Routine schmootine! Gawd, Iris has gone all over the place and has yet again conked out! Screaming, hissy fits - over-tired but not tired after lunch - grrrrrr! Now it means there's another late eve ahead

jw good to hear that K like hummous - add that to the list!

Hope your DH is feeling better. DP has come to Dave Gorman late - through Genius on R4. I shall show him Googlewhacked. I loved the tracking of Dave Gormans worldwide - thought that was brill.

Verity is being SO high maintenance - got to be with her 24/7 - driving me nuts! Get me a book on routine someone!

Tee2072 · 18/08/2009 16:39

heron sorry if our laughing at the routine idea made you feel bad or anything. I do find it a fairly silly idea to even try, but, as you said, its not for everyone.

JW hummous is a good thing to eat!! Better than Smarties!!

Adam has been being very cooperative today, sleeping for at least an hour at a time in something other than my arms! I think someone switched babies on me!! Of course, he hurt my feelings this morning when Daddy got an adoring look and a huge smile when I haven't ever gotten either. Why do they do that?!?!

mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 16:57

'ullo all

have been awol as we have been moving things round and attempting to childproof the ground floor of the house -internet knocked out. D can now roam freely and the main living area is like a giant playpen with gates everywhere. The cat just came back from a night on the tiles and was most disconcerted to see the changes made in his absence. Also is deeply unimpressed at having to ask to be let in and out of the kitchen doorway gate to get to his bowl.

The mouth infection appears to be on the wane although it is weird at night when the inside of your mouth hurts when you are asleep - I am really conscious of it and it woke me several times..

did you enjoy the film jw? glad K was fine and took the opportunity to bond with her big sis over an acid trip episode of ITNG. Many more nights out now for you and your DH I hope.?

We are supposed to be dumping D with grandparents and going for brunch and to see an early showing of Inglorius Basterds on Friday.

hullo to our two remaining preggers ladies and I hope you are not suffering too much. Was remembering myself this time last year when passing the hospital - waddling painfully to the clinic and home again to get into my pyjamas and wait... twas most yuk.

The thing I don't about the routine business is how it is meant to make thing any easier - I think it just makes things even harder when it doesn't work.

And how are you meant to give a little but extra at a feed? don't you always just give them as much as they will take? or have I been doing it all wrong all this time?

BonzoDoodah · 18/08/2009 18:02

Hi All - not a bad night last night thank goodness.

Mrs B I had that mouth thing .... it was really weird but it followed a really weird set of symptoms that I can't quite remember as it was about a year ago - sore mouth, metalic taste, then I think sore throat and then some other odd stuff that seemed really unrelated ... I went to the Dr who didn't know what it was but he gave me antibiotics - penicillin - and it started to go away the very next day. Then I mentioned it to my friend and she and her sister had the same thing exactly symptoms. So I phoned the Doc and told him so he could recognise it as a set disease and he was really interested. I mentioned the antibiotics and that it seemed to go anyway the next day but he said he thought it meant it was really sensitive to the penicillin - so..... (sorry going on so long) - if any of you still have it I'd ask the Doc for penicillin and it should go quick.

Tee PMSL at the routine!! What a larf!
My boy won't even let me dream feed him at midnight - mouth clamped shut and refusing to wake. Grrr.

Made 14lb of damson/plum jam last night - plus a crumble. Stoned about 4 lb of the blighters today and still have about 40lb of them left! jw have about 4 litres of home made sloe gin stashed under the stairs ... divine!

mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 18:24

interesting bonzo sounds v similar; pain in throat, weird taste in mouth, sore tongue with v painful bumps, never had anything like it before - imagine it is baby/nursery related as me and DP have both had it. Seems to be getting better now at least without any treatment.

mmm... damson crumble- I'll be round in a jiffy - get the custard on!!

mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 18:25

you may have to sterilise your spoons after I've gone...

johnworf · 18/08/2009 18:37

mrsb don't like the sound of communal dummies AT ALL! I'd have to have a word about that one. Can't you take a seperate pot in there with his name on it? Or even get a black marker and put his name on his?

I fancy the Inglorious Basterds film too. Was talking about it in the cinema before the film last night. I think we'll be pushing it to go out again for a while. DD#1 is still in recovery. K really did play up last night. I'm sure they know what to do (although how K knows seeing as we've not been out since she came home is a mystery. Unless it's innate).

Wow, so boogie towers is now a fortress no less? Impressive. I think we'll be working our way up to something similar in the near future. At least the glass tv stand is now out of the way until such time that I'm not worrying she'll crash head first through it. About 20 years then.

DSS not home until tomorrow. SiL rang to say he wanted to come back today (as agreed - doesn't sit well changing plans to an aspie child). He requested that DH make the drive to go and pick him up (only 120 mile round trip) to which he said no. Anyway, DH has been dizzy all day with medium rated headache so wasn't up for anything let alone driving.

Wonder how ermintrude is enjoying Edinburgh? DD#1 is going there next week for a couple of days to see festival and watch Faith No More. Alright for some.

JJ shitty when the LO's are overtired. You end up as frazzled as they are. Stick them in a tepid bath and let them cool off and straight to bed. Hopefully it should do the trick

tee no rewards for mummies. We're a martyr to the cause remember?

Still, if you want some entertainment, you could always go down to the courthouse and watch it burning............

mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 18:56

I didn't like the sound of it either, believe me jw - went in one day and D was sucking on a manky dummy that I didn't recognise, cue me going "this isn't his" and the assistant said "oh its a nursery dummy" and I said "I don't want him sucking on a dummy that another child has used (with, I suspect, a face like thunder) and she looked at me like I was mad.

Am planning to tell them after this week that he has been weaned off it and he isn't to have one. He'll have to do without when he is sleeping - he isn't massively bothered about it anyway.

can't blame your DH for not picking up DSS - driving while dizzy does not sound like a good plan!

D has only eaten a few spoonfuls today. Was earlier reading that NHS baby book that the hv gave me, it reckons that by a year they should be on 4 two course meals a day and only bottles morning and night . Not sure we are going to achieve that any time soon. D has only had a few spoonfuls of food today, all told. Didn't fancy it. Also last night, when he did fancy it, he was happily munching on some apple slices after his dinner then choked on a bit and threw up his dinner with the effort of getting it out.

It's funny how he can't manage to get a raisin or a small piece of food into his mouth without dropping it yet he was popping tiny pebbles and bits of twig into his gob in the park today at lightening speed while crawling away at full pelt!!

duchesse · 18/08/2009 19:10

Midwife did stretch and sweep today. Midwife said No. As in no chance of anything happening any time soon. They're coming back on Friday to have another go.

Annoying sister (the one who got pregnant as soon as she heard I was) has unilaterally decided to come and stay on Monday. She has a midwife appointment and thought she'd combine that with visiting me after my baby's born. If it's even born by then! Grrrrr. She's bringing her two boys (aged 11 and 5). I told her that if I went into labour while they were here she'd just have to take them out. I don't want to traumatise the poor little things. Even my two girls will be out of the house when I have the baby. At least they have been given the option of not being here, or being here if they want to be. My sister is really peeing me off bigtime. Is it fair to say that? If she behaves like a prima donna while she's here I will not be answerable for my actions... I'll be making the front page.

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 19:25

duchesse are you mad? tell her to sod off. She can't invite herself and two kids to stay with you as you are due to give birth! - are you planning a HB? not that it makes any difference..

tell her to stay in a flippin' hotel or something.

duchesse · 18/08/2009 19:26

Yes I am planning a HB. She's always so sensitive and thoughtful...

OP posts:
duchesse · 18/08/2009 19:27

I'm actually 40 +1 today so the chances of me giving birth while she's here are quite judging on past experience. She drives me fricking nuts.

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 19:32

Don't let her then! jeez, you need to be all serene and relaxed, not having your space invaded at a time like that.

HOTEL!

duchesse · 18/08/2009 19:36

Don't worry, MrsB. I'll just murder her serenely...

OP posts:
johnworf · 18/08/2009 19:40

duchesse don't hold back on upsetting her. Put yourself first. You really need to at a time like this (and her being pregnant herself should realise this). Give her a list of hotels nearby

I took the dummies off my older 3 at age 1. They screamed for a couple of days but got over it. Can't be doing with dummies after that age. They shouldn't need them and I think it interferes with their speech. Also, the longer you leave it the worse it gets imho. One job I won't have with K.

Only thing I give on a spoon to K these days is yoghurt and that has a 1/5 chance of being eaten. 2 spoonfuls of it today before the spoon was sent flying out of my hand. She had bread with hummous for lunch; licked off all the hummous and flung the bread. For tea she had tiny piece of chicken with bread and hummous. Repeat lunchtime arrangements for the hummous and rest of chicken on the floor. She's drinking lots of milk still! Not that bothered really. Some days (very, very, infrequently) she'll eat all of the yoghurt. She seems sprightly enough and I'm sure she'd eat if she was hungry enough. Hey ho.

We have her at the table in her highchair, eating with us. We all sit there like loons showing her how nice it is to eat food; grinning innanely. I even let her take food from my plate. It makes not one jot of a difference at the mo.

mrsboogie · 18/08/2009 20:26

same here jw

jeanjeannie · 18/08/2009 20:41

Evening all. Blimey - ears ringing again with the wails of not wanting to go to bed - hahaha DP is sorting them out!

mrsB OMG - the nursery dummy?? That's rank! I'd have gone doo-lally! And what's with this 4 two-course meals a day Blimey - no wonder we've got a nation of fat kids.

duchesse another OMG for you too! Blimey, I'd forgotten about your sister but she sounds every much of a prima donna as I remember. YOU think about YOU! FInd a lovely 'boutique' hotel for her - tell her you could never match their exacting standards. Actually, what would you do if you went into labour with her draping around your neck like a daemon? I'm thinking it'll be 'MrsDuchesse in the library with the lead piping' by the end of her stay - nowt serene in that

jw lol @the loons at dinner time - sounds so familiar. Does K have a go herself with the spoon/fork? Verity did but has now lost interest....she now loads the spoon and flicks it

Tonight I will be mainly making DP a birthday card. It involves making his fave CBeebies characters Nuzzle & Scratch driving in their tuk tuk while a pic of DP sits in the back smiling like a loon! Bless he's miserable about being 37 - keeps saying "how did I get here?" !! thirty-bloody seven....I wish!

johnworf · 18/08/2009 21:51

Oh your house sounds lovely tonight JJ. Can we swap?

I give K a spoon while I feed her but she has not connected the spoon to the food yet. She puts her hands in the food and puts the clean spoon in her mouth. Then the bowl/plate usually gets tipped up onto the floor.

Your card sounds nice. 37? I can't remember what I was doing when I was that age. Tell him he's lucky and to relish being below 40! DH is 40 this year. End of December. The night we conceived K in fact

I made a card y'day for niece for thursday. Exam results day. I'll put a piece of paper with the queens picture on it so that she can get thoroughly inebriated to celebrate. Not making one for DS#2 as he'll just want the cash.

Just watching Duchesse of York trying to polish a turd on a council estate in Manchester. I know that area. It's a shit hole. I'm sure bonzo will concur. She's either hard up for tv air time publicity or living on another planet if she thinks she can change that area.

Had an afternoon of ooh lala. Well, 15 minutes worth. Gotta make hay while the kids are out of the room

Tee2072 · 18/08/2009 22:00

Well, Little Man has once again sent himself off to bed around 9:30. Daddy is on night duty so if he's lucky A will stay down until 2 again. Of course, DH refuses to go to bed earlier than 11, ever, so he won't get much sleep anyway. And since he took tomorrow off, I'm betting he's up until 12 or later.

duchesse kick her ass.

JJ tell your DP that 37 is a mere boy. I was thinking the other day how I am already half way to 41. Man that half year went quickly...wonder why?

Off to bed myself. Thanking God once again for the luxury of the spare room!!

Neddie · 19/08/2009 08:09

Hi all
Have you popped yet Duchesse ? I will have mine a week tomorrow . Variation on groundhog day today as I get to see useless community midwife. Have discovered that DP likes apple crumble which is good as I can use up all the apples outside which have been attracting the wasps. Apparently they don't have apple crumble in Germany.
Will keep you posted on developments.

jeanjeannie · 19/08/2009 08:29

Morning ladies.

Any signs yet duchesse?

Neddie OOoooo, a week left - blimey I bet that can't come soon enough. No crumble in Germany - they're an odd bunch! There you go - that's your road to a fortune - a whole range range of "Neddie's Naughty Crumble" imported to the delight of the German palette

jw a WHOLE 15 mins. Better than we managed at the weekend. Snuck it a bit of Oooo La La in between two episodes of Come Dine With Me while the girls were snoozing See, I told you that you'd end up doing naughties if you went to the pictures!

Off to the Farm today with MIL. Apparently it's going to be 30 degrees Off to pack up sarnies, anti-melting cream and sun hats.

jeanjeannie · 19/08/2009 08:34

Oh - for those that remember one of our original, lovely members pwcbird - she's had a little boy - gabriel.

johnworf · 19/08/2009 08:44

JJ I have pwcbird on my FB and for the life of me couldn't remember her MN name! I saw the pics of the baby and he's lovely. Wonder what happened to her on our thread? Did she have a MC and then go on to get pregnant again? I really can't remember

Ah yes, Come Dine With Me...always a naughty ooh lala seduction technique. Actually ours was in the middle of DH watching Iron Man. Must be Robert Downey Junior (or Gwynnie) that does it for him. Maybe I got those two mixed up!

It's dull and overcast here and forecast rain so I think that there is indeed a north/south divide even when it comes to the weather. I hope you enjoy melting down on the farm

DSS is back today but then off again to his mother's on Friday. Last week off school next week and then back. Mixed feelings about that one

Gosh there's loads of people just announced they are pregnant; Jennifer ellison, tina Hobley and some others I cannot remember. Almost had a broody moment there!

neddie I adore apple crumble with custard. Make some and send it to me!

Tee2072 · 19/08/2009 09:09

Good morning.

Well, after a typical night, A woke up grunting and squirming and drifting in and out of sleep, culminating in huge vomit while half asleep in bouncy chair. Nothing as lovely as half digested formula in his neck folds . He's back asleep now and we are waiting to see how he is before we decide whether or not to stick to today's original plan of lunch out and shopping. DH took the day off.

Crap weather here, but rather have that than 30 degrees jj!! jw I can't believe its almost back to school! Where does the summer go??

heron22 · 19/08/2009 10:22

tee sorry to hear about the vomitting. i hate it when LO vomits. he is now 7 months old and touch wood, the vomitting is less now.

no worries about comments on "routine". i know it is not for everybody. my boys both thrive on it. LO is now 7 months old and the routine is now well and truly in place. when they were newborns, they both responded well to the routine. having said that, there were feeds where they would not take their feed. so it would be frustrating. so i would leave it for 10 mins and try again!

LO now shares a room with DS1. DS1 wanted LO to share his room! it was so sweet. the thing is LO woke himself up at around 1.30am and was talking chatting to himself. and then he had difficulty settling and got him arm stuck in his cot. so he was screeching. i thought for sure DS1 would be woken up ! but he did not! it was so amazing! this morning when DS1 woke, DH asked him whether he heard LO crying at night. he said no!

we were both so relieved.

it is a nice day here today. going to gp to get more AD. and then off to drop off DS1 at gymnastics.
