of Grey's Anatomy while they're being manly men under canvas!! Hee hee

MummyBeth · 15/06/2010 20:30

My goodness you are all so busy!

I have bought nothing yet can't decide on a pram / nursery furniture and don't know what it is so will just buy a few really neutral things and then let the grandmothers go mad when LO appears!

I am now a big fat mama and loooovveee it - I always hated being skinny (about 48kg - never more than 50 - no matter how hard I tried) but I now weigh 60KG The MW says this is fine and I am really really hoping I can keep some of the weight on afterwards.

RE Bra's I am going to have to go for another fitting - my 30H hammocks are not sitting flat against my body - I may cry as I'm not sure I can get bigger cups in this back size

On a positive note - Sudocream is working on my ridiculous neck acne! YEAH

Sorry for the long post but just thought I'd let you know I was still following if not quite keeping up.

By the way what prams are people getting - I'm terrified of getting the 'wrong' one as they are so expensive. My parents want to buy it so I feel even more pressure to get it right - such a generous gift I don't want to waste it!

I?ve had a crappy evening, long story short, SIL has been trying for a baby for about 10 years on and off (Had 2 long term partners who she has tried with) anyway she finally fell pregnant at the same time as me but had a mis carriage, which was devastating enough! Anyway she caught again in April which was just amazing as she had never caught before and then twice in a few months! PIL live in Greece (They retired out there a few years ago! Free holidays it?s fab!) SIL went over last week she was 10 weeks on Saturday. She had some slight bleeding yesterday and eventually went to the hospital to be on the safe side, only to find out that the baby had died. She is having to have a D&C today over in Greece.

Sorry for such a long story but I feel so awful and guilty, I know I shouldn?t feel guilty but I would do anything for her not to have to go through all of this and it all went so easily and nicely for me. I am a pretty selfless person, put everybody in front of myself (Not blowing my own trumpet or anything) and it?s killing me that she is hurting so much and going through so much pain! I just hate it!

Mummybeth, Glad all going well! We've bought loads now am impressed that you are so refrained!

Jacksmybaby · 16/06/2010 11:26

Oh no BB, I'm really sorry, your poor SIL . I know I would feel guilty too but you have to try not to. xx

babybunting2010 · 16/06/2010 12:24

Thanks Jacks! Can't help readinig into things. Just had a text from FIL which finished by saying it seems so unfair! Hoping he doesn't mean why was it so easy for DH and I and not for SIL and her DH!

She's just had her D&C and has been told she is safe to fly back tomorrow. so at least she will be home!

Sorry for being on a downer today guys!

Mummybeth- re the prams etc... we actually bought a second hand travel system which is a Silver Cross (RRP £300 got it for £100 and looks brand new) But think we were quite lucky though. Only went second hand as heard that you tend to swap the bulky travel systems for lighter push chairs when the baby is a bit older.

RooBear · 16/06/2010 12:25

thats rubbish BB my sister has been trying for nearly 2 years and we fell within 3 months, nowhere near as bad but I understand the guilt thing x x

RooBear · 16/06/2010 12:26

x-posts I would say your FIL meant for her to miscarriage twice, not you and your D x

DillyDora · 16/06/2010 12:35

BB I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL . And I'm sure your FIL didn't mean anything untoward. So sorry Lovely but as the others say - try not to feel guilty, it's not going to help anyone. Big thoughts and hugs to your SIL.

Hevster · 16/06/2010 14:25

BB thats really rough news, sorry.
MummyB prams and buggys are a mine field, we now have 3. The best thing I reckon to do is go to one of the big stores and push them around so you make sure you get something at the right height, that you like the look of, that you can mange to sling in the car weight wise etc. Also unless you are planning another baby really soon don't waste cash buying something that goes double specifically as we have a Phil & Ted and it doesn't work with a tall 2.8 year old and a baby, that said it's been brilliant and I would buy it again as it suits my lifestyle.

KFW · 16/06/2010 14:38

babyb your poor SIL.

mummyb re prams, have you thought of looking on which.com? They have a promotion at the moment which means £1 for a month. The subscription is usually £10 a month. I have signed up for it and am basically printing off every single analysis - they have cots, car seats, pushchairs, baby monitors, you name it. It might help show you what's out there and the pros and cons etc. I have found it useful. Not that we have made any decisions yet, but we have narrowed it down.

babybunting2010 · 16/06/2010 16:59

Thanks all! Just ready to go home and get into bed today! Have got a mega sore throat and cold coming I think! Ready for a cup of tea and a !

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 16/06/2010 17:43

Babybunting I'm so sorry

MummyBeth - I've thought of nothing but prams! We're going to buy a bugaboo chameleon, but can't decide wether to get a pink or red accent colour... DH not wanting pink at all, and me suddenly wanting everything pink now that three different scans have told us its a girl

You are all very restrained! I've bought sooooo much... all the nursery furniture came today as well...

MummyBeth · 17/06/2010 09:12

Oh BB Such awful news - I'm sure knowing that your SIL is going through that when she's so far away is making it harder as you can't even give her a big hug. Not feeling guilty is of course easier said than done and I'm guessing your FIL meant that it was unfair as people who would make / are wonderful parents have to to through this but there are drug addicts etc. who seem to have no issues. Breaks your heart. My friend lost her wee baby to cancer earlier this year ony a few short weeks after her 1st birthday - I was torn up with guilt about this baby but you can't feel like that - my dad says i have to think positive all the time as my feelings will be influencing the child's personality - I think this one is going to be a comedian as I seem to laugh a lot more!

MummyBeth · 17/06/2010 09:18

Oh and forgot to say thanks for the pram chat - My SIL has the Bugaboo and i think it's nice but I would totally want the exact same colours as her so think I'll go for something else to be a bit more original - i'm thinking either icandy apple or cherry or the Mama's and Papa's ultima - DH is insisting on isofix and everything has to be brand new - I saw lovely 2nd hand bedroom furniture on Gumtree at a fraction of the price of the stuff he wants- but what can you do - he wants it to last - wait for it - through all 4 !!!!! Then again we do have a good bargain - he pays I choose

Groan - have such horrid hayfever...is anyone taking Loratidine (the non-drowsy hayfever one). The pharmacist said I shouldn't, and should talk to my gp.... but looking it up I can't find anything to suggest it's dangerous. Any thoughts?

JazzieJeff · 17/06/2010 14:55

Hiya Dilly, sorry you're suffering... I feel your pain, my throat and eyes are so itchy. Apparently hayfever drugs aren't recommended because they haven't been tested. The pharmacist also said I shouldn't have Lemsip when I had a cold a few months back; also wouldn't sell me non-drowsy cough medicine. They have to protect themselves, so I'd just call your midwife. How are your DSS's? Any better? You're right about their mother, she does sound like an odd one... what young lad wouldn't want to go camping? More importantly, why on earth would you want to join them at nearly six months pregnant?! Errr....

BB; so sorry to hear about your SIL, really hope she'll be ok. I'm sure your FIL didn't mean anything by his text, he probably didn't think.

Pram chat.... I just went out with DH and bought the Bugaboo Chameleon. I desparately wanted an iCandy, but I just couldn't collapse the thing, no matter how hard I tried. You've got to have the knack of doing it, something I can see myself losing patience with when trying to get a sobbing little boy out of the car and into his pram in the sideways rain in the middle of winter. It was also chunkier than I thought it would be with the carrycot attachment on it. But I looked at the apple jogger, there are plenty of other ones they do. I liked that the bugaboo felt strong, was dead easy to fold down and put up and fits in my little car really well. I also loved how cosy the footmuff looked, soooo cute How expensive are prams though?! I swear down, for the amount of cash we parted with I could probably buy a crap car.

Jacksmybaby · 17/06/2010 14:59

Dilly - NHS guidance says its ok but also says that it should be prescribed by a doc. Pharmacists are rubbish for giving you anything at all during pg (as are a lot of GPs actually). I had a pharmacist refuse to give me cough medicine as it contained alcohol!! (I mean how much alcohol could a spoon of cough medicine actually contain?!!! Grr... ). Anyway... might be worth getting a GP appointment to see if they will prescribe it for you.

I never usually get hayfever but seem to get it in pg (my MIL said this also happened to her). Weird...

DillyDora · 17/06/2010 15:31

Thanks Jacks I will see the GP, love that about the cough medicine!! V funny. I've never had it before either, I have other allergies but not this one!

Thanks Jazzie no news from the DSS's, their mother has said she'll arrange dates with DH so ... I shall leave it at that...

Good news on the pram front all... I am still in denial...

xx

Hevster · 17/06/2010 15:52

Dilly I tok piriton last time on prescription from GP, she was quite happy that it was safe and I haven't seen any ill effects in DD.

DillyDora · 17/06/2010 15:54

Cheers Hevster piriton makes me pass out, and I mean, I could do with a nap but I have to work! I'll see what the doc-o reckons... a holiday in Mauritius might work....

JazzieJeff · 17/06/2010 16:00

Will 5 o clock never come??? The minutes are crawling by until home-time

Jacksmybaby; I didn't think I got hayfever until yesterday! Can it just happen during pregnancy? My poor nose is so itchy.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 17/06/2010 16:09

I don't know if its a bit mind over matter but my husband sits over a bowl of steam sometimes for hayfever and he swears it helps...

I'm a bit dubious but might be worth a go?

JazzieJeff - what colour did you go for? i'm having an all out war about it with DH... I really want pink but he can't be convinced... thinks he'll hate walking her on his own...

hmmmmm

Re Hayfever - My DH and sister are terrible with it from April through September. Anyway, they both have Filtrete air purifiers in their bedroom and say it makes a real difference - I put it on about 6pm full blast and then down on the lowest setting over night - really quiet no issues sleeping with it. Highly recommended - the other trick that my sis uses is to put a bit of vaseline around her nostrils - it's supposed to catch the pollen before it goes in.

Loving the weather although my feet are like balloons and I think I may have sciatica (spelling - eek).

Also am being inspected in a months time - stress!!!

Jacksmybaby · 17/06/2010 18:51

MB I have sciatica too, it's rubbish isn't it. So far (fingers crossed) this pg it hasn't been as bad as last time, just annoying more than anything and makes me feel like an old woman! Last pg there were a few days when I actually couldn't get out of bed and DH had to carry me to the toilet! The advice I got last time from my consultant was to keep moving as much as you can, don't rest it or it will seize up even more. I was also prescribed ibuprofen for it, so see your GP if it gets really bad.
