Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

Hi sissy congrats! Well, when they ask about your age you can offer up the face that tee so perfectly encapsulated and say "but my eggs are clearly so young, fresh and fertile....unlike your skin/face(add own scathing comment)!" And, as for getting married....well, I'm not married and had my first DD1 at 41 and DD2 at 42......we're happy as the proverbial pig in *!T....why spoil a good thing with stress when you can have a lovely party in the guise of a naming ceremony or Christening

ladymac great news about the fluid levels etc...all.... systems go eh! And yes, I reckon it'll be the 2nd.....be cheap on parties though Keep us posted - one drop of fluid requiring more than a Tena Lady to clear up then you let us know

I have just flopped into the sofa after WAY too much risotto.....so much for the weight loss

hello all

Been at work today so no MNing for me. Mr D had his first review at nursery and they gave us a lovely little report with pics of him doing activities including one v v cute one of him stood up stroking a fluffy wall in the sensory corner. They are v pleased with him and reckon he is very happy there (because he is too young to know any different but hey ho!)

welcome sissy and congratulations. this is a fab thread with lots of elderly (but fabulous) mummies at various stages of pregnancy or new mumness. I was 40 when I had my son last September and am not married either. Almost no-one (well, no-one except my mother ) asked if I was getting married and no-one said a word about my age either. If I am ever asked whether we are getting married my answer is "what for?".

ladymac great to hear all is keeping well with you and bump - so exciting - we've not had a new one on here for ages!

jw I will have everything crossed for K tomorrow.

johnworf · 30/03/2009 21:21

Thanks mrsb. I'll report in tomorrow when I have some news. Not fretting this time over the appointment. I think I've resigned myself to the fact that it is going to happen. All I can do is do the best for K.

Am knackered. About to pester DH for a foot massage. K puked all over DH when I was on the phone Always happens that doesn't it? Anyway, by the time I got upstairs, she was lying in her cot covered in her own regurgitated milk, dog was barking downstairs (at nothing as usual) and DSS was singing at christmas carols at the top of his voice in bed Ok, who wants to swap lives with me for a week? Come on, I know you ALL do!

I think I had quite a few rude remarks when I announced my last pregnancy. Mostly 'you must be mad at your age' and 'why would you start again after they've grown up?' And my stock answer was 'because I planned to have this baby and it's very much wanted'. End.

sissy0928 · 30/03/2009 22:00

Thank you ladies!! You have all made my day!I'm loving the "what for?" and "Because this one was planned" statements. Thank you all so much! My dd1 is 13 and lovely. She was a big surprise, as I didn't think I could conceive. She popped up right after I broke it off with my ex, so of course we gave it one more try...anyhow I am so happy now and want to have a happy pregnancy with this one! Thank you thank you thank you!!

sissy0928 · 30/03/2009 22:01

I'm loving all of your statements offered!! Thank you ladies, I'm feeling better and you've made my day!

mrsboogie · 30/03/2009 22:30

glad to be of service sissy

I reckon if there's one good thing abut being middle aged (boo hoo ) its that no-one gets to tell you what you should do and you don't require anyone's approval.

sissy0928 · 30/03/2009 22:43

ha, that's what my good friend says, "you're not the boss of me!"

jeanjeannie · 31/03/2009 08:58

Morning all - can I go to bed yet? Up three times last night as Verity was wailing and the stupid blo*dy cat crept into her room while she was feeding in bed with me and of course I didn't see it but was woken at 5am to scratching and yowling to get out

sissy so pleased we've made your day - pop in whenever you're about...for a chat, a moan or just to eat the occasional piece of cyber cake with us

mrsB oooo a sensory wall - that nursery sounds top-notch, no wonder he's happy! Think I'll send Verity - she generally looks bored with me...!

jw that's a shocking evening...and I'm taking it that you didn't get your foot rub Thinking of you guys this morning....check in when you can, let us know how it went x

Ladymac - have you dropped yet???

Had an invite for lunch - I may bake a cake - if I can stay awake long enough to crack some eggs!

Tee2072 · 31/03/2009 09:39

Morning girls!

Ahhh, slept all the way to 5am and dozed from 6 - 7. (sorry JJ. You can rub it in my face in about a year when yours are sleeping through and mine is up all night wailing!!)

And its only 9:38am and I am really annoyed by a vendor I am dealing with.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

mrsboogie · 31/03/2009 10:24

morning all

Thank GOD its my day off work today - D was awake three or four times in the night - drinking one or two ounces at a time. I am dead on my feet. He only takes one or two bottles all day at nursery and needs topping up at night. jj can I go to bed too?

the nursery is good - the sensory corner is just a collection of things they have put together especially for a partially deaf and sighted child but D loves it. It's a big net tent with textured wall panels, coloured bubble lamps, fishies in a tank, all sorts.

yes jw let us know as soon as you can.

tee I used to be an insomniac and wide awake at 4am. I promise you will never struggle with getting to sleep or waking too early after the LO is born!

johnworf · 31/03/2009 10:45

Morning ladies! I'm back!

Ok, so we saw the surgeon. The actual man who gets blood down the front of his shirt no less. Did usual heart scan/ECG and is happy to let K go for another 4 months as the PDA isn't causing any problems with her heart or lungs so far. He says it's better to wait until she's bigger and he's not an advocate for operating if there's no need. I loved him! He was fab. Tells it like it is. Oh, and K's a fan too. He's got good bedside manner with LO's. Def a big tick from me.

So that's that.

K's routine is really screwed with this hour forward. She woke up at 6am (would have been 5am) which is unheard of round these parts (sorry mrsb, JJ et al who do get up). She had her fill of milk and went straight back to sleep but DH is complaining he's tired. Yes, it's my fault as usual. I made him get up this morning as he's not done it for a week or so. Tough luck matey!

JJ last night wasn't that bad at Worf Towers tbh. DSS usually sings at the top of his voice. It's just that yesterday's songs were xmas carols He doesn't just keep them for xmas. LOL. Strange child. Oh, and I did get foot rub but only a little one.

I was watching the tv programme (seemingly endless series) about the princes' looking for love. The gay one gives me the creeps and I thought he treated his english b/f appallingly in India. Glad to see that gays get a bum deal sometimes as much as us straight people (pun intended)

Tee2072 · 31/03/2009 11:16

That's fantastic news JW!! Glad you like the surgeon and so does Miss K.

If anyone is interested, on Sunday Night, BBC2 9pm is a programme called 5 Minutes of Heaven. The production company worked from offices leased from my company...we were their landlord! I did get to meet Jimmy Nesbit, didn't get to meet Liam Neeson though!

johnworf · 31/03/2009 11:32

tee saw it advertised last night and have alrady put in my Virgin + Interesting link back to you.

mrsboogie · 31/03/2009 11:53

Good news jw

Rachel1963 · 31/03/2009 13:51

Hello, I'm just back from my 22 week scan (everything fine) and was very chuffed to be told that my age makes me an inspiration to women! So Sissy you just roll that one out when anyone gives you a funny comment about being pregnant over 40. I think I shall treat myself to some cake to celebrate - it's organic carrot cake, so that's practically a health food, right?

JW glad today went well

johnworf · 31/03/2009 13:57

Great news rachel. So us over 40's women aren't such dinosaurs?

johnworf · 31/03/2009 13:58

Meant to add rachel did you ask them about your placenta and going overdue?

Tee2072 · 31/03/2009 14:12

rachel fantastic news! Yes, definitely health food, so eat away!

Rachel1963 · 31/03/2009 14:20

Asked about the placenta but she told me to ask the midwife. She did say that based on what she saw today she wouldn't normally see the need for any more scans, but I'll have the conversations and see what they say.

Cake now scoffed eaten in a ladylike fashion so I'd really better get on and do some work. Finding it hard to concentrate though as I've just spoken to stepMIL re FIL who's due to have a knee op soon and she was telling me she doesn't think he'll do his post op exercises "unless I offer him sex". They're 80 FFS, wasn't really sure what to say and (that's faintly queasy, NOT envious)

Tee2072 · 31/03/2009 14:41

I think that's great rachel! I hope I'm still bribing the husband with sex when I'm 80!

So, what do you say to the statement/question 'so, any day now?' when the actual answer is 'no, 3 more months...thanks for telling me how fing huge I am!'

ermintrude13 · 31/03/2009 15:07

Afternoon all
I've had some strange sachet with iron water in it mixed with orange juice, 24 hrs of antibiotics and an impressive bowel movement; not sure which has helped most but have a little bit more energy, though the pain is still there. Actually managed to cook the dinner whereas yesterday I had to slump over the table and tell DH how to compile the tortilla chips, sauce, refried beans and grated cheese in the pan before warming it up . V healthy aubergine, courgette, mushroom, tomato and mozzarella layer thingy tonight to make up for it. All brought by Ocado man this morning - what a time for a £10 off offer to arrive, perfecto!

JW glad that the surgeon was impressive and the news good (was he a bit handsome too, by any chance? )

MrsB Baby D is clearly a high-achiever at the sensory corner; glad he's enjoying his nursery days, it's always nice when they compile pics and stuff so you can actually see what they got up to

Re: being over 40, I was talking to a mum in the playground yesterday about having to start off under a consultant, so to speak, if you're over 40 and she actually looked surprised and said she'd thought I was mid-late thirties. She had no reason to lie . Then again I think she's not much past 30 so probably doesn't think over 40s actually exist... still, I'm taking it as a postive.

Ladymac how exciting to be this close, will be thinking of you.

JJ what kind of cake? Please describe it in minute detail

johnworf · 31/03/2009 15:07

rachel TMI for my liking there from PiL. Gross. I'd feel like a teenager and my mum telling me about her sex life. It's a no-no.

tee not sure. When I was having DD#1 I had the same (wasn't helped by putting 4 stone on with severe pre-eclampsia). I was usually asked 'any day now?' followed by 'you having twins?' No to both. Just tellem it's a big baby and that your DH was 11lbs when he was born.....that'll shut them up and impress them at the same time.

mrsboogie · 31/03/2009 15:08

haha fair play to them rachel - glad to hear all is well with the bump

tee my response to that (with people who don't know me or don't "know" I am pregnant was What do you mean? I'm not pregnant!
if they do know I would clutch the bump and go "I think its coming now actually" - you won't see em for dust!

johnworf · 31/03/2009 15:10

ermintrude the surgeon was 5' 3" in his cuban heels and weighed 7 stone wet through. Not my type I'm afraid Was a lovely chap though.

I do believe from your description you've been drinking Spa Tone? Tis good stuff. My MW recommended it to me when I had the huge blood loss....and my hb levels are spot on.

ermintrude13 · 31/03/2009 15:17

Oh well JW you can't have everything and actually fancying your DD's heart surgeon might be a bit uncomfortable...

Yes, Spa Tone, recommended by my sis who had awful post-partum haemorrhage and built herself up with that. It must be better than eating 2lb spinach!

lol at your responses to that question mrsb. Trouble is, I can see some people responding to the 'I think it's coming now' with enthusiastic glee, and rushing you off somewhere to get boiling water and clean towels
