I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

Pureed - I had a UTI a couple of weeks ago and was given amoxycillin - a few days later I had the most horrendous case of thrush I have ever experienced. I feel your pain!!

Canesten pessary and cream worked their wonders, together with sitting on ice packs and "bathing" the area with cotton wool soaked in diluted tea tree oil . I wish you better soon.

About to feast on christmas ham, mashed potatoes and pickles, accompanied by co-dydramol so I can have some more before bedtime

fetaqueen · 28/12/2009 21:30

Evening All..

Glad we are getting lots of chat on this site.. keeps me going.

Im now counting in days till my c-section which is 28 days.

GOOD LOOK FOR TOMORROW CTOFN

You poor people with thrush.. I remember when we were trying for my DD we were at it so much I ket getting thrush. My poor DH sex is such a distant memory... now Im just a smelly moaning wife who wears huge bras and even huger pants.

By the way any one else wearing Mothercare support pants? My midwife recomended them the were £15 for two pairs.. how ever you newish SPD sufferers should invest in some..kind of holds you all together a bit and doesnt cut you in two like tubey grip/ support belts do.

Pureed - Might just be m and you soon.. so keep coming back and moaning....

Whilst we are on the personal side.. how are other people dealing with constipation?

7DW - quite fancy a birthing pool to sit in all day for the next 28 days.. think my DD would like that idea too.. Why dont I know any friends with a hot tub?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/12/2009 06:39

A ridiculously early good morning to you all!

Well, I'll be getting ready soon to go off to hospital but really worried they might postpone as I've not stopped throwing up (TMI sorry) since around 10pm last night. My poor DH kept getting up in the middle of the night to clean up after me - will the indignity ever stop?

Feta - just wanted to say that I have had terrible problems with constipation through this and both my previous pregnancies. This time, I have taken to Lactulose and bucket loads of water, orange juice and prune juice daily, plus of course fruit and veg and Fruit & Fibre for breakfast most days.

It certainly helps, but I still have some problems IYKWIM! Have upped the dosages last few days in anticipation of c/s today - but now can't eat or drink anything til much later .

Bye for now everyone xx

7dayweekend thank you for the advice. Great tips for getting out the car. Will put a carrier bag in there tomorrow. With regards to my job, I work in a pub, behind the bar, so sitting down really isn't an option. I really don't think I'm going to be able to go back.

Yesterday I went shopping as I desperately needed some shoes (been wearing DH's trainers which are too big for me because I didn't own a pair of flat shoes!). It was hideous. Because I'm in pain I can't walk very fast and I had people barging and pushing past me in a hurry. I had drove home which is about a 50 minute drive and whilst I'm ok when driving I was in absolute agony when I got out of the car. It was horrendous, I could hardly walk, my back was killing me as well as my hips and pubic bone. I literally felt like I was going to split in two!

That's it now, I officially cannot walk anywhere and now I can only drive very short distances.

Is there any real point in me having Physio? Can they help? If so how? Is it going to get any better?

7dayweekend I live in a very rural area so we definitely don't have a local 'shopmobility' near us and the nearest large supermarket is about an hours drive from here.

TBH I'm not that fussed about not being able to walk very far, as long as I can hobble from the car to school and back on the school run I don't really mind. DH will have to do the shopping etc or we can get it delivered and I just won't be able to drive very far.

The thing that worries me most is work. I've already been off work for over 2 months with Hyperemesis and it doesn't really look as if I'll be able to go back because of this. Will I still be able to claim maternity pay if I'm off sick for even longer? I'm only 18 weeks now so if I can't return to work between now and when I'm due to go on maternity leave that's a long time claiming sick pay.

Thank you, got a feeling I won't qualify for SMP. It says on the Direct gov website that you have to earn an average of £95 per week before tax, I have been claiming SSP since October which is about £79 per week plus I only work part time anyway and earn about £115 per week.

sweetkitty · 29/12/2009 21:52

hi everyone sorry to hear there is so much suffering.

I'm 22 weeks and doing OK so far, I only walk when necessary and don't sit for long periods of time. DP does most of the hoovering and we get our shopping delivered. The stairs hurt but take it slow.

For me the support belts were next to useless and the physio told me there was nothing else she could do for me last time as everytime she manipulated my pelvis back into it's correct position it immediately moved back so she sent me away saying delivery was the only cure

I have 3 other DC who are 5, 4 and 1 so codeine not an option during the day, will take it after they are in bed so at least I sleep well but so far haven't needed to take them.

If it would stay at this level I could cope, I remember last time getting so down and depressed at 25 weeks thinking that I had another 15 weeks of this hell.

Hello

Welcome to the two new sufferers.. nice to have more people to share our suffering.. but obviously not nice yo are struggling too..

7DW - Mothercare do a mother and baby club.. If you join you get £5 off maternity "lingerie" when you spend over 30... so get two packs of pants for £25... fab!!! Theres no way I could buy just the two pairs struggle getting washing and stuff done.

Been out in the anual wheelchair today with my parents.. and actually quite proud of myself that Im starting to be able to move about using the wheels by myself...

You know I'd find it so hard to have to use one on a more permanent basis.. Hope to god this goes.. 27 DAYS AND COUNTING...

pureeandpearls · 30/12/2009 07:46

Welcome newbies- as you know, we feel your pain

Feta- I have invetsed in your giant pants and am rather liking them. Poor DH- I bear no resemblance to the woman he married. And I've been taking Fybogel- foul and disgusting but it does work and tbh, I couldn't cope with anymore issues in the undercarriage whilst I am combatting the dreaded thrush. FFS- why is it some people have such an easy pregnancy???

7DW- pool sounds heaven. Could you just live in it for two weeks?

mam- definitely look into Maternity allowance. You can claim if you don't qualify for SMP. I think you have to earn £30 a week (not usre off the top of my head as I claim it as self-employed person). Speak to someone at job centre, or Google it. You can fill in all the forms online.

Waiting to hear from CTOFN and the second of our babies!

mampam · 30/12/2009 13:20

PandP I've wondered exactly the same thing....why do some people have such easy pregnancies. TBH it really pisses me off (excuse my french) and those people are always the ones that say "I'm sure it'll get better soon" or "I never had any trouble with any of mine". I just keep thinking 'why me?'. I've had severe hyperemesis, I still feel really sicky although I'm not actually vomiting thank god and now I'm in agony with this.

With my last pregnancy I was very depressed and went on to have PND I can really see myself going the same way this time too. People just don't get what it's like to live and feel like this all the time. So shitty. Just to top it all off I'll be 30 tomorrow and I can't help thinking that I've done bugger all with my life.

Oh bloody hell, this isn't me, I know it's just the pain/inconvenience of all of this that's talking and getting the better of me.

I'm going to look into Maternity Allowance now. I must be entitled to something. I need to weigh up my options because I would love nothing more than to be able to tell my boss to P* Off, because she has treated me appallingly since she's known I am pregnant, but if I can claim SMP or MA it's worth me hanging on in there.

Mama2b5 · 30/12/2009 13:47

Hello

So we all have matching pants now then..
My top tip is to wear a normal pair underneath and then wear the big ones on top.. that way if you need to wear them again the next day its perfecty ok!!!

CTOFN - Hope you ome bak on soon and let us all know how you get on.

7DW - I know exactly what you mean. I love my DH so much and he is having a shit time too... and soon he wont be able to have a drink at night to help chill out just incase i go into Labour...

NAMPAM - P & P- Know exactly what you mean. I know also after the baby when friends get pregnant I am going to feel jealous... Jealous of their perfect happy pregnancy.. Jealous that they are able to go out and show off their bump. Jealous of their birth plan. Why do spme people get it so fcking easy...

But it is nice to get out and about n the wheelchair... been able to buy a few things in the sales for my baby...

Had a friend come round wit her month old baby today and all I could think was that dont want mine anymore... Its wrecked my life these last few months.. my husbands life.. my DD's life...

God Im getting depressing tonight.

MAMPAM - pretty sure you ill get that maternity benefit.. MY DH is a benefit advisor.. down load the forms and send them in. You need wage slips etc.. but you shoudl get it... HAPPY BIRTHDAY

And MAMPAM - you have done stuff with your life.. you've had babies... been a good mum and found yourself help on the internet to alk to others...

Happy New Year Guys...

Just been wheeled home by a drunken DH...looking at the stars with high hopes of this never happening again....

xxxx

Ponymum · 01/01/2010 14:36

Hello to everyone, and congrats on new babies. I have been lurking a little as I am currently 16 weeks and had severe SPD with my previous pregnancy - in wheelchair at 20 weeks, severe pain, unable to sit up or get out of bed without assistance, etc. God it is terrible remembering how bad it was. I have been getting physio care right from the start this time and so far, so good - fingers crossed!

However, everyone is saying I need to be prepared for the worst again. So basically I am just popping in to reserve a space on the sofa as I may be spending quite a bit of time here in the next few months!

One question: has anyone managed to get a blue badge or any disability assistance due to SPD? I got nowhere with this last time as they kept telling me it could only be considered for a 'permanent' condition. Anyone had other experiences?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/01/2010 17:54

Hi everyone - I've just got back home today after giving birth to Olivia - or rather having her delivered for me, on Tuesday 29th.

I won't lie, I had a bit of a rough time with the c/s and recovery - all unusual stuff but then again, with the way my luck for 2009 went, I guess it was never in doubt. It was not SPD related though!

I have, however, left my crutches at the hospital! I think that the only pain I now feel is c/s scar and associated stuff related rather than pelvic.

I will pop back on later, but just wanted to say hi... better go to my ante natal thread now!
