morning all

Ta for the reassurances re D and the part time parenting arrangement (what it feels like [hmm. I know he is doing fine out of it and I don't know what I expected it would be like (actually I didn't think ahead at all - or else I never would have done it)
I know I wll be gutted again when we turn up at nursery or grandma's and someone says "oh he's been crawling/walking/talking today" This morning he rolled across the floor in a very practiced fashion - we knew he coud roll over but hadn't seen him do it as a means of transprting himself across the room.

Anyway enough of MrsBoogie's working angst!

tee last day ! I remember it well. I sneaked off home without a word and wouldn't have any goodbye type speeches. Hope its a nice one. Bet you end up all emotinal from a lovely send off

jw hope te cold is better and the grumps wear off...

Oh I find Dave C strangely cute as well - and the thought of him screaming for his mummy doesn't even turn me off

Tabitha8 · 14/05/2009 11:04

Enjoy your last day Tee. I'm sure they'll give you a good send-off. It would be too shameful of them not to.

iris66 · 14/05/2009 11:11

morning all

heron another vote here for the ikea high chair (I think it's only about £17)easy to clean and transport if visiting. We got rid of our Chicco Polly in favour of it!

iris66 · 14/05/2009 11:22

Tee - I hope your last day turns out to be a lot better than your recent ones Enjoy walking out that door!

Tee2072 · 14/05/2009 11:44

I don't want a send off.

And my husbands job is still fucking him around.

And I'm having a total crap day!!

How's everyone else?

johnworf · 14/05/2009 11:49

tee not many hours to go now and then you'll be home

Didn't know that your DH's job was still up in the air as not heard anything more about it so thought it might have just been a scare tactic at work. Sorry to hear that it's still a possibility

Pretend to go to the loo..........and then don't go back.

OP posts:
BonzoDoodah · 14/05/2009 12:22

awww Tee crap day ... hold on not long to go. And look smugly at all those other gits and think that tomorrow when they're sitting at their desks you'll be in bed!!

ermintrude13 · 14/05/2009 12:37

JJ sad thing is, it's the same vampire. Google Robert Pattinson and I think you'll find he's looking good, and is 24, so exactly the same digits as me and therefore perfect . I am so with you on Alistair Campbell though, what a bad sexy terrible man, hubba hubba. My DD misheard the nursery song and must have heard me musing about dear AC, because she once sang to my mum: 'Alistair Campbell has - 2 humps, Alistair Campbell has - 2 humps. etc' .

Cameron too smooth for me; Portillo too oily (as well as too gay)

Tee have a long lunch

JW I'm not sure about opaque black with that dress - I always look like a (big old) schoolgirl in opaques unless they're with short skirts and boots. Can't beat a classic natural tan, needn't be too sheer, for a neutral look with lovely dress and posh pointy shoes. IMHO.

BonzoDoodah · 14/05/2009 13:04

Highchairs - the Ikea one is super. Very easy to clean and light and easy to take apart and put in the car to take places. There's a booster_cushion you can buy too - although we had a padded booster from another chair that we used while M was small. You can use it with or without the tray - depending on your table height. I HAVE bought a second hand trip-trap though for when M gets a bit bigger.

Pointy shoes - mum wore pointy shoes to my wedding - someone commented they were so pointy she could only walk north!

Spotty Mini - really gutted to see it go - and LOVE the idea of it being a play house in the garden - but realistically some enthusiast will buy it and give us a few hundred quid (up to £600 some of the websites say) ... and we can't sniff at that with Maternity Leave looming and a replacement car to buy. Am going to take a stack of photos of us in it and on it so Matilda can show what a cool first car she had.

MrsB - the nursery thing does get easier - honest. Can't they do anything to help your boy get to sleep? Would be so nice if he was awake in the evenings. We are glad M goes to bed at 8 so we have at least 2 hours with her at night.

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2009 13:26

Back from Playgroup - where Iris was a star - she sang the Grand Old Duke of York and marched too!! [proud mummy emoticon]

Good to see I'm not alone in my strange male desires! Oh and ermintrude I googled the said young man - OK, point taken - he may be only 24...but PHWOORRR!!

JW Hugh Jackman - definately wouldn't say no - good lord, chance would be a fine thing that I even got an opportunity to turn him down

tee Just a few hours....don't let the buggers grind you down. Stand firm, remember they will be history is a mere few hours. Hum to yourself...."I'm having a baby, I'm having a baby"...cos that's far more exciting than they'll ever be. Sorry that your DH's job are being twits too

bonzo I love the name Matilda...love it.

Still laughing at the thought of Dave C screaming for his mummy - and yes, my gaydar starts to go off when I see Michael Portillo But what we have learned today is that pointy LK Bennett shoes are good

johnworf · 14/05/2009 14:15

bonzo the shoes I've got sound like your mums!

Know what you mean about opaques and the schoogirl thingy. Never done 'natural' colour before so this'll be a whole new experience.

I saw an interview with the Robert Pattinson person on GMTV when the film first came out....he's alright I guess. Not my type at all....cannot possibly fancy him when my children are round about the same age Seems wrong, wrong, wrong.

Well done Iris on the singing. Actions and all. You'll have to get her doing agadoo.

Just been to do a reccie on garden furniture. Found what I like but think my life is very mundane when my only trip out this week is to B&Q. Sorry, my mistake, I'm going to Costco tomorrow morning

Did anyone read about M&S selling stuff for 1p next Wednesday? Only certain items and you'll only be allowed 5 of them (not sure how they'll check this). Not sure if I'll go and have a look. Methinks there'll be queues of Daily Mail readers. Blue rinses and all!

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 14/05/2009 14:24

jw that's an exciting weekend for me....a trip to Costco Yet again, my weekend will be just me and the girls while DP does the garden. Been the same since mid Feb! Worry not about getting excited over furniture....I was thrilled by playbark this morning...

1p....next wednesday Cor....wonder if it'll be stuff worth having?

Forgot to say, I met a 16yr old girl today - due to have her baby in a month's time. She was asking me about breastfeeding as she wants to do it because her mum thinks .."it's GROSS" so she wants to do it to annoy her... Laugh? Cry? take yer pick!

OOoo, is it White stuff sale day today?

Tee2072 · 14/05/2009 17:40

Annnnnd...I'm done.

No party. No card. Not even a cake. Typical.

And one of the worst days for ages.

But, its over. And I may never go back...

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2009 17:51

WOAH! tee well, good for you for surviving it....and a BIG/HUGE/MASSIVE A*se to that nasty lot of miserable COWorkers
Here....have a BIG card from all here at JJtowers ...OOooo AND a BIG bunch of flowers too

Gosh - what has been up with MN today? Just can't couldn't get on it at all and it's almost grinding to a halt it's so slow. They need to get the IT fairies out.

Iris ate sweetcorn....add that to the firsts too. Not many, but they went in her mouth and she didn't spit it out

johnworf · 14/05/2009 18:32

Ah the joys of sweetcorn JJ And if you're really lucky, you can see them all again tomorrow when they come out of 'the dark side'.

tee I must say your office co-workers sound like a right miserable bunch. I've always had at least a card with vouchers inside it when I've gone off on maternity leave (all two times). Well, tomorrow is another day...and you'll be spending it in bed/on the sofa/eating chocolates

Playbark you say? How cosmopolitan are you?! I am genuinely getting exciting thinking about how the garden will look and being able to sit out on nice (?) days. As a consequence of patio though I'll be losing my two washing lines. The actual post is something pre-war. Instead I'm going for a rotary line. Must easier to fold up when not in use.

I can see the headlines in the DM now "16 year old breast feeds out of spite. Mother says I'll have no part of this" Like you say, not sure whether to be happy or sad about that one. One of the most original reasons I've heard to date on why you'd BF.

It is White Stuff 20% off day today. But ONLY today. It's a one dayer.

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 14/05/2009 18:36

Tee I can't believe that in a whole office-full of folk there wouldn't be one person with some sensitivity and thoughtfulness to give you a nice little send-off. What arses. How good that you'll be able to forget all about them and focus on you and your soon-to-be-expanded family. Have a piece of this choc fudge cake we got in special, like

JJ I think he may only be 23 . And in real life he's just another posh public-school actor, but in my dreams he's my very own vampire boyfriend . Nearly finished the 4th book and they've finally Done It, both with her in human and in vampire form. Finally, I can relax.

Well done Iris on the playgroup performance. My DD (another Matilda) used to love doing all the songs and actions, whereas DS liked to run away with the other naughty boys and throw the seat c cushions on the floor.

What to say about the 16 yr old mum-to-be? Hope that she's just pretending the reason she's planning on b/f is to gross out her mum? Best I can come up with; it does sound a bit grim, hope she and baby are ok...

JW just make sure the tights aren't too pale. They'll look lovely.

Will check out the M&S thing, but are you sure it's not some sick fantasy?

iris66 · 14/05/2009 19:05

Bonzodoodah - about your mini. Can you use your mini to get £2000 off a new car? (not sure if they have to have an MOT or not)
Matilda's a gorgeous name BTW. I really want it for DD2 but DH, like the man from delmonte, he say no.

also, I failed to answer your question of a few days ago (sorry) ... yes, I probably should be on the due July thread but I'm pants at keeping up. I very nearly joined it early on, but since I sort of fell off the post natal thread for DS2 after a very short time (and felt really guilty for not posting ) I decided not to bother this time around

jj - one thing I love about sweetcorn - you get to see it go in....and you get to see it come out (why does it never seem to get digested?)

I can't believe what a fantastic reason that is for a teenager to BF - could be a good campaign idea to promote BF in youngsters generally - "society doesn't want young mothers to bf, you'll give it a bad name" they'd be queueing for nursing bras before you could say Kamillosan

I took delighted delivery of a gorgeous maternity/breastfeeding dress today here - I love their kids stuff as it lasts forever (sadly, though, it's not that common to see on E-bay). My maternity allowance has kicked in so I thought I'd treat myself (it was 15% off) - I'm very tempted to get the black one too but I think I may be pushing it - do you think I need two?

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2009 19:09

So much poo - so little time. Stinks in here - had to open a window!

Ah yes, jw - so cosmopolitan with the playbark! We were going to go for shards of glass but thought that was a little too hardcore

ermintrude I thought your Vampire boyfriend had a fat-lipped, posh boy look about him!

Tights....Oooo, yes, buy a few shades to ensure the right colours...and then take a spare pair in case they snag!

I need to buy a dress for this wedding next weekend...I'm toying with a maxi-length... Is that too young? too hippy? too 70s? Just wrong? I dunno....[fashion angst emoticon]

Must dash, Iris is attempting to change her Tombiloo's nappy...and she has a tub of water and cotton wool...it's going to be messy!

iris66 · 14/05/2009 19:11

sorry, forgot to add ...

Tee - your workmates are utter shits .Bo$$ocks to 'em! I got you a big card and a box of chocolates to add to your virtual haul. You put your feet up and enjoy your maternity leave

duchesse · 14/05/2009 19:28

jw Portillo is definitely gay. It's one of the openest secrets in Westminster! He has a marriage of convenience though.

duchesse · 14/05/2009 19:29

And tee frankly a) you're well shot of them, and b) with morale like that, I'd be surprised if the company outlasted your maternity leave anyway... Any chance of redundancy?

Tee2072 · 14/05/2009 19:49

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I am actually very hurt that I didn't even get a card. But since I am the one who usually does cards? I'm not surprised. One of my bosses didn't even say good bye or good luck. Just dashed off to a meeting.

duchesse no chance of them going out of business. Trust me on this one!

onehitwonder · 14/05/2009 20:31

Hello

Is it too late for a new joiner? I am 42 and due on the 8th of June with my 2nd. I did sign up to the June antenatal thread, but got scared off by the sheer speed of it (although from my lurking you ladies are no slackers in the posting department) .

I have 3 days left at work - so can just imagine your relief at finishing today Tee - and how rude of your colleagues not to get you anything . I have semi-deliberately planned my leaving date to ensure my lot are back from a conference, as if I had left this week, I would have received scant attention and no goodies.

Finally got up the courage and energy to post knowing that my leave starts on Tuesday and I will have more time to spend mumsnetting nesting .

Heres hoping I can keep up!

jeanjeannie · 14/05/2009 20:57

Hello and welcome onehit (look, I'm being familiar already - how rude!) Thrilled you decided to post and due so soon! Am pmsl@your stratagy for leaving work...nice move, maxing your chances of raking in the pressies.

Sorry about the speed of the thread - even I have trouble and I've been here since day dot See, now you can join us during your nesting period - I mean what else are you going to do...watch daytime TV and eat cake? Lovely to have you along. How old is DC1? And do you know if this one is a boy or a girl? Do tell us more x

tee shame they aren't going to go down the pan....it would be fitting for such truely lovely () people...

Tee2072 · 14/05/2009 21:04

welcome onehit (ooh, also being familiar, how cheeky! )

I am due 26th June and am on the June thread. It does move fast!

I know JJ wouldn't that be great?
