Morning all

Nippy here too although brightish so hopefully will get a nice long walk out at some point.

Mr D has not been his usual happy self for a while - must be more teething. V hard to settle at night too.

Have decided to sell all his grown out of clothes and all the stuff he never wore on ebay as they are taking up way more room than his actual wardrobe now. Any tips jw?

do you live in central London heron?

heron22 · 18/04/2009 14:01

hi mrsb how areyou? it is brightish here as well, but quite windy. so DS1 and DH are out in the garden trying to fly kite. i got hygienist appt this afternoon. yes i live in central london. where do you live?

ah teething. can be so difficult for baby and mum! do you apply bonjela on your LO's gums?

mrsboogie · 18/04/2009 15:37

heron I am in York. Lived in London until about seven years ago when I got sick of commuting from the suburbs into Whitehall for work. I always say that the only way I would move back down would be if I could live in Central London thus no commuting! Too expensive though.

well I tried bonjela and it didn't seem to do any good, but apparently that's not the thing anymore - something called anbesol liquid is - don't know whether it is any good as I haven't been able to find it yet.

My older son used to sleep through teething - hours and hours he would sleep and no crying.

johnworf · 18/04/2009 16:28

mrsb tips for selling baby clothes. Yep. Make sure your description has good key words in it for people searching. Words like 'look', 'lovely', and 'nice' etc are not words people use to search so I'd go for make, size and anything other relevant. Also, I find that using Auctiva and the free super size pics also helps to sell. Make sure you take some good pics, in natural daylight, preferably hung up or with a bright, neutral background.

I've been running around all day. Started at 9am returning some things to M&S and then on to Primark for some bits and pieces, mainly for DD#1's new flat. Met up with best friend after a year long interval and had a natter. No lunch alas as there's nowt nice I can have in a restaurant without pooping Cups of tea had to suffice.

And that's it! I'm knackered now. Might even get chance to browse today's Times before the day is out.

DSS is away at his mother's so once K is in bed tonight it'll be feet up time to sit back and enjoy the dross on the tv. Actually I've Virgin ++ Grand Designs so mebbe that'll be watched.

Beautiful day here. Chill in the air but still can't complain. I even went to the shops in just a cardi today......well, you know what I mean

JJ hope you're having fun doing the actions to the birdie song. I can just see your DP spinning the decks and all that scratching

mrsb I remember rubbing Anbesol onto my sister's gums when they were teething and they're 28 this year. I think it's been around a while Think K's are about to break through at long last.

I've noticed she's doing well on feeding herself big things (toast, organix biscuits etc) and even managing to pass things from one hand to another. I remember that as being a big deal for some reason. However, no attempts to sit up on her own (although is fine in high chair) and actually pushes herself backwards if anything rather than trying to sit. Not worrying about it though. I'm sure she'll come good.

ermintrude13 · 18/04/2009 16:31

Co-ee, I'm back, waving from my corner over here. Slightly exhausted from having skim-read a dozen pages and unable to say much except CONGRATULATIONS ladymac on the fantastically short and efficient birth of Emmeline (I only know one other; daughter of the poet Simon Armitage, so you're in good company). And HURRAH about your neck JW. And WELL DONE on weight loss mrsb. And HELLO AGAIN all you other ladies, pregnant and not.

Northumberland was sunny for 3 days and perfectly fine for the rest, the cottage was very comfy and well-located and we had a splendid time messing about on the (huge, clean, deserted) beach and in various castles and stuff and I read 5 novels and watched several Dr Whos on digital channels which I'd missed first time round. Now for the laundry. Sigh.

Tee2072 · 18/04/2009 17:08

Afternoon all!

Well, I walked so much this morning around City Centre that I've just woken up from a 3 hour nap! Legs ache, so I think I over did it a bit. But I got lots done!

Welcome back ermintrude. Sounds like a lovely holiday.

mrsb I've heard good things about anbesol. Its used a lot in the States.

Hope everyone had a lovely Saturday!

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 18/04/2009 18:20

thanks jw for the tips. Will have to get sorting.

its far too cold here for cardigans - I had to put the heating on for the first time in weeks as we were all frozen.

That holiday sounds fantastic ermintrude good to have you back!

a 3 hr nap tee haha that's longer than my night's sleep!

lilibet · 18/04/2009 18:37

Well, the chicken pox wasn't chicken pox but a severe allergic reaction to something he has eaten or been bitten by. He looked like the elephant boy but the tablets have now kicked in.

Ds1 in the meantime continues to push me to the limit, after telling me he was sleeping at a mates on Thursday night, I had dropped him off there but on Friday some things he said didn't add up so I began to suspect that he hadn't been there things began to get worse.

( i don't think that sentence makes sense but you get the gist!)

Friday at 6 ish, got a phonecall asking if he could sleep at another mates - one I had never heard of, told him no but said that 'Mark' could sleep at ours. At this he refused to come home and refused to tell me where he was.

Then the swine switched his phone off

Ever felt totally powerless? He is at his dad's this weeeknd and I'm not looking forward to our reunion.

And now I am streaming with a cold, runny eyes, nose and sore throat, I look bloody gorgeous!!

johnworf · 18/04/2009 18:52

By 'eck lilibet these teenagers really push you to the limit don't they? Tbh I never had many problems with my boys. However, DD#1 was a different matter. In the end we sat down and compromised. Yes, she could stay out but until midnight. Always had to have taxi money and phone switched on and I insisted I always knew where she was (not the fairy tale version) in case of emergency. It worked out well. She had her freedom - under my sort of rules. At least with your DS you'll never find the morning after pill in his bedroom But that's another story.

And yes, you always feel powerless over teenagers as they're smart arsed little gits that you can't help but love

ermintrude welcome back dear. Sounds like you had a lovely time Slightly envious of the holiday. Not of the laundry

tee as I recall, 3rd trimester is when you get spurts of energy quickly followed by exhaustion. Sounds like you're nesting. Happens to the best of us. I remember when I was having DS#1 and my exDH would come home and ask where I'd put everything as almost each day I moved the living room around. Couldn't help myself. Fast forward to after DS was born and I don't think that living room saw a duster or a hoover for 6 months

lilibet · 18/04/2009 19:08

Dd has been ok and even now would never stay out all night without letting me know where she is, and as you say - not the fairy tale version either! She's amazingly responsible actually, will only go out and drink if she isn't working the day after.

But the tragic news about her is that she is giving up working for Estee Lauder!!! She is going to Uni, I've told her, who gives a stuff about her future and education, I don't want to loose my 75% discount!!

mrsboogie · 18/04/2009 21:11

75% discount?

you must forbid her from leaving!

jeanjeannie · 18/04/2009 21:51

Evening - I'm half asleep so forgive me if this post is unreadable!

Crikey lilibet don't know what's more traumatising - your DS and his antics or DD leaving Estee Lauder and yes, a big to 75% discount....you're really going to have to do some bulk buying then!! Sorry that your DS is being a naughty teenager - must be stressful. I'm not looking forward to that bit at all. Blimey AND a cold.....it's pants over at Lilibet towers....poor you

heron Oooo, have you access to one of those nice garden squares? I had one of those near me when I was living in Notting Hill - but I never had access. However, a nice local man showed me a great way of getting in just by using a thin plastic bag from the veg man on Portobello market I'll tell you all one day how to get into one - if you're good girls!!

We've done up the house heron - well most of it - and put a glass-roofed extension on the side. Now it's the turn of the garden and we live on a hill - so it's an excavation nightmare!! DP is a builder/carpenter - so that's handy!

jw DP was indeed spinning the tracks - Kylie, Abba, Take That...all the firm faves of 5 yr olds! It was very lovely - right in the countryside and very posh. Made us laugh at the end when all the mummies came to pick the kids up and they were wearing their gym stuff - having all seemingly come straight from their personal trainers! Gorgeous day though and Iris loved it all.

Good to hear K is proficient with her food - atta girl. I'm sure the sitting will come. Verity still can't roll over....or wont! She still falls backwards when she's on her bum and loathes, screams when on her front. Iris was sofa cruising at this age!

ermintrude good to have you back. Am very at the thought of getting through all those novels!

Right - off to bed....as I'm bound to be woken at 5am ...again

BonzoDoodah · 18/04/2009 21:52

ermintrude welcome back. Your holiday sounds wonderful.

Had a gorgeous day here - almost all of it spent in the garden. I love it. Also managed a quick trip into town and am now troffing Thorntons special toffee .... mmmmm. Must watch my fillings though.

mrsboogie · 18/04/2009 22:02

Thorntons toffees

/weeps

/gnashes teeth

D can't roll over either and refuses to lie on his front for more than a few mins without bawling, he is great at sitting but that's it!

BonzoDoodah · 18/04/2009 22:20

it's nasty you wouldn't like it

johnworf · 19/04/2009 09:24

Morning all. Another beutiful day up here in the north. Guess these 3 days of sun will be our summer Rain from Tuesday henceforth until October no doubt.

Have the usual assorted children turning up to be fed today and Sunday lunch is promised to all who turn up. Otherwise very quiet morning of catch up on washing. Oh! Hold me back someone.

Still severely constipated and the sachets that GP gave to me are not shifting it at all. Funny really isn't it? This Xenical is supposed to have the opposite effect! Awful really as the tummy bloating makes me look well and truely up the duff.

bonzo lovely Thorntons huh? Alright for some! I had a lot of marshmallows last night comforted in the fact it's fat free (and not thinking about the calories and sugar )

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 09:31

Hi - a FULL night's sleep! Nine WHOLE hours...go on...count 'em!!!

Gorgeous day here too - am thinking I'll take girls to the park while DP gets to work on the garden - yet again.

bonzo ....walk away from the Thorntons!! Bad girl

jw have fun with the family today. All this healthy food is probably making you constipated How horrid - used to suffer from that as a kid. What's in the sachets? You could try that aloe stuff from Holland & Barrat.....or castor oil

There's a black cloud....NO, NO...you will not rain today!!

Tee2072 · 19/04/2009 09:50

Morning all!

Well done JJ! Nothing beats a full nights sleep.

JW I find a large cup of coffee with caffeine clears me right up. You could give that a try.

Cloudy here in Belfast. But it will probably be off and on sun today.

Like jw I am a totally party animal as I gear up to clean bathrooms and fold laundry. I know you are all of my Sunday plans!!

OP posts:
heron22 · 19/04/2009 10:14

jj lucky you to have builder for DH! my DH bless him, is no good at anything like that!

i threw up 7 times last night, it was horrible. and this morning, the runs came
not sure what i ate that was bad. cos what i ate, DH also did! anyway, feeling a bit better this morning. DH and DS1 gone to tennis picnic being held at our garden square. i do love living here because of teh garden square. anyway, just finished washing sterilising all baby feeding stuff. still in PJs! LO just woke up from nap. so will get organised and go out there and enjoy the weather. if the runs threaten, it is a short walk/run home!

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 10:28

Well I can say that I've peaked today - I've just cleaned the cooker while dancing to "Do the Dinosaur" with Boogie Pete on Cbeebies. PARTY

heron22 · 19/04/2009 10:42

jj that is amazing, multi tasking like that

has anyone used the beabe cook for making baby food?

peachyfox · 19/04/2009 10:54

Mornin' all,

Well, I did get up, but I appear to be prone again. Ah, do you remember your first pregnancy, when there were no preexisting little ones clamouring for your attention! I'm tinkering away at a job I must (must!) finish today and there's another one waiting after that.

Heron how awful having food poisoning, makes you feel complete rubbish I know. Hope it's one of those fast and furious ones that's all over quickly.

I'm being escorted to the gym today as DP read that dratted article on the bbc website about exercise in pregnancy making the baby healthier. He, of course, goes nearly every day (not complaining ) - in fact the other day I told a new german friend my DP was at the 'gymnasium' which is a german word but unfortunately one that means high school, which coming from a significantly pregnant lady must have sounded a bit ..

Ho hum, the language learning continues...

Well done JJ on your bonzer night's sleep and doing the dinosaur - was there wiggling and jumping? I imagine there was...

Tee quite agree on the coffee. I gave up for months but I'm right back on it now and no regrets..

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 10:57

Friend of mine had it - and thought it was very limiting.

I went for an electric steamer - brilliant for turning food to mush - or just soft enough for gums to gnaw on! Plus - you can use it for grown-up food too. The other good thing about it is - that it 'pings' itself off - so unlike boiling or steaming on the cooker - you don't start changing a nappy and forget it...thus creating smoke, smells and a hole in the pan!

I did this once - when I didn't have children. Started boiling some beetroot...mate suggested the afternoon pub quiz and meat raffle (class) and 4 hours later I had no pan, a flat full of smoke, a cat besides itself and two beetroot like shrivelled rat's testicles

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my steamer...can't rave enough about how it's saved me time!

Tee2072 · 19/04/2009 11:07

JJ just wondering how you know what rat's testicles look like, shriveled or not...

Poor you heron. I hope you feel better soon and enjoy your day!

peachy honestly, I think its the best argument for not having another one after this! I barely have the energy for me right now (and DH) can't imagine what I would do with a toddler at the same time!!

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 19/04/2009 11:12

JJ the phrase 'meat raffle' makes me laugh without any context at all; I've always wanted to be at one ; it feels so post-war.

Heron poor you, even at the height of my morning sickness I never threw up 7 times. Yuk! Hope you feel better soon.

peachy don't overdo it at the gym if you're not used to it. I got on our cross-trainer the other day and it creaked so much I didn't dare continue, I thought it was going to break. Honest. .
Some of the ladies here did pick up their OH's at school, I'm sure of it..

Tee Your glamorous Sunday sounds like mine. There was a washing machine in the holiday cottage but somehow I'd rather bring back stinking bags full of clothes and do it on return. I have friends who wash, dry and iron everything on hol, but that's just alien to me. It's a holiday ffs!

JW I've been constipated this preg, and even when not preg have to have more fibre than anyone normal should. Sometimes the trouble is that eating more 'bulk' from bran, veg, fruit, lentils etc. causes more of a - ahem - blockage. So Tee's strong coffee idea is sensible in that it can get the peristalsis going AND make everything a bit more - erm - liquid. Syrup of figs and liversalts are slightly gentler ways of getting things moving but personally I'd go for extreme measures because the bloatedness is horrid.

Or get some liquorice flavour special toffee of Bonzo, she's got it all to herself and it's not fair .
