JJ didn't make it to the shops. The battery in the car is dead (RIP) so DH has gone off to buy another with much huffing and puffing. I plan to go this afternoon weather permitting. I phoned the AA for assistance but they said as we only had Roadside that it'd be another £88 to upgrade to get a nice man to come out to us to tell us our battery was dead I politely declined.

I think I could cope with lying on a chaise longue all day, fanning myself. A bit of cross stitch and praps some tiny cucumber sandwiches in the afternoon on the lawn. No such luck...I've just had my hands in the nappy bucket looking for a lost sock...

mrsb fab! D will be a one man band DSS has some marraccas (sp?) and a tambourine upstairs from when he was little so I think they'll be getting recycled. I've been having a look at the crate of toys K has and thinking of having a cull. Far too many and the ones at the bottom don't even get a look at. She'd much rather have her wooden spoon to bang on the dining table I would like to get her a dolly but think she might be a bit young (according to the ones I've looked at, she is). I was thinking one with a material body but plastic head and limbs.

Also been using my time wisely looking at re-usable sanitary towels. Thought I may as well go with the flow (arf). I'm looking at the weemoon and Imse Vimse. Anyone used these and has thoughts/recommendations? I don't do tampons so the mooncup is no good to me.

johnworf · 08/06/2009 13:33

duchesse you deserve a halo for telling your DH to stay and have a rest. What with you stuck there with all the kids and up the duff too. I know what I'd have told him to do......................................

duchesse · 08/06/2009 13:36

jw- nah, he deserves it. He is so so good all the time and has been a little run down for a while (waking up at 5am every morning) and possibly a little depressed.

jeanjeannie · 08/06/2009 13:48

duchesse you are a fine woman! Mind you I can see what you mean, if he's going all that way for work it'll be nice to wind down afterwards rather than storming straight back. I'd LOVE to go to Vancouver - that's our fantasy emigration destination!

jw I got a doll for the girls from Costco - it's great. It's a sort of cloth thing with velco dress, bows for hair etc....Verity loves it. She plays with its thick wool hair and velcros stuff all it the wrong place. It's a creepy looking thing though...kind of a nightmare doll. You wouldn't leave it on a chair in your bedroom, go to bed and shut the door...cos it's probably evil

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 13:57

lol @ evil dolly JJ, my sister had one like that, I used to think it was voodoo or something.

duchesse my DH would look blankly at the notion of holidaying alone for a week, unless he was somewhere where he knew people. He'd explore the culture and get out and about but wouldn't enjoy being on his ownsome for that long. Or am I fooling myself about that? . OR have you decided that it's best to separate grumpy DC in the midst of exams from DH?

JW aargh to the car and the AA! How rubbish is that. Can you not take to the chaise since you're stuck without a car??

mrsb those toys look lovely. We've got so much stuff from DC and nieces that I don't need to buy a thing and will supplement those with loo-rolls and old keys.

johnworf · 08/06/2009 14:02

OOOh good ol' Costco again. Although not sure that I'm really up for getting her first doll as Bride of Chuckie

My DH would go anywhere for a week on his own. Or his dream, I go somewhere for a week on my own and leave him to peace and quiet at home!

Yes the perfect toys for any child; loo rolls, keys, mobile phones, remote controls, purses, real money, make-up, talc...........

Tabitha8 · 08/06/2009 15:55

Well, the cup feeding is going ok, if a little messy. I'm pumping and feeding Benjamin myself as well as much as possible, so I think we'll get there. It's a permanent feeding frenzy in this house. Am drinking lots and lots.
Tee good luck for Thursday. Make the most of the epidural - they only give the one shot and it's a lovely, warm feeling. Very relaxing prior to meeting baby.
MrsB You are still buying some lovely toys. Proper toys, I call them.

mrsboogie · 08/06/2009 16:20

I think I enjoy buying the toys because when I had DS1 I was a poor single mum on benefits struggling through uni. I suspect these are as much for my benefit as D's as he is is more than happy to play with a mobile or one of daddy's games joypads although his faves are a nice rattley packet of bottom wipes or, at nursery, a tea strainer...

tabitha well done for hanging in there - sounds like you will both be full steam ahead in a day or two. oh and ahem pics please? pretty please?

Stormfly · 08/06/2009 17:47

Tabitha - that's impressive! Glad it is going so well. Good for you, girl!

MrsB - you can have too many toys but you can't have too many books or musical instruments and those are lovely. We have that solid drum too - lots of toys have been given away but the instruments are such good value we still have them as they played with them for years.

jeanjeannie · 08/06/2009 18:08

Wow tabitha that's good going! That's the thing about newborns - doesn't matter how you feed them...the first few months are all about food and cuddles Oh and as you're still keeping up the BF and pumping - don't forget to eat plenty of CAKE! It's medicinal and the calories will be falling off you anyway!!! Well done you old bean....oh yes...pics please x

mrsB Verity's new fave toy are the wipes! Especially when she bum-shuffles over to mummy's bag to get them. A hard-won toy is always best!

tee I agree with Tabitha - the wonderful epidural...ahhhhh. Ooo, and I don't know if they have them in every hospital but instead of the stocking on the legs I had these wonderful blow-up and down legging things. They sort of blew up and then down so your legs were constantly being massage.....Oh they were lovely I tell you - a pair of those on when you're knackered....bliss.

Iris ate all her fish pie....and a whole mango (that'll be messy tomorrow) and I said in passing "I wonder where Daddy is?" And she looked at me and said "I don't know where Daddy is" I seriously almost fell over

Tee2072 · 08/06/2009 18:19

JJ OMG! Go Iris!!

mrsb I love all those toys. Very pretty and look like fun.

tab I'm impressed! And, yes, I am looking forward to my epidural...except for the part where the put the line in. shudder

johnworf · 08/06/2009 18:39

Lordy, I hated the one epidural I had on my first LO. Had a bad back for months afterwards and headaches

Don't they give you a spinal for a CS?

JJ well done to Iris on eating up and the speech is really coming along as well.

Tee2072 · 08/06/2009 18:59

JW they will do a spinal for the procedure, they may but a epidural shunt in for pain relief afterwards. And I hate having my back messed with!!!

johnworf · 08/06/2009 19:18

Yeah tee and your bladder

For all you ladies waiting to pop, here's a nice story of a quick labour

duchesse · 08/06/2009 19:22

Hehe, here's hoping...

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 20:08

Was she not wearing any knickers JW? A woman on the June thread had a lovely 2-hour home birth recently (her second DC) and on reflection I think I'd rather go for that - at least I'd have a bit of time to actually take off my clothes.

Tee are you getting excited? .

Someone actually came up to me in the playground and said - Ooh, I can't resist saying this, HAVE YOU STILL NOT HAD THAT BABY? ha frickin ha, i thought. .

johnworf · 08/06/2009 20:15

ermintrude you should have said to them 'yes, I've had the baby but I've put this cushion up here as I like having a huge bump that makes it hard for me to walk'.

Not sure if she had knickers on....would have helped though wouldn't they?

Tee2072 · 08/06/2009 20:16

ermintrude not really excited. Too tired and swollen and achy. But I bet I won't sleep a wink in the hospital on Wednesday.

mrsboogie · 08/06/2009 20:19

I don't think I was excited either at the stage you're at tee the excitement came after!

jeanjeannie · 08/06/2009 20:24

Good job she wasn't wearing a skirt jw poor little thing would've plopped to the ground!

tee I think it's very unusual to give an epidural after a CS done via a spinal. I asked about that and they said they wouldn't do that at our hospital. What they gave me both times was a suppository pain killer (not the most elegant of administrations!!) and morphine. I didn't get full feeling back for almost 8 hours by which time the medication was well under way and then I only needed paracetemol...which surprised me as I don't have the worlds biggest pain threshold. Oh It's so exciting!! And ermintrude too..

I'm starting on the Oreos....BAD JJ...BAD

jeanjeannie · 08/06/2009 20:25

Oh OK - I'll just be excited for everyone else

Neddie · 08/06/2009 20:33

The fast ones are nice but you do go into shock, especially when they say too late for anything but gas and air. I am such a wimp!
JJ the leg things sound like fun- I could do with them now.
Tee I wish I was popping these on Thursday!
I just keep thinking I can't get any bigger nooooo 12 more weeks.
Well done tabitha glad you are persevering and getting there.
JW I like the idea of being with my child for 2 years and not gong to work.....meanwhile back in the real world of bills to pay and stimulating conversation......

johnworf · 08/06/2009 20:39

Yeah I thought it was weird giving both a spinal and an epidural. That would be very odd. I had problems with my bladder once they took the catheter out. Felt like the outward facing bit had been turned inside out

The woman who gave birth should have had a pair of those MC Hammer pants on that seem 'on trend' and popular with the fools of planet celeb.

DD#1 sent me a text today to say that y'days lunch was superb. I was very flattered but doesn't take much does it?

iris66 · 08/06/2009 20:44

ermintrude - on your behalf at stupid playgrund woman. My mum has already made it clear that she expects this one to come exactly on time and not a minute later than due date I keep getting.."ooh only XX days to go!" if I go over I will start getting v with her since I know she'll keep asking about twinges and baby movements (aaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhh)

jw - OMG what a story! - good job she wasn't in skinny jeans eh! lol

jj - clearly Iris is a bit of a player - worrying you and getting the consultant out when all the time she know exactly what to say!! what a fab development!

mrsb - I agree with stormfly(don't think we've met before..I'm iris66 pleased to meet you ) in that books and instruments should be bought in abundance. Those are great and I love the wooden drum! Not a website I've seen before either - nice

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 20:46

Now I know this sounds odd JJ, but I LOVE suppository painkillers. Only had one once, before a diagnostic laparoscopy for my endometriosis. I was on my period, which was, as usual, excruciatingly painful, and couldn't believe how fast the thing worked compared to the usual overdoses of neurofen and paracetamol I used to take, and which used to give me stomach ache. When I came round from the anasthetic and saw DH the first thing I said to him was 'They put a panikiller up my bum and it was like a lovely creamy torpedo'. . He thought I'd lost my mind.

I asked my GP for them next appt and he looked at me like I was a perv who wanted them for kicks, and said they only had them in hospitals. If I was in France they'd be wapping any drug up where the sun don't shine but I suppose Brits are known for our anal retention
