x-post with Tee apparently the stunt was rehearsed. good, i say!

I rather like SBC's low humour, I must confess, and thought what he did with Borat was extremely clever and brave as well as howlingly funny.

Tee2072 · 03/06/2009 19:31

neddie according to all reports he was, especially since he came back and performed after he 'stormed out'. Also, it is apparently nearly impossible to be that exact on a wire landing without some help from the person you are landing on!!

jeanjeannie · 03/06/2009 20:10

LOL@ermintrude scratching DH's face
Good to hear a story where communication has started to happen. Iris can recite all her books verbatum....but communication is an uphill struggle.

tee I had Verity on the Friday and the following Sat I HAD to be at DP's 60th birthday party at the incredibly posh Danesfield HOuse in Marlow. I was so nervous - felt really tired and was dreading getting my norks out in public but i had a ball. Mind you - I certainly wouldn't have left the house a week after having a baby to go back to blardy work!!! Oh no - I only went because the cream teas there are legendary - I can't tell you how divine the cakes were!!

OK - suppose I'd better make the place look respectable if we have visitors tomorrow.

johnworf · 03/06/2009 20:35

Evenin' all.

Haven't seen the SBC jape but saw the headline and couldn't be arsed. I dunno where he's taking all these shock stunts.

We find with DSS that although he can read (and his reading abilities are behind but not by much), his understanding of stories is zero. He has no imagination or can even predict what might happen on the next page. Nothing there. Cannot draw down anything. They are merely words on a page to him. His logic skills are good though and I think this is typical of those on the autistic spectrum. There are 4 others with AS in his class which I find shocking in a mainstream school.

tee your coworker is a complete nutcase. I'd just nod....say lalala to myself in my head...even say of course I'll come and see you and then switch off my phone and not answer her emails. Once she's gone you'll never speak to her again anyway Save the conflict. You need to be calm over the coming week for yourself, nevermind anyone else.

jeanjeannie · 03/06/2009 21:44

Is it possible to OD on blueberries and strawberries? UGH - I feel really sick

jw Blimey 4 in the class is a lot!

tee Have you got all the info/top tips etc you feel you need for your CS (big day) next week? Do shout if you've got any questions. Oh and my money is on it being an 'Adam'

mrsboogie · 03/06/2009 22:01

Nope, a Zoe!

johnworf · 03/06/2009 22:06

JJ yep. In a class of 32 as well Don't like the school myself and K won't be going there.

OD on fruit?? Possibly but blueberries are one of the 'super fruits' so you'll wake up tomorrow able to run at least a marathon.

mrsb where you been all day? I know, work. You know what I mean

Tee2072 · 03/06/2009 22:22

Well, the general consensus (my mom, my MIL, my best friend, my coworker, my SIL, my other SIL's MIL (did you get that?), my aunt) all think its Zoe.

I have thought it was Zoe until recently when I have gotten a strong Adam vibe.

My dad hopes its Adam, due to the fact that he has 3 granddaughters and one grandson and would like it to be move even!

DH has no opinion.

I'll let y'all know in about a week!!

mrsboogie · 03/06/2009 22:30

aye, been working jw 'tis a bore

mrsboogie · 03/06/2009 22:50

wants

johnworf · 04/06/2009 06:33

Super cute those flip flop shoes mrsb Go on...get the little fella a pair.

tee I can guarantee it'll either be a Zoe (btw are you having umlauts?) or an Adam. They only come in 2 flavours.

Nod @ the way DH has no opinion Nuff said.

Well K had a good night despite her jabs but she didn't have any problems with the other ones either so mebbe it follows? No idea. Prolly just luck.

So glad it's grey here today and a bit cooler. I'm not a sun lover at the best of times but it was really awful for the LO's.

We have DSS off school today as they're using his school for polling. Not made my mind up if I'm going to vote or not. Anyway, DS#2 is also coming up for the day so I guess they'll entertain each other.

Did I mention that DS#2 got his grades on Monday (he's done a BTEC as his uni course is computer science but his degree will be BSc)? Well he got A,A,B and he only needed C,C,C. beams

iris66 · 04/06/2009 07:08

morning all

I was waiting forever at the hospital yesterday. What started off as one appointment with the diabetic consultant ended up as two (obstetrician)so was tagged onto the end of the list . Good news though; my next appt is a post natal GTT woohoo!!! I'm so chuffed; even if he did write (in big red letters) "glucose to be monitored in labour - regime if high" all over my notes (twice - just in case anyone missed it I suppose ) I haven't got GD this time!!!! (even though I know it's by the skin of my teeth!)

mrsb - those shoes are very cute.

jj - hope everything goes ok with the paed later - will be thinking of you

jw - glad K had a good night and fab news about DS2 there's nothing like the feeling of pride you get when they do well is there Where's he doing his degree?

duchesse - what a fertile family when does your sister get her amnio results? (hope it all went ok for her)

bonzodoodah - your grandad's prune story mde me priceless!

My mum's arriving later for the weekend and to look after the boys for our little outing on Sat I still haven't decided what to wear with my dress as it's still at the tailors it better be ready today though or I know I'll start getting into a panic.

boys stirring so better go....

johnworf · 04/06/2009 07:24

iris he's going to the same uni as his brother is already at (he's just finishing his second year); Salford. And I am very proud, of all of them.

If it's any consolation, I had insulin drip during my labour and my glucose monitored from the moment I walked through the delivery room doors. It's not so bad and tbh, hardly noticed it during labour. You just have to be careful after LO is born when they have to test he/she to see how their blood sugars are doing as they can be on the low side.

johnworf · 04/06/2009 07:30

Oh, just remembered iris I didn't get a postnatal GTT as the endo doc asked me to randomly check my sugars for a week. I was finding that the fasting morning one was coming up around 7.2. On the back of this I am sent for an annual diabetic check. I've had one already and everything was fine.

Btw, I remember Obs consultant, Endo doc and MW all repeating themselves that I had an increased risk of type 2 diabetes once I had baby due to the GD. I was sick of hearing them tell me. Anyway, my GP now tells me that my weight loss to date means that I've cut that risk by 50% and the more I lose, the less the risk Main reason I'm losing the weight.

So, nothing is set in stone and don't believe the hype!

johnworf · 04/06/2009 07:31

JJ hope you can pop your head round the door this morning so that we can all wish you luck for Iris' appointment today. I'm sure it'll be fine

jeanjeannie · 04/06/2009 07:34

Morning all.

Great news iris so it was all worth the wait eh! Your dress is still at the tailors...eeek. May I recommend natty shoes and a clutch to go with the dress!

jw you must be so proud Cor he must be chuffed to bits. He's clearly been putting in the work. Yeah, where's he off to again - I think you did say but my brain left about 8mths ago.

mrsB shoes are lovely, but I can I add a big 'but'? Just that having had Iris with her strange feet I've met lots of podiatrists and feet consultants. They all without exception have said that little kids feet have got so much worse through fashion shoes and that anything with a toe-post is going to cause problems as the toes grip the moment they feel something between them and this quickly throws out the proportion of soft bones. Just thought I'd pass on what was said to me. They all also mentioned the trend for boots in toddlers, saying that even wellies should be worn in moderation.

Right - I'm already feeling nervous. It's blinkin hot here again...thought it was meant to be getting cooler?

jeanjeannie · 04/06/2009 07:36

X-posts - thanks jw And Salford eh? Not so far that you can't give 'em a Sunday roast every now and then

iris66 · 04/06/2009 07:48

jj - deep breaths (got any rescue remedy?(smile)

jw - thanks for the words of comfort re monitoring - I managed to get away with hourly testing with DD2 (was on a tiny amount of insulin during last 6 weeks of pg) and he was fine after so I'm hoping to avoid any drips this time too (I am puzzled though - and chuffed that, that having had GD twice, I've not got it this time)
My dad was insulin dependant and mum is on metformin so the chances of me going down that route are already high. Trouble is I struggle to keep weight on when pg (have put on 0.1kg in the past 5wks ) and lose loads b/f too so think our problem maybe faulty pancreas rather than a weight issue. Am feeling particularly gaunt at the mo which is not a good look when I want to glow with bloomingness on sat ho hum

johnworf · 04/06/2009 07:50

JJ nah, it's only 30 minutes in the car from me. I'll never get rid of 'em!

Don't feel nervous. She'll be fine (not sure about mum though!)

As for baby shoes, 'fraid I'm tres old fashioned and still follow advice I was given at the clinic before my first child was born; no shoes on baby feet, no socks if possible. Only wear Clarks and have feet measured each time for them. I've done that on all my older ones and will do on K. My children have odd feet anyway...DD#1 is size 6, DS#1 size 12 and DS#2 is size 10. All that fresh air must have made them grow. A lot!

iris66 · 04/06/2009 07:51

pmsl - DS2 is sat muching his cornflakes and gave me a look that was the spit of gollum

johnworf · 04/06/2009 07:52

iris are your parents type 1 or type 2? I think it's the type 2 that's hereditary. Type 1 as I understand is the one you get as a child and is due to faulty production of insulin rather than lifestyle.

iris66 · 04/06/2009 07:56

type 2 aunts and uncles are too, with glaucoma, cancer, crohns, heart disease, high BP/cholesterol all prevalent too (I'm an insurers dream £££££££££££££££££££££) my brother and I seem the only ones in our family anywhere near normal health! which is disturbingly guilt-inducing !

Tee2072 · 04/06/2009 08:12

Morning all!

mrsb cute shoes! I, personally, wouldn't wear them, as I hate things between my toes, but cute for kids!

JW I am thinking no umlauts. Keep things simple is my motto! And yes, I know its one or the other! And congratulations to your DS2! How fab of him.

iris excellent news on the diabetes front. Its good that you can have the kind of delivery you want. Like JW I will have an insulin drip and close glucose monitoring all through my delivery. But I have been told that I can stop taking insulin the second the baby is out. I will have to do my usual Blood Sugar checks (7 times a day!) but my levels should go back down to pre-pregnancy immediately.

JJ good luck with the appointment. And thanks for the information about the shoes. So to the podiatrists recommend a return to the 'hard' shoes we all (at least in the States) wore as kids?

Neddie · 04/06/2009 08:17

iris that's unbelievable. My family have all been v. healthy except my mum who has just been given the all clear from bowel cancer. Glad you have bucked the trend so to speak and are healthy.

They are working on genetic testing for the predisposition to certain illnesses which will be a marvelous development. At least then we can have an idea of what's in store for us all.
I have really bad arrythmia so I think my fate lies in a heart attack- who knows?

I am trying to cover a mare this afternoon so maybe I won't make it till tomorrow...hope stallion behaves.

jeanjeannie · 04/06/2009 08:24

neddie you win the prize for the most unusual afternoon persuit!

jw yep - no shoes then Clarks or Start-rite (good for wide fit too) The NHS only recommend those two and when they LOs come out of special shoes for foot problems the podiatrists recommend a selection suitable for that particular condition by using the Clarks catalogue!! I've got some friends - one in particular who always buys fashion shoes for her LO and she's the same age as Iris, and her little ankles are on the floor!

Is type 2 heriditary I thought that was the one bought on by being overweight/food etc. Blimey - not good for DP as his dad has it really badly - doesn't look after himself at all. FIL is only 60 - going on 75 - he's like a weeble but if he wobbles he would fall down

Cheers all for your thoughts - I'll let you know how we get on.
