Girl names - again!

I'm expecting a baby girl and have started putting together a list of possible names. Unfortunately, nothing is really jumping out at me right now and I would love some input from all you Mumsnetters!

We tend to like quite traditional names - Beatrice and Maud are on our list - but I'm open to anything as long as it isn't too popular or trendy. Can you guys help me?!

Marina, very interesting! Amelia and Matilda were big on our list so good to know if they're going to be everywhere in Blackheath. Do you think Sally would be plain enough? I've always really liked that name too. Traditional, but not heard very often.

Zingibear, I love Capability but DH just laughed when I suggested it!

Also I think more of a man's name (Capability brown) but who can tell?!

Marissa?

tex111 · 28/06/2005 11:30

BEKS, much better than what my parents call me. They named me Katherine JoAnn so that if I married a prince I could be Princess Katherine and if I married a cowboy I could be Kathy Jo. They call me Tater - as in a potato. Nice.

Tex lol, nothing like looking ahead and having high aspirations for you!

Katherine is high on my list but with a surname starting with K I'm just worried about what would happen if she had a stutter!

popsycal · 28/06/2005 11:37

ds2 would have been martha - that fits your criteria...

popsycal · 28/06/2005 11:45

love ellen, lily, ruby

rodeo1 · 28/06/2005 12:17

I have an an Aunty Ellen, Aunty Anna, Aunty Margaret, and an Aunty Dorcas!!

Great Aunts - Rene, Ivy, Ede, Peggy and Sis (but I think they just call her sis because she's my grandad's sister!)

Grandmas are Alice Beatrice and Catherine Mary.

triceratops · 28/06/2005 12:41

I had a great aunt Honoria and my nana is called Betty. My othere grandma was always known as Moon although her name was actually Muriel.

I liked Fern but it wouldn't do with our surname.

triceratops · 28/06/2005 12:42

My mum always calls me Blossom which would be more endearing if it weren't the name she always gives to her favorite cow.

[thread hijack] Just thought of a great way to ensure you get the name you want when you are having a hard time agreeing: tell h or p that he can select the name froma shortlist of six, then present him with thsi list:
Spongebob Squarepants
Adolf
[name you want]
Shark
Gervase
Buzz Lightyear

tex111 · 28/06/2005 13:56

GofN, I actually emailed DH this morning and said I had found a name less contentious than Maud - Osama.

Like names like these: Kayla, Keela, Kiera, Kalin or Riahannon, Brooke, and Emma.

Hi tex,

I'm due 4th Dec. Glad you remember me and don't just think I'm a crazy lady!!!

I shall be having a proper read through this thread when I've time so I can pinch some name ideas

acnebride · 28/06/2005 15:13

My mum is Josephine and a very lovely great aunt was Edith so it's great to see those in a list.

Dorothea, Alice?

Alison seems a bit 'out' at the moment but I have always thought it is lovely.

Desiree?? (following on from Tater )

BEKsmum · 28/06/2005 15:53

Acnebride does that mean Tex should have called her son Edward as in king!

Gem13 · 28/06/2005 16:17

What about going with Elizabeth but calling her Betsy?

I love Betsy. It would work in the States too.

FIMAC1 · 28/06/2005 22:11

Claudia?

Dd has had loads of compliments on her name here and when we lived in the US - still unusual enough in the UK for her not to be able to get anything with her name on!

tessasmum · 29/06/2005 12:15

No mention of Tessa yet but then I'm biased! Haven't found anyone little with the same name (though have come across 2 friends mother's and a dog!!)
