Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

trixymalixy - welcome!! this is great - the tartan crew is expanding! i am going to the princess royal - but i'm only 10+5 - a bit behind you! what do you think of it so far???????

Chocalholic1 · 27/09/2006 18:33

Trixymalixy - thanks for the info on the Micralite. I've never even heard of them but turns out they sell them at the Pram Centre. Will pop along for a look. You say you have a small car - how small is small? Does it fit in the car boot?

Re scans - I decided on a "detailed scan" which is the one you normally get on the NHS. This is where they look at the organs etc. - so sounds quite like a growth scan. We got the 4D option for £50 extra but not really worth it as eyes aren't open yet. We were going to get the 4D scan at 26 weeks but figured we'd rather have the reassurance earlier.

Hello,

Nice to see some Stirling people on here.

Had my 20 week scan today and everything looked great. Even got a wee picture of the little person waving. No idea about sex, SRI won't tell. dp reckonhe saw "bits" so it's a boy, but I thought I saw "no bits", so back to square one. We don't want to know anyway, would be like opening your Christmas pressies early, but still curious.

trixymalixy · 28/09/2006 10:05

Went for my scan last night, so thought I'd tell you all how it went.

Well it was the best £200 I've spent in my life. I wanted it more to check everything was OK with the baby rather than see it so went for an anomaly scan rather than 3D.

The doctor spent an hour scanning, looking at all the organs, measuring bits of the brain, checking for harelip etc, was extremely reassuring. Then spent ages trying to get the baby to move so we could have a better look at the profile. Baby was being awkward and had its arms over its head for the whole time, so he gave us a bit of 3D so we could see it's face.

The best bit though was watching the DVD of it back with my Mum and Dad afterwards. They have been having a really tough time lately so it was just the boost they needed.

Choca, I have an old VW Polo, and the Micralite will fit in the boot as it folds so small. You can also clip a car seat into the chassis of the Micralite and it comes with a carrrycot for newborns.

weeonion · 28/09/2006 10:27

oh trixy - i got goosebumps when i read your post! how great for you! could you give me the details for nuffield - they do evening appts??

trixymalixy · 28/09/2006 10:48

Hi weeonion,

Sorry have only just seen your earlier post. Was too over-excited about telling about scan, not being rude!!

I'm loving being pregnant for the most part. I didn't really feel sick or anything, just tired and a bit over-emotional sometimes. I'm sure I won't love it so much when I get a bit heavier though!!

The scanning is done at:

Nuffield House
1000 Great Western Road,
Glasgow
G12 0NR
Tel: 0141 576 2900/334 9441

I actually turned up at Nuffield hospital by mistake, but thankfully Nuffield house is just round the corner.

Didn't think much of the receptionists though. We were standing for ages waiting for someone to tell us where to go.

They do evening appointments which I thought was good.

weeonion · 28/09/2006 11:00

trixy - what do you think of the princess royal. did yu hear rom them early on or was it around 16 weeks?? i am 10+6 now and not a peep from them! any tips on what they are like would be great!!

trixymalixy · 28/09/2006 11:41

Weeonion,

I live in Burnside so go to Rutherglen maternity centre for all my midwife appts, but having baby at PRM.

I went to my GP the minute I knew I was pregnant and she did another test to confirm and I got my ante-natal care card with my first appointment on it in a couple of weeks later. It was booked for me being just over 12 weeks and i got a scan then.

16 weeks seems a bit late for your first appt. to me. I would have thought you would have heard from them by now?!?

I've been up at the PRM a couple of times. Once for the early pregnancy class (which btw was quite good, would recommend it) and once for some Physio. The entrance is a bit grim, but it's quite nice inside and all the people were lovely. Parking is a bugger though.

weeonion · 28/09/2006 11:48

god trixy - i sound like an eejit but antenatal care card??

early pregnancy class????

trixymalixy · 28/09/2006 12:03

You get your own wee copy of your ante-natal care notes to keep with you and they keep a bigger copy. It's got space for times of your appointments on it as well.

You'll get leaflets about all the different classes they offer at your booking in appointment.

The early pregnancy class is 2 hours long, the first hour is with a dietician who tells you what you can and can't eat in pregnancy. The second hour is with a physio, who shows you how best to get in and out of bed and chairs to protect your back and abdominal muscles, exercises to do in pregnancy and relaxation techniques.

I thought it would be a waste of time as i had done loads of reading, but it was really informative, plus you get a couple of hours off work!!

weeonion · 28/09/2006 12:28

ok - sorry to be a pest but this is great info. did you get the early preg class after yr booking appt at the hospital?
did yr gp issue the antenatal care card or the princess royal?

trixymalixy · 28/09/2006 12:58

You're not a pest weeonion, wish I'd had someone to tell me stuff as I was worried about lack of contact before 12week appt.

I think my GP sent a letter to PRM and PRM sent the ante-natal care card as when I went back to GP for non-pregnancy reason she asked whether I had had the card through yet.

After my booking appointment, I phoned the number on the leaflet I was given about the classes as I was a bit confused about what classes to do. The nice woman booked the early pregnancy class for me, and filled out the form for me for the others and sent it to Rutherglen Maternity for me, as I will have my classes there rather than at PRM.

geordiemacminx · 28/09/2006 13:11

weeonion · 29/09/2006 09:54

poor us .....

Are you loking forward to a trip home. will you get a chance to hook-up with family, pals etc? do they all know your fabbie news?

is dp all set for this DIY weekend? what bliss for you to come back to it all done. once i left dp to paint our attic room. came home to paint all down stairs, over him and the cat. DIY is not his forte.....

geordiemacminx · 29/09/2006 10:01

Yeah everyone knows.

Will be a weekend of sitting on my bum doing nothing which suits me down to the ground!!

Hopefully it will be done by the time I get back... perhaps I should take the cat with me to avoid any incidents!!!!

Feeling really crappy this morning... think when you are sick it kinda puts a downer on things before you even start! I really need to eat something but not sure whether I can handle anything at the moment...

What you got planned for the weekend?
