...what are you/did you do about a winter coat?

It might seem a really minor problem, considering all the other stuff that needs sorting/worrying about, but I think I'm fixating on it to blot out all the other shite

I'm due in early Jan and got an 8 YO DD who was born at start of Dec, but I can't remember for the life of me what I did when I was preg with her! I have to walk an hour a day to take DD to/from school and can't afford to get a huge tent of a coat just for a few months.

Any help would be appreciated

I bought a loose fit coat one size up...it did the job.

I guess it depends what kind of coat you mean. Something for walking that'll keep you warm? I tend to chuck on dh's North Face coat which is huge and has plenty of room... I don't have a smart one yet, so I'll watch with interest (though I don't do nearly as much walking as you!)

Got a big one a few sizes bigger than my normal size from Primark and chucked it at the end!

i had a chocolate brown north face down jacket. a kind colleague pointed out that i looked like a malteser. when it finally wouldn't do up, i left it undone and tied a pashmina thing round my middle.

could something like this work? Maybe not exactly this style, but something similar? It looks like it could accommodate a bump.

I just got a cheap primark one a couple of sizes bigger and used loads of scarves. I couldn't bring myself to spend too much money on a one season coat!

I just went up a couple of sizes in a cheap coat and then made sure if it was particularly cold that wore big thick jumper etc.

I have january and february babies and i never bought a coat for either.... my body temp goes nuts when preg, with dd i had dp frozen to death as i had every door and window open constantly. With ds2 i wasn't as bad but still found dp's hoodies were warm enough... too warm sometimes

I'm likely to have the babies delivered just before Christmas so admittedly not a whole winter but I'm not going to bother. I find pregnancy hot, and have bought a thick chunky long cardigan and was just going to go with layers, scarf etc.

Im due Dec 11th and ive just bought my Winter coat from Red Herring maternity, its navy blue wool mix in a military style. Its my new favourite thing, trouble is the day after I bought it the weather suddenly decides to be nice and sunny, so havent had chance to wear it yet

I almost never do my coats up anyway, so just wore them with a scarf.

I had a long, knee-length, Bench knitted hooded cardigan thingy which stretched over the bump and zipped up. If that wasn't enough on its own I would add a normal coat on top and just do up the top buttons.

I wore my Bench thing to bits and could really do with another one for this pg actually

When I was pregnant with DTs (born Jan) I got a lovely winter coat in M&S but bought a size 14 (am normally a 10). Then I donated it to my lucky sister once I had given birth .

With DS1 (born Feb) I just wore normal coats but unbuttoned I think, definitely had no maternity coat / jacket etc.

Too hot with dd (born Jan) just had fleeces and cardis, I don't feel so warm though this time due 7th Jan. I've bought a 3/4 length parka style coat mamas and papas from ebay £2.20 to cover me if it rains/windy, on days off dd and I will walk 3.9 miles to town. I tried on a big waterproof coat but felt like a teletubby in it!! Bought a scrummy warm hoodyt from Next and waterproof gloves for pushing the buggy.

I've just bought a Swing coat, £25 in tesco. Hoping it will do for pregnancy and after. Its fitted round the chest but then flares out quite a bit.

I bought a long straight smart coat but its only got three buttons at the top so bump stuck out over the winter time. I wear it when not pg too as its not maternity but if you feel the cold your belly may turn blue. I was like an oven when pg and this coat was sufficient.

Wore a poncho or wrap type thing first time, then nicked DHs body warmer and bought a right old geezer Arthur Daly sheepskin for £8 on ebay. I still ove that best and have shifted the buttons so I can wear it to walk the dog.
