where is everybody today?

FloriaTosca · 15/04/2009 14:16

hi!
I'm back from taking my Mum to hospital for what was supposed to a routine tooth extraction...however when we got there they studied her xrays closer and decided to remove another one at the same time and take out the root of a tooth that was removed years ago while they were at it ...had to leave her there and come home because keeping Alex quiet and entertained for that length of time would have been impossible... so just got home after picking her up and taking her home (she refused to stay with us...but then again cant blame her as I dont think Alexs shouting would help her recovery much)and tucking her into bed feeling like she has been in a prize fight, with a hot water bottle and jug of water (and pain killers for when the anaesthetic wears off) by her side...my brother is skipping work early to stay with her this afternoon as I'm working from 2.30.
I'm feeling both guilty at leaving her and miffed at missing my lunch out with JW Ho hum..best laid plans of mice and men and all that...

jeanjeannie · 15/04/2009 14:18

Walked into town with the double buggy and back...whah!

triggles you deserve a bit of luck on the old health front - here's hoping a bit on sun puts you on the mend.

Righty ho - a car has pulled up - that's me off. Darn and I was just about to look for a Little Tike's Kitchen on ebay...pah!

Tee2072 · 15/04/2009 14:47

Has anyone here tried raspberry leaf tea to speed up labour (only from 36 weeks, though). My mw recommended I take it.
Iris How did you manage such a short labour? Was it just luck?
Poor you, Tee. Little Tab keeps finding new toys to play with in there as well .

heron22 · 15/04/2009 17:15

jj yes, we got the sun today!!! am wearing sandals, skirt, top. like summer! feet killing me cos wore sandals all day and walked to shops and back. these are flat sandals mind you. feet got used to wearing socks and shoes! this happens everytime the weather warms up!

tee i remember when LO was inside and would dance on my bladder! i was going to the loo every hour! how many more weeks do you have to go?

OP posts:
heron22 · 15/04/2009 17:56

tee you look lovely and happy!
i was really big too and people kept commenting on it. i do miss having a baby in my tummy but not miss all the discomforts like not being able to bend over, constantly going to the loo, waking up every couple of hours at night!

is this your first baby? i think it is your first. but i just cant remember!

Tee2072 · 15/04/2009 17:57

Yes, its my first heron.

OP posts:
heron22 · 15/04/2009 18:40

wow, how exciting! boy or girl? or you want to be surprised?

i have to go tend to DS1 now.

heron22 · 15/04/2009 18:51

DS1 has been playing up all afternoon. now after several warnings and still he was not listening to what i said, he is now at time out. i really hate doing this but he has to learn to listen. sigh. this is the hardest part of parenting. he has been so good for such a long time. he is nearly 5. when he was much younger, toddler years, there was a time when we were doing time out quite often.

he is beside himself right now, quite upset at being put in time out.

mrsboogie · 15/04/2009 18:55

jw where are you today? do check in dearie!

johnworf · 15/04/2009 19:34

Hello!!! waves I'm here!

Cor. Having an older child move near to you is hard work. I've seen two of the older ones today but DD#1 is coming for her tea every night and we're still returning stuff to shops that she bought for the dump of a flat that she didn't move into. Anyway, I think we're all sorted out now but I'm shagged out!

tee great piccie! Bump is coming along nicely

I'm going for official weigh in tomorrow with doc so haven't weighed myself since last week. Will post results as and when. Also having a smear tomorrow. Will have K with me though and had to ring the surgery as I have no one to mind her. Was about to cancel but the nice lady who works there has offered to take K while I'm flat on my back. Had visions of me balancing baby on my tum while the nurse was busy at the other end. Bet she screams the place down.

Lovely to see you lilibet. Come back and see us. Please

JJ did you get yourself a new fitted kitchen? Albeit a Little Tikes one?

johnworf · 15/04/2009 19:35

Just bought a silk dress from Next. Size 14. It fits. It fits!!!!!!

mrsboogie · 15/04/2009 19:57

wow jw

although...I think my face looks a teensy weensy bit thinner. OH agrees although he would

Tee2072 · 15/04/2009 20:06

You go JW! That's fab!

No idea, heron. We'll know when the baby gets here!

OP posts:
johnworf · 15/04/2009 20:08

Well mrsb at the rate yours is coming off you won't be far behind me. I bought this dress a size smaller for K's non-christening. The original one (that I love) is a size 16 and too big now. I wish I could find it again in a smaller size as it's lovely.

If you're ringing the changes already, then that's brilliant. It tends to come off my tum last of all and off my face first I'm sure if you've already lost half a stone, then you will notice.

I just saw this on the DM website for anyone interested. I think we all knew that standing or walking around helped labour. Only problem is being induced as you're often made to lie down while they put the drips in and monitor you.

heron22 · 15/04/2009 20:20

jw congrats on your weight loss!

tee have you got name chosen boy name? girl name?

iris66 · 15/04/2009 21:06

hi all - had another blast of mother/daughter bonding today. We only went to the hairdressers but even having an uninterrupted 1/2 hour chat on the way there and back was lovely - and we both came back home with fabby hair (though I'm starting to be mindful of what I want vs what looks mutton which is a bit disturbing )

I'm a bit worried about her at the moment TBH. She's been having recurrent bladder infections that don't seem to be responding to antibiotics and has also been getting IBS type symptoms for the past few months. I've tentatively broached the topic of her pushing for a proper investigation (ie ultrasound) and I'm losing count of the number of ovarian cancer articles I seem to be coming across lately. I'm an holistic multi-therapist by trade (after a 20yr career in the civil service) and it bothers me to know that my skills are not enough for her right now. Also, I'm treading on eggshells trying to encourage, but not push her, to get more investigations without making her freak out it's most bothersome.

jw - the article is deffo right. I woke up in labour 0230 with DD - into hosp by 0630 then flat on my back for the duration and didn't deliver until 1535 (over 11 hrs!!). DS1 was induced (so doesn't really count as labour is reputedly longer if induced)but once waters were broken I was moving around then onto my knees and labour was 5hrs 30. DS2 was 2hrs 40. Again, needed membranes artificially rupturing, but, from then, onto knees (DH in a headlock) and whoosh.

Tabitha - I don't think I've been any luckier than most. It's generally agreed that labouring time reduces, the more children you have - I'm trying to work out logistics of childcare for labour at the moment. Officially, DD was, apparently, a textbook 1st labour - at 11 hrs from first twinge to delivery - but everyone's different. I've a friend who had a 3 hr labour with her first (and no nicks or tears) you'll be fine

iris66 · 15/04/2009 21:15

Tab - I took raspberry leaf tea but also homeopathic remedies to tone the uterus. I took homeopathic remedies in labour (and post) too. Arnica is well known for reducing bruising and hypericum is good for healing cuts (c/s, episiotomy or tears). Zita West's website may have some good info - she's very well regarded, and the Helios website has good info - and provides advice over the phone. HTH

iris66 · 15/04/2009 21:21

also..... the induction thing. (sorry, keep remembering things to add) if you end up having one make sure they put the drips in away from your wrists or you wont be able to move. With DS1's induction I had badly placed drips in each wrist and it was hideous. With DS2 I knew better and although it took them a couple of attempts to get a line in I was able to forget about them (and hence being able to get DH in a headlock )

johnworf · 15/04/2009 21:24

I took raspberry leaf tea (loose) on DS#2. Best labour of all of them. After first 2 I had pre-eclampsia and he was the only one I didn't have it on. Had first contraction at 12.20am, went to hospital and examined by 1.30am and he was delivered at 2.40am. They were going to send me home as they said I wasn't in labour and I had one leg on the delivery room bed (trying to get onto it) when his head came out. Not sure it was all down to the raspberry leaf but it is a coincidence after 2 previously induced ones

johnworf · 15/04/2009 21:25

Meant to add to previous post, also the only labour I had no pain relief on.

jeanjeannie · 15/04/2009 21:43

Evening all - shattered. Had playdate to host and they didn't leave till 5 - so it was a quick leap into dinner for kids - then us - then bed and now I'm flumped.

Sorry everyone but can't help with labour tips as both DDs were CS - although I can put a big thumbs up for arnica. I took it a few days before planned CS and after - the bruising was there one minute - gone the next - the stuff rocks!

Your poor DD iris bladder infections are nasty and painful. Sounds like something could be setting her off, I'm sure she'll get it sorted once it drives her nuts!

tee you look bloomin wonderful Really happy and rotund with baby!!!

jw action packed day tomorrow - a weigh-in AND a smear...go on girl...you get yer kicks where you can

OK bed for me - feel like I've had no opportunity to even get near a computer today. See you tomorrow x
