I hope you've all had a nice Christmas - I got my date through for my section today - it's April 29th - bit weird knowing your baby's birthday in advance Would be cool if it came on it's own say a week before then - unlikely though.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 01/01/2010 19:39

Aww Jacanne, sounds like a good date to me it's always nice and warm in April, too.

My scan went well, baby's heart is getting better so I don't have to keep trapsing across the country and can have a normal delivery. Hmm... Now I'm worried about the baby coming out that way

Had to see GP yesterday as midwife cancelled my appointment. Baby's heart was meant to be between 120-160 and she said it was between 119-185. But didn't send me to the hospital. Then she measured my tummy but didn't know how to plot it on the graph. it's easy peasy so I did it when I got home and the baby is WAY above the top line. About half an inch. Quite worried about that and should have been sent for a growth scan but I haven't been. Can't see the midwife for a couple of weeks now as I'll be working.

Soooo.... what do I do?

Jacanne · 02/01/2010 10:54

Good news about the HR Totally - I can't remember - have you got Gestational Diabetes? If so perhaps you should try to make another app with the MW to get her to check it all.

I am off for my gender scan in a couple of hours

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 02/01/2010 11:49

Oooo do you have a preference? I wanted a girl but told everyone I wanted a boy as they kept saying if it was a boy they'd put it back in there so I felt like I had to defend it Looking forward to having a girl though, managed to get a few sales bits.

I've still got to get:
cot mattress- where can I get a cheap one?
An angel sound and movement monitor- same q.
A P&T Sport double- same q again???

Need to do things supercheap.

I have masses of glucose in my wee every appointment but I don't have gest diabetes... now she's measuring huge and I'm a little worried that they've made a mistake. I might just page midwife and ask her to phone me.

Jacanne · 02/01/2010 16:11

You could be borderline I guess - my friend was the same in her first 2 pregnancies but wasn't diagnosed with it until her 3rd.

Well, we have 2 girls already and.....it's a girl!!! I had a feeling it would be. This time round I was really not that bothered - it will be considerably cheaper as we have stacks of girls clothes put by in the loft. We have just bought a car as we need a 7 seater now - I feel a bit superstitious about having bought it already but it was there and the right price (considerably cheaper than many we were looking at) so we went for it.

My Mum did a little stocking for the baby at Christmas so she already has some bits bought for her.

Jacanne · 02/01/2010 16:12

Totally - try Kiddicare.com - they are vastly cheaper than anywhere else for all kinds of baby things and I've always had good service from them.

Meita · 02/01/2010 18:24

Hey ladies,

A belated happy new year to you all!

good to hear that your baby's heartrate has stabilised, totally. Unfortunately I cannot help with cheap baby-stuff - will have to find out about that myself in due course, if everything goes well. Did you try e-bay?

Jacanne wow, three girls! That sounds like fun. My mum grew up with three sisters and so did her mum (my granny) - do you think you might be trying for a fourth someday?

I'm now at 7w4d (due 17th August) and am starting to believe that it might actually all work out. I've had a few moments of panic, but since Christmas Eve I've just been feeling sick (not being sick though) so there is not much room left for worrying - but I suppose I will only start breathing freely if/when I see a good strong heartbeat on the scan on 2nd February. It is still a whole month until then... sigh. I just hope this feeling sick all the time will stop sometime. I've got work to do. Haven't been very productive at all recently...

CakeandFineWine · 02/01/2010 20:10

Hello ladies [waving]

Can I join you please, I've been on the TTC MC thread for a few months and finally got my BFP on 27th DEC

Just updated my number of weeks and had a rough guess at everyone else's number of weeks.. so they could be WAY out now, please check.

Jacanne- aw three little sisters will be nice and imagine when they get to clubbing age- they'll go out together and look after each other. I'll check kiddicare again. Preciouslittleone is a good site too.

Meita- I thought you were further on than 7 weeks. I felt really sick at 7 weeks- have you tried ginger beer? The midwife told me to try that. I didn't as I detest ginger.

Cake- congratulations what a lovely xmas prezzi. This is definately a good thread for you as you'll probably be feeling anxious after last time. I've got my fingers well and truly crossed that all goes well for you, I'm sure it will

Added myself to the list - feeling positive right now ;)

Totally, no, alas I haven't even reached 8 weeks yet (just checked to make sure ). Time is moving excruciatingly slowly. But at least I have two appointments coming up to look forward to - booking in with the midwives on the 14th, and first scan on 2nd February.
I've tried ginger everything (except beer) and I think it works, the problem is just that I am finding it very hard to make myself drink/eat it. Or anything. I'm constantly hungry but have zero appetite. Please tell me this phase passes soon ;)

Welcome Cake

Here's me hoping that Boodle will join this thread (again) soon too !

Hello everyone and welcome to the new people. Great news on the twins apples, and glad to hear that everyone in the early stages is getting along fine. I'm 27+3 today, and starting to really get quite big! Thankfully it all still seems to be going on the bump and not elsewhere, but the scales have told me this morning that I've put on 9kg so far which I'm not happy about.

We started buying a few baby things in the sales on Saturday - cot and bedding, play mat, clothes, etc. Still need to decide on a pushchair. I'm leaning towards a Maclaren XLR (plus the carrycot), as I want something easy to use on public transport that will fit in the boot of the car (Peugeot 206). We already have a Baby Bjorn as well, but I can't decide if we should go for a pushchair that does rear facing as well... I really wish there were fewer to choose from. Can any non first-timers give me some advice?

Meita · 06/01/2010 11:14

Hello ladies,
I hope you are all ok and not suffering too much from the snow! I for one quite like it - but then, we don't have a car and I don't need to go anywhere right now, so the travel problems aren't affecting me. My sister on the other hand was due to fly home from Manchester to Geneva yesterday, but is still in Manchester now... She couldn't even make it to the train station. If she had, it wouldn't have helped, as the train was cancelled. And if it hadn't and she had made it all the way to the airport, it wouldn't have been any use anyway as the plane was cancelled too. I'm just hoping she will have more luck today!

Wii Fit told me that I had lost 3lb - over Christmas. And I didn't throw up even once. It's just the lack of appetite. I've been trying to make myself eat, and especially drink, more. If it just weren't for the cooking first. Cooking is awful and hard to motivate myself for given that I'm not even looking forward to the eating part.

I realise this sounds a bit moany... sorry about that, I'm not really complaining. It's just getting to be a bit boring.

Ok DP and me can be a bit geekish. And we give each other little gifts throughout the year, so often we are a bit at a loss for gifts at Christmas time. So when we were talking about possible ideas for gifts for each other, I suggested we could get a private early scan as a gift for ourselves; but later I decided I wasn't really sure if I wanted one. Instead, what DP got me is a stethoscope. A real one, the same model that medical students usually get for themselves... The idea is that perhaps we can eventually hear baby's heartbeat with it. For me it is not really about reassurance, but more about letting DP experience the bean in a concrete way and start relating. Ultrasound scans can do that but they are few and far between, and focus on the visual - people these days tend to neglect the audio a bit.
Of course I have no idea whatsoever from when on we could expect to hear anything. But while DP is away in the US for work, I've been playing around with the stethoscope, listening to my own heartbeat, my lungs, the gurgling of my digestion... also listening to our cat's purring, and her heartbeat
And so whilst playing around I also pressed the bit to my lower abdomen. Lots of gurgling, and I could make out my own heartbeat, and there was sort of a background sound, like the roaring of a waterfall far away. And then, just for a moment, I thought I heard the roaring break up into a fast little heartbeat. I'm not exaggerating when I say my own heart skipped a beat! I couldn't reproduce it, so probably it was all my imagination playing tricks on me. Still, I might just have heard the bean's heartbeat for the first time. So I've started the day with a big smile on my face
Sorry for a very long post - I just wanted to share this

Meita · 09/01/2010 15:53

OMG have I killed the thread?

hoops997 · 10/01/2010 11:40

Helle everyone,

Happy new year to you all, how is everyone getting on, I'm now 28+2 and feeling ok but starting to get niggly pain in my pelvis everytime I walk, which is quite concerning......but I have decided to give work up this week, I'm getting too emotional for my job! (I work at a crematorium)not very professional when the attendant is crying more than the mourners, and also can't stand to see baby funerals.....

Anyway looking forward to staying in bed and generally doing bugger all until I meet mini-hoops

Has everyone heard about boodleboot? She got another BFP on the 2nd Jan and is waiting for an early scan before she comes to join us on this thread....

Well mini-hoops is now thrashing about all the time and managed to kick DP in the ear when he was trying to listen to his heartbeat!! Can no longer find his heartbeat with my doppler because he doesn't like it and either kicks it off or moves so much that all I can hear is high-pitched noises that hurt my ears!

Anyway I hope everyone continues to use this thread I like hearing about everyone else's progress especially as we are all at different stages

Anyway I'm off to have a nice cup of tea and a xxx

Totally..fab news about baby's heart.

CakeandFineWine · 10/01/2010 17:42

Hello all, popping into say hello!

Got my early scan date thro on Fri so 2 weeks tomorrow I'll hopefully know that all is OK, I'll be exactly 8 weeks that day so fingers everything crossed

amyboo · 11/01/2010 10:11

Hello hello. Glad to hear that everything was fine on Friday memory, and exciting news about the early scan date cake. Fingers crossed for you.

I just had another scan this morning to look at the kidney dilation they found on my 22 week scan. Apparently it has grown significantly since the last scan. It's still only on his right kidney, which I guess is good, and they said it shouldn't affect his development, but needs to be monitored again in 4 weeks. I'm hoping it might go away on its own, otherwise there's a risk he might have to have surgery when he's born Am trying not to worry, but it's not very easy. Am going to ring my gynae this evening to ask him about the consequences, etc.

Great news about boodle as well. Hope everything goes well for her this time.

Meita · 12/01/2010 16:53

Ah, there you all are!

hoops I hope the pelvis-pains haven't developed into anything sinister. Leaving work sounds great. How did you survive the early months at that job? I would have been in tears all the time!

memory I'm glad everything was fine in the scan, it's such a relief. Congrats on your new home!

cake I'm a bit about your early scan... Have to wait for my first until 2nd Feb when I'll be past 12 weeks. But will have fingers crossed for you that everything is fine!

amyboo that does sound scary. Obviously you're worried! But I'm sure they will take good care of you and your baby, and if he indeed needs surgery, well then it's for the best that you know already, and can plan and prepare for it. Much better than panicking when he's rushed away after birth and not knowing what is going on. But even better of course would be if everything goes back to normal. Did you find out more about consequences etc?

I'm a little nervous about midwife booking-in appointment coming up on Thursday... Otherwise doing ok, though not getting much work done. I hope that will improve soon, as will get in serious deadline troubles otherwise. Oh and btw I'm 9 weeks today
Hope you are all doing well!

Meita · 14/01/2010 13:07

Hello ladies!

totally I think I remember you were going to have a scan today. I hope it went well and everything is alright!

Had my booking in appointment with midwives today. DP came too. We had to wait nearly 40 minutes but I suppose you just can't time these things very precisely.
The whole thing wasn't very interesting, we didn't learn much we didn't know already, though it was good to hear that the nearest hospital has apparently made a big turnaround since the quite appalling survey on it in 2007.
When they took blood, I fainted on them. I tend to do that and had warned them, and was lying down as a precaution, but they couldn't make enough blood come out so I had to sit up to increase the blood pressure or something, and voilà, of course I fainted. DP said it was quite scary as apparently I started making strange choking sounds, but all is well again now - I suppose it is just one of these things.
So that's that - next big date is in two weeks and 5 days when I have my first scan.

I hope you and your beans are all doing well!

hoops997 · 14/01/2010 18:41

I had to go to the doc's today and it looks like my pelvis pains are going to turn into SPD, am in agony, can't walk more than 100 metres without being in pain!!

meita I totally love my job and found it quite easy to distance myself from the funerals until of course I fell pg, now can't look at a coffin without bursting into tears!! Hence one of the reasons why I'm leaving work tomorrow woo hoo

How is everyone getting on?

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 17/01/2010 14:10

Hi all,

Haven't been around much lately as I'm having a shite time and SICK of hearing myself moaning. Baby's heartbeat's all wonky again, she's HUGE so I'm having to have growth scans, my contractions seem to be getting worse by the night, I can literally barely walk from SPD, work are being sheer ARSEHOLES and as I'm a contractor it looks like they've decided to sack me when I go back after maternity leave because boss can't have kids so she hates me. I think I must have like chronic fatigue or something, I can barely keep my eyes open and my depression is so bad I keep thinking about just driving into a wall or something. I also have a lump in my boob.

Fab.

Anyway, Meita glad to hear your hospital have booked their ideas up It's nice to know they know what they're doing isn't it?

I was stood outside labour ward the other day and a man was telling me his wife was in labour but the baby had already died. She'd been in labour for two days. If they'd taken the baby out when they did a scan the day before, she'd be alive now, but the placenta deteriorated. The lesson for all us ladies is keep pushing them all the time, keep asking questions and make a nuisance of yourself. She was actually at her due date.

Amy- a lot of things with babies in the womb correct themselves when they're born so please don't worry too much for the moment. We've been told not to panic too much about baby's heartbeat as they reckon she won't need surgery as it'll sort itself when she gets out.

Cake glad you've got a scan date. You'll start to sleep a bit better after that. I know I did after my early scan.

Memory- Omg how do they blow bubbles? That is sooooooooo cute!!

I didn't know about Boodle but I'm so glad to hear it. Can't wait for her to come and join... if I haven't moved on to the had-our-babies thread by then as I've a feeling this baby is coming soon- which the midwife and consultant also think! So 2 more weeks at work is going to be iffy.

I'm actually going to start on the raspberry leaf tea as you're supposed to start it at week 34 and I want baby to get out so I can cuddle her and stop panicking about her. Plus my body and mind seem to be deteriorating so fast and I can't stop thinking about eating dishwasher tablets and pickled beetroot.

Hope I haven't brought everyone down too much.

amyboo · 18/01/2010 09:19

Sorry to hear you're not doing so well totally. Don't worry about moaning thogh - I'm sure we'll all be joining you on that front before long!

Nasty news about the SPD hoops. Hope you're enjoying having finished work though? Another 8 weeks to go for me...

I spoke with the gynae about the scan results. Apparently the kidney dilation is significant, but still not terribly worrying. I have plenty of amniotic fluid which apparently means baby's kidneys are working, so there's no blockage. They will have to monitor me for the rest of my pregnancy and make sure it stays that way. When he's born, baby will need to have an ultrasound to check the dilation, and then possibly a kidney function test to check for "reflux" of urine back to his kidneys. They will only operate if there's reflux. Otherwise they'll just monitor it every 2-6 months and it should go away on its own. Phew.

Glad to hear that although a bit worrying, mini-boo's kidney is mendable, I hope it will sort itself out and he won't need surgery after he pops out.

well I have now finished work but in a lot of pain with my hips and pelvis, hopefully it won't get too bad and I will still be able to walk in a few weeks time......
