Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

trixy - i went into the glasgow pram centre a few weeks ago and spent hours!!! i didnt look very pg at the time and i am sure they thought i was going to make off with someone's baby. the stuff is lovely and not too bad price wise!

how the heck i am gonna choose a buggy - i dont know!

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 22:37

Is everybody Ok? You're all very quiet!!

I hope your scan goes well tomorrow Vio!! Hope it's not twins (unless you want twins of course).

Weeonion it is very daunting seeing the huge range at the pram centre!!! I found it quite amusing that everything was locked up as well, was wondering if they had loads of wee neds trying to run out with stuff!!

We went to the pram centre midweek when it was quiet and the girl was able to spend loads of time with us showing us all the different options. Apparently it's really hectic at the weekends.

In the end it was quite easy for me to choose as I wanted one that you didn't have to split into two to fold up (once past the newborn carrycot stage), so it had to umbrella fold (technical term picked up from girl at pram centre!!) but was suitable for a newborn as well.

That left us with 2 choices, the pliko pramette or the Micralite and DH said he preferred the sportier looking micralite over the more trad looking pramette.

I ordered my Micralite today, they've discontinued it at the pram centre unfortunately so got it from babyworld.co.uk.

hey trixy - i used to live veryy close to the pram centre (moved thank god!) but u did indeed see prams and buggies being hastily dragged down the street rapidly followed by staff!
thanks for the tips tho!

vio - enjoy the morning - hope it all goes ok!!

we have been quiet here!

hi gals, had my scan this morning..everythings fine. Oh, i don't know what to say, it was just soooo sweet seeing my baby for the first time..i couldn't help smiling.. I could see the baby moving and waving at everthing though I still cannot really feel it. I am 13.5 weeks now...they said my due date should still be 22 Apr 07. The midwife at PRM is fab..shes v.kind...she is the midwife attached to my local clinic so i will have my entire antenatal care at my local clinic instead...which is good..)

I will see her again on 6Nov cos i will have my blood screening test at 15+weeks...i did hesitate, you know, whether to have one or not, eventually, i decided that i would like to know cos i am a born worrier..i dont want to spend my entire pregnancy worrying about things..anyway, its a lovely day for me today..:O)

geordiemacminx · 20/10/2006 14:18

Hey Vio - pleased everything went ok - I take it there is only one in there?

Vio · 20/10/2006 14:48

yes, geordie, the midwife said to us that they only offer one scan cos lack of staff or fund etc.

We are still thinking whether to have the 20wks done privately but it costs around £200 which isn't cheap at all...well, i will have a blood screening test next time i see her ( she has taken some blood sample of mine as well today) i will see what the result is first then decide later.

geordiemacminx · 20/10/2006 14:52

Sorry - I meant one baby... not twins!!!

Vio · 20/10/2006 15:44

hi, geordie..haha..sorry, yes, one only. not twins. thank god...huge relief cos i cannot imagine myself taking care of two babies at the same time..)
So, how are you then?

geordiemacminx · 20/10/2006 15:51

Fine really apart from being absolutely worn out all the time. Not as sick as I have been although evenings are still worse than during day. Got another scan next thursday which should be nice as my mum is coming up to go with me. will be 13+3 by then.

Vio · 24/10/2006 08:55

Hi weeonion, i decided to pay for the private 20wks scan. Which clinic are you going to for your 20wks scan? have you booked it? and why you chose this one? pls let me know.

A friend of mine from HK sent me a 3D scan pics of her baby..shes due in Nov...it really surprises me cos you can really see the baby very clear..you can even tell the baby looks like her father!

geordiemacminx · 24/10/2006 09:46

I think I will be going to the nuffield in Glasgow as they do evening appointments.. its slighty more expensive than the one in edinburgh but if dp and I take a day off we dont get paid it works out a lot cheaper in the long run!!

I've got my 13 week scan on thursday!!

lollipopz · 24/10/2006 10:56

hiya all , am new to this board but noticed theres loads of people based in scotland! I am in glasgow and having my baby at the queen mums hospital, a wee bit further along than the rest of you, i am 31 weeks, due 23rd december!! Hope you are all keeping ok xx

Vio · 24/10/2006 13:15

Hi Geordie, do you mean you are paying for the 20wks one scan as well?

geordiemacminx · 24/10/2006 13:40

yeah, its £200 at the Nuffield which is on the Great Western Road, £150 at the place in Edinburgh or £200 for 3D.

weeonion · 24/10/2006 14:13

i'm booked in for nuffield on the 27th november - they told me £200. i went there as it is in glasgow, i have a meeting close to there that dy and it means dp can go as he cant get a day off work to head to edinbugh

weeonion · 24/10/2006 14:13

hi to lollipopz! u wil be our font of knowledge! hope all is well for you xo

geordiemacminx · 24/10/2006 14:53

how many weeks are you now WO? I'm gonna book mine once I had my scan on thursday, I'm 13+1?

Vio · 24/10/2006 15:17

hi everyone, yes, my hushand wants me to find one in Glasgow cos he doesn't want to go to Edinburgh ( bit too far he said) anyway, £200, i suppose its worth paying the money.

So you two both have booked your scan? i will talked to my hushand tonight then probably will book one tomorrow. you two are going to have anomaly scan right?

You know i really can't want to see my babys development. I often wonder if baby will look like me or my hushand..I want my baby to look more like my hushand cos i thought he's v.cute when he was a boy..lol !! haha...don't know i am having a boy or a gal though.

lollipopz · 24/10/2006 18:27
