I'm still here - and still due at Christmas and still hoping for a January baby. I had a scan a few weeks ago, seems to be a girl, but will find out for sure later this week from amnio. I have nothing interesting to say - just relieved that I'm not nauseous any more.

misspastry · 04/08/2003 22:34

ive found ways to complety forget that i'm, pg firstly start looking for a new car then go look at house that come on the market in an area we really want to live in, then at bed time see myslef naked and remenber i'm pregnant and think oops I realy should be paying this more attention,as i already have a 12mth ds who takes up all my other time as well!

all my work collegues know is anyone still keeping their bump hidden form others

marsup · 07/08/2003 12:51

I felt a distinct kick for the first time last night! I've been trying to concentrate and feel what's going on for a while now, but everything I've felt up to now was probably just digestion. I'm 18+4 now. Has anyone else had any movements yet?

misspastry I had the same problem with finding this thread but now I just click on 'talk' and 'topics', then 'pregnancy' and move on down the list in alphabetical order. It is easy to get distracted though.

Hayls · 08/08/2003 16:56

I'm really struggling with this heat! I don't want to cook or eat and can't sleep so am having lots of cold showers-mmm. How is everybody else? Marsup, according to my dates I'm 16+2 and even though this is my first I was fairly sure that I felt baby moving last night, as it felt completely different to anything else. I know it's probably too early, but my gp suggested last week that I was quite big for my dates and could I be further on so I don't really know- I was fairly certain about them. Will need to wait till 20 weeks for the scan. So it could well just be indigestion after all!

Misspastry- I have told my workmates, they've known since I found out at 7 weeks. This was only because I work with young people who can kick off quite easily so it was important that I could be 'rescued' if need be! Difficult for me, as I normally get in the thick of things. I didn't tell the young people until 12 weeks and even then it was only because it was starting to become quite noticeable.
Hope everybody has a nice weekend.

Hello all, me again. Juat to add on to my complaints about the weather, i had a really horrible experience yesterday. I was shopping in debenhams with dh when all of a sudden I started feeling dizzy and my vision went funny. I remember my legs buckling and dh catching me and then coming round a few minutes later on a chair with an ambulance on the way. I was really confused (ashamed to admit I was saying 'I want my mum'- I'm 24 and she lives 350 miles away). The ambulance arrived and said that my blood pressure was a bit low- mw also said this on Wed but nothing more was said- and my pulse a bit fast so he gave me some oxygen and took me to A&E. Whilst there they tested my blood sugar, which was a bit low as was my blood pressure so they gave me some sugary drinks and a sandwich and I just lay on a trolley for a while. My blood pressure had gone up to 108/68 when I left a few hours later but not sure what this means! It was the first time I've ever fainted and I'm now worried that I'll do it again.
I was petrified of going into town again after that so forced myself to go back in today with dh for a while (only managed 2 shops but 1 was Debenhams) before I started feeling like I was getting a bit panicky and wanted to go home. I thought it would make me feel better if I managed to go in and not have a negative experience and I think it did help a bit.
This might sound a bit silly but I'm REALLY worried about this and scared to go out on my own.
I kept asking about the baby and they would only say that it was unlikey to have been affected because I hadn't had any pains and didn't hit the ground. This reassured me at the time but I'm now worried about it. Deep down I know that the faint was probably a combination of blood pressure/ sugar and the horrible heat but as it's never happened before it has frightened me.
DH is working away for a week and I'm a bit worried about being on my own and not sure whether I should go to work tomorrow.
Would it be worthwhile going to see my mw or gp tomorrow for some reassurance and advice? If i was reassured about the baby I might feel a bit better.
I'm really sorry for going on about this, hope I'm not making anybody feel depressed.

lucy123 · 10/08/2003 15:09

Oh Hayls, you poor thing.

I'm afraid I'm not an expert, but from my last pregnancy I know that 108/68 is a normal blood pressure so yes - you just needed a lie down and some food.

I've just looked it up and low blood pressure can be caused by dehydration (and in the hot weather I would imagine that was the cause). So just drinking regularly (small amounts often is better I find). I also find having something sweet handy at all times helps (usually dried apricots or something).

But yes, I'd call your midwife or NHS direct just to put your mind at rest. Like I say, I'm a bit blase with it all this time, but I remember getting horribly anxious over everything last time and I never fainted!

lucy123 · 10/08/2003 15:11

PS whenever you find yourself worrying over whether this or that has affected the baby, remember that babies are parasites. You were probably dehydrated because little sir/madam has been pinching all of your moisture for the amniotic fluid. Or something. The point is that nature is very good at protecting the baby against all sorts of nasties. Usually the one to suffer is you!

Em78 · 11/08/2003 15:43

Hayls, I'm around 10 weeks and for the last 2/3 weeks have been suffering with a combination of low blood pressure & the heat. I went to see the midwife & doctor last week and they both assured me that it was nothing to worry about.

I've found that when I faint/come over dizzy it always seems to happen in the same places (debenhams or in the train station), so maybe it's worth trying to avoid Debenhams for a bit.

If you're worried it's probably worth giving your midwife a call to put your mind at ease.

marsup · 13/08/2003 17:06

What is it about Debenhams that provokes fainting fits????

Hayls, when I nearly passed out some time back I was also worried about going around on my own. But I have worked out (I think) that there is always some warning if you are going to feel faint, and you just have to take action once you feel it. The main thing is to get your head lower than your body, if you can. Simplest is to sit down and drop your head down between your knees - I've felt fine within minutes each time. Of course lying down is better but this might raise eyebrows in Debenhams.

misspastry · 14/08/2003 20:44

your all getting me worried now, as in my local town the infomous town planners have decided that we are to get Debenham's!!!!! we'll i'm not going in until well after baby born just in case!... serously though maybe i'm just much more relaxed as this is my 2'nd pregnancy, try not to worry too much we have extreme heat conditions in the last week that were just not used to, all i've had are a couple of nasty headaches.

ooh hayls, just trust your instincts, you now more about your boidy and how it feels than any GP!

Hayls · 16/08/2003 15:56

Hi all. Just to say that I have seen my mw and baby's heart is still beating away furiously so I've calmed down a bit, just trying to make sure I don't overdo things and don't get hungry or thirsty. Thanks for all the advice and hope everybody is doing OK

Hayls · 27/08/2003 15:32

Hi again. HOw is everybody? This is a quiet thread! I've just had my 1st scan and found out that I'm now due on 28th Jan so I might have a February baby! Fortunately everything looks fine and we were told that it appears to be a girl, which is strange because for some reason we were convinced it was a boy. I feel really weird now as I was so sure it was a boy, although I don't actually mind as long as it's healthy! JUst out of interest, has anybody else found out the sex? And how accurate is it anyway?

Hayls · 27/08/2003 15:33

P.S Still no Debenhams!

LucieB · 27/08/2003 15:38

Hayls
I am due 17 Feb but that thread is really quiet so keep dipping into January and March! I found out the sex when I was pg with ds. This time I will too, as dh is a radiologist and as he wants to come to the scans, its inevitable (or more than likely) he will know what we are having. And if he knows, I will want to know too!! Actually I would probably want to find out anyway - because I am impatient!!! Its not 100% accurate and its easier to say with certainty that its a boy than a girl, apparently. I know someone who was carrying twins and she was told she was having two girls at her 20 week scan and they popped out as two boys so you never know! Much depends on the skill and experience of the sonographer/radiographer!

marsup · 29/08/2003 17:24

Sorry it's been so quiet, Hayls - I do check from time to time but things have been pretty hectic at work. Pregnancy is much more fun. My bump is pretty big now and I've bought my first maternity tights (M+S). They're very comfy and look like they'll stretch as I grow. I've also had to buy some new bras (a bit of a shock as I'm usually flat chested) and my breasts have been really pink and irritated - has anyone else had that? Now I have a plain white cotton bra it is a bit better.

Presto · 29/08/2003 18:36

Hello
I am due in January and have just had my 20 week scan. It's a girl (99% sure said the top chap here), we are delighted as we already have two lovely boys. We had a repeat scan with the consultant as the first scan revealed a bright spot on the heart. The consultant has reassured us that there is nothing to be concerned about and that everything else looks fine and has advised against an amnio. Has anyone else experienced a bright/white spot which has shown up in the heart?

Hayls · 31/08/2003 19:18

Hi Presto, welcome to this thread! Can't help you much re the scan but at least it seems that everything is OK. Hi again as well, Marsup- I'm well into maternity clothes now as well so you're not alone! As for bra sizes, the less said the better. DH had bets on what stage my bump would be bigger than the size of my chest- bump has only just taken over! I also found that plain cotton bras from M& S were the most comfortable. Hope everybody is doing OK- isn't it much better now that the weather has cooled down a bit (never thought I'd say that but there you go)

marsup · 04/09/2003 15:24

Hello Presto and others -

It sounds pretty scary to have seen anything odd about the heart, but if the consultant doesn't recomment an amnio I'd go with what he says. I'm not even sure an amnio can pick up on all problems - it mainly look sfor Downs, doesn't it?

Presto · 05/09/2003 15:22

The actual condition is called Intracardic Echogenic Focus - has anyone else heard anything about it?

Hayls · 17/09/2003 18:25

Presto, I haven't heard of this, I'm afraid. But then being a 1st timer I don't know much about anything! I had a look on Google but couldn't find any information (you've probably already tried that anyway). Hope you're feeling a bit happier now- like MArsup said, I'm sure the best advice would be to go with the consultant.
How is everybody else? I thought I was getting quite big until somebody said to me today that I looked more like 3 months than 5! Don't know whether I was happy or not about this comment- was it a compliment or what? I was quite small before becoming pg so I suppose it's just the way I am. Although even now if I stand up straight I can't see my feet and am not very coonfident about regaining a flattish stomach (wasn't perfect before!) after having the baby. I did worry about it for a while (is baby too small, am I not eating enough etc) but have decided that I'm an individual and you can't really compare people too much.
Hope everybody is feeling Ok and morning sickness and tiredness is improving for all those suffering from it.

lucy123 · 21/09/2003 20:00

Hi everyone.

Just wondering what everyone else is up to. Plus I need a moan: I still haven't had my 20 week scan (despite being 24 weeks I think) and very fed up with not drinking/being able to bend over thing. Plus I chucked a strop in the supermarket yesterday.

But anyway - feeling fine apart from that.

Hayls - you can regain a flat tum. Well I did last time anyway but you have to be patient, and do all the weird gentle exercises they give you. No situps for at least 2 months (shame! )

Hayls · 22/09/2003 13:38

Lucy- hopefully I can get my tum back as well! Had a few more 'aren't you small' comments since my last post but now ignore them. Might practice my 'aren't you rude' replies. I can't believe they haven't offered you your 20 week scan yet, that's terrible. Did you have one at 12 weeks? Have they given you any reason for the delay? My advice would be to nag, nag then nag some more- might work! Maybe it's just me, but I thinkthat's really unfair to keep you waiting that long! But then I am really impatient...

lucy123 · 22/09/2003 14:15

I have an appt on Wednesday now!

The trick is not to be pregnant or in any way in need of medical attention in August in Spain. The world and her sister buggers off for hols and the country goes to pot. My late appt was because of the useless locum.

Hey ho!

Plus, would you be less upset to be told how big you are all the time? That's what I get, but I think it's due to the copious quantities of cake I've been eating rather than the baby size.

marsup · 24/09/2003 21:46

Hi ladies - no one is telling me how big I am at the moment, I think they're all too amazed to say anything. I had hardly put on any weight/tummy, until about a month ago (I'm now in 25th week), but now I have an ENORMOUS tummy. I'm not much fatter elsewhere; am I going to give birth to an elephant? a small one, I hope.

Apart from the baby elephant thing I feel great, in fact better than ever. Also the NHS system has finally kicked in and I am actually having some check-ups now, which is reassuring (though they're probably right, I didn't need more checks before as all is well). Hope you are all fine.

PS it's ok really, I like elephants.

Hayls · 05/10/2003 13:14

Hi everybody, how are you all? I'm almost 24 weeks now and feeling really exhausted a lot of the time. HAd 12 hours sleep last night and am now wondering if it's too early to have an afternoon nap! Bump is getting bigger and bigger but like you Marsup I haven't got bigger anywhere else- keep being told I'm quite 'petite' (which I'm not- I wish). Dh thinks it's really funny to get me to stand in front of him then turn sideways on- really makes him laugh for some reason!
Lucy, how did the scan go?
Take care
