This is my hospital! Derby City General - where I've had my babies and will be having another in November!

Remember to watch tonight if you missed it BBC3.

mears · 23/06/2005 23:03

Well done Nish

I enjoyed the programme this week. My only question would be 'why are the cords clamped and cut straight away?'

Babies continue to get oxygen through the cord after delivery. I was surprised in the homebirth that the baby was not left attached for a physiological third stage - unless mum had pain relief which wasn't mentioned.

The baby needing resuscitation could have been left attached a bit longer. Not a fan of feet slapping!!

Despite my pickiness, very good this week

Nish · 23/06/2005 23:13

Thank u Mears........ I felt for the couple whose baby had breathing problems, I would have been a right state if that was me... Can't answer why they cut the cord straight away, suppose its cause as soon as they are born they breath our air (if that makes sense)

Looking forward to watching next weeks as my midwife I had through my pregnancy is on that one..

mears · 24/06/2005 12:06

Anyone else see Nish last night?

mandyc66 · 24/06/2005 17:03

rodeo1 · 24/06/2005 17:22

I did watch and loved it this week, although I missed the first 5 mins, which I presume you were in Nish! That's just typical of me, was reading the babies r us catalogue on the loo!

I missed the first birth too, drat! Is there another chance to see this episode?

the home birth was lovely, thought it was so sweet when the mum was sobbing 'i love you!' to the MW afterwards

was a bit scary when the previous baby stopped breathing though - would leaving the cord attached avoid that problem? I mean, would the baby always start breathing by itself (assuming no obstructions in its airway)?

mandyc66 · 24/06/2005 17:54

Unless there was a problem..I assume a baby would start to breathe

Nish · 24/06/2005 18:04

I was the first birth of the programme and last night was the last chance to see that one....... I enjoyed watching the home birth, definately considering a home birth next time (assuming I don't have to be induced for the third time)...

mandyc66 · 24/06/2005 18:09

sorry missed it.
Was it not intrusive having a tv crew in whilst giving birth?

Nish · 24/06/2005 18:17

To be honest no, after a while you forget they are there and then by the time you get to the pushing stage you don't care whose there you just want the baby out.....
Although I wish I hadn't given birth on all fours it was too uncomfortable but my daughter did not give me chance to get back on my back

mandyc66 · 24/06/2005 18:20

my dd was born with me on my side as I couldnt get back onto my back!!!!
I think you are very brave letting everyone see you give birth. I wouldnt be able to!!! Some people have their mums there...no way!!!!1

Nish · 24/06/2005 18:55

I had my mum and hubby there for my 1st but this time I wanted just my hubby, didn't plan on having a tv crew there, it wasn't until the day I went in to be induced that I knew anything about it and after a long discussion with my husband that I said oh go on then.. I don't think it is a matter of being brave its just whether it would bother you others seeing your private bits but you don't see an awful lot and in my opinon you loose all dignity when having a baby anyway but that is my opion obviously not every one would feek the same

rodeo1 · 27/06/2005 21:57
