DS1 at pre-school and DS2 neatly tucked up in his cot. Kitchen floor desparately needs a clean but I've been overcome by an anti-nesting feeling (can'tbearseditis) I may just watch last night's recording of Hell's kitchen; to admire, again, the vaguely vulpine and disturbingly hypnotic attraction that is MPW

I'm very of your weather mrsb. After a glorious day yesterday we've wall to wall clouds here today (and me in my flippy skirt and flip flops too (white, goose bumpy legs and blue toes do not a good look make BTW )

It's wonderful when LOs start really chattering isn't it, though one thing has always perplexed me; namely, why is it that "dada" is easier to say but then they always start calling everyone "mama" (DH gets a tad grumpy over this )

jw congratulations on the new tooth. It's a real face changing time isn't it. - love the scarf/wrap you got. Bargain! I've been a sucker for scarves since the children started breaking all my necklaces - they make handy emergency slings too

re: the reflexology - it can take up to 3 sessions for you to see a distinct and consistent improvement (I'm a qualified/registered reflexologist) digestion is always a big thing for me so I tend to really work all the hormone/bowel areas on a client's feet anyway - to good effect, apparently Hope you have a good lunch!

iris66 · 22/04/2009 14:18

oops double post

heron22 · 22/04/2009 14:27

mrsb yes we're both aussies but have british passports as well.

carpets got steam cleaned today so lovely and clean!

about to go out enjoy the sunshine to escape smell of wet carpet! all windows are open right now!

johnworf · 22/04/2009 14:52

Beautiful day here ladies! Thanks for congrats on new toothy peg. Will pass them onto Princess K post-haste.

mrsb yeah, like you have a choice in the matter of another tooth. LOL.

Had lovely lunch with floria, A and K.

Just been and had my smear. Nurse noted that couldn't find my last one on my notes...that'd be because Jesus was a lad when I had one last Anyway, all the barnacles have been scraped off now so I feel like I have a new undercarriage Nurse also explained they've now done away with the metal speculums that I probably had last time I had one. Oh no! I cried. No deep frozen metal inside me. I'm disappointed How times move on.

Missed Hell's Kitchen last night but have it on Virgin + so might catch it after evening meal. Off to get the last of DD#1's things from her old house where the b'stard of an ex lives. Thankfully he's out so a few misplaced pieces of fish under his sofa might be in order (btw, he wouldn't notice as the house is such a pig stye).

Would like to put my washed nappies on the line but everytime I put washing out, the neighbours either side start a f**king bonfire. Y'day all my white sheets were out when the firestarting commenced Not impressed.

iris66 · 22/04/2009 17:24

jw - mmmmmmm smears - love em (must get one sorted once I've finished reproducing!!)

DS2 (18mths, just) did the most adorable thing earlier. I was watching them play through the kitchen window and he was exploring the garden. He crouched down and picked a daisy then trotted in and handed it to me, folding my fingers over the flower, before giving me a huge hug. I cried . I wish I'd had it on camera - what a little angel!

heron22 · 23/04/2009 09:16

morning all! how is everyone doing? another lovely sunny day today. but come the weekend, it will be tipping down!

hayfever sneezing is scaring my LO! i sneeze so loudly i am sure the neighbours can hear it!

hedgepig · 23/04/2009 09:38

Morning, Heron I started the antihistamines yesterday I think the pollen must be getting going.

A bit of a "Stato" fact here, the 40+ mummies thread is 1 year old today so Happy Birthday to our thread.

I'm off to a new baby class today at the sports centre, I'm not sure what is involved but it is good to get out.

iris66 · 23/04/2009 09:42

morning everyone

heron/hedgepig - do you know which pollen is around at the moment? DS1 woke up with red swollen eyes this morning and has been very mucussy (sp?) over the past few days (and there was me thinking I'd acidentally given him something he was intolerant to!)

hedgepig · 23/04/2009 09:45

there is a lot of blossom about at the moment so it's probably tree pollen Iris

iris66 · 23/04/2009 09:54

Thanks the sad thing is that we've trees everywhere round here. It obviously hadn't made it to my consciousness that he could be getting hayfever. He's got chronic eczema & allergies and I've been so focussed in watching for asthma that hayfever didn't occur to me. His eczema has flared too so it would make sense that he's fighting something.
Vaseline round the nostrils is supposed to help isn't it? (Piriton gives him really bad night terrors - a common reaction aparently - so I'll give the consultant a bell)

ermintrude13 · 23/04/2009 10:27

Morning all

I was a bit worried my hayfever was kicking in but I think it was just a bit of a sniffle which has gone now. I'm allergic to grass pollen so not expecting it for a few weeks - and not looking forward to dealing with it without anti-hists! iris the vaseline thing can work but is a bit tricky - you have to put some all around the nostrils then pinch them together gently and release, so it forms a film. And then breathe through your mouth. So, quite hard for a LO to get. But it will soothe his skin a bit even if it doesn't stop the pollen getting in. There are lots of gentler anti-hists than piriton so hope the doc advises well.

hedgepig hope the new class is good

Happy days everyone else

Tee2072 · 23/04/2009 10:28

Good Morning all!

Total crap night. Woke up at 2 for a wee, kept up until about 4 with heartburn. I really must find a way to tolerate the liquid Gaviscon, since it works so much faster than the pills!

We seem to be having a very low pollen count here. DH suffers horribly, usually, but hasn't been having a problem so far!

Only a year hedgepig? I thought y'all had been talking for aeons before I joined 6ish months ago!

OP posts:
johnworf · 23/04/2009 10:32

WB hegepig. Wondered where you'd been hiding yourself Yuk @ the hay fever. Thankfully I haven't got any signs yet but I think it's just tree pollen I have problems with.

K has started with eczema under her chin, cheeks and tummy. I have creams from the doc. My eczema is confined to small parts of my body; elbow, around my nose, chin. I'm hoping K doesn't get hay fever as well as I know they're all closely linked allergies.

How remarkable that we're a year old! I remember the day well.........ah yes. Was still pregnant at that stage. Mind you, I think we all were.

Bagged another bargain on Ebay last night; a red boden cardigan for £7. Strangely enough their new catalogue has landed this morning. Even with the 15% off, free delivery and returns, I find their prices very dear (although I adore the clothes).

I'm having another Ebay day today. Sorted out the wardrobe completely y'day with the rule 'if I haven't worn it for 6 months, then it goes'. Also have a million pairs of unworn shoes that DD#1 wants me to ebay for her. I thought I was bad with shoes/handbags but she really would put Imelda Marcos to shame

iris66 · 23/04/2009 10:40

ermintrude - thanks for the vaseline advice. The consultant said that the Neoclarityn we have for his skin allergies should do the trick

Tee - I feel your pain with the heartburn 2-4am was my time for it too . My (almost)foolproof cure is drinking water with lemon juice in (the lemon's alkaline which counters the stomach acid) I sip it all evening & take a pint to bed with me. Extra strong mints work for me too in an emergency.

Woohoo! the sun's back!!!!!!!!

Has anyone on here got (or had) two children in cloth nappies at the same time by the way? I'm wondering whether it's going to be just too much (I do 2/3 washes a day as it is)

iris66 · 23/04/2009 10:42

jw - I envy your organisation skills - I took a load of photos for E-bay last week and still haven't got round to getting the damn stuff listed!

ermintrude13 · 23/04/2009 10:49

iris, I get heartburn too and am confused at your recommendation of lemon juice - that's pretty acidic, not alkaline, so surely it would make the acid indigestion worse?

iris66 · 23/04/2009 11:15

ermintrude It can be confusing, I know, but though it taste's acidic it's actually alkaline forming on digestion (like avocado/raspberries/spinach/pomegranate, lime). Oranges, on the other hand are acid forming (like dairy/meat/grains)

You can find more info if you google acid/alkaline forming foods

hedgepig · 23/04/2009 11:41

Iris I found a pollen calandarhere, it looks like birch pollen is peaking at the moment.

The class was fun, singing, holding the baby upside down sort of thing.

I have just found some uneaten Easter eggs, yummm

Tee poor you and the heart burn I couldn't stomach gaviscon liquid at all just the smell of it made me vomit.

Daisy134 · 23/04/2009 12:36

I'm seven weeks pregnant and am getting a sharp pain down the right hand side of my abdomen - around where my appendix was removed years ago. Is this normal? I've no other odd or abnormal symptoms, and had a scan on Tuesday with everything looking fine. Any advice would be v welcome

hedgepig · 23/04/2009 12:53

hi Daisy i have not experianced this myself, it would be best to contact your Dr or MW just to make sure everything is OK. I'm sure it will be but best to check

iris66 · 23/04/2009 12:59

ermintrude here is an acid/alkalising food www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htmlist
hope that works!

Daisy sounds painful but good that your scan showed everything ok. Could it be ligament stretching pains? I'd be inclined to call your MW or hospital early pg unit for advice if you're concerned. (sorry not to be of any more use)

hedgepig thanks everso for the link
I could murder an easter egg

iris66 · 23/04/2009 13:05

www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm
or this one maybe

heron22 · 23/04/2009 13:38

tee sorry about your heartburn. i hated having heartburn when i was preg.

Tee2072 · 23/04/2009 13:58

I really wouldn't mind the heartburn so much if it didn't happen at 2am!!

And today, baby has kicked so hard it hurt! Not very nice, baby!!

daisy I have to concur with everyone else, call your MW if you are concerned, although I would think it is just ligaments stretching.

Daisy134 · 23/04/2009 14:14

Thanks v much for the advice. The pain has gone now, after going for a walk at lunchtime, but will certainly ring GP if it comes back.
I fancy an Easter Egg, too, despite having just scoffed an M&S egg sandwich, a large packet of salt and vinegar crisps, grapes and a cake. Oh Lordy!
