Sorry I could not think of an original title

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

how bizarre to say "though you might say that!" rather than check you were ok and stop what she was doing?! However, it is quite scary/amazing what your feet can tell you!

ps DD also doesn't like poo-ing at school, but then I don't really like doing it away from home either!!

Ready · 22/11/2009 16:03

Truth be told, she is a bit bizarre. Don't particularly like her, she is a friend of dh's family - when mil had a party to welcome H to the world she was a right pain. H was crying (colicky evenings) and dh was walking with her, and this woman took H and starting doing stuff on her feet and saying 'oooh look her feet are all clenched up with wind' ... I kept looking at dh with those 'get her away from that woman' eyes. I felt sick! Needless to say H started screaming.

Oh, H officially hates me she did the crying thing again, although she was sitting on dh lap at the time, so he was able to cuddle her quickly before she starting really crying. I could see the bottom lip start to tremble again I am really worried because I have no idea what I am doing that triggers this?? Dh thinks it could be to do with my cold, he says my voice is croaky. I hope that is all it is.

Ready · 22/11/2009 16:05

Oh, I worked with a girl who wouldn't poo anywhere but her own home, and she was in her 20s!

fettle · 22/11/2009 16:45

Ready - H doesn't hate you. She loves you very much. However, there is a special bond between fathers and daughters and there was a time in DD's first year, when I felt really unloved as DD always wanted DH. During her screaming phase (about 6-17 weeks) she would always stop for DH, but screamed all day with me. She carried on being a Daddy's girl, but has become more Mummyish as she's got older, but they still have a special bond. Toby on the otherhand always has been a Mummy's boy!!

Besides, if she was on DH's lap when her bottom lip wobbled, I'd blame him!. I'm sure it is nothing to worry about.

Can't believe your friend did H's feet without asking your permission first. Have to say from your description I wouldn't say she was trained in the same way as me .

fettle · 22/11/2009 16:48

By way - I don't even do Toby's feet, as he hates me touching them!. Not a very good advertisement for me that my own son doesn't like me touching his feet! But DD absolutely loves it! Should do her again as I've been trying to keep her cold free and I'd been doing really well, but haven't done her for at least 6 weeks now and she's been pretty poorly this past week (and of course it is all related!).

Hiya

what's the thoughts about swine flu jab for under 5s? I am thinking will prob get Dex done as he was in hospital before with bronchiolitis and swine flu can end up with breathing problems.

Dex has just done a bit of a yucky poo- but he has nursery later- what would you do??? Wait and see if he does anymore- or ring now and tell them he won't be in...

fettle · 23/11/2009 10:57

Personally I would see how he is later and if no more dodgy poos, would still send him. Unless you are happy not to send him in which case you could tell them now, but as he's only just started I wouldn't keep him off too much as he's still getting used to it.

Toby also just did a dodgy nappy and had a very high temp yesterday. DD has been poorly for a few days, but only had a high temp on Thursday and has been complaining of a very painful ear since last night. Just found out that DD's best friend at school has been diagnosed with swine flu and is on tamiflu - just waiting for it to hit us now. Although hoping that my reflexology on DD may keep her having it mildly, as her hacking cough and temp last week, could possibly have been it very very mildly - so hard to tell.

Which brings me on to your other question Honey. I too am not sure what to do aabout Toby and the vaccination. I was quite sure I Was undecided until speaking to my friend (mother of afore mentioned child), who's son is 3 and has had meningitis and hospitalized as well for bronchiolitis, she says she would have given anything for a vaccination to stop that so he will be having the vaccine, if he doesn't catch it from his sister before then! Made me think that the complications from the vaccination are likely to be very rare and easier to deal with than the more likely and more serious complications of swine flu in little ones.

So made your decision any easier? I'm still unsure - so pleased I'm not pg and having to make a decision about getting the vaccine then!!

DH is due to the get vaccine any day now as frontline troops are next in line! So maybe I'll wait and see how he copes with it.

Must work - so pleased Mum is here to help with my 2 children, who should be at school and nursery, but I really must get my work done before my course on Wednesday.

honeyapple · 23/11/2009 11:24

thanks fettle- no more poo from dex! Going to take him in 30 mins- so hopefully he won't do anymore! I really want him to go to nursery- don't want to waste the money either!

Thanks for swine flu info- will probably go for it for Dex.

What are you getting DD for xmas? I am struggling here

fettle · 23/11/2009 11:41

I'm so easily distracted - I should be writing up my case study.....

We've got DD a DAB radio/CD player for her bedroom, in the hope that she will lie in bed in the mornings listening to CBeebies radio of BBC7 or a story CD - we can hope!!! Argos had one for £54.99 which I thought wasn't too bad for a DAB radio & CD player in one! Hope she likes it - whe wants a Nintendo DS, but I've refused on the grounds that it is too much money to spend on a 5 year old. Am I mean? THought I may relent for her birthday present next April, as a joint birthday/moving house & school/daddy coming home present. I thought it would be a good thing for them to play together on to make sure they spend time together as that is one of the hardest things when they get back - getting the DC to accept them again as they tend to just want Mummy!

Enjoy your childfree afternoon....

honeyapple · 23/11/2009 12:38

yup- i should be doing some work too! DD had a DS for xmas last year (when she was 6).

Been looking at lego- but not sure whether she would be interested!

right- seriously- got to start on an essay! Have tutorial on thurs so need to say I have at least started...

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 13:18

oh my god! this thread went from being super quiet to super busy!!!

i dont like to poo away from home either by the way! but my kids couldn't care less where they poo!

xmas is a struggle with knowing what to buy. we are getting kiki a ds, but partly cos i cant think what else to get her and her birthday is only 2 weeks after xmas. i have actually been trying to convince her that she really wants one! ellis is hard work too. he just wants action figures, but i want to get him a bigger main present and dont know what to get! we are trying to get him to want a scalextric, but he doesnt seem that interested..............all he needs is two little action figures and he is happy for hours making them fight, but he has so many i dont really want to get him anymore!

marcy had her 2 year check this morning, and i wasnt at all worried about ANYTHING about her. i was so relaxed going in, but now she has had it i am worried about her speech!!! the health visitor was pointing out that she really doesnt say very many understandable words! i have been trying to work it out and she prob only says about 15 clear words. the strange thing is, she NEVER shuts up, it is just mainly unintelligible babble! she is being reassessed after xmas and then possibly referred to a speech therapist! she made me feel like a terrible mother too, cos she tried to get marcy to do this puzzle and marcy NEVER does puzzles, cos she isnt interested and the other 2 arent into puzzles either so i have never pushed it!! marcy just looked so thick cos she didnt really have a clue what to do with the puzzle! she really isn't the brightest spark! anyway, at least she has fab hair!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 13:19

by the way honey, i read your message as ' darling daughter had a darling son for xmas last year!'

fettle · 23/11/2009 13:25

Oh Greedy - poor you. They don't do a 2 year check here, just send you a card with what your child "should" be doing and a phone number to call should you be worried about anything!

Toby didn't say very much when he turned 2, but more and more words are coming now pretty quickly, but most of them need some diciphering - how clear do they want them to be?! Toby's developing either a broad West Country accent or a scottish accent as he says "doo-or" for door; Mummy "dee-it" (as in Mummy do it!). Try not to let them worry you, because as you've said she has fab hair and what else is she going to need in life with that attribute!!!grin]

As for puzzles, if you've never done them with her, she's not going to have a clue is she, now if she'd asked Marcy to go shopping for clothes, bet she'd been ace at that!

Must work......

fettle · 23/11/2009 13:27

I too was a bit confused as to why Honey was calmly telling us that her DD had had a Darling Son last year!!

honeyapple · 23/11/2009 14:17

.... god- that makes me a granny!

(written intro and first bit of essay- feeling very good about myself)

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 14:38

i REALLY dont miss writing essays! good luck!

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 14:42

not really too concerned about marcy. just realised she has another word too.........MINE!!! she just said it to me and i thought how nice and clear and demanding it sounded! kiki's speech wasnt very good at this age either but she never did the constant babbling that marcy does. oh well.............the health visitors job is to worry mothers and make them feel inadequate isn't it?

fettle · 23/11/2009 14:44

Well I'm just printing out my attempt at my final case study, so I just need to read this one and another one through and hope they read better than they did when I was writing them! Not convinced they are my best effort, but I'll feel happier when they're done and handed in on Wednesday!

Well done on getting started Honey - always the worst part I find!

Oh just got warning saying it hasn't printed - now I'm going to have to work out how to mend the printer!!

fettle · 23/11/2009 14:51

crossed with you Greedy - Toby does a great "nine!", which I think is his attempt at mine!! See he really doesn't have any clear words!

Ok - still not worked out the printer - think I've found what I need my DH for!!!

fettle · 23/11/2009 15:28

Nope - don't need him to mend printers either as I've managed that alone too!! I'm a super-great independent woman!!!

Wonder what I do need him for....... Greedy help me out here...

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 17:29

HIS WILLY!!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/11/2009 17:31

is that what you meant?

fettle · 23/11/2009 18:45

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

ok maybe just a little bit!

honeyapple · 23/11/2009 19:55

Dex is pretty rubbish too with talking- he has 'words' but they are not recognisable by anyone but me! No developmental check done here either- so no HV to get me worried...

fettle · 23/11/2009 20:55

How you get on this afternoon, Honey? Get much done? Hope Dex was ok at nursery?

Well I've managed to finish my last 2 case studies, so hopefully I've done enough to pass them as that's one of the main parts of my course completed thank goodness!

Off for a glass of wine now to celebrate.

By the way, took DD to the GP today as her ear pain was getting worse - GP says it is possible that DD has very mild swine flu as some children appear to be getting it very mildly. Really hoping that is the case, as I don't want a really really poorly daughter - makes me think again about the vaccination for Toby. Just see how his temperature/snot develops over the next few days - he was dribbling so much today, that I'm sure he's just teething still. He's really suffered with every single one of his teeth, poor lad.

ps GP also said that she wouldn't give her own children Tamiflu unless they were showing signs of complications as the side effects are so horrid - didn't ask her about the vaccination as it was an emergency/quick appointment.
