Perineal massage - what to do???

Hi,

I have heard lots about the benefits of perineal massage, but am really flummoxed by the various instructions that I have found on the internet!
I don't have a clue what to do - can anyone give me any advice so that I don't pummel away with no effect?!

I couldn't bring myself to do it last time. I thought I would take the risk. I ended up tearing and also had episiotomy so maybe more fool me but I had an epidural so couldn't feel any of that anyway.

Still can't bring myself to do it this time...

I tried PM last night for the first time, and used Almond Oil. Woke up with itchy itchy bits! Anyone else had this?
