Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Pen name is a good idea JW. I shall be known as Araminta Corkington-Smythe, and don't you forget it. . Of course, when I appear on daytime TV my cover will be blown, but let's face it that's unlikely to happen ever in the very near future.

Not sure what DD is up to. She has been a little madam recently so is maybe making up for that, though how many 11 yr olds have a crisis of conscience? Perhaps Thursday is looming with First Day of Big School written all over it and she's staying close to her old mum but any anxieties she has are extremely well hidden - she's raring to go! Mean of me to be suspicious I suppose, but it's years of experience that have done this to me...

johnworf · 01/09/2009 13:02

In my experience, you are right to be an old cynic and suspicious. They are usually hatching some plan or other.

Like the pen name. Does this mean I'll be shouting Araminta all night and you won't take any notice? When I was temping at Granada telly there was someone who worked there called Ghisella Rockeforte-Steedman. Seriously. She wasn't an actress just a secretary.

Lunch beckons......

jeanjeannie · 01/09/2009 13:29

Oh wow - how much more wailing from an over-tired toddler can I take?????

dawntigga I shall go through my nappy box - got a few Motherease (brill nick) I shall get back to you - probably pop you a note via FB and let you know. Oh, I'm expecting Kimberly's friend to look like This!

erm I completely understand - it's a shame some of the other 'known' literary faces/journos don't have such a lack of ego as yourself! I feel bleurgh when I read their columns and it's basically all MN inspired and then they're like the big fish in the MN pond...yuk. There's a real penchant for the 'real-life, laid bare journo hack thing ATM .... Oooo, if you're Kate Mosse i'll be thrilled I like her - think she's a good presenter of 'A Good Read' She looks nice- I think I'd like her!

LOL@Araminta - we were out the other day in Oxfod and we met a RL toddler Araminta and brother Caspian...

jw when you were temping at Granada jw please tell me you went to Corrie... I was made redundant from a job on a hair mag just as I was about to go an interview Audrey for a spoof Xmas special on her salon. Gutted I was!

All quiet upstairs - I bet Iris has fallen asleep on the floor.

OK - what can I do with literally 100s of mushrooms?

johnworf · 01/09/2009 13:44

Hmmmm hundreds of mushrooms eh? Make a soup? Lots of soup.....

Poor Iris Still, the children are back next week (latest) so she can go back to softplay and all the nice things that shall be big child-free

Never went on the corrie set. We weren't even allowed to look at the celebrity's that popped in...let alone speak to them. It was at the time of the Free Deirdre Rashid campaign. Used to see people outside the studios when I was going in to work campaigning for her release

johnworf · 01/09/2009 13:51

Drat. Meant to say, free P&P for White Stuff with the code: garden

mrsboogie · 01/09/2009 14:02

we shall swear an oath of secrecy in blood Erm I mean Arm..

I certainly wouldn't want my real name given out on here either (have done too much nattering about people I know and work and such )

I have no idea who the big fish are on here jj - I prefer it that way as I believe all fish are equal sized in a forum like this actually I tell a lie I can think of two big fish...

erm the blanket is very religious and sentimental - I'm sure my mum would love it but it is to my mind very ehm funereal... oh hang on - it was on tee's profile so you can see it.

well the tiling's done, doesn't look too bad if I say so meself, it was completed to the soundtrack of a bored and whiny 1 yr old so mean mummy has to make up for it now with a trip to the swings...

johnworf · 01/09/2009 14:05

We have fish amongst us?? Name names and out the blighters! I'm not one. I'm more your hamster. Or feral pigeon

Tee2072 · 01/09/2009 14:32

erm, I mean arm, as others have said, there's a picture on my profile. BTW, my husband is betting you are JK Rowling.

dawn DH was raised Church of Ireland, I am Jewish. So basically? It is a bit offensive to me. It will never be used in this house.

Gee JJ how did you know that's exactly how I look.

What kind of mushrooms?

dawntigga · 01/09/2009 16:38

Ladies if we are using nomming plumes can I be Gytha Ogg?

jj I'd love to look like her but I'd ride a decent bike

WouldLoveToBeEsmeButDeepDownKnowsSheIsReallyGythaTiggaxx

BonzoDoodah · 01/09/2009 17:26

Hey all - Love those links jj and I'd hope to be up for a spa day too. Just need to get demon brat to be settled and into some sort of routine.... as if!

Tee dodgy blanket - especially if you are not religious. Tough not truly hideous - just not your taste(or mine AT all).

Tee2072 · 01/09/2009 18:11

I don't know if anyone else saw, but duchesse put on her child birth thread that the baby had pulled out her feeding tube, the docs had removed the cannula and they are probably going home tomorrow!

jeanjeannie · 01/09/2009 18:19

Evening all...bed yet?

Oooooo bonzo that'd be FAB if you can make it and when you rock up we'll know exactly how you'll look You've gotta admit it - the woman has almost stolen your hair

dawntigga isn't she a Pratchett witch? Great name. LOL@ decent bike...do tell, what is a decent bike as we have one that my DP hasn't used for FOUR years....someone please relieve us of ittee PMSL@ 'what kind of mushrooms' Ah, sadly the boring kind not the ones guarenteed to make you think that In the Night Garden is RL

That blanket is indeed a talking point although I personal love the occasional bit of religious art. DP's Dad has some fab Serbian Orthodox Icons. Not in the least bit religious me, but I'd love a couple in the hall!

mrsBoogie isn't your real name Well done on the tiling...I take my hat off to you. Have you and hedgepig thought about teaming up. "Boogiepig The pink tool-belt posse - for all your home improvement needs" Oooo, shall I get flyers done?

OK off to make DP's dinner now - while still laughing at thought of jw freeing Deirde!

ermintrude13 · 01/09/2009 18:28

Sadly I'm not famous in the slightest. It's not a question of 'outing' me, more like MrsB says, one talks ahem freely on MN and there are people like my in-laws who I'd rather not read what I've said about them, as well as lots of family stuff which I would normally only tell close friends in RL.

Tee I suppose there are angels in the old testament, maybe the cleaners thought they were interchangeable with cutsie christian ones. Either way, nafforama.

Good news abot Duchesse - hope you and babe are home very soon m'dear.

johnworf · 01/09/2009 18:41

ermintrude I don't recall seeing any gossip about your in-laws. Could you please re-type it for my benefit?

Actually, and I don't mean this in an offencive way, I don't recall much about your family apart from your children who are just normal children from the sounds of things. I'm sorry that I should have been paying more attention. You may smack my wrists.

I thought it was Nanny Ogg in Pratchett books? Has been a while since I last read one though........

bonzo hope you manage to tame 'the brat' in time to join us. I'm sure he's nowhere near brattish

Hadn't seen the good news re duchesse and duchette but hurrah! all the same (In northern accent) 'eeeeh we grow 'em t'be 'ard on this 'ere thread'.

dawntigga · 01/09/2009 19:05

jj she is a Prachett witch she isn't the Prachett witch Any old big 4 really, or a Hyabusa in a Steel Heart frame with a big bore nox kit and 38ml Mikuni flat slides. Much yummyness

jw it's Gytha Ogg and Esme Weatherwax

Tee2072 · 01/09/2009 19:11

I was serious in asking what kind of mushrooms, you druggie JJ!! I would suggest various things based on the type of mushroom!!

In other news, I received a beautiful blanket handmade from my 2nd cousin today. That one I'll use!!

johnworf · 01/09/2009 19:14

Needs a translator to understand dawntigga

mrsboogie · 01/09/2009 19:38

Yeahhh... me too. It's a bit like when you guys talk about reusable nappies...

johnworf · 01/09/2009 19:47

AWww mrsb nappies are straightforward. And in English!

mrsboogie · 01/09/2009 20:37

ahh it's all fillers and liners and weaves and fleeces and topcoats and linings and wraps these days and no mention of a safety pin at all

iris66 · 01/09/2009 20:53

it's all the extra washing that's stumped me at the moment mrsb

johnworf · 01/09/2009 20:59

hehe mrsb. No pins just nappy nippas

jeanjeannie · 01/09/2009 21:02

Ah iris there you are! Wondered where you'd been but now I see.....you've been washing nappies

jw have you not heard about erm's in-laws? looks round furtively

Oh I'm so mushroom filled. I made a carbonara with dull mushrooms (sorry tee I see where you were coming from now!) and lardons...and now I feel a lard-ass.

Have changed so many black nappies today....it's the vast quantities of blueberries and blackberries the girls have been eating. So much for their 5-a-day!

jeanjeannie · 01/09/2009 21:07

Hehehe or Velcro jw now re-named Aplix! Poor mrsB

mrsboogie · 01/09/2009 21:16

ooooh yes...erm's inlaws...hmmm.
