I'm with you ermintrude. I would never do washing while on holiday. Well, except when I go to the States for 3 or so weeks, then I have to! But I am usually at my mum's or brother's, so doing it is easy!

tee I've not only washed on holiday (and bear in mind it was a camp site in france) I've cooked a sunday lunch using a large camp stove Obviously you can't roast a joint on it but you can become very creative with a large pan. Lordy, can't believe what hard work camping can (sometimes) be.

It's true ermintrude, all this veg, bran, fruit is making me so bunged up. I'm not partial to caffeine as it gives me the shakes but I may risk a diet coke or a milky - proper - coffee later. This Movital just isn't working. And yes, the GP presribed it

Tee2072 · 19/04/2009 12:53

And this is why I don't camp, JW. And because there is dirt and bugs and things. I'm a city girl!

I had an exbf who raved about psyllium husk capsules for digestion. I tried them and had some impressive moments in the bathroom (not with the exbf I might add, or perhaps he'd still be around )

I'm having an exciting day because the baby's kicks from the past few days are definitely developing from wet fishtails into, well, proper kicks. Feels lovely

DP is going up on the roof to set up his huge satellite dish. He has strapped it to his body to enable him to have his hands free. I can't get up on the roof myself for obvious reasons but am hopping from foot to foot visualising my widow's garb. Frank Spencer lives

peachyfox · 19/04/2009 13:07

Ermintrude you're absolutely right - I won't overdo it promise - just a bit of gentle swimming for me!

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 13:11

heron forgot to say 'poor you' sorry about your sickness...have you tracked down what's given you a dodgy tummy?

jw I was going to say something caffeine-based may get you going.

We're just about to buy a nice tent- think camping is about all we'll be able to afford if we have to go private with schools!!!! I like camping - so long as I have a few creature comforts....and my camping stove is top of the range - got a grill dontchya know! And like jw I'm quite a whizz with one-pot cooking.

ermintrude I won the meat raffle. I was so thrilled I took my HUGE piece of beef, in its plastic bag to a comedy club in Brixton. Rich Hall was on - he asked me what I was carrying (I was loud and drunk ) so I told him. He didn't believe me. Cue comedian checking out my very red and bloody prime cut infront of an audience ...amused the life out of me at the time. Not sure what he was expecting to find...but it's not the thing you usually take out with you, Then again...in Brixton...who knows.

Verity is howling. She's hungry. Best go or she'll be grumpy

Where's hedgepig? And I wonder how ladymac et family are getting on?

mrsboogie · 19/04/2009 13:17

Camping is Hell, there's no two ways about it.

I can see that constipation might be an issue jw I think that things like olive oil would normally err lubricate the innards. I do miss olive oil.

I see Alli goes on sale this week. There's lots of experts grumbling that most people won't finish the first packet and it won't work and the side effects are nasty and it only removes 100 calories a day from your diet. They're missing the point of course - its not about what it does to you its about retraining your eating habits. Even when I haven't taken a pill I still eat as though I have.

Fabulous day here too, just waiting for Mr D to wake form his nap and then we are off for a nice long walk by the river.

heron22 · 19/04/2009 13:42

hi all, just pop in to express milk and check on this thread

definitely feeling better, looks like it is a 24 hr bug. hope so anyway! i lost 1.5kg by puking! i am sure it is all back now as i have drank lots of water

it is such a nice day out! kids are loving it.

hmmm, steamer. that is a good idea. will look into it.

am going back out as soon as finish expressing. can see myself forgetting about routine and just sitting out till late afternoon!

heron22 · 19/04/2009 16:34

hello! where is everyone this afternoon? enjoying the weather i guess the lovely weather was enjoyed by all the kids in the square! mums and dads sat around chatting.

Tee2072 · 19/04/2009 17:00

Hi all!

I'm around, just doing stuff around the house. And having a nap!

Sounds lovely heron!

FloriaTosca · 19/04/2009 17:02

Hi All!
What a beautiful day! We started it with a stroll round the reservoir ..the dog was in 7th heaven! I can understand those who cant stand the smell of dog..it took 15 mins under the shower (he has his own outdoor one) to get the mud off...and the odour of wet wool is still permeating the utility room where he sleeps....thank heavens for freshmatic sprays

Heron; glad you are feeling better...enjoy your afternoon sitting out.

JJ; I'm envious of your garden makeover being so well underway...ours is the next big job on the list, we'll start it in earnest when dh has finished the wet room. Incidentally as I cant remember answering your question about the mink, it moved on when we removed the pile of rubble dump created when we decorated Mums living room, leaving the decapitated corpse of one of mums biggest fish as a reminder of its visit..so sorry, we didnt manage to catch it and turn it into trim for my leather gloves[shame]

off to potty his lordship again...we are having tantrums now when I ask him and he doesnt feel the need...dont know if that is progress or not... however we have had 4 consecutive dry nights so we are g etting there..

hope everyone is having a lovely weekend

heron22 · 19/04/2009 17:08

floria that is excellent! 4 consecutive dry nights

not sure when to try again with my DS1 to get him to be dry at night. he is nearly 5. such a deep sleeper. it is currently in the too hard basket.

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 18:43

Such a lovely day - we survived a whole two hours at the park!

heron I applaud your dedication on the expressing front I've kind of come to the end now - Verity is almost a year and I think I want to reclaim my norks....although I'm WAY too lazy to give up the morning feeds!
Not decided what to do yet - that's in the 'too hard' basket

floria shame about the mink - I was expecting a lovely little flattened varmint for my delectation! OOooo no, the smell of damp dog...MMmmm, we'll have that to look forward to when we get our mutt. We're waiting till the girls are old enough to walk it!! Hahah we have an outdoor shower - usually used to hose down DP after a dirty day at work!

tee hanging around and having a nap sounds bliss...you make the most of it

Oh and in POONEWS* Verity has had poos so wet recently that they've been exploding onto her clothes Anyway - today was a corker. As I took the nappy off - there - stuck right in the middle of her winky woo was a whole baked bean from last night's dinner displaying proudly as though it was an enormous clitoris! Swiftly she put her hand down, grabbed it and I just about wrestled it from her fingers before it went in as a light snack

So, that's my news. Hope you've all been having a smashing day.

johnworf · 19/04/2009 19:56

Woah! I'll never look at a baked bean in the same light again JJ

Well, all the older ones have returned to whence they came. Fed, watered, clutching cling filmed parcels of chicken.

mrsb totally agree with what you are saying re the Alli. I still eat the same when I don't take a pill. Actually my doc told me on thursday that the 2.4 (?) lbs (average per week) that I've been losing is too much if I wasn't on the Xenical. It's only because I'm on them that he thinks it's an ok loss. I looked at him puzzled as I thought this was a bit feeble but he said that the people who lose it fast, on very low calorie diets or faddy diets are almost guaranteed to put the weight back on (and usually add more to the starting weight). I came away comforted by this but I can see that it is about retraining yourself on what you eat with the odd treat thrown in - (wo)man can not live by stir fry alone

floria hopefully we'll collide next week. If you manage to make it down to my neck of the woods you'll have to stop by and have a look at our wet room. We've had it for about 18 months now and I'd never go back to having a bath - not that I had them when there was a bath in there. Excellent news on A going 4 nights too

Actually tee I do love camping. I wasn't having a sneaky moan at all. It's great when all the kids get together and start, say, a game of cricket and the adults can sit outside and watch or join in. Always seems to be a great community spirit - almost war like. Praps I'm just getting over sentimental but those are the things that will keep me going back to the great outdoors Btw, you don't get bugs in the new tents if you keep the fly sheet zipped and even if you do....well, never harmed

Tabitha8 · 19/04/2009 20:05

I read that article about exercise being good for unborn babies. Is it too late for me to take up marathon running?
I want to go camping, but DH won't hear of it. He won't even camp in the garden to listen out for badgers.

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 20:59

Oh a wet room sigh jw* they're two words to make me feel

FLoria forgot to say huge congrats to you on A going 4 nights

tabitha hahahah at the idea of camping out in the garden to listen for badgers!!!

Well, to keep the mood outdoorsy I'm off to look at tents....*zips up fly sheet to keep out the bugs and pootles off

Tee2072 · 19/04/2009 21:03

I used to be forced to camp at summer camp and always swore I would never do it once I was a grown up. And I've kept that swear!

I really just don't find it fun or enjoyable. To each her own!!

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 19/04/2009 21:25

I didn't think I'd camp again after bumming round Italy with a boyfriend and a tent at 21, but having DC makes for a completely different vibe - like JW says, it can really get everyone pulling together. Also one of the few ways of escaping any sort of TV, PC or DS screen...
Parenthood seems to me largely about Using Up Time with as much fun and as few arguments as possible, and I find that camping forces me down several mental gears until I can be perfectly happy queuing to wash up a bowl of plastic crockery in cold water at the corner of a field. Hmm, sounds like I'm saying it enforces a kind of temporary brain death . Yup, that could be the big draw of life under canvas, that zombie-like state of laid-backness that normal life doesn't allow .

ermintrude13 · 19/04/2009 21:26

PS: JJ love the Rich Hall story. Do they have meat raffles in the US?

jeanjeannie · 20/04/2009 08:06

Morning ladies. It's only just 8am and already i've had 8 hours sleep AND the car went on for its MOT at 7am and passed. That's a GOOD start to a Monday!!

Running about today trying to sort out cake and flowers etc for mum's birthday. I think a trip to a garden centre will be in order.

ermintrude that was the beauty of the Rich Hall scene - he's NO idea what the heck a meat raffle was. He did say he lived in Montanta and even the hicks there didn't have them!

Camping rocks because I love the idea of manky, unwashed kids having fun! Trick is to pick a site that isn't full of ammenities such as a clubhouse or else it's lads partying till dawn..

johnworf · 20/04/2009 08:06

Aye ermintrude I'm with you on the washing up! And you always get chatting to someone in the queue. I dunno why but everyone seems to be more friendly when you're camping. Maybe it's like you say, your gears change down and you're relaxed without the accoutrements of modern day life. Usually takes DSS a couple of days to get over his withdrawal of his Xbox but it's fine after that

JJ did you have any luck with a new tent? All I can say when you have bought one is put it up in the garden - anyones garden - before you go away with it. Saves relationships especially if it's raining when you get there. Oh, and another handy tip is you have to be very quiet, almost silent, when you're having sex in a tent. We got shouted at by our neighbours and I thought I was being quiet. Obviously they thought it was the famous scene from 'When Harry Met Sally'

Ok, that's all my pearls of wisdom spent.

FloriaTosca · 20/04/2009 08:19

Thanks for reminding me ladies...I need to get the zip on our tent fixed if we are going to use it this year...we usually use it for the August bank holiday Bouvier Club rally but broke it in 2006 when we were packing up, didnt go in 2007 because I was incarcerated in hospital with pre-eclampsia expecting Alex and last Summer hadnt got the zip fixed so only went for one day.

JW I'm up for a meet up this week if you are and would love to see a completed wet room...we decided to get rid of the shower cubicle because that bathroom is so small, this way at least we will get some elbow room, but I must admit I wish it was over and done with.[ungrateful emoticon]

Well a busy day full of playdates ahead... nice to be popular(Master A. of course, not me)but also a shame because it would be nice to enjoy some sunshine while we have it...however he did enjoy the heat a bit too much on Saturday and decided (after I had carefully dressed him in waterproof apron for wet play)to cool off by climbing into his water and sand table (pic on profile if anyone is interested)

johnworf · 20/04/2009 08:49

floria brilliant pic of A I also love the blue lips when he's painting. Obviously had to taste it as well

heron22 · 20/04/2009 09:07

jj LO is 3 1/2 months tomorrow. i am amazed that i am able to continue breastfeeding for this long. will continue until he is 6 months i think. doing all i can to keep up milk production! after machine could not get any more milk out, i hand express. i find i can get that last little bit of milk out

another gorgeous day!

i have signed up LO for mum and baby swim class. the term starts today. thing is, i signed up awhile back and cannot remember what day LO is down for! i think it is today . and i have grocery delivery this morning! i find it hard to remember various committments! imagine if i have 10 kids, i would need a PA!

anyway, rambling on now!

won a bebepod on ebay for £1.04 plus postage of £5.50. so very pleased!

heron22 · 20/04/2009 09:15

phew, rang up the swim school and LO's class is actually on tues at 10am.
