early pregnancy symptons that you *don't* read about in books?

I keep seeing references on MN to symptoms of pregnancy that may or not be scientific/imaginery/anecdotal and thought it would be interesting to gather them in one place.

I remember one person who had a theory that her one ankle would swell almost immediately, or something similar.

What little body quirks did you notice shortly after you became pregnant?

Another one with the killer farts here. Plus constipation. It's not a good combination.

No-one has mentioned this one - random nipple erections completely unrelated to heat/cold/friction . Could be just one or both. Very disconcerting and distracting during conversations!

can i just say the word fart. big long hot farts that smell so bad even my cats leave the room....

Headaches, really tired but cant sleep and a huge dose of the horn, my dh loves it when i am pg.

I had a weird heavy feeling in my bits, like a weight was hanging off them... tmi? Sorry! But i get it sometimes when i have a period and am hormonal, but i knew it too early for that. It lasted a minute or so but was so strong a feeling, and about 3 or four days after sex so possibly around implantation time and i just knew we were in for it (unplanned)! My husband wouldn't believe it till he saw the test later on!

I'd forgotten this, but my v curly hair lost its curl in my first pregnancy. In my 2nd, my curls are back.

Well it's been a few years since I've been in that certain condition but: intermittent abdominal cramps & diarrhoea; agonising and lingering mouth ulcers; crashing headaches (really really hungover feeling); and - TMI - horrible underarm sweating that defeated even repeated applications of industrial-strength deodorant. All in the first trimester btw.

Yup, girls, it truly is a magical time!! Good luck to all of you going through it now. Bizarrely I'm still quite jealous!

I am a cold fish, always have cold hands. Being pg is the only time I have warm hands, and they would flush with warmth too (I used to wonder if I had "healing hands" as apparently people who do find their hands suddenly get hot).

An internet friend who had been TTC for ages said she was suddenly boiling hot and I knew. It was so exciting to be able to say: I think you've done it . . . and be right!!!

My boobs went up 3 cup sizes, pretty much straight away. And I went carbohydrate mad.

Oh, and I get this strange thing where my chest tightens up, my back hurts and I burp loads and loadly. I think it might be indigestion but it happens when I need to eat. Not sure what to do but it is flipping uncomfortable.

I kept on smelling cat food everywhere I went.

everything smells really strongly - body odour, alcohol, food, the bins, the cats, toast (blurgh).

Dry skin. Wrinkly skin on hands

Dandruff (as someone else already mentioned!)

Falling asleep early in the evening. I knew I was pregnant second time round as I kept literally passing out on the living room floor.

Oh, and broccoli tasted of tuna. As did tea.

ok, no-one else seems to get this, - massive saliva over production, linked to feeling sick all the time. It was so gross, I even had to sit holding a pot and spit in to it all evening, and put a towel on my pillow at night. I know it was preg related cos it stopped as soon as I wasn't pregnant. Yuk!!

SpaceTrain - ibuprofen is dangerous at any point in pregnancy. The paramedics were wrong.

Burping, IBS, smell, insomnia, moodiness.

SHooting pains high up inside my (ahem) lady bits and greenish discharge (no infection - got it both pregnancies up to about 16 weeks) that looked like snot on occasions??!

Spacetrain and Titmouse the GP I went to see when first pg with DC1 told me to avoid ibuprofen. She said that it wouldn't cause any problems to unborn baby if I had taken it but that I shouldn't do it if I got more migraines due to links with miscarriage. HTH

I was freezing cold for the first 14 weeks even though I am normally someone who complains about being warm! My hands were blue most of the time and I felt lousy.

Oh and the well documented ABSOLUTE CRUSHING TIREDNESS. That was what tipped me the wink with DC2. Sitting in front of the tv with DS at about 4:30pm and just dropping off to sleep. And then snapping out of it. Weird.

Googgling daily what size your embryo/foetus is and what they are developing

5wks - approx 5mm long
5+1 - still approx 5mm
5+2 - still approx 5mm
....

6wks - 6mm woo hoo it's grown!

Loster- i know exactly what you mean. I get this too.

I had metallic taste (blood taste) in my mouth. Sometimes i taste it now, but have to realise i have a aluminium filling now!

cramps,
bum ache as they call it on here,
sore armpits,
headaches,
dizziness,
hated brushing my teeth like some others,
gagging at the slightest mention of sick (althoug never was sick during PG)
Like a butterfly feeling in my belly. I cant describe it, not anxious, more excited but just plain wierd, also makes me sort of shiver.
Sore nipples,
burst of energy in early morning, really tired in the day.

oh yeh nose bleeds till 13 weeks.
