Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

Due date is somewhere between 29th April and 1st of May.

I have to say I've been really impressed with the care I've recieved at Wishaw, especially compared to some of the stories you read on here. I have had 2 scans already - 1 at 7 weeks and a second at 9 and have a further one booked for 13.

When are you due?

Vio · 10/10/2006 14:58

hi Geordie, think you are the lucky one. My due day is 22 Apr 06 but i have so far received nothing yet. No check up or scan whatsoever. My first scan will be on 27 Oct...nearly 20days away from today...i would have been about 15 weeks by then.

geordiemacminx · 10/10/2006 14:59

I only got early ones cos of m/c in June. I will be 13 1/2 by the time I will have first proper scan.

Anjo1 · 10/10/2006 15:02

I'm due the 11th of February ,I was in Wishaw about a month ago and they were lovely , did you go to the Maternity Day Bed unit ? are the scans just to keep a close eye on everything ? I hope it's all going well
I felt better about having the baby there after my experience there , I just hope my current midwife is not in attendance at the birth ( or if she is I can just use the pain of childbirth as an excuse to tell her what i think of her -just joking , I wouldn't !) , any of the other staff that I met would be fine cause they were lovely

geordiemacminx · 10/10/2006 15:06

I was at the pregnancy scanning bit which is right at the end of the corridor on the first floor. Was in the amternity unit when I had m/c and they were lovely in there. my mum drove up in the middle of the night from Newcastle to be with me, arrived at 5 in the morning, there was no problem with her comming in, the nurse even made her tea and toast.

Anjo1 · 10/10/2006 15:53

yeah that's the same bit I was they are lovely -very reassuring.I walked past the ward I'm booked into for the birth and It felt weird thinking oh my god in a few months ....yikes!
DP noted the lovely long corridor outside the ward where he said he'd be pacing up and down-that was before i told him that he's coming in and staying in [grin ]
!!!

Vio · 10/10/2006 15:53

I called PRM and have my 1st appointment changed from 27Oct to 20Oct... I think its better to have it done earlier cos i am worried.

I just want to make sure everything is fine cos i don't know why but i am the kind of person who often worry to much...not good but now i am trying not to...will be a mum soon so i guess i need to be strong and be positive.

geordiemacminx · 10/10/2006 16:12

PLeased you got your scan moved... have you considered getting a doppler - not sure whether it would make you worry more mond you. I am exactly the same but am renting one, going to try and only use it once a day..

suis · 11/10/2006 15:19

Hiya,

I know there are a few people on this thread from the central area. Does anyone know of any good aquanatal or antenatal yoga classes in the area ? I could go to them near my work in Edinburgh, but I would rather do something I can keep going to when I've stopped working. Any ideas would be very helpful...

geordiemacminx · 11/10/2006 15:39

No idea suis but if you go onto netmums there is a section on there with classes local to your area. Unfortunately all the ones in my area are during the day

geordiemacminx · 16/10/2006 09:36

Hey all. Hope everyone is well and had a nice weekend.

Chubski - are you still here???

WO - Yep last weekend was the one for telling the kids... it didnt go great but to be honest it was kinda expected.. DSD said something along the line of "you didnt love us enough to stay so why do you want another one?" Although she's 15 she's still quite young for age, and still has issues with her mum and dad splitting up - even though it was 8/9 years ago. She also went mad that we hadnt told her 2 months ago... like that was going to happen.. still onwars and upwards. Felt very sorry for dp.

Vio · 16/10/2006 12:06

hi everyone,

went down to Manchester & Chester in the weekend to see family & friends. It was great.

My first has moved to this Friday. weeonion- i want to ask you that my appointment is at 10:15am...so does that mean you usually have to wait and you don't really get to see anyone at 10:15am? cos my husband wants to come with me for the scan but he cannnot take the whole day off so i wonder if you know when they will do the scan if say my appointment is at 10:15am and how long does it last for?
You also mentioned about doing the 20weeks one, you having it done in Glasgow this time? if yes, which clinic you going to?

Hope everyone is well..

geordiemacminx · 16/10/2006 13:38

Vio;

I havent been to your hospital but having had a fair few scans, I would say that you shouldnt be that delayed at 10.15 as they probably only start at 9.00 so shouldnt have a huge back log. Scan usually takes no longer than 1/2 hour but obviously depends on how good a position the little one is in etc. I would say that you should be out of the hospital in an hour max? HTH

Vio · 16/10/2006 14:00

thankx v.much geordie, so when you had your first scan, did you prepare a list of questions to ask? i am thinkin of what questions to ask on Friday..seems that there are so many things in my head now..

geordiemacminx · 16/10/2006 14:05

Not really, I'm not sure what sort of questions you are thinking of but generally the person that does the scan is a sonographer and might not be able to answer general baby questions? I did ask about 12 and 20 week scans though. More general questions are probably best directed towards your midwife - have you got an appointment with her yet?

trixymalixy · 16/10/2006 15:17

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all keeping OK.

Was on holiday from work Thurs/Fri, so went shopping for baby with DH which was quite exciting as he hadn't let me buy anything up until now.

He vetoed my choice of nursery furniture as being too dear though, and took me to Ikea which I vetoed as being too cheap!!

In the end we bought some Mamas and Papas stuff, which was £750 on their website, but £399.99 at Glasgow Pram Centre, bargain!!

Also bought some all-in-ones (so tiny and cute!!) and boring stuff like a steriliser and breast pump (eugh!!).

Are you all organised Chubski? Are you not so excited that you'll be meeting your DC soon?

geordiemacminx · 16/10/2006 15:36

Does the Glasgow pram centre have a good selection of prams and such like? I know this probably seems like a really stupid question.

Vio · 16/10/2006 16:59

hi, trixy..could you pls tell me where Glasgow pram centre is? when is your due date? thx!

trixymalixy · 16/10/2006 17:41

Glasgow pram centre is fab. They have a massive range of stuff and is generally miles cheaper than anywhere else.

It is on McFarlane St which is just opposite the Barrowlands ballroom.

Or try their website glasgow pram centre

I'm due on the 21st of january, so 26 weeks at the moment. I just had a panic as my SIL said their nursery furniture and pram took 12 weeks to arrive and then I was reading some magazines with stories of babies arriving early so thought I'd better order it.

It is being delivered on Friday though so god knows where we'll put it as the nursery is still to be replastered and decorated!!!!

weeonion · 16/10/2006 18:14

hey vio - i think i posted info on the day i had my scan done. we are both at the princess royal and if i am right - this is yr scan and booking appointment. mine was also for 10.15 and we left the hospital around 2pm! we didnt have that long to wait for the scan around 20mins - that was the first bit. it in itself took around 1/2 hr - mainly because my bladder was too full and the baby wasnt in the right positiion. we then moved to another dept where there was a long wait to see the midwife. i was called in on my own to begin with - she wanted to know if i was ok with discussing my periods, gynae info and personal questions in front of my partner. she also asked about domestic violence at this point. i was ok with dp being with me - so in he came! she was really lovely and it was at this point hat i went through my list of questions with her. had my bloods done and then i had to wait a while for a doctor to see me because of family history of blood clots and pre-eclampsia. then we were free to go!!

i know that is quite detailed but it was what we went through at the booking in. if yr dh only wants to stay for the scan - i would say he would be out of there by 12???

Vio · 17/10/2006 13:35

thanks v.much everyone for your replies.

I am v.excited about going for a scan on Friday. (can't wait)...becos my bump is already quite big and my aunts are twins so i am quite concerned..been thinking if i am expecting twins.

We are thinking of what sort of things to buy and also want to start decorate the baby room so thanks for your info trixy.

Hope everyone is well...
