Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

duchesse stop tempting JW with iphone offers, you minx.

I've never had a tumble dryer (or a microwave) so we dry clothes on an airer, and since I can only wear natural fabrics they'd look v crinkly if not ironed. DC's school uniform is wash and wear, so an hour maximum once a week listening to the radio and I'm done. However, I never hoover because it gives me motion sickness . We all draw the line somewhere...

JJ that sounds ominous. Hope you'll be nursed lovingly by DH if it comes to that . Erm - I may regret asking this, but what's JML?? That rubber thing sounds useful.

ermintrude13 · 20/03/2009 19:14

x-posted with jw and am about to browse the jml site with interest!

jeanjeannie · 20/03/2009 20:42

OOOoooo ladies, I feel a bit queer May have to call it a night - which is very annoying as I wanted to watch Genius with Dave Gorman - makes me howl on Radio 4 and wanted to see if it translated onto the TV.

ermintrude no tumble dryer Our house is quite small - so any putting up of an airer is like having another person stuck in the living room!

jw cheers for the link - shall look at that.

Don't even fancy a hot choccy

Oh no JJ! Try to get a good nights sleep.

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 21:15

awwww no jj poor you...

Triggles · 20/03/2009 21:25

We hang things up as well on an airer or outside on the line. My iron still doesn't see the light of day very often.

ermintrude13 · 20/03/2009 21:37

JJ oh dear, hope the world's not going to fall out of your bottom! DD came home from school all dizzy and tearful and went to bed with no tea; there are lots of yukky things doing the rounds

Our airer is a sheila maid thingy so it hangs above us in the kitchen. If I hang stuff up very very carefully it can skip the ironing stage. If I could wear manmade fabrics that didn't crease I'd be very happy indeed.

Watched QI and am now knackered so off to bed with sudoku to fall asleep to.

johnworf · 21/03/2009 07:56

Blimey, we're all dropping like flies. Would I be too much of the optimist to think that once everyone has had a nice (long?) sleep, we've woken up refreshed and feeling tip top?

Nothing much of note going on today here at Worf Towers. I've hounded asked DH if we can get a new phone and put it through the business and he's asked me to justify why I should need one. Bloody hell. Wasn't expecting that one coming. Just a simple straightforward 'no' would have sufficed. Anyhoo I managed a couple of good reasons which he agreed with but still not got the phone. He's said we can, in principle, have a new phone but he's against getting one that you can receive emails on as when he's away from his desk, then he expects not to work. How can I argue with that one?

We used to have one of those frames that hang from the ceiling with a pulley many years ago in the first flat I lived in when I got married. It was brilliant as we couldn't afford a tumble drier. I use the maiden here for nappies, wraps, boosters and all things bum connected and delicates but I do tend to shove the rest in the drier if the weather isn't great.

Spent the evening taking phone calls from all three of the older ones trying to incorporate a mother's day visit into their very business lives The upshot is the boys are arriving at 12 ('would you make us some lunch mum?') and DD#1 arriving anywhere from then on to 2pm as she's off to the football. I've told them not to waste their money on flowers (they will do). I'm sure that the boys could put flower money towards a book for their respective courses or, in real life, a couple of pints in the student uni We're all off out on Tuesday for a mother's day/DS#1's 20th birthday meal. Again, the only way we can co-ordinate anything. I think that most places to eat will be booked up tomorrow anyway.

Tee2072 · 21/03/2009 08:10

Good morning!

I will be optimistic with you JW. I did have a lovely night's sleep, even with waking up at 4:30 to the can't sleep trifecta: needing a wee, snoring husband, kicking baby!

My PIL are coming down today. We're out to dinner tonight for Mother's Day, DH birthday and MIL's birthday. So I have to finish cleaning the flat!!

I do use an airer, as I don't tumble dry mine or DH's work clothes. However, it currently lives in the baby's room, so I am not sure where it will go once the baby is here!

jeanjeannie · 21/03/2009 08:34

Morning all.

I did have a lovely night's sleep jw. Verity didn't wake till 7 and I dreamt about George Clooney and his big cock! Seriously - I did However I feel like my stomach is fermenting about 10 gallons of cheap bear The noise from it is quite something and I've yet to decided which end the said contents will be exiting from..... Think DP is taking the girls out this morning so I can barf and fart in comfort.

tee that sounds like a nice day and eve planned.

ermintrude I forgot about our airier in the Nissun hut (exension) it's on a pully and all our stuff that can't be tumbled (which is a fair bit) goes on there and the glass roof really lets the sun in.

jw nice try on the phone. Ooooo, a little more prep on the answers and you may have just got there! Tomorrow sounds like it'll be fun. My MIL bought me flowers yesterday - soo sweet

What are your lot off to study and when? Ah - the student life.....happy days! Oh, I forget - that was the era of grants, no fees to pay and signing on when you couldn't be bothered to work in the holidays

jj do you have any acidophilus in the house? You can sometimes ward off stomach bugs at this stage with a hefty dose of it. As it is, this one may be one you've already encountered and might progress no further. I think by our age we've experienced most of them already in some form or other. I can't honestly remember getting any more of a tummy bug that the stage you're at now since our children were about 5 or 6. Usually if they are puking (very rare now) we only get stomach pains.

heron22 · 21/03/2009 09:52

would LOVE an iphone but it is just too expensive. at the mo, i have my old phone and have sim only at £20 per month, 600 min and 600 texts. had a look at iphone and it is just too expensive!

maybe when i win the lottery or the price goes down !

DS1 has a bday party to go to this morning. DH is taking him. lovely day out today!
enjoy the day everyone!

also, my LO got checked by cardiologist yesterday. got an ultrasound too. the doc says he is 99% sure it is an innocent murmur. LO was so wriggly cos he was very uncomfortable lying flat and the doc pressing on his abdomen during the ultrasound so that he can see his heart from different angles. because of his reflux, he was very wriggly. and the doc did see the reflux happening on the ultrasound. he is to see the cardiologist again in 3 months time.

he told me there is nothing to worry about and that my LO is just fine. so i am so RELIEVED!!!!

jeanjeannie · 21/03/2009 10:00

duchesse Yep - rarely withouth Acidophilus here and it does seem to be mainly just the tummy pains and rumbles. Been to the loo a few times but doesn't actually feel as bad as I thought it was going to be

heron22 what FABULOUS news I bet relieved barely covers it !!

No way could I justify and iphone - primarily because the reception here in the Chilterns is rubbish - at best intermitant Virtually no signal in the house and we have to leave our phones by the window or it can be days before messages are discovered! Same problem with the TV - when the digital switch on happens there are going to be huge swathes of the town that get nothing!

DP taken the girls to the park - via the new Axminster Power tool centre BIG open day - OOooo, htey'll all enjoy that

JJ DS#1 is in his 2nd year at uni and he's doing Professional Sound and Video Technology. He's hoping to go into production in tv. DS#2 is in his last year of A Levels and he's got his uni place for September this year. He's doing a Computer Science degree.

heron22 great news that the murmur is nothing to worry about. The ECG and the scan is what K has each time we go (every 6 weeks) to check how her heart and lungs cope. She hates having to lie there while they scan her a screams the place down.

JJ hopefully you're not coming down with what the rest of the family has had. It's awful when that happens as I find in this house, no one wants to nurse me after I've nursed everyone else back to health. Not sure why.

tee have a fab day dear. Enjoy the going out to dinner! A luxury I miss most of all.

I doubt that DH has done anything for mother's day for me. I dropped a heavy hint this morning that went straight in one ear...... If he has made an effort I think I'll show my arse on the town hall steps I'll be that amazed.

Made card with DSS for his mother y'day with him moaning all the way through it. I dunno what to do with his continual whining about everything. In the middle of it I told him I wasn't helping anymore. If he didn't want to do it then I sure as heck wasn't making it myself. Anyway, he did make it in the end through much muttering under breath. Lord help us when they finish school in 2 weeks for a fortnight.

Tee2072 · 21/03/2009 10:57

Great news heron! I'm sure you are very relieved.

Why is it men can't read a simple list? Just had two phone calls from DH while he's out shopping 'oh, did we need a birthday card for my mum as well?' and 'are you sure we don't need bread?' Yes, that's why it says so/doesn't say so on the list!

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 12:05

good news heron it'll probably disappear in the end - they quite often do.

tee you're already ahead Missus -if he's out doing the shopping!!

jj if nothing err explosive has occurred by this stage you may be just getting the tail end of that bug - it's probably worn itself out going through the rest of 'em - here's hoping you do escape lightly!

I'm still all clogged and bunged up with this flippin' cold - yuk. Can't taste food etc.

Definitely nowt happenin' here for mothers day - will be surprised if I even get a card.
/ snivel

'ere ladies - when does a baby usually begin t react to their own name?

heron22 · 21/03/2009 12:28

i'm not sure if i will get anything for mother's day! a long lie in would be super!

heron22 · 21/03/2009 12:38

i got the lurgy too!

the cardiologist said that all of us when in our mum's tum have a hole in our hearts. upon taking the first breath, a skin closes over the hole. in some babies, the hole is not completely closed and will take a bit of time for this to happen. i think this is what they mean by an innocent murmur.

right now, sitting here pumping milk ! i seem to spend most of my waking hours expressing milk or feeding or changing nappies... not that i am complaining! my LO started smiling the best gummy smile a few days ago and it is just wonderful!

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 13:19

yeah heron the smiles are the payback for all the hard work - just when you start to think it's all give give give slog slog slog along come the smiles and its all so worth it

ermintrude13 · 21/03/2009 13:31

Hello all, glad those of you with gyppy tums are warding off the worst of it.

Mother's Day, hmmm. I bought a card for DH to take when he meets his parents in London today and told him to buy chocolates but he got Green and Blacks which are just too sophisticated for her distinctly Belgian Chocs taste so dunno how they'll go down. And since he's driving back very very late and won't be here till 3am-ish I can't see him getting up to coordinate my breakfast in bed. Wonder if DD will take control; by the time I was 9 I was taking Mum breakfast in bed and organising cards cos my Dad was completely useless.

JW if you are surprised by a Mother's Day treat organised by DH I hope there's CCTV on a webcam so we can witness you paying your forfeit on the town hall steps

JJ It must be a good sign to be dreaming of well-endowed film stars, you just wouldn't be in that kind of mood with a D and V bug

Heron phew, what a relief, that's very good news

Tee I've had a domestic morning of washing, ironing and bathroom cleaning as well as forcing encouraging DD to do her homework, music practice, make a bd card for a friend and wrap up presents for the two parties she has lined up this weekend. So am now taking it easy and looking forward to the visit of an old friend and her 5 month old DS who are coming up from London. Have a great evening with your ILs!

heron22 · 21/03/2009 13:48

yes mrsboogie it is all so worth it to see that gummy smile. how many children do you have? how old is your LO?

ermin sounds like you had a busy day already!

i am going to express milk again, see how much i can get and then we are off to the great outdoors to enjoy the sunshine!

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 13:55

heron I have a 22 yr old son and a 6 month old son.

As I keep saying to the others on here the first time was so long ago and the circumstances were so different then (less than salubrious, shall we say ) that this time feels like my first all over again.

heron22 · 21/03/2009 14:07

wow! 22 yr old son! did you find that you have forgotten a lot of things about looking after babies?

my other son is nearly 5, bless him.

watching ugly betty on the laptop at the mo

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 14:16

It's hard to say heron I think that a lot of the looking after just comes naturally so you don't have to remember much when you are doing it again, but I just don't remember how it all went before - if that makes sense?.

heron22 · 21/03/2009 14:24

i think i know what you mean because i dont remember much about looking after DS1 either! and that was not that long ago.

i think it is a real blessing to have a LO. my DS2 will be 10 weeks on tues and he will get his first set of vaccinations. the gp surgery was so busy they couldnt fit him in for his shots when he was 8 weeks old .

also does anyone know what to do about BCG shot that did not seem to have worked? my LO had it done about 4 weeks ago and the spot did not even go red or anything, in fact, no reaction at all! i wonder if he needs to get it done again?
