I was very confused there for a min MrsB you are in soap land aren't you?

mrsboogie · 08/05/2009 20:06

yeah, sorry

Triggles · 08/05/2009 20:09

LOL - coronation street

hedgepig · 08/05/2009 20:23

Iris thanks for the nappy lady link. There is loads of good information on there, I'm using the washables I had for DS1 but I never really got the hang of them with him so I'm muddling through a bit. I have a much clearer idea what I am doing now,

johnworf · 08/05/2009 21:26

Evening all.

Got back from JL and bought the dress that I think most liked. This one. Size 14 fitted lovely but don't think it'll last long (I'm already thinking it's so lovely, I'd have it altered to fit).

As for washable nappies what would you like to know? I've tried most of them. I prefer and use on a daily basis the Motherease birth to potty (popper fasteners - different colours - see Little Green Earthlets website). I've got the snap in boosters for these but I've bought extra boosters (bamboo, microfibre, fleece) which came in very handy when she was tiny. I've had the Totsbots and they're ok and work fine when they're in the first size but never bought anymore when she grew out of these. I bought 2 of the first size Fluffles and didn't like them at all. Dry quick but not that absorbent imho. so along with the Motherease I use the Imse Vimse organic terry BTP. Also good and very absorbent.

I use fleece liners most of the time with a one way disposable liner. If her bum is sore (and that is hardly ever), then I use a silk bourrette. I bought 1/2 metre of fleece off the market and cut it up. Miles cheaper.

I've also go some all in ones (Bum Genius) which are great and just like disposables. Really easy to use and you stuff with them however many boosters you want.

For wraps I think I've pretty much tried them all apart from the wool ones which are a faff. I'm currently using and have stuck with the Motherease Airflow (popper) wraps. I've had the Rikki which are ok but no good for K's shape....very slim fitting. I also use the Imse Vimse soft organic wrap and the bumpy wrap. Both brilliant and no leaks.

I dry pail my nappies in a net. Couple drops of tea tree oil in the bottom on a muslin with an old bib on top of the pile with lavender oil on it. I have two buckets; one with nappies, one with all the other things in it (fleece, wraps, boosters). Easier to sort for washing. I blast the nappies on 90 degrees once a month.

Bury council encourages the use of cotton nappies but doesn't give you anything for doing so

That's all I can think of right now on nappies but if you can think of anything else.....

Hope Jj is having a great night out. Lucky devil. Although I think you're rotten telling me about the lovely lunch you've eaten today

JW Pretty dress.

I am using disposables. And that's all I'm adding to this conversation.

mrsboogie · 08/05/2009 22:06

lovely jw

with tee on the nappies. On grounds of cost, lack of garden, tumble drier or drying weather and simplicity. I'm sure I could think of a million ways in which I offset it environment wise.

I bet jj is downing Bellinis like there's tomorrow

mrsboogie · 08/05/2009 22:15

like there's no tomorrow

hedgepig · 08/05/2009 22:22

I usually a pint of beer kinda girl MrsB so I had to look up Bellinis, they sound yummy

johnworf · 08/05/2009 22:57

I think JJ said she was driving so I guess she's on the diet coke with an umbrella and a monkey on a swizzle stick

Not having a go at anyone on the great nappy debate ...just giving a bit of advice on what has worked for me while I've been using them.

Thanks all on dress. I'll be posting pics with me wearing it afterwards. Having hair done on Wednesday so that the colour can settle. Is it me or do you ladies that dye yours have to wait a couple of washes until it's at the colour that you wanted? Thinking about booking a mani/pedi for myself as a treat. Nails look as though my real job is a navvy Very embarrassing.

Morning everyone xx

Triggles and johnworf

I am soo looking forward to "starting again" and as you say I'm sure it will all come flooding back as soon as ickle squiggle ( oh thats our name for bump at the mo) is in our arms, It will be like being a first timer again as we have nothing but luckily my SIL still has everything and I mean everything from her DD, she is now 2, so secretly we are hoping for a girl coz of all the hand me downs
well if its a boy it will just have to get used to frilly dresses for a while!!! lmao

Think the only reason we are anxious is my DP has his own family business which really isn't doing well and looks like it will fold in the next week or so, at the moment I'm off work due to the pains etc I'm suffering so its quite stressful at the moment and the not knowing what's going to happen is the worst, but I have got through worse b4 so I'm sure we will cope...somehow lol
Not the ideal time to be PG but I always think things happen for a reason.... just wish they wouldn't keep happening to me constantly!! lol

At least I have my grown up kids around me and they are already being fantastic support and I have great family and friends, thats the most important thing.

hope you all are good today, have a great weekend everyone

xxXxx

Wonderwitch · 09/05/2009 05:45

Thought just let you know I have put on my profile the 7 week scan pic for you to see .. hope its big enough for you to see

Tee2072 · 09/05/2009 07:33

Morning all!

Awww, wonderwitch look at the wittle bean!

Actually slept fairly well. I just wish every bone in my body didn't ache. From the top of my head to the tip of my toes, I swear, I ache. Except, strangely, my left knee, which usually aches. Oh the joys of arthritis and pregnancy! And, of course, can't take my good meds and paracetamol doesn't touch it. [whinging smiley]

Darn, didn't win the Millions last night. And I was so sure we would.

Neddie · 09/05/2009 08:20

I slept really well last night (first time for ages). I was very decadent last night- I ran a bath and put my laptop on a chair and watched The Duchess whilst having a good soak. She had a lot of babies! It was all romantic; first a big belly, then a bit of fainting and then bingo a baby in a crib. No talk of piles, varicose veins, stretch marks, insomnia or feeling like you have a basket ball pressing on your bladder!

I get my new car on Monday- I haven't seen it yet it's a Mitsubitzi (is that how you spell it)Spacewagon in claret- we discovered that by the time we got everyone in we'd need a 7 seater so my Dad saw this one and got it so I don't have to struggle with the Landrover and 8 months pregnant.

Stormfly · 09/05/2009 08:34

wonderwitch - it is exciting starting again, isn't it? I'm sure a boy will be fine with frilly dresses, just put them over jeans and start a whole new trend in boys' clothing! This is the right time for this little sproglet of yours anyhow and things always work out with the right people around you. Hope the pains sort themselves out soon.

Tee and Neddie - nothing beats a good night's sleep.

Neddie · 09/05/2009 08:59

I have had a look at the Earthlets site and will try some of the one size nappies with the dry bum bit. I don't think I'll do the newborn ones as I think I'll be in a state of shock just having two at once without tackling washable nappies at the same time.

I must admit they don't look that thick- I presume you have to put waterproof knickers over the top. I'm totally clueless.

ermintrude13 · 09/05/2009 09:06

Washables cost considerably less than disposables over time (especially if your council offers cashback), even taking washing into account. But drying must be the big issue. I don't have a tumble dryer but do have an airing cupboard with boiler. Once the rack in their is full they'll be adorning our radiators .

Neddie you buy waterproof 'wraps' to put over them - JW had lots of recommendations earlier in the thread.

Triggles · 09/05/2009 09:39

johnworf thanks for all the nappy info. We used the boots brand previously, so if we go with cloth nappies this time, it's going to be all-in-ones, I think. I hated folding them! We don't have a tumble dryer, but I think we can manage that okay. Luckily, as I said, we have a supply of disposable newborn nappies, so I don't need to start cloth until they are gone. Gives me a little time to decide.

johnworf · 09/05/2009 13:09

ermintrude I very rarely dry any of the nappies et al in the dryer. I line dry on a maiden or on the line outside. Usually put them on in the evening and they're dry by the morning. Wraps take a couple of hours. Anything bamboo takes quite a lot longer.

triggles the motherease literally fold in half. That's it! This is what I have. These will last you the whole of the time that you're using nappies and 'grow' with the child. The all in ones are fab, brilliant and easy to use but downside is, when the LO grows, you'll have to change the sizes unless you go for something like the Bum Genius 3.

Just got back from K's first swimming experience. She loved it! Had to check with SCBU first as remembered about her eczema and wasn't sure how the chlorine would be with it. They said it was ok unless the skin was actually broken - which it isn't. She didn't want to come out of the water but her hands were turning blue Wasn't the warmest water I must admit. She's in her cot now sleeping it off Great for wearing babies out

The patio man came yesterday so we're waiting on his verdict on the cost. Spent the rest of the evening poring over stone catalogues (how exciting I hear you mutter). Think we're going with granite with some solar lights sunken into it. Looks very nice in the pics. Better get one of my kidneys on Ebay to pay for it

Done a late weigh in today. 9lbs to my goal weight

JJ have you got a hangover from all the diet cokes you had last night? Where are you old girl? Was it a good night? Or did you dump the car and have a few snakebites?

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 09/05/2009 14:29

sounds lovely jw as does the final approach to goal weight! I only have four stone to go

Glad K enjoyed her trip to the pool do her no end of good I'm sure. D's eczema is totally gone since we started using the Aveeno.

jj you'd better sign in or we'll be thinking you had too good a time last night!

johnworf · 09/05/2009 15:46

mrsb what's aveeno? Not heard of that one before. We've just got the Oilatum and Epaderm cream to put on her skin.

I wouldn't look at your weight as a whole. I couldn't do that....made it seem like too big a task to take on and instead, may as well head to the fridge and bury my face in a gateau. I do it 1/2 stone goal at a time. I think it's a tip I learnt from WW years ago. Anyway, you've done fab so far!

Yes, where is m'lady today?

OP posts:
Neddie · 09/05/2009 15:47

jw I am sold on those bum genius 3 ones they look easy- will give them a go if all is well with twins.

mrsboogie · 09/05/2009 16:29

Aveeno is an oatmeal based moisturising range for sensitive/dry skin- available in Boots around the £5 - £8 mark. I got it after reading about it on here as being great for eczema. Has totally got rid of D's like I say.

heron22 · 09/05/2009 16:37

hi all, just got home! DS1 birthday party was today and it was manic kids everywhere! loud music. LO did not sleep well in his buggy and was rather cross ! the party was at a bowling alley and all the kids had fun. us parents were worn out! phew! another year another party done and dusted! so have not had time to check all the latest posts!

jeanjeannie · 09/05/2009 16:43

Oh God - where am I? Am I still awake?

NO, no drink, I'm sorry to say A glass of champers in the limo as we hurtled into Windsor and that was it. I did indeed take the car to my friend's house where we picked up the limo and I drove back. I'm just SO tired. Got in at 1am - Verity screamed until 2 then woke again at 4.15am until 6 - I then slept till 8, got up and we all walked a 5 mile round trip to get shoes for Iris. I'm broken !!!!!

And to top it all - Verity has got really severe conjunctivitis and I feel so guilty because I debated wether to take her to the Drs this week and though it was just sleepy eyes.

I do reusable nappies. I do exactly the same as jw word-for-word identical! Motherease - a brill 'workhorse' nappy. Bumgenius superb - no complaints - best-all-in-one nappy in my opinion and fast drying too. Also the Bumgenius are good for Iris as they're a nice slim fit for her. As for fleece liners....make your own....IKEA thin fleece throws are perfect for cutting up!!!

Well done on the new car neddie It'll be a proper expedition if the whole family decide to go out!

Our tent arrived today (won on ebay!) It's a Vango 600 (kidlington) OMG - it's SO huge we haven't enough lawn to do a practise run...hahahah so it's the park for us!

Right another cuppa for me....Oh and Ken showed Dierdre the note? He SHOWED her???? Oh, I MUST know what the upshot of that was.....do tell, do tell
