Ermintrude You have the 2 hour labour and I'll have the 40 mins. It's so good to work it all out in advance, isn't it, so that we know where we are meant to be. That lady who popped in the Post Office should've planned properly.

jeanjeannie · 18/05/2009 11:41

Oh hedgepig that decor is really 'special' I think Kirsty Allsop will be begging for a similar look for her 'make do and mend' house she keeps banging on about! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the maxi dress though.....you look great

Heron I never had the breast rejection with Verity - just bottle rejection. I think it may happen if you breast and bottle feed. What often happens (happened with DD1) is that the milk is easier to extract from a bottle than it is from the breast so babies often become lazy and want the easier option.

iris great to hear your DH is on his way back into your loving (Waynetta!) arms!

jw yes, yes, I find certain colours don't suit me now..I sort of look sallow and washed out. Main culprits are black and white I'm liking chocolate brown, navy, pale blue and yes...green! They all seem much kinder on the skin tone and drying hair!

Good news about Mat pay ermintrude - spend it wisely - on fruit shoots and big macs!

Off to clean the loo....it's almost a health hazard...

johnworf · 18/05/2009 12:09

Just checking in....to the cacophony of the circular saw just outside patio windows Good thing I've only just put K in bed isn't it? Strangely enough she's not gone to sleep yet though. Mustn't grumble though as it means work in progress.

Seem to have the kettle boiling for most of the morning tho'......

Good to see you lot are sorting out the important stuff i.e. money!

Never heard the one about skin pH mrsb. I'm using the Clinique Super Balance foundation and it's fabulous for combination skin. I shovel it on with a trowel I know it's good cos the woman in J Lewis who sold it to me almost looked like a doctor

Talking of which, I have GP appointment tomorrow for my monthly weigh in. I've really plateaued of late and although I haven't put anything on, I've lost only 1lb in almost 3 weeks. I knew it was coming though and I'm ok about it.

Did I mention we got the 12 months jabs appointment through for K? It's the day before her b'day.....what a lovely prezzie

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 18/05/2009 12:35

Oh, jw the sound of a circular saw is the sound of progress The weather is turning nice as from Weds (apparently) so that'll be just in time for you to have cocktails on the patio!

Not had my 12 mnths jab letter yet - although I remember Iris's was on her birthday too!

Off to collect my little daemon

heron22 · 18/05/2009 14:40

ermin i love your labour plan

jj i think ur right he has worked out it is easier to get milk out of bottle.
another thing tho, he has started putting his finger into the back of his gums and chewing madly. i did put my finger in and he was biting down quite hard. does that mean he is teething? heavens no! he will be 18 weeks tomorrow!

heron22 · 18/05/2009 15:01

jw whats the 12 month jab? is that the one after the 4 month one? LO is due for his 4month one tomorrow. breaks my heart whenever he has a jab. that chubby thigh and that huge neddle and those big tears and sobs!

heron22 · 18/05/2009 15:06

watching the movie called Bride Wars - looks good

mrsboogie · 18/05/2009 15:23

it is horrible heron but I always think its a lot better than the alternative, sounds like your LO is starting the teething business. D did all manner of teething type things, including copious dribbling, for ages before any teeth appeared.

Have just realised D should be having his 8 month check round about now - anyone care to tell me what this consists of?

jeanjeannie · 18/05/2009 15:58

heron awww, I know, it's horrid isn't it And yep - that sounds like teething - mind you it can go on for months...almost a year in Verity's case!

mrsb I think the 8mth check differs in many places depending on the HV and the health authority. Mine was stupid (as usual) and they said Verity was 'failing to thrive' height-wise Yep, used those fecking charts for formula babies. They weigh and measure them, see if they can roll (nope - that caused alarm too!) then make them do little tasks. The HV hid stuff and Verity had to find it, make sure they can transfer things from one hand to the other etc. Oh, and then I had to fill out a form stating I didn't have PND and that my partner wasn't beating me It was really patronising I have to say. I mean, like the scum-baggers are going to attend anyway!

Verity is in a fowl mood and Iris is knackered from nursery - me thinks it's an early dinner for this malcontent pair! Oh and DP isn't back till late as he's pricing up another job...pah...why can't we just win the blinkin lottery

johnworf · 18/05/2009 16:08

mrsb I thought that the 8 month check was pretty much what JJ just said. I know K will 'have cause for concern' as she's still not sitting unaided. She is rolling over though and getting herself up on hands (like press ups). At this rate she'll be crawling but not able to sit

Anyway, I've not seen my HV in months. She threatened promised to come and see me at the end of Feb and that's the last I've heard from her.

The 12 month jab, according to my letter, is for Hib/Men C Booster.

I've already had to fill in a questionnaire to say I don't have PND and sign it I think I passed it.....didn't hear anything other.

K is still dribbling and she's got her bottom teeth!

Blimey, the rain has been relentless here today. Felt sorry for the men in the garden while it was peeing down. DH got excited though when the Travis Perkins man came with the lorry (and the grabber on the back).

Tabitha8 · 18/05/2009 16:20

Does anyone know if we have to meet with social workers? Sorry, I meant to say HVs? Some of their questions seem more appropriate for adoption panels. Do our DHs have to sign to say we are not beating them up?

johnworf · 18/05/2009 16:59

Yes tabitha. In blood.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 18/05/2009 17:08

But they already asked me that question when I went in for my booking in! 'are you or your baby in danger from your husband?' 'no. Can he come in the room now?'

Like someone would say yes.

I want a medal. I just shaved my legs. I just couldn't stand them any more. What a contortionists act that was!

heron22 · 18/05/2009 17:27

mrsb my DS1 just turned 5 and i have forgotten all these checks they are supposed to have!

johnworf · 18/05/2009 17:32

I've never been asked anything regarding my husband and my safety. Ever. Perhaps it's in certain areas of the country?

Well done tee. When you cross over to the other side you'll be lucky if you get time to run a brush through your hair. I sometimes realise around 11am that I've not yet cleaned my teeth Slightly worrying but K takes up all my time and when she's asleep, I'm on catch up with the rest of the stuff in this pig stye!

OP posts:
johnworf · 18/05/2009 17:33

heron how do you think I go on with my 17 year age gap?

OP posts:
Jeannie5194 · 18/05/2009 19:47

Is it too late for me to join you all here to chat? Or am on the wrong thread altogether?!

I'm unexpectantly expecting at 42 (almost 9 weeks). I already have a 10 year old and my partner has 2 children aged 11 and 12 so this was all a bit of a shock at the outset; now we're unbelievably excited.

We haven't told anyone yet, oh other than my dentist who wanted to do routine X rays at a check up a few weeks ago.

Is there anyone else here due around Christmas or with a substantial gap between this pregnancy and their last? I'm certain I already look pregnant - my colleagues are already glancing at my tummy but perhaps I'm just being paranoid!

J x

hedgepig · 18/05/2009 19:59

Jeannie you are indeed in the right place, congratulations & big waves.
You will definitely find others with bigger age gaps than yours and others such as my self who were late starters. Als, we are a mix of expecting mummies and those who have popped who are too comfy here to start a new thread.

Tee big congratulations on the legs you deserve a huge piece of cake for that.

Tab you don't have to have anything to do with the HV if you don't want to but mine have always been pretty level headed and useful, but one does read some amazing stories on other threads.

heron22 · 18/05/2009 20:05

jw cant imagine how you handle the huge age gap!

jeannie welcome to this thread we are very friendly here and this thread moves very fast CONGRATS on your pregnancy

Jeannie5194 · 18/05/2009 20:17

Thank you. It's a relief to be able to tell someone about it. My GP has recommended waiting until after 13 weeks before telling anyone just in case but all being well I'm going to tell my best friend when I next see her.

My 10 year old has just cracked the garage door at full force on my head on our way out to deliver him to Cubs. I was so shocked I had to force down a couple of sickly pink kids lollies when I got back(I was thinking sugar for the shock!). Unfortunately not a bit of cake to be found in the place...

Tee2072 · 18/05/2009 20:18

Welcome jeannie! We have all types here, some with kids, some pregnant, some recently popped. I'm on my first at 40, due end of June.

hedgepig I'm having hot chocolate instead, as there is no cake in the house. Of course, there are mini-Mars Bars...

johnworf · 18/05/2009 20:46

Welcome jeannie. This could prove a little bit confusing with the two jeans (is that a pair of jeans then? ) Ouch with the garage door. We've got a clumsy 9 year old here too. He barges into everyone and everything too

heron the 17 year old is was my youngest. The oldest one is 23 with one in the middle aged 20. K will be one in 2 weeks.

I phoned up the priest who is doing K's NC this sunday just to check a tiny detail and........he hadn't put us in the diary so if I hadn't rung him, then we'd be stood there like lemons in our Sunday best without any NC this coming Sunday Very near miss. I congratulated myself when I came off the phone as for once, my double checking paid off.

DH opened the door to someone just after tea and I heard muffled conversation. The next minute he's ushered her into the front room and she was getting out RSPCA forms when I went in......... I ended up turfing her out as it was all a ploy (that I'd already seen and dismissed once before) to get DH to sign up to donate to the RSPCA every month. I told this one the same as the one before that if I wish to give to charity, then I will send my monies to the charities of my choice. She was no better than begging. I believe these people don't give a hoot about the cause as they're all on commission for everyone who they get to sign up.

Corrie and Eastenders have made me feel very depressed tonight, especially the former. Just waiting for the old man to snuff it.

ermintrude13 · 18/05/2009 20:49

Hello jeannie, you're definitely in the right place here! I'm 42 and expecting my 3rd a couple of weeks before Tee's first is due. I have a DD 11 and a DS 6 but there are some much bigger gaps on this thread. I found it especially nice to be able to talk about the pregnancy before telling anyone else - we wanted DC to know first so waited until the scan at 12 wks so mumsnet was a great outlet for me .
Hope your DS's head benefited from your eating those lollies

JW I've always thought that getting us to sign the forms saying we're fine and dandy is a bit odd. Is it to 'cover' them so that if we're discovered with our heads in the oven they say - look, she said she was fine, it's all written down here! .

heron both of mine had teeth at 4 months. Made breastfeeding great fun for a while, not. But as mrsb says, they can take an age to actually come through. I have no experience of LOs refusing the breast though, but the mixed feed explanation does make sense.

Tee right, you've guilt-tripped me into taking out the Epilady . This should be interesting...

marymungoandmidge · 18/05/2009 21:10

Hello - I shall be 40 (way-hey-hey!!!) when my DC3 makes an entrance in September!!! So I shall spend my 40th birthday either BF a newborn cos they are early (yeah right!!!!!), or living it up in a chic boutique hotel ooh about half an hour away from the maternity ward-just in case!!!Either way I sobbed to my husband that a want a bloody decent present!!!!
JW - we have the other extreme - the teeniest barest of gaps (12.5 months between DS and DD)- aged almost 3 and almost2. Still keeps you young ....

FloriaTosca · 18/05/2009 21:13
