early pregnancy symptons that you *don't* read about in books?

I keep seeing references on MN to symptoms of pregnancy that may or not be scientific/imaginery/anecdotal and thought it would be interesting to gather them in one place.

I remember one person who had a theory that her one ankle would swell almost immediately, or something similar.

What little body quirks did you notice shortly after you became pregnant?

Ha these are bringing back memories! I just knew I was pregnant with both mine a few days after conception way before period due!
My wee smelt funny
Strong sense of smell
Nausea from day one!
Purple bits
Metallic weird taste in my mouth
Craving for milk ( which I usually don't like)
HAD to drink ice cold water first thing in the morning. With loads of ice!
Couldn't even look at tea or coffee- normally drink 8 cups a day!!
Glad I'm not the only one who has super early symptoms- people look at me suspiciously when I tell them I knew a few days after conception! Last time I even stopped having sex with husband during fertile time as I knew I was already pregnant!

This is my first pregnancy and not really suffering with much part from a dull ache in my lady bits expesh the first few 2 months of my pregnancy felt like there was some hands in there squeezing and letting go all the time!

And the worst case of dandruff and eczema on my face all down one side by my nose! :(

I seem to have lost my sense of smell not gained any and I seem to love potato in any form and plain crisps

I read through all of these!!

I have had 4 miscarriages so far, no babies yet for us :( But, I did get weird symptoms!!

First, and worst!! is very very bad back pain. OMG, so bad.
With my third one, I was the furthest along, and was absolutely mad about ice cream. Couldnt get enough!! I even borrowed money from my husband's uncle to buy some! (We were in Guatemala at the time). Got extremely sick, nausea and diarreah. But I didnt even know I was preg until I miscarried.

With my last one and the one before it, I can now say that aversion to ppl is definitely a symptom. It stops after i miscarry. And I mean, hate ppl like if they were the plague. Just dont want to b near anyone except DH!! It was pretty bad in Guatemala and pretty obvious this time around too.... Imagine 9 months of this!!

Oooo, and coffee!! I HATE coffee, and with this last one, all I wanted was coffee. That was an obvious sign, took a test and was positive lol

Bum ache here too!!

Also my wee smelt different, everyone tells me it was actually my sense of smell that had changed but I only noticed it with my wee

And I wanted coffee too, normally an avid tea drinker but I couldn't function without a cup if coffee in the morning (decaf)

I also had/have:

Massively heightened sense of smell
Death farts - DH assures me they are horrific and it's not just my super sense of smell making me think they are worse than they actually are
Bloating
Itchy nipples! Mostly the right one (an old workmate said this was a sign of pregnancy years ago and I never believed her)
Constantly needing to go pee, urgently!
And yes - bloody awful lower back pain at night
Horrifically tired and pale looking
Really moody and grumpy

Gosh....I'm few days late hence lurking & I too have itchy nipple (left) both are very dark? Tingly too And seem to keep going erect when there's no need to be! However I feel AF is totally around the next corner as I have cramping & bloating have done on n off for about 5 days. Was due 4 days ago but I know from what I've read on here period type pains can be early pg too. 4th pregnancy but with each one I've had different "early" symptoms. Hmmm may test in a few days.

She's just arrived! Oh well. I'd consumed a fair bit of booze and soft cheeses over Christmas! Itchy erect nips may be a new PMS symptom for me.

First thing I noticed was that it felt like I was wearing jeans with the zip undone, it was like my stomach muscles were literally coming apart like an undone zip down the front. A few days later all the ligaments in my knees went soft and jellylike, really weird and uncomfortable as we were on a walking holiday at the time. These both happened even before I knew I was pg.

I couldn't stand toothpaste either, had to switch to the kiddies strawberry-flavoured one.

The other thing was that my hay fever went away and has never really come back. I'd suffered badly with it for years, so good riddance!

Anyone else spotted on and off for 9 days? I have a metallic taste in mouth, sore nipples not all the time, burping more, really gassy and feel extremely tired plus wierd twinges in lower tummy if it's a period I have to wait till the 22nd of August to see if I get my period but this bleeding has been lighter then my usual periods. Anyone else had this before?

Very detailed dreams, almost like mini movies. That gave it away for me third time around. They've stopped now but we're good fun in the early days!

Also gone off some fizzy juice was drinking the green Coke life and it was disgusting for the first time ever same with normal Coke I'm now drinking water and juice which is strange for me

I feel absolutely terrible 😢 I have a 6 month old baby girl and have found out i'm pregnant again. Nausea and fatigue are constant and awful, I'm moody as well because I feel so ill. I have constant re-occurring thrush and re occurring cold sores. I forgot how bad the 1st trimester was. I havent got energy to talk to anyone and genuinely feel so ill. Has anyone experienced these symptoms before?

Vomiting out of my nose 🤮 and burning my nose and throat the feeling would last for days. This was a regular thing glad I’ve stopped being sick but overdue now and fed up!

Apart from the normal ones like nausea, I always get a stuffy nose, my vision randomly goes blurry sometimes, only for a couple of seconds though, vivid dreams.
