I'm expecting a baby girl and have started putting together a list of possible names. Unfortunately, nothing is really jumping out at me right now and I would love some input from all you Mumsnetters!

We tend to like quite traditional names - Beatrice and Maud are on our list - but I'm open to anything as long as it isn't too popular or trendy. Can you guys help me?!

Oh my, she is delicious in the extreme. And I really, really, really love her name. Slightly concerned about the popularising effect of the the cool and up and coming young artist with same name, but it could be worse, it could be a Big Brother contestant.
Hasn't turned up on this thread yet...

(and I meant to say it would be different in Texas, not difficult - sorry)

Enid · 27/06/2005 19:16

does the cool artist have the surname Brown?

PrincessPeaHead · 27/06/2005 19:18

oh dear I'm clearly neither cool nor up and coming since I'm not aware of anyone of that name, sigh....

Enid, I was recently put off Romilly by hearing a rather strident 20 yr old with an essex facelift hairdo and a very fruity east end accent hollering to her children down a train corridor.... "Oi! Romilly and Romeo, I said GET BACK HERE!"
Quite liked it before then!

aloha · 27/06/2005 19:18

Shhhhhhhhhhh!
They'll all want one

PrincessPeaHead · 27/06/2005 19:22

Enid-saddened to think that you think your neice has a boring name.

CountessDracula · 27/06/2005 20:29

PPH what are you going to call your new one then?

Not much to add to this except that my dog is called Ruby so I always think it a silly name for a child

There was a Mabel in our playground the other day, I felt rather sad for her as it is such an ugly name. A bit like Doris.

my goddaughter is called millicent, which really like and she seems to be unique in her name - lots of millie's, but no one else called millicent.

Harriett · 27/06/2005 20:50

hey Enid- less of the 'really boring plain english' in regards to Harriett!
although mine is spelt the welsh way with two t's- very distinguished, don't you think?!!!
I am also having a little girl in a few weeks and have chosen a name (top secret) but I have also had Ruby, Ella, Olivia and Beatrice on my short list. I loved Olivia but my sister has it as her fantasy baby so was not allowed!

mrsdarcy · 27/06/2005 21:21

Hi Harriett - your name is on my shortlist (but with 1 "t"), and I also love Beatrice! I really like Flora but the margarine people spoiled it.

Regarding the Victorian serving wench names: some of them are very pretty for a sweet little girl but less so for a stout lady prison governor with a monobosom (just in case that what she turns into)

PrincessPeaHead · 27/06/2005 21:37

oooh I don't know CD, something classic and elegant like Berengaria or Araminta

aloha · 27/06/2005 21:41

Oh that's SO odd! My friend kept telling me to call dd Berengaria.
I think Junior is a really lovely name for a boy.

bigdonna · 27/06/2005 21:42
