Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

Anjo - we were at the pram centre yesterday afternoon... we have more or less decieded on a chicco one... its mint green and grey swirly type things.. was really impressed with the service there, and how much they knew about things.

Pleased you got sorted though... had visions of you pushing baby round in a shopping trolley!!

Did they say how long you have to wait for it? A friend of my mums has just ordered hers and they have told her 12 weeks...

On the plus side, got my first yoga class tonight at the hollistic therapy place in Bothwell!!

Looking forward to the do next week? What you wearing? For the do I mean..

Anjo1 · 27/11/2006 15:10

what am I wearing ? ooo matron !!!
trousers and a nice top I think - one of the only two tops that I can get my Bump into and look semi-decent ! what about you ?
I think I know the pram that you are talking about , it did look lovely, all the Chicco ones are quite cool , nice and compact . I've got mine in red and grey which should suit either boy or girl-so, yes, the little mite has been spared the shopping trolley !! and we've found the cot we want as well , so he/ she might even get a bed we'll have ours on the 20th of January- so best oreder yours as soon as you've decided
Yoga - good for you , Im sure you'll enjoy it , I'd never done it before but I am really enjoying it

geordiemacminx · 27/11/2006 15:52

I know... I am your secret stalker!!! I have anice black dress that I got from ssshh... asda a while ago, but ither than that will see how I feel on the day.. bump seems to have exploded which everyone takes great pleasure in reminding me...

They had some nice cots in there too.. although I am starting to wonder whether we actually need a wardrobe for the time being as we have a huge built in cupboard in the "nursery" and in reality how much baby stuff can you hang up??? Plus... if I can make do with a decent set of drawers I have enough space for one of those glider chairs, as also seen in the GPC, although have found them for £200 cheaper on a "well known auction site"

Was really looking forward to it when I booked, but now am tired and such like and could really do with a bath and pj's on... monday nights arent good for activities.. mondays are for vegging!!

Anjo1 · 27/11/2006 16:29

Seriously drag your self to Yoga , you will feel so much better afterwards , I was having second thoughts about going this morning ,I went and I feel so much more energetic after going now .
I think Nursery furniture is by and large a rip-off , designed to manipulate our pre-natal emotions into paying ridiculous amounts of money for items of furniture that we would ordinarily not be willing to pay. I'm with you on the clothes hanging thing as well - a two meter tall wardrobe for clothes no longer than your arm ? really ?
I'd stick with the built in cupboard and chest of ( none nursery specific )drawers.
Gliders chairs at the " well known auction site"- now that sounds like a deal !

geordiemacminx · 27/11/2006 16:42

Well I liked the look of them but wasnt sure how comfortable they would be... had a little sit in on yesterday and I have to say I would quite happily swap my left leg for one at this moment.. they are sooooooooo comfy and will be lovely for feeding and such like.. and cos they glide instead of rock they are really soothing and relaxing too..

Agree re drawers and such like... think £400 for a wardrobe and set of drawers is ridiculous.. especially when the clothes are so tiny.. and by the time the baby gets to 4 or 5 they will be knackered anyways... its like bedding - £69 for a quilt set from m&p... whats all that about???

weeonion · 27/11/2006 18:46

hey ladies - evening to you all!

vio- glad you had a great weekend - nice to get away sometimes!

so the pram / buggy begins!!!!! shame about the shopping trolley tho anjo - it could have started a trend!! it is th size of teh things that scares me - tryign to get them around buses, stairs and shops. think a baby sling will also be on the list!

GMM - u r nmy kinda gal when it comes to shopping. not sure what i will wear for our nite out but tempted to give a dress a go - too little opportunities to wear them now. my dp thinks it will be really lovely to see all the bumps together.....
just went into primark - bought 5 smocky kinda tops at £4 a go - bargain!!

also signed up to this thread on MN where you buy an xmas gift for a mum who is strugglin to be santa for her kids. i got a family with 1 girl and 2 boys. had loads of fun getting a few wee bits for them

vio and gmm - hows the kicks going? my bean has been alot quieter of late. next scan on wednesdy - bricking it!! want everything to be ok.

lollipopz · 27/11/2006 21:22

Hiya all sorry not been on for so long, had a lot on and the home pc was on the fritz!!
Glad you all had a nice meet up, would love to come to the next one but well, am due on the 19th now (changed from 23rd!), and things are slowly starting to happen already, so cant guarantee i'd make it!!Plus would prob be the only one with a glasgow accent lol!
May I congratulate you all on being so organised, I just bought my pram last week, the cot is in bits in the attic, and my lovely dh keeps harping on at me to pack hospital bag, but it will seem so real if the bags sitting there waiting to go and to tell the truth i am bricking it a bit!!
Any way glad you are all well

liath · 27/11/2006 22:03

Interesting here regarding 20 week scan provision.

trixymalixy · 27/11/2006 22:12

Hi there,

Hope everybody's well!

I won't be able to make it to the meet up as we are going to sheffield that weekend to visit DH's family.

On the subject of 20 week scans, I got a letter from the health minister as my MSP had complained to him on my behalf. Was a load of crap about having to investigate the best way of implementing them, blah, blah, blah. I don't understand why they have to investigate when most health authorities offer 20 week scans already.

Maybe by the time we're on DC2s something will have been done about it !!

weeonion · 27/11/2006 22:23

thanks for that link liath - i miised the news today about it. my msp is supposed to be askign a question of andy kerr as to why those mumstobe whom have had to pay cant be reimbursed by their health trust? wont get anywhere but its worth the pressure. really is sickening t

trixymalixy · 27/11/2006 22:26

Weeonion, will maybe try and get my MSP to ask that as well!! woudl be great to get my money back, but can't see it happening.

At least there seems to be pressure being put on him from a few sources.

Who is your MSP?

liath · 27/11/2006 22:35

TBH feel a big rant coming on but am too tired and I guess if Lothian are going to introduce scans next year anyway......but DH has spent this evening on the internet (bad move but couldn't help it) and if this baby does have the condition that we think it might then having the diagnosis made now rather than after the birth could make a significant difference to the outcome. Horrifiying to think what might have happened if we didn't know in advance!

trixymalixy · 27/11/2006 22:40

What condition do you think your LO might have Liath?

have you had your 20 week scan?

liath · 27/11/2006 22:45

Duodenal atresia. Scan was today. Been referred for repeat scan with consultant radiologist. A bit crap .

trixymalixy · 27/11/2006 22:53

I'm not surprised you feel like having a rant about scans after news like that!

I'm really sorry, you must be worried sick.

I looked it up as I had never heard of it, but it sounds like what my friend's baby had. This probably doesn't help, but her DD didn't have this diagnosed till after she was born. They operated and she is absolutely fine now, doing really well.

Hothead · 28/11/2006 05:26

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking this thread for a little bit of advice.......although it has nothing to do with scans.
Currently my husband and I, and our 18 month old daughter are living in Singapore, where we have been for the last 15 months. However, we are returning to the UK in Feb. and are relocating with my husband's job to the Glasgow area (we used to live in the Manchester area and know very little about Glasgow!) By this time I will be about 24 weeks pregnant with our second. Since we know nothing about Glasgow we are going to rent a house before we buy, but as the second baby will be due in June I am concerned that we don't want to take too long to find an area and a house to live in (I'd much prefer to have moved in before the baby is born, than after, esp. as there is a high chance I'll end up with another c-section.)

Anyway, after rambling on, my question to anyone who might be able to help is; can you give us the names of some nice areas within an hours commute of Glasgow? At least then I will have somewhere to start when my daughter and I begin our great househunt!

Thanks very much in advance for any help, and sorry to hijack!!

geordiemacminx · 28/11/2006 08:54

Hothead..I have lived up in Glasgow for 3 years, renting for the first year. I know quite a bit about most area due to my job so would probabaly be able to help you. Email me [email protected] and we can have a chat, I know quite a few good websites and such like, and would be able to advise on the best area depending on budget.. I'm not an estate agent btw I promise!!

Vio · 28/11/2006 12:04

hi WO-yes, started feeling the baby kicking me on Sat.. lovely feeling. Hope everything goes well with your scan.

Hello to everyone as well!

Hothead, hello to you! i am from Hong Kong, have been to Singapore many times cos i worked for an airline when i was in Hong Kong, moved to Glasgow in May so i don't know much about the area. My husband is orignally from Manchester though, we moved to Glasgow bcos of his job...hes been working here for a few yrs already. I am sure Geordie would be able to give you some good advice.

Hothead · 28/11/2006 12:44

Thanks ladies........wasn't too sure whether I would get flamed for jumping in with a completely off the topic post to this thread! Anyway, about to e-mail you Heather, you sound like you might be a great help - thanks in advance!

weeonion · 28/11/2006 20:13

liath - i feel for you. i know you are a bit down about it all and understandably so. [hug] i suppose you have done as much as you possibly could with having the scan and gettign this detected early.

hothead - welcome to you. again - not an estate agent but spent quite a bit of time looking 2 years ago to buy after renting for 6 months when we moved here. hapoly to pass on advice like gmm - [email protected]
trixy - my msp is paul martin - he actually has been really good.

vio- wayhey - yr bean is kicking!! when is yr next scan?? antenatal appt?

geordiemacminx · 29/11/2006 11:05

Morning ladies;

Good luck with your scan WO. Also Liath, let us know how you get on.

Just thought I would hijack for a wee while and see if we can make some arrangements for next Friday? What time can everyone make it into town? I'm thinking of taking a day off so will be pretty flexible.. in mind if not in body .. The table is booked for 8.30, so was thinking it would be nice to go for drinks before hand? The early the better if you ask me!!

Anjo, still havent decided whether I am taking the car or train yet.. thinking if its earlyish might be better with train rather than fighting traffic... does the Hamilton train stop at Uddingston?

weeonion · 29/11/2006 21:58

u loved the last scan - you will love this one even more.. is yr mum g up for it??

geordiemacminx · 30/11/2006 10:20

Honestly - I am a born organiser!!!! Its good that you are in Glasgow you'll be able to come out and play earlier!!!

Nope just me and dp for this one... thinking about having a 4d one in Feb time, if we go for that one then it will be a family affair, with dp's mum and sister coming and my mum, her partner and my granddad!!!!

How far up do you feel ticklings? Sometimes I feel them as high up as my belly button.. didnt think the lo was up that high?
