I'm expecting a baby girl and have started putting together a list of possible names. Unfortunately, nothing is really jumping out at me right now and I would love some input from all you Mumsnetters!

We tend to like quite traditional names - Beatrice and Maud are on our list - but I'm open to anything as long as it isn't too popular or trendy. Can you guys help me?!

lou33 · 27/06/2005 15:51

mine are lily and tallulah

i also know little girls called agatha, rosie, olive, tabitha, leah

OldieMum · 27/06/2005 15:54

If you really want a name that's unusual these days, call her Mary. We didn't realise quite how few girls had this name until we called DD Mary. Lots of comments from the nurses in hospital about how you don't hear it nowadays. I'm biased, of course, but I think it's lovely - simple and timeless. She likes it, too.

Tex,

Just wanted to pop along and say HELLO!!!! I'm so chuffed to hear your expecting!!!

Don't know if you remember - we were on ttc together about a year ago!!!

I didn't know you were expecting, when are you due???

I'm on the due in Dec thread.

Take care

My middle name is Mary (still big with Catholics!) my dd is Leah (Rachel's sister in the bible and the only girl's name ex-d and I ever agreed on!) My favourite this time is Isabel (or maybe Isabella) I like Ella but think it's too similar to Leah. I also like Ava, Romilly and India (but dp doesn't!)

tex111 · 27/06/2005 16:07

I love Mary but I have an old boss with the name and it's given me some negative associations. I also love Evie, Georgina, Florence, Mae, Margaret and Kate but friends have all used those names so I feel like they're taken now.

I'm going to have to go through this list with a fine toothcomb later! Sonographer thinks we're having a girl and my dd's are Lily and Bella, along with little brother Joe. I was thinking of Jess (or Bess!), like Ruby and Jemima too.

Thanks Tex!!

fishfinger · 27/06/2005 17:41

ditto LOVE mary and ELizabeth

jessicasmummy · 27/06/2005 17:42

ChaCha · 27/06/2005 17:57

Rodeo - Jess is lovely, I really like Ruby but DH is not having it (don't even know what sex the baby is yet but have decided it's a girl).

glad you like majorie ( whichever spelling but this one probably nicer) it is so sweet and old fashioned. Just try not to be swayed by people....they tend to like what is up and coming and thats what you have to steer clear of!

fishfinger · 27/06/2005 18:40

erm my mum is margery and HATES it

Mama5 · 27/06/2005 18:49

My great aunt was and loved it! she was the sweetest most smily kind person so maybe I am biased ( I even named a dolly Majorie)

Mabel? MABEL?

I'm sorry, you can't be sexy or interesting and be called Mabel. Don't do it to the poor child!

wanders off shaking headin wonderment

aloha · 27/06/2005 19:05

marjorie Dawes....?

Still if you are in Texas it makes everything difficult.

PPH practically named my dd so I bow to her in all naming matters.

PrincessPeaHead · 27/06/2005 19:08

he he he
how is the lovely and beautifully named dd?!

Enid · 27/06/2005 19:08

I like Mary, Helen, Harriet, Jane, Jennifer - really boring plain English names

yawn

although do like Romilly but would be shortened to Milly which is quite boring
