Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't know MrsB if weaning earlier would have made much difference, B was weaned at 4 months and not really keen on food either. O does seem a bit more interested in finger food but he gums it and drops it but at least he opens his mouth for it! It must be so hard being at work trying to sort out this stuff, you have to just do what you can, he will get there in the end.

We have stopped feeding O in the night now when he wakes we just bring him into bed and he conks out which is progress. and last night he didn't wake at 2 only 5, woppee!

mrsboogie · 30/04/2009 22:22

that's good hedgepig D is awake at 2am and 6am then goes back to sleep til 7.30.

It is hard with working - I feel like other people are raising him and for 5 days out of 7 I only see him for a couple of hours a day. It is worse than I expected.

johnworf · 01/05/2009 08:04

Morning ladies. Grey today with rain on the way. Wonderful. No plans so going to stay in and do exciting things

I wouldn't get yourself in a pickle over the weaning. You can't force the food down them. I'm sure they'll do it when they're good and ready - like everything else they do.

Must be hard mrsb with working full time. But if it's any consolation, I worked full time when my DD#1 was a baby (went back to work at 6 weeks) and she's not held it against me I think LO's love nursery - as long as it's a good one - and come on in leaps and bounds. You'll have to treasure your weekends with him instead

I wish something exciting would happen to me. It feels like Groundhog Dag atm. Not sure what exciting things I'm hoping for but I'm not that fussy.

Told DH I would like an eternity ring for b'day/wedding anniversary this year. Need another ring to keep my wedding/engagement rings on as they're loose. His reply? "So how much we talking here? £40 maybe £50?"

ermintrude13 · 01/05/2009 09:25

Mornin' all!

JW, who said romance was dead? You could get some lovely zirconia from Elizabeth Duke .

Would you like to swap for my 'exciting' weekend? DD's 11th bd party for 8 squealy friends tomorrow followed by family bbq on Sunday? Fortunately baby seems to have dropped slightly and the Ranitidine is a great help with acid so I have more energy than of late, but even so I'm a bit creamcrackered at the prospect. I had to check with parents that it's OK for their DDs to watch 'Twilight' because it's a 12 (they're all 11) and fortunately all said yes. DD originally wanted Moulin Rouge, which we all love including 6yr old DS, and I was a bit to find it's a certificate 15! As DH said, it's only comedy sex and subtle prostitution; goes right over DC's heads and they just enjoy the music and dancing (tho DS thinks there's way too much kissing). We must be very bad parents.

On and off sunny here. Since we're having a bbq Sun you can just about guarantee rain, sorry!

heron22 · 01/05/2009 09:45

morning all! how is everyone? is sunny here. had dreadful night last night. LO woke at 3am and did not settle till 4am
did not pick him up but patted him on chest. the first time i went in, he was wide awake, he grabbed my finger and when i patted him he quitened down. then as i left, he started. when i went in again later, and patted him, he worked out that patting means no pick up, so he just continued crying.
not sure what was wrong with him. not sick or anything touch wood. he did go to bed really early yesterday, like at 5.20pm, so maybe that is why.

also i noticed that lately, he needs to cry before falling asleep. sigh. this morning, after we got back from dropping off DS1 at school, he would normally go for nap quietly. not this morning! i think he is more aware now of his surroundings. and definitely of me! so prob want more cuddles. but i got lots of things to do! tidy up, need to have breakfast. pump milk!

what do you do in this situation??

heron22 · 01/05/2009 09:45

jw i want some excitement as well. but cant see it happening

jeanjeannie · 01/05/2009 10:23

Morning all.

jw I was thinking Diamondique. In fact my dear....look no further...your personal, fairy godmother shopper has found this gorgeous little treasure for you. Yes, it also has the word 'chocolate' in it. I think you'll agree, not only is it Bang on (counil estate) Trend but it's undoubtedly an 'heirloom' piece too

ermintrude I'll have your weekend - that sounds a hoot. Good to see the ranitidine worked. I was so thankful for that stuff - reached the spot Gaviscon just couldn't find.

Heron I found around the 12-16 wk mark that both my girls woke at odd hours and definately needed feeding and a cuddle. I do believe there is a growth spurt around that time. Not easy at all, especially when you're expressing.

sissy I'm a cougar too Hope new GYN wasn't a hottie!!

mrsB Please don't worry, if anything I have the opposite problem, I'd love to send Iris more often but just can't afford it as I'd have to do childcare for two. She has thrived on nursery - really come on. I don't think her vocab or social skills would be anywhere as near as good as they are now. We all lead more isolated lives than we used to - i think nursery is the modern equivalent of playing out in the street Young Master D is surrounded by family and nursery friends....what a FAB start

Gorgeous day today. I too feel like jw can't put my finger on it - but nothing exciting is happening or to look forward to....well, not that sustains my excitement. I'd like to start a business I know, I know....so, ideas on a stamp please....I need something to occupy my brain.

mrsboogie · 01/05/2009 10:50

morning all

just taking a short break from comtemplating the Technical Standards Directive (if its excitement you're wanting...)to pop in and say yay!!! its fridayyy!!

thanks girls for the reassurance re farming D out - it's an odd thnk I am not v maternal and wouldn't have epxected it to bother me but after he has been away from me all day it feels as if the bond is weaker somehow - I dunno how to explain it.

jj you want to start a business? I reckon little boys' clothes - they currently come in 2 colourways - pale blue and sludge and they are manufactured at a rate of about 1/10th the amount that girls' stuff is. And as for accessories? well there aren't any apart form on those Scandinavian websites. And you can have all the guinea pigs you need on here!

jw my sympthaties re your DH and his jewellery failure mine wouldn't even know what an eternity ring was.

Tabitha8 · 01/05/2009 11:01

I saw that Prof Regan programme last night - amazing coincidence that she answered my question as well. Formula milk has more calories. I was very pleased to see that Lego was rated as the best educational toy as I love it. I can't wait to get all mine out of the loft.

mrsboogie · 01/05/2009 12:06

I was shocked ny the v-tec laptop though - the one that taught numbers the wrong way round!

heron22 · 01/05/2009 12:17

jj my LO will be 16 weeks next week. so prob a growth spurt! so will make sure he eats as much as possible between 7am and 11pm! so tired this morning due to broken night's sleep!

ok, off to express now

heron22 · 01/05/2009 12:42

this BBC program with prof Regan, when was it on and what was the name of the program? i would love to watch it. thanks

iris66 · 01/05/2009 13:23

Hi all mum went this morning I rushed off to do some shopping & just got back and got the boys fed. Will get DS2 tucked up for a snooze then (try to) catch up!!

johnworf · 01/05/2009 13:39

Missed the program last night but if you tell me the name, it might be on catch up tv.

I've decided not to buy K anymore toys. She prefers one of my wooden spoons and a bit of cardboard. She's currently trying to bite her dad's nose. All free

Nowt happening here. Waiting in anticipation for precipitation.

JJ those jeans are $$$$$$$$$$$$ Cherching! Lordy, you must be filthy rich

ermintrude send your kids round here and I'll send all of mine to you. I'll swap weekends anytime. Btw, do I get your DH for the weekend too? I insist you have mine anyway even if that's not the deal hehehe.

jeanjeannie · 01/05/2009 14:05

Just a quick pit stop...flying around like bee today. jw well, do you know what...they can bloomin well stuff their jeans....they were awful, cr*p, nasty. By the time I got them over my thighs the waist was enormous! Who the heck is that shape? I could have worn those when i was preggie Tried loads of other 'posh' exepensive jeans on - and all horrid. I shall continue my quest at another date.

However I did try on the LK Bennet tulip skirt i've been eying up.....size 12 fitted like a glove, it was beautiful....*sigh There was also a white high waisted skirt with a bow thing in French Connection and that 12 fitted too....so I may have to compromise. Both were lovely

That Prof Reagan programme (prof reagan's nursery)...different thing each week where she dispells myths about products/medicines etc. She looks for evidence-based research etc rather than spurious claims. Anyway....cardboard boxes, lego and stacking cups were clear winners. I bet ELC is inundated today! So, looks like K will be fine with her spoon!!

Bye bye....Off to the supermarket, if I can extract verity from the crocheted blanket she's bum-shuffled under Oh, she's trying her hand at bum-shuffling....it's hilarious.

duchesse · 01/05/2009 14:34

My name is Duchesse, I'm 24+5 weeks pregnant and I confess that I have been...buying stuff.* For the baby. And looking at nappy paraphernalia online. And babygros in shops.

I'm going to jinx everything, and I'm breaking my resolution to wrap this baby in sacking when it's born rather than tempt fate like this.

*(a changing mat and a big cloth bag for storing stuff in)

johnworf · 01/05/2009 15:12

OMG JJ that ring. What can I say? There's nothing like a gorg ring...and that's nothing like a gorg ring! Think ermintrude is right and I'll end up in Argos

Never tried on expensive jeans so dunno if the fit is better or not. Tesco's own brand are £3 and they do the job i.e. hide my arse and hairy legs. I've got M&S Autograph ones on today but a) they're massive on me now and keep showing off my builders bum and b) they were secondhand from Ebay.

Sounds like you need to get hold of Iris' piggy bank to pay for your finds

ermintrude13 · 01/05/2009 15:21

What jeans has JJ been trying on? I usually have Gap but do have a pair of Boden 'Sassy' low-waisted bootcut ones which are fantastic if one is one's optimum size but unforgiving if not.

I once bought Asda cheapies and the zip kept falling down on its own .

iris66 · 01/05/2009 15:32

jw - lol at the ring - DH lost my eternity ring when I gave it to him to look after when I was in labour with DS1 (fingers swelled badly) it took the arrival of DS2 to prompt him to get me another one (then the old one turned up when the tumble dryer was being mended! )

Isn't there a shop where you can be digitally measured in some booth and have jeans specially made to fit - and at reasonable cost?(or was I just having a happy daydream?)

duchesse - DS2 insists he's having another new brother which is a bit unnerving as I've been buying loads of girly stuff after the sonographer said we were having a pink one My only neutral new buy is a cream padded one of these

BonzoDoodah · 01/05/2009 16:25

Hey Iris - I bought a sling like that at a nearly new sale the other week. I hope it's comfortable!

Tee what a bugger about your DH. My DH was made redundant in the middle of my maternity leave. Was a real downer at first but he did find something. And the 2 months he had at home - he fitted a new kitchen and we had lovely family time together. I hope yours finds something soon.

jj sorry to hear about the referral. But if you've suspected something "wasn't right" then at least it wasn't too much of a shock.
On the BF charts - I had to INSIST they found me a new BF chart to replace the FF chart they were using for M. It took them a couple of weeks to find one! Ridiculous! M is really slight and was going down the lines at an alarming rate. She's still slight now - 21 months and legs look like a 4 year-olds - slender rather than chubby. But she's healthy and VERY active so we stopped worrying (and weighing).

jeanjeannie · 01/05/2009 16:28

I'm back - cor, isn't food shopping £££$$$!

duchesse don't worry dear, you're amongst friends here One way of looking at it is that you're nesting - it's natural - there's nothing you can do about it Anyway - you don't want to be out shopping when your bump is so huge and it's really hot and all you want to do is slump infront of the telly with a fan on!!!

mrsB I tried on 7 For all Mankind / Hudson and DKNY - all dreadful. I'm with jw my Tesco ones were actually a brilliant fit - but recently the cut has changed so aren't doing it for me. I'm going to see what Gap has to offer. I thought (foolishly, obviously)that a bit more of a spend may mean a better cut. I'm fed up of a builders bum crack when i sit down

johnworf · 01/05/2009 17:13

Hands up to having a bum crack I do actually love the autograph (M&S) jeans but these have just got too big through the weight loss. When they're the right size they're fab and I'll be buying more in a smaller size.

bonzo K is FF now all my milk has gone but she's another who's gonna be slight. She just isn't one of those chubby babies and never will be. Not worried about it at all

As for food shopping, you're not kidding it's expensive. Especially when you're shopping for your DD#1 too

Had success today with the training cup. Soft silicone spout as opposed to ones with the hard spout. Nice transition cup and hopefully she'll just be having her milk in the bottle.

I've booked a table at the local pub for Sunday lunch. I'm officially on strike this weekend. No DD#1 (she's out with her dad) but the two boys, K and DSS will be forming a tag team. Actually hard to go out and eat as the menu is really not meant to be low fat....I'm sure I'll wing it though

jeanjeannie · 01/05/2009 17:17

Brill idea jw a pub lunch...good on yer Yeah and with the price of making the meal....well, you'll be quids in!

Fab about the cup - those spouts are good - they're more yeilding.

Having Thai curry tonight....no not a take-away, it's my own fair hand and the help of some paste. Really, really fancy fish and chips though!

Tee2072 · 01/05/2009 17:55

Hi all

Just a quick note to note I am still alive.

My maternity cover started today, so no time for MN! Oh the horror! I have to actually train her!!

Hope everyone is doing well!

iris66 · 01/05/2009 18:00

jj I'll swap you nigella's meatballs (random portion found in the freezer last night...with wilted, just on it's sell by date but still perfectly fine - I've even washed it, salad/ sunblush tomatoes/spring onions/avocado and costco's finest spaghetti (organic,au naturellement!))for your thai curry [hopeful emoticon]

.....my bump aches - think I'm too old for this pregnancy malarkey - this is definately my last one! (though I know this already, as DH had his vasectomy redone in feb, I need to say it! )
