Ermintrude- you can get them OTC in any pharmacy in France- stock up next time you go, or get someone to bring some back for you.

well the little instruments came and are lovely- Mr D loves them - especially the tambourine although the cardboard box they came in probably got the most attention.
don't get me started on books - this house is full of 'em!

duchesse I most certainly shall get some next time I'm in France - we might camp there next year, so hopefully the b/feeding will hold off menstruation for most of that time.

I will also be sure to check out exactly what they're called - don't fancy doing that mime

Tis true about popping suppositories up the bum in Europe but not here. Seems wrong to be putting anything up your backside in this country. I've heard that they put them up babies bums and they work like a treat. Much better than trying to work out how much Calpol K has just spat back out and then trying to put a bit more in, then worrying she's had too much/not enough.

Yeah books are brilliant. Our library also has a toy library and they have some lovely things.

talking of b/f holding off periods.... I've always got mine back within a month of the main post birth bleed is anyone else as unlucky?

According to the brochure they gave me about pain killer and CS, they might do an epidural along with the spinal, or they might do suppositories. I guess I'll find out on Thursday!!

Hope everyone is Ok, I'm exhausted so off yo bed. i have high hopes today the blackout blind is up and so maybe we won't get woken at 5:30. night night

I'm really confused now. Why would they do both an epidural and a spinal? They both have the same effect don't they?

JW they don't actually put in the epidural pain killer, they set up the line, so if you need pain killer, they can inject it without having to set up the line, if that makes sense? When they do an epidural, they put a line in first and then the actual pain killer goes through that line. But they can set up the line and not put the pain killer into it.

A spinal is a needle that goes straight into your spine, no line first.

Clear as mud?

A spinal is done in one hit one - straight in and bish-bash-bosh (technical medical jargon dontchya know ) but an epidural has a small canula in all the time...so it can be topped up. I know that my blood pressure was so low that an epidural wouldn't have been given so maybe it lowers the BP more than a spinal. Not sure why they'd give both...would that mean double jelly legs? Personally I never felt the needle either time...maybe I'm odd. Just all of a sudden I though - Ooo er I can't feel m'legs!! You do get a sudden headache and then they give you something and like magic it disappears.

hedgepig yeah, fingers crossed for tonight. I fear I shan't be so lucky as to have two nights sleep on the trot and 5.30am is our normal waking hour

Oh - sorry I may have got that wrong - I thought an epidural went into your back too. Heck - no wonder I never got into med school Ah but yes, I forgot, they do give you a line with a canula in the back of your hand so they can put lots of lovely drugs in there for after!! It's sort of flexible and wobbly - doesn't hurt and kind of bends with your hand.

JJ the epidural does go into your spine - into the dural space. I was given it first time around as I had pre-eclampsia which is why I was induced and my b/p was through the roof. It does bring b/p down and it can also give you a headache. Like you say, the spinal is an injection without top ups. As I recall, a spinal is better for a C/S (so I'm told) as the block is more effective where it should be whereas the epidural is really a pain relief method.

Well, it's a lovely day here again with a stiff wind behind it.

Saw pics of Jools Oliver and she seems to have lost her baby weight already after just 2 months. God only knows how these people do it.

Morning and yes, another night of sleep It won't last!

jw I'd like to know how Jools Oliver does it - especially with all that luscious food around Mind you - she was pretty pert before the baby bump.

Raining here and cool. Now this doesn't bode well for camping this weekend. Oh yes, did I say, we're heading off to Swanage in Dorset on Friday afternoon for a family camping jolly jaunt. Thing is - we've got the Vango 600 in the living room - all packed up - unopened since its arrival and not even watched the DVD yet. So it really could be a shouty errection in a high wind MIL will be going and she's lovely but hard-core Eastern European, where anything other than a necessity is frivolous - this includes anything pretty, cute or girlie - so I'm thinking of taking rugs, throw pillows a a row of Cath Kidston buntings to confuse the life out of her

Off to Jo Jingles...this time with the nice lady doing it. I'll let you know if we get asked ot leave again .....!

JJ I urge you and OH to put the tent up before you leave for camping!!! It takes us over an hour and we're well versed and operate as a 'team' as we've done it so many times but if you're not sure what you're doing and the weather is pants OOOH it doesn't bear thinking about!

Didn't know you were off to the great outdoors. You'll have a lovely time I'm sure. Don't forget to pack your washing up bowl/fairy liquid so that you can go a queue up at the sinks! Actually I liked doing it as you always get into a convo with someone in the line.

Have fun with the scary clown lady.

JJ enjoy camping and good luck with scary clown lady!

JW again, according to the brochure I have on CS, that's exactly what the epidural is for, to top up pain meds if needed. Personally, I'd rather not have one, as I'd like to be up and moving as soon as possible after CS, so I am going to be arguing for just the spinal and then morphine or other drip admined meds after baby is here!

Well, today is my last complete day home on my own. DH is off work tomorrow so we can do some last minute things around the flat before we head over to hospital tomorrow afternoon. DH hates Facebook and so you'll probably only get an update on Thursday saying 'yup, baby's here!!' I'll encourage him to leave details!!

jj - I love Dorset and lived in Weymouth from 14-22. There's tons of places to go if the weather's awful (which it wnt be) too. lol at your MIL

jw - Jools has pinged back after each one hasn't she so I'd say the post baby weight loss is genetic. I'm the same (sorry guys )

Anyway - supposed to be a very brief post as I need to shower/dress and make a shepherd's pie before DH gets back with the boys (he's taken them to music - bless, what a star)

I'm sure you'll be fine tomorrow although I never slept a wink the night before my inductions; combination of nerves and excitement.

Enjoy your last day at home as just one person Soon it'll be lots more but when they've all left, it'll be you and baby and never just you again

Re the CS (amazed they do brochures on them!) I'm guessing but don't know for sure, that epidural and spinals are given differently and therefore you'd have to have 2 seperate sites for them in your back. Now that I would not fancy. As for getting up and about, no idea if they can give you something to reverse the spinal but I know the epidural has to wear off and it takes hours. That's why I'm confused I think as I know they want you up on your feet and moving around after a CS to reduce the risk of thrombosis. Anywyay, I'm not going to question the powers that be.

the sleeping through didn't last -we had 12.30 and 4am.

tee brochures eh? all sounds a bit fancy. I have had an epidural and a spinal. That's it - no more to add! You have to give birth the least your DH can do is get on FB and make an annoument!!

jj enjoy the camping - rather you than me especially with two little 'uns!

The reason Jools O has pinged back into shape is because she never put on any actual weight - once the baby is out and all goes back to normal you can be as thin as you were before so long as you don't eat very much while pg. I know this a I did it with DS! - although not through choice.

Sorry to hear you've got the lurgy iris. And that you didn't get one of my main advantages of b/feeding ie. holding off menstruation. My periods came back after 10 months with DD and 8 with DS, though I fed them both for a lot longer. Since I won't be going out to work with this one I'm hoping to break through a year. Bliss!

No idea about epidurals, spinals etc. I try not to think about it. I do have a friend who was v impressed with her epidural she had as a painkiller which left her able to draw up her knees and push baby out - must have been a v mild dose of the drug just to take the edge off the pain. I'm sure they'll make sure you're out cold from the waist down Tee

Well done JJ and Hedge for getting some sleep. My bladder doesn't allow much of that at the moment. Would second JW on the absolute necessity of putting tent up somewhere, somehow, before you camp. Not doing so could very easily lead to divorce . Dorset is fab, we had a great week on on organic campsite where they only had latrines. Funnily enough, there were no stag parties.. Weymouth is 'proper' english seaside.

Off for blood pressure and wee check with MW now.
