Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

I got my 13 week one tomorrow.... its seemed like ages since the 9 week one so another 7 weeks til 20 weeks is just gonna drag!!!!! Might have to book in for a cheeky little one in a few weeks time

Nope, no word from the stepkids, but dp texted her eaarlier in the week to say that he hoped she had a nice time as she was away last weekend. I told him he has to kepp texting her, even if its only once a week, then she can never say that he didnt bother...

weeonion · 25/10/2006 12:20

i think you are right geordie. the mindset she may have got herself into - she could look for any justification to having the strop continue. i dont know if you say my main post on the april thread - but i guess she will come round. a little bit of power games could be going on.
not easy for either of you tho'.
hope it aint put a dampner on yr own wee bean! good luck 2morro honey - how exciting1 yu'll be building up a whole album before it is born!!

hello everyone !
not been hear for a while been feeling a bit lonely and sorry for myself.
hows everyone doing? hopefully well .This is my 25th week and it's been okay, did'nt get a 20 week scan and hoping baby is okay , went to the doctor for a check up the other day and the heart beat is really strong but that's all I've got to go on and I've had to adopt a 'Nature Knows Best' attitude to everything.I just feel sad thinking when baby comes it will just be me and DP's family as I have absolutely no family in the UK -sorry got a touch of the pre baby blues, only got 15weeks to go, I say 'only' because it's incredible just how quickly the past 25 have gone by .
Hope everyone is having a good day today
xx

weeonion · 25/10/2006 12:54

aaw anjo - hello honey. sorry to hear you are a bit blue. it can be hard to think of not having all yr folks close at hand. there seems to be a few of us in that boat. ifi remeber - u r in hamilton? there is geordie pn this thread who is in sth lanarkshire as well. maybe a meet up would be a good idea to keep our chins up???
where are you originally from?

big higs yr way babe

Vio · 25/10/2006 13:20

Hi everyone,

Well, my family and friends are in HK though I've got a few friends down in Kent...when i first got here..I suffered from home sick but I think i am now feeling better..I love Glasgow, we bought a house here and would want to build our lives in Scotland. I am pregnant now and I am trying to be strong & positive. I believe Scotland is a perfect place for children cos I think Hong Kong is too busy and too competitive.

I know I don't have many friends here but I think I will make friends in the future ( at least I have already made a few here !!!) I think I have been given some good advice from you gals...

Right, I am going to book my 20wks scan cos think its important to check the development of the baby. My hushand wants to find out the sex so i guess I will ask.

Geordie, good luck with your scan!!! everything will be fine and you will be v.happy to see your little one!!!

Anjo1 · 25/10/2006 13:22

hello weeonion-thank you X
A meet up is probably a good idea ,I know geordie is in Uddingston, that's just the next place along from Hamilton .Where are you ?
I'm usually okay I think the loneliness has been made worse by not working these past few weeks -I was temping and my assignment finished and I'm trying to get more work at the moment, (as soon as you say you're pregnant they don't want to know)and i just started thinking omg , this is waht it's going to be like when baby comes -just me all day ,on my own .
I'm originaly from Zimbabwe , been in Scotland about 6 and a half years now ,most of that time in Edinburgh.Where in Ireland are you from ?

Vio · 25/10/2006 13:24

hi lollipop, you mentioned the one near George Square costs £75 for 20wks scan? do you have the name and is it just like the one you do with the hospital. why is it that Nuffield costs £200 then? does you think Nuffield is supposed to be better?

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 13:26

Think Glasgow Fort would be a good place to meet.. as its about half way, and it has Starbucks!!!! Might be a few weeks though as I'm so busy at the moment, as I'm sure everyone else is!!!

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 13:28

think the one in George Square is more a sexing and growth scan, the one at the Nuffield is a medical scan, they check growth development organs etc?

weeonion · 25/10/2006 13:40

hey ladies! u know - i have never been to glago fort so that might be a great idea! shall we all wear pink carnations???

anjo - i am frm northern ireland - kinda lived all over it and we have been here for over 3 yrs. i still find it a bit hard to get settled in mainly cause i live just off alexandra parade in glasgow (bout 1 mile frm my hosptial - might be handy for labour day!!!!) but work in edinburgh.

vio - i think geordie is right - the nuffield is a full medical growth check - all the organs etc etc wheread others may be more focused on the dvd of the scan - not so much on the checking / diagnosis.

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 13:46

Ooooo its a great place... dp and I go there most sundays, it has a lovely big borders book shop with a starbucks in so we take up residence there with the sunday papers and cakes!!!! There are loads of nice shops, new loo, river island, mamas and papas, tk maxx all sorts!!!!

Anjo1 · 25/10/2006 14:05

Weeonion- I know what you mean about the settling in thing, I was commuting to work in Edinburgh until about a year ago, my social circle was all in edinburgh(still is !) cause that's where I spent most of my time.

Glasgow Fort sounds like a good place for a meet up,how about the second weekend in November ?any later than that will be Christmas mad probably -any thoughts on that ?

weeonion · 25/10/2006 14:14

why dont we try and arrange it then?? i put a bid in for a weekend - easier for work reasons!

wont it be weird to see each other for real

weeonion · 25/10/2006 14:18

i have started my xmas shopping already - a fair bit done but i reckon there will be a tighter budget this year.
after we have told folks the news - it is really sweet cause different people are offering to buy us bits - my parents have opted for teh pram / buggy! have u ever heard of a baby list? a friend had one where she listed all the things she wanted and gave it to people. i had never heard of that before.

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 14:20

My mum is buying pram too... she has insisted that it be the best one for her first grandchild!! SHe has also decided that she will need a buggy and clothes and all sorts of other things to keep at hers!!! She has even seen a baby bean bag!!!

That weekend works for me although it would have to be the sunday as I am going to see Cats at the theatre on the saturday afternoon!!!

Vio · 25/10/2006 14:22

Nuffield said they only do evening appt on Monday. I want to book an evening appt cos then my hushand can go without having to take time off.

I suppose i can book either the 4 dec or 11 Dec. I will be 20wk + 3 days on 4 dec / or / 21 wks + 3 days on 11 dec.

Do you think i should book the 4 Dec or 11 Dec?

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 14:30

Oooh thats a bit rubbish.. I'm not 20 weeks until the week before xmas.. so I will have to have mine done 1 day before I'm 20 weeks or on xmas day... ha!!! Best get booked soon...

Dont think it will make a difference for you, I would go for the earlier one, but thats cos I am impatient!!!

weeonion · 25/10/2006 14:40

nuffield offered me both monday and wednesday evening appts.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

like you GMM - i would go for the earlier one on the 4th dec. i am booked for the 27th nov when i will be coming up on 20weeks. i wanted mine sooner rather than later. i did have one booked for the 4th dec but felt that was a bit late if anything was really wrong..........

weeonion · 25/10/2006 14:41

LOL GMM - our parents must think alike. mum is planning on having a cupboard at theirs for when we visit with stuff as well. in the 5 days since she found out apparently she has been given a travel cot, a booster high chair seat and a car seat. thats a woman on the case

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 14:44

I'm laughing at you now, "working from home" you are doing about the same amount of work as me and everyone else in here as the 2 bosses are away!!!

Vio · 25/10/2006 14:48

My mum is the same, she called me yesterday saying shes going to buy this and that..and when i said we are looking for nursery furniture and that we want to have the room ready by Mar...my mum said she wants me to wait until she arrives ( in Mar ) so she can choose as well!!!

Anyway, book it on 11 Dec cos they can offer me 7pm with Dr. Cameron, which is good cos 7pm is perfect..don't think it makes much diff to me either 4 or 11 Dec... I can't wait to get another scan pic to show my family..do u think we will get a DVD as well?

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 14:54

Its your musm first grandchild too Vio?

I think I will book mine on Friday once we've had this scan.

My mum has just been on the fone, she has found a clinc near her that does a sexing scan at 16 weeks... I think she is going to kidnap me in a few weeks and take me there!!! Did I tell you all she is coming up tonight to come with me tomorrow?

weeonion · 25/10/2006 15:03

LOL - i love the excitement that is around us all- new babies!! imagine what yr house will be like tonight GMM when she arrives! bet she has a wee pressie for you! what time are you on the scanning table at 2morro?

i have been so bad today - i cant help spending my days thining about/ looking up info on / generally dreaming about this baby. this is not like me - i am usually focused career lady......

just think by the end of april - w'll have our beans and be able to be out in the spring weather (read rain for that in scotland!) with our brand new buggies / prams!

geordiemacminx · 25/10/2006 15:06

I know, I am exactly the same, I have 4 internet pages open, MN, ebay, hotmail and a spare!!! I have done absolutely nothing today. Been after one of those big pillow things cos I am so uncomfortable at the moment.. dp slept in th ebunk beds last night so I had the whole bed to myself which was fab... he probably prefered it in there mind you since I spent most of yesterday afternoon being sick!!!!

Vio · 25/10/2006 15:10

yes, think we are indeed v.lucky cos our babies will be born in Apr/May ...perfect weather in Scotland....!!! the weather would be sooooo lovely by then.

Yes, first grandchild for my mum and first great grandchild for my grandmum...everyone back home is v.excited.
